It was my first time to ever try Indian food. Friend noted it is not that great. It was good enough for a first timer like me. My friend and I loved the chicken (with soup in the picture) with the naan bread. The naan bread was truly yummy. Barbecue chicken for first timers like me was yummy. Service was slow and terrible though. We decided not to order extra naan bread since the service was really slow. At the time of our visit, place wasn't busy. There were only three filled tables including ours.

One of the best indian Cafés I've ever tried. Service was very friendly and helpful in choosing my dishes, professional and welcoming. Food was amazing, I had some whole wheat chapati, chicken samosas, and spinach kebab with sauces. Very flavourful and complex in taste, simple at the same time. I'd go back again next time I'm going to San Francisco. I ate outside in the Sun, which made the experience even better, as I was soaking up all the sunny weather I could.

Working in Sausalito, CA for the day. This place was one of the few restaurants open this early in the morning 10:30am. Choices limited I'm this are during this time. I'm glad I stopped here, the good was piping HOT. I ordered the Butter Chicken Platter. Came w/all the fixings, basmati rice, Nan, desert. Pretty & beautiful area to walk by around... ocean views just a few feet away (around the corner) Street parking, one restroom (gender neutral)small dining indoors & outside patio seating as well.

I came to Sartaj on a weekday evening and it was easy to get a table inside. It's such a cute place on the outside and cozy inside. My favorite thing about Sartaj is that they have dairy chai and a dairy-free chai! PLUS, it is available during dinner for costumers to serve themselves. The food was super yummy! I usually go to another spot, but Sartaj has become my favorite! Definitely recommend coming hear for a delicious meal.

Dropped in on a Sunday. Few empty tables so business was brisk. We were 5 and ordered Bhindi, Malai Kofta, Garlic Basil Chicken Kebab and Mixed tandoori platter along with appetizers. Requested medium spicy The hara kebab was crisp, not oily. You get 5 pcs. A plate of samosas gets you two pieces. Both were easy on the tummy, mildly spiced and tasty. The chutneys were meh. Entrees: I suppose if you are out of towners or want what passes for typical north indian food, the veggie entrees will do. The tandoori platter was a train wreck. You can see the red chilli powder that the chicken and lamb was doused with. One bite and one of the guests cleared all sinuses and orifices. The garlic in the garlic basil made the chicken bitter and dry. Our food had hair in every dish except the rice. It was a windy day but c'mon Service: Food comes out hot and fast. But, they kept forgetting silverware and water. Overall: Had high hopes but won't be eating Indian in Sausalito again thanks to Sartaj.

A local place to enjoy some OK Indian food. The chai could be stronger and more authentic.

Horrible service. Food takes forever to come out and when it arrives it's cold. Tons of better alternatives in the area.

I can see why because their food is delicious. Fiancé and I got their momo platter (4 each of the veggie, pork and chicken momo), chicken kabob, and chicken thukpa (noodle soup). We have never had thukpa before and it was pretty good and warming. Perfect on a chilly night. Momos were juicy, and beautifully wrapped. The chicken kabob came out sizzling and was quite juicy. Their portion size is great. We even had some leftovers for next day. Service was fast and friendly. Was impressed there were just two people waiting tables/taking orders for a full house. Food came out quick and there were even a couple takeout orders while we were there so they definitely managed the flow quite well. Would definitely come back if I'm in the area again.

That might not be a great thing though because the food just didn't have enough flavor for me. To be fair, maybe it's a difference between Indian and Himalayan food, I'm not really sure. I think it might work for people who would enjoy Indian cuisine if the flavors were more subtle. Service was friendly and everything was prepped well, it just wasn't for me. I wish I would have noticed the dumplings on the menu before ordering or that the staff would have pointed them out, because I would have liked to try them and I'm not sure if or when I'll be back.

Over the last few years, I've worked my way through nearly the entire menu and brought numerous guests here; every single one has left impressed. The interior is peaceful and welcoming, but it's the owners who truly make the experience. Their warmth and genuine hospitality--whether we are dining in or picking up takeout--make it a genuine pleasure to support this business. The food is nothing short of phenomenal. The curries are rich and deeply flavorful without ever being greasy. Here are the standouts I find myself ordering on repeat: Himalayan Goat Curry & Himalayan Lamb Curry: Both feature incredibly tender meat in aromatic, rich gravies. The goat curry, in particular, is a less dry version of Sukha Gosht--you can tell it's been slow-cooked for hours. Fish Coconut Curry: Perfectly cooked salmon in a decadent, and beautifully spiced coconut curry sauce. It ties with the goat curry as my absolute favorite. Aloo Bodi & Tama: This Nepalese dish was a new discovery for me. The contrast between the crunchy bamboo shoots and creamy potatoes/black-eyed peas is superb, and the spices never overwhelm the vegetables. The Classics (Dal, Palak Paneer, Chicken Tikka Masala): The Dal is pure comfort (exactly like my mother's!), and the Palak Paneer tastes like it came straight from an authentic Punjabi dhaba. Their Chicken Tikka Masala is a close second to the famous version at the iconic Chor Bazaarr restaurant in London--tangy, spicy, and delicious. A true local treasure!

Because the food is good, the restaurant did get pretty crowded and seemed that the servers (likely owners) where a bit overwhelmed. Dropping one star because of that reason and also because the lady server/owner was visibly sick and although she ended up putting on a mask she clearly shouldn't have worked that day.
