I usually drop in to order at random when I'm craving a bit of spice in my life and they're always so welcoming. Their chicken korma thali is absolutely to die for and I've never left the establishment dissatisfied with the quality (or portions) of food. I even stopped by a few months back while I was feeling a bit under the weather and the waitress, who recognized me from previous visits, was kind enough to bring me a complimentary bowl of soup to help me feel better while I waited for my order! With their new location, since they recently moved, I would say is so much better given the more open concept of the layout that allows for natural sunlight. Taking the time to dine here is a must if you're visiting Sausalito and feel the need for more flavor with your next meal! read more

Terrific lunch today. I must say I was surprised because years ago I went to a restaurant by this name several doors away. New management, new location - whatever the reason, it's now an excellent Indian restaurant. We chose medium spice level and it was authentically spicy! read more

Love it for quality and value- the lentil soup and lamb stew is excellent. The staff is friendly, the wine inexpensive and the environment is nice. read more

Great food, extensive menu with affordable prices. Large portions. Really tasty..a hidden gem in Sausalito

Great food! I love how the food wasn't salty and fast serve ! You can sit inside and outside. Loved the service and politeness would defiantly come again read more

One of the best indian Cafés I've ever tried. Service was very friendly and helpful in choosing my dishes, professional and welcoming. Food was amazing, I had some whole wheat chapati, chicken samosas, and spinach kebab with sauces. Very flavourful and complex in taste, simple at the same time. I'd go back again next time I'm going to San Francisco. I ate outside in the Sun, which made the experience even better, as I was soaking up all the sunny weather I could. read more

Food was really good. Specially the price point is amazing for the quality. Super quick service!!

I get the tikka masala here, takeout. Medium is a tad hotter than at other places, which I really liked. One day I asked if they could go hotter and Ronnie and I got into a long conversation about heat versus flavor. I did get hotter yesterday and it was heavenly. Thanks, Ronnie! After tip, it's about $23.50 for lunch. Totally worth it once a week. Sure, Sausalito's expensive but what am I going to do, get in my car and drive to an inferior restaurant in another town just to save five bucks? Ridiculous. Can't wait to explore the rest of the menu. read more

Hot Momos are very flavourful, Chow mein was spicy and delicious, Chile Batura is decent too, overall decent place to visit.

Not a terrible establishment on its own, but when compared to most Indian cuisine, spices and flavor are lacking. I dont consider myself to be that picky with food either, but this was just OK and i wouldn't recommend this spot for something in Sausalito. if you are looking for very authentic indian food i wouldn't recommend this place, and i think Sausalito has better restaurants in general with the area specializing in other cuisines. If you don't care for much spice and want something on the VERY mild side, go for this. - The chicken momos had a decent texture but lacked flavor. Which is okay, but the sauce they were given with ALSO lacked flavor. They also took a while to get the momos out, which is okay- but we had hoped to stop by for a quick snack, not order a meal so i thought it would be a bit faster at least- especially since it was listed as an appetizer. - The chicken samosa my sibling had lacked flavor, and it was like eating ground up chicken with little seasoning. - The mango lassi was ok to me- i liked it, but that is because i prefer mango lassi to be less tart, while my parents said it lacked mango flavor. - The samosa chaat wasn't bad and probably the best item we ordered but nothing special. Service: Kind staff, but food did take a particularly long time to get out. Specifically, it took a while to get the momos out, but we had hoped to stop by for a quick snack, not order a meal so i thought it would be a bit faster at least- especially since it was listed as an appetizer. Ambiance: Quaint, small restaurant setting with nice seating. read more

The service was fast, and the food was great. I would recommend getting a naan with your order. The mango lassi was a 10/10, not too heavy or too sweet. The inside of the restaurant is well decorated, and has a relaxing ambiance to it. Plus, the bathroom is easy to find. I would come here again! read more

It was my first time to ever try Indian food. Friend noted it is not that great. It was good enough for a first timer like me. My friend and I loved the chicken (with soup in the picture) with the naan bread. The naan bread was truly yummy. Barbecue chicken for first timers like me was yummy. Service was slow and terrible though. We decided not to order extra naan bread since the service was really slow. At the time of our visit, place wasn't busy. There were only three filled tables including ours. read more

We eat here every week because the food is delicious, nourishing and comforting. They give generous portions and attentive service at a great price. Ronnie is one of the people who works there. We adore this place!!! Best Indian food in the Bay Area and excellent service My girls and I come from across the Bay by Ferry just to go to this restaurant, it truly is that good. Their new locations is lovely too and much bigger, would love to see it filled up more with diners as it deserves. read more

A local place to enjoy some OK Indian food. The chai could be stronger and more authentic.

Delicious flavors, friendly service, inviting atmosphere. Special Nepali dishes and hospitality - their momos are fantastic. Thali, naan, desserts, mango lassi, all are great. Chai bar featuring almond milk chai option is also a unique delight. Extensive menu has us going back often. read more

Add vegetarian masala, vegetables were mushy and not enough vegetables. Shrimp vindaloo was a little bit dry with not the most pleasant flavor. One of 2 to 3 tables being served yet service was fair ambience fair ate outside little bit on the cold side would be great to have heaters read more

I came to Sartaj on a weekday evening and it was easy to get a table inside. It's such a cute place on the outside and cozy inside. My favorite thing about Sartaj is that they have dairy chai and a dairy-free chai! PLUS, it is available during dinner for costumers to serve themselves. The food was super yummy! I usually go to another spot, but Sartaj has become my favorite! Definitely recommend coming hear for a delicious meal. read more

