I really enjoyed India Palace. I am a large man and I like to eat. I was driving on the highway and got hungry so I decided to have Indian food because it is flavorful. I wish my wife would make Indian food but she is not Indian. Anyways, I started with the palace or derves plate for two. I am one person but i usually eat for two. It was delicious. I thought about ordering a second plate but wanted to save room for the main course. I ordered the Raja special because I think that word means king and I am a king for sure. It was amazing. This place has been our family's favorite "Go to" in Mill Valley for Indian for 20 some years. One of my daughter's most favorite, requested place to get food from no matter what. The setting/location is what throws every visitor/non-local off, let alone the naysayers who have never tried it. Yet once you walk in you are transported to a white linen tablecloth and china set tables for a most delicious Chai tea and Indian meal. Booths and tables- eating there is my personal favorite but we tend to get it to go. When my kids were small they like that there is a window where they can watch these guys make all the different Naans/breads in a traditional black tandoori oven? It is what sets their naan apart from everyone else. The staff is so friendly and professional, at this point it really feels like family. Don't know what to get? Tikka Masala, Paneer Bhurgi, Plain Naan, pilau (rice) and Spinach & Onion pakoras for starters. My daughter's favorite meal and restaurant. Yes, the exterior is... let's go with "unassuming". But inside is a delicious Indian spot with attentive service at fair prices (especially for Marin). there are many types of restaurants in marin that i consider, at their best, to be less good than the same thing just across the bridge. that's one thing i always hated about the "bridge and tunnel crowd" as it's known in manhattan. you want big city depth and complexity, live in the big city... what arrogance is this stuff called "yout" made of. so here i've been a b&t guy for longer than i want to think, and my tollpass bill shows it, every month. very few restaurants here are in my lousy and usually wrong opinion to be as good as just a few miles over the orange rainbow. but here is one exception. there are some great ones in the city, some much pricier ones there as well, but for the most part the India Palace is worth staying home when you're in the mood for this type of food. and for those with a certain taste like the one i have, you'll find this place to be even better when i tell you that one item NOT on the menu but that can be had if you ask for it is... goat curry. not only that, but it's often available on the lunch buffet offering. It's a standard curry, meaning not hot spicy but plenty well characterized, with goat flavors decidedly well expressed. couple that with a wide assortment of most things you'd want to find, as well as an excellent tandoori oven, that pretty well eliminates my interest in leaving marin for the city when i'm looking for a good indian menu to order from. good to know i learned something after the years i've been around here. read more

HORRIBLE service experience. Waiters were rude and restaurant looked dirty and grimy. Got the buffet to-go and when I put food in my to-go box I was watched closely by the waiters as if I was doing something criminal. Nothing strange about me to be watched so closely- I'm a super clean and polite professional. Very unfriendly staff and food was meh. Decades ago when we lived in Mill Valley, this was our favorite Marin Indian restaurant. Finding ourselves in Tiburon after a hike, this seemed like a great opportunity to check it out again. We weren't disappointed! After a short 20 minute wait from the time we ordered, we picked up our Vegetarian Thali dinner, and a few a la carte items (Spinach & Onion Pakoras, Tandoori Chicken, Fish Masala, and Garlic Naan). Everything was spectacular! Flavors were exactly as I remembered. I was especially pleased with the Tandoori Chicken... moist, flavorful. All too often Tandoori Chicken ends up being dry and powdery. Not at India Palace! I don't know if we got more food because it was takeout and they filled all the containers, or this is standard fare, but we have more than enough for a second full meal. I no longer care that it's at the other end of Marin from where we live... we're coming back much more often! read more

I've been going here since 1980's. I have always loved this place and accepted higher price. I feel cheated again by Grubhub. I have only had bad experiences each time. Even the $10 redeem coupon was fake. Tells you a lot about their ethics which they lack. I defy them to contact me to make right of this. A bunch of time wasters. Excellent! A neighborhood staple in the same building with the Travelodge of Sausalito-Mill Valley. Food was really great, my meal was well coursed out and all dishes were very well presented. I regularly order their Garlic Naan bread to accompany their Saag Paneer curry, but decided to try their creamy Tikka Masala curry this time with a few appetizers and it was all delicious! The location may be off-putting, but the food is delicious. This is still our favorite place for Indian food. Vegan and vegetarian options are available, the curries range from mild (which is plenty spicy for me ) to hot, and the naan options are delightful! My husband loves lamb and is pleased with the variety of different dishes, while I lean towards the seafood and veggies. The ambiance isn't much but we have always had good service. We haven't tried take out yet, but they advise ordering an hour and a half ahead, at least. read more

Well, I'd tell you about it, but they close at 2 except for to go orders. Although we were there before 2, but I guess they don't like washing dishes or something, since they wouldn't serve us. And they had an AYCE buffet, and wouldn't let us have that either. First time went to this restaurant and actually into any restaurant since the pandemic hit. So We were excited. Me being vegan was excited from the reviews that they took special care of vegans. Unfortunately my experience was not the same. My food contained butter when I specifically asked for it being made vegan. We were offered to make it again but I am not allergic to dairy and I hate wasting food so I just ate it. Then I felt bad about it later because I love animals too. Also, I was never offered the "chef's special" vegan meal, like the other reviewers. What I ordered from the menu tasted very basic. My friends and family (vegetarians) thought the food was just average. We had multiple servers and they were all good though. We will probably not be back. read more

Attached to the Travelodge. We were staying at the Travelodge, Yelp gave this place a good review, so we tried it. It was much better then our room. We had serious doubts after we checked into our as what kind of place this was. We were shocked when we walked in. It looked like a typical restaurant. The service was good, live music was played by two gentleman in the corner. The butter chicken exceeded expectations. If I were in the area I'd return. The only tough part is the parking. The dining experience was one of the most unique I've ever had. From waiter who's quiet who "gives attitude" to one of if not the nest host/server/owner I've ever had the pleasure to meet. The food for a first timer was beyond exceptional and I can't believe they didn't have more business than what was there. In all honesty, those saying the server has an attitude, obviously never worked in the service industry before, and it shows. I went around 6pm on a weekday in July with an extremely rude coworker, but even so got free desert because I openly expressed my curiosity for Indian cuisine. Absolutely fabulous! This place was so exceptional and convenient nestled next door to the Travelodge we were staying at. We loved all the food, the lamb was exceptional. Our party was all over the map with dietary restrictions from vegan, gluten free, dairy free meat eater, vegetarian, raw food, etc and they had enough menu options to accommodate EVERYONE. Expensive for what you get. Ordered a take-out with two main dishes, rice, naan and one appetizer and the bill was $62. The main dishes and rice came in three small plastic containers which don't keep them warm. The food was reasonably good, but just felt a bit ripped-off by the prices. I have always wanted to come here since this resto was featured in Check Bay Area tv show many years ago. We had lunch buffet last Saturday at 12:30 pm. Service was good. Food was not that much in choices but there was variety not just chicken 10 ways like in other buffets. They had lamb! I think it is only $11+ for the buffet thus the very limited number of dishes and the single dessert (rice pudding). I wish there was gulab jamun. Nothing to complain for the price. Not sure about the exact price per head because my cousin paid though it was I who invited them and it was my intention to be the host. Maybe the a la carte is more delish. Maybe we were just a little late. Maybe food was delish at 11:30 am. They have four stars in Yelp, and I will give it another chance to find out why next time I find myself in the area.