Sartaj is a North Indian restaurant with outdoor and indoor dining. The chicken tikka marsala with basmati rice I had for a late lunch was tepid (not hot). I also ordered almond milk chai. The dispenser for this is self service but only had a mouthful's worth. Had to wait a long, long time to get my beverage. The place was super busy mid afternoon! Guess the kitchen was too swamped with groups of (majority) Indian diners. But that's a good sign, right? On the fence about trying again as the chicken was dry and needed salt. Food: 3.5 stars Family effort at this restaurant: 5 stars read more

Dropped in on a Sunday. Few empty tables so business was brisk. We were 5 and ordered Bhindi, Malai Kofta, Garlic Basil Chicken Kebab and Mixed tandoori platter along with appetizers. Requested medium spicy The hara kebab was crisp, not oily. You get 5 pcs. A plate of samosas gets you two pieces. Both were easy on the tummy, mildly spiced and tasty. The chutneys were meh. Entrees: I suppose if you are out of towners or want what passes for typical north indian food, the veggie entrees will do. The tandoori platter was a train wreck. You can see the red chilli powder that the chicken and lamb was doused with. One bite and one of the guests cleared all sinuses and orifices. The garlic in the garlic basil made the chicken bitter and dry. Our food had hair in every dish except the rice. It was a windy day but c'mon Service: Food comes out hot and fast. But, they kept forgetting silverware and water. Overall: Had high hopes but won't be eating Indian in Sausalito again thanks to Sartaj. read more

Delicious Indian restaurant in Sausalito! I love ordering their vegetarian platter. They also have delicious chai tea. Lots of outdoor seating, which is nice on a beautiful day. read more

* Average Food, * Below average service, * OK Price. ~ Barely average value overall As others have noted, it's almost like the servers are reluctant to ' be of service', and whatever suggestions we were offered, seemed more like confirmations of what we were questioning, rather than answering any questions we had. And seemed very distracted by who knows what given there was so few people in the restaurant itself. Food quality/taste was just OK at best, and I really didn't appreciate the huge plate of white rice [glycemic index anyone?] forced upon me as 'included' , and of course inflating the $tab, and no substitutions were available either. With a bit of work, effort and thoughtfulness, Sartaj could be a nice destination, but, there's simply too many better food/quality/service/value alternatives close by to second-chance this spot, which is a shame. Seating and interior was pretty spartan , and there's a small amount of outdoor dining area as well . read more

Sartaj India Cafe is a great tasting Indian restaurant in Sausalito! It is off the main road, but totally within walking distance of Sausalito's main tourist area. We came here on a Saturday evening and dined outside where outdoor tables and chairs were set up. Caledonia street was blocked off to vehicles in order for outdoor dining to be set up on the street. We ordered ahead on the phone and walked over to the restaurant, so we didn't have to wait very long for our food. I ordered the Goldy Special Fish Tikka Masala Thali ($13.95), which is tilapia fish cooked in a creamy tomato based sauce. This dish was REALLY GOOD!!! There were plenty of chunks of tilapia and it was nicely cooked, and not deep fried. The creamy tomato sauce was very tasty and went very well with the fish! The dish also came with mixed veggies, which were really good, a piece of Indian tortilla called chapathi, rice, and some raita. It was a very delicious and satisfying meal! We also ordered the Raj Special Vegan Plate with Dhal ($10.95), which is mixed veggie stew, rice, and chapatti. It came with garbanzo beans and was pretty good! They have a good selection of vegetarian and some vegan dishes. They even separate their menu to section vegetarian and non-vegetarian items. I didn't realize till after dinner, but they have a really good hot chai tea! It's not too sweet, but they offer sugar on the side for those that want their tea sweeter. Overall, we had an excellent dinner at Sartaj India Cafe! The restaurant is really small already so being able to eat outside is a plus. The food is excellent and the chai tea is fantastic! Service was also really good. I am definitely looking forward to eating here again. Currently, they are doing take-out and dine outside options. Employees are wearing masks and hand sanitizers are available. read more

Sartaj India Cafe is one of those friendly neighborhood restaurants that turns out surprisingly AMAZING food! It doesn't look like much from the outside, but wait until you try their curries! The menu is split into a non-veg and veg section, and you simply can't go wrong with any of their thali plates, which come with a choice of curry along with basmati rice and a chapati flatbread, along with a couple other sides! I started with the lamb korma thali, which was simply mind-blowing! You can customize the spice level of the curries, and spicy is the only way to go! The coconut milk curry was super creamy and came with tender pieces of lamb, sliced almonds, and raisins, which yielded a perfect balance of sweet, savory, and spicy flavors that went perfectly with the rice and chapati. The thali also came with a potato samosa, along with an herb chutney and tamarind chutney for dipping. The samosa was unlike most I've had--the dough was particularly thick (very bready), and I believe the samosa was baked rather than deep-fried. Unlike the curries, however, the samosa filling and chutneys were relatively bland and didn't particularly stand out. I asked for a recommendation for a vegetarian thali, and our server immediately suggested the Mattar Paneer, a delicious, creamy tikka masala curry enveloping cubes of paneer and green peas. In contrast to the korma, this curry was on the sweet/acidic side (thanks to the tomatoes), but it too came with a nice spicy kick! The sauce was the perfect complement to the paneer cheese and the sweet peas, and the plate also came with a delicious dal (lentils) and raita (yogurt sauce) to make for a complete meal! Simply amazing! read more

Cute little restaurant. Overall the food was good, can't complain about that. Everything was fresh and cooked perfectly. The naan was some of the best Naan ive had in my life. Everything I got, i asked for spicy and they delivered. It was almost hard to eat from the spice alone. So i really love that they didn't give us the "foreigner" spice. The only thing I think they could do better from my experience, is to pay attention and serve you. For the most part they were hanging around watching videos on their phones. read more
