Some friends and I were at Cuesta Park nearby, looking for something to eat. We Yelped and found this place, so we came. We arrived at just about the right time; we snagged one of the last open tables. I ordered the veg thali, which came with a variety of food, including 2 vegetable curries, naan, a crispy white taco-like shell, lentils, a fried flour thing, banana chips, white rice, yellow rice, yogurt, and this really sweet carrot dessert. I gave the white rice, carrot, and yogurt to my friend, and the rest of my food was pretty good. Everything was pretty flavorful and not too oily. My friend also ordered a Chicken 65 for the table, which was basically spicy fried chicken and served with the green chutney sauce. The green sauce was really good! The chicken was pretty good too, but there was a lot of fried flour, not enough chicken. Another friend ordered chili chicken which was pretty good. Good flavor and spicy. Someone also got the goat biryani, which tasted very odd compared to other biryanis I've had. She had leftovers and nobody really wanted to take it. I liked my food though, and it was a lot of food for the price of $8.95 pre-tax pre-tip. The service here is pretty terrible though; the waiter started talking to a customer when someone at our table was deciding what to order. Very unprofessional. Our food was also pretty slow to come out. My guy friends went to the bathroom and found two guys in there; apparently the lock was broken. Anyway, the food was good, service was terrible. I may be back if I'm in the area. I think the food deserves 4 stars, but the service was really bad (I usually don't ding restaurants too much for bad service, but a waiter talking to someone in the middle of us ordering is unacceptable). read more

I love momos! I crave them ever so often and haven't really found a place that serves them till I chanced upon Himalayan Kitchen. And I wasn't disappointed. The momos here are pretty good. So are the chapatis/rotis. The rotis have a very homemade feel to them and remind me of the rotis my mom makes (which is a very good thing :D). But I was a little disappointed with some of the other things I ordered here. Both the Gobi Manchurian and Chole Masala had a very strong sweetness to them, which I'm not a big fan of. It almost felt like sugar was added to these dishes (to make them less spicy, perhaps!). The next time I go here, I'll make sure to ask for my dishes extra spicy. Himalayan Kitchen was certainly a pleasant experience with delicious food. I went with the Lamb Tikka Masala which was excellent. The subtle differences between Himalayan/Nepalese/Indian food is beyond my taste buds, so sorry I can't provide a better description. To me, it tasted similar to other Indian tikka masala I've had: rich, creamy sauce with no spicyness. In fact, I could have used more spice, haha. We tried several types of roti including the garlic and the butter. The garlic is super garlic-y, so I'd recommend it to garlic lovers exclusively. The butter, was of course delicious. What food with butter is not delicious?! To end the meal we had to go with Mango & Sticky rice. The sticky rice was as good as I was hoping and the mangos were perfectly ripe. Great Nepali restaurant. I am in love with the simplicity of their dishes and the warm friendliness of the people who work here. Prices are very reasonable too. Only problem, you might have is finding the restaurant as it's off of El Camino - it's diagnolly opposite to the Shell gas station across from PAMF. About their food - - Momos - near perfect! they serve these famous Nepali dumplings with 2 kinds of sauces. I love the spicy sauce and belive that these momos are above average, but in an area, where there are not many restaurants serving momos- I call them near perfect. - Gobi Manchurian - this is an indo- chinese dish. A dish that many people China would not know of but in India is considered a Chinese dish due to the liberal use of soy sauce and Ajinomoto. This is the one restaurant where the gobi manchurian is crisp like it should be and replicates this Indian street food perfectly - Saag Paneer - quite mild on the spices but screams sincerity in the ingredients used and tastes like home food. But if you like Indian Punjabi dishes, this is not close to Punjabi Saag in it's richness and might be a helathier option - Veg Chowmein - Again, this is a popular street food of the indo - chinese variety and they make it just like the street food available in India. They have a limited menu and serve rice and rotis(humongus Rajjot sized) with the curries. We had the a la carte menu - started with an off-beat Cut Mirchi. It's batter-fried jalapeno pepper, I think. It had surprisingly spicy punches. It was served with three different chutneys. Next, we ordered Goat Curry and a couple of types of bread - Garlic Naan and Onion Kulcha. The curry was superb and the meat was very well-cooked. I thoroughly enjoyed it. And while the bread portions were pretty generous, the quantity was just about okay with the curry. We also ordered the Hyderabadi Chicken Dum Biryani - I think it was the best biryani I've had in a while. Some people prefer a very spicy biryani. I like biryani with more of a subtle flavor. And this was just that! The rice was perfectly cooked and had the right moisture, and the chicken was simply brilliant. The portion size was also huge. Full points for taste, no doubt. VERY nice staff and manager(s). VERY delicious food. I had the Himalayan chicken cubes which were very nicely spiced and the yellow dal was absolutely delicious. Also don't miss the SARBAT (lemonade w/mint)--beautiful and delicious. I will definitely return but would like to offer the management a few critiques b/c I think the overall experience here could be really enhanced by two simple changes: 1) serve some BEER, any beer just bottled beer, a little beer goes a long way and is perfect with your delicious food 2) The interior paint job is interesting and brightly colored, however, the lighting is TERRIBLE--the blaring overhead fluorescent lighting makes one very very uncomfortable and it's very un-romantic. Change to hanging lanterns/lamps or candles, nothing expensive needed but the fluorescent makes everything look terrible, including the food . . . Himalayan or Indian style lanterns would enhance the entire place perfectly and not cost much--and the interior would then be befitting the presentation of your delicious food! read more

HOLY MOLY(!!!) these two dishes literally burned my mouth and intestines but they were so amazing & delicious. Never drank so much water in one sitting in my life! A star so that i can write a review. The most irresponsible set of team with one of the most reckless and worst behaviors ever. We had a gathering for maha ashtami/ ram navmi lunch and i ordered a veg biryani large tray for catering. It was purely my share for a gathering for 50 people as everyone was getting their share of food. I speak to the managers and confirm the booking 3 days in advance. All they delivered today was non veg chicken biryani. It was one of the most disastrous moment of my life. On an auspicious occasion, after a pious ritual it struck a bolt in my heart. I called them and the manager who took the order was not available. He dint even pick his phone either. I narrated the whole episode to the team there and they started talking among themselves making fun of my statements and laughing at my reactions while i was on the line with them. After a laugh they offered me that they will send a veggie biryani now through uber and the event was in south san francisco. It was 70 minutes away. By the time they would send it the event was over. All the guest purely had appetizers and snacks. At the last minute we reached out a local restaurant and ordered another veggie biryani and served that but by then lot of my guests were off and they went without having it. The team is so irresponsible that till now they have not bothered to call or reciprocate. They are not even taking my phone cals. Please donot go to such places who donot have basic respect and values for religious beliefs. Donot encourage them for their bulk foods. This place should shut down immediately. Adding more info on the above review, today i reached out to the manager for the issue and i was not at all surprised at his reaction. The first statement was "madam, we have already refunded the money, what else now" Absolutely no courtesy, no respect and tremendous attitude and arrogance. They were not concerned for either the embarrassment or the inconvenience we had to suffer. They were busy proving their greatness of refunding the amount. No wonder the team responded so arrogantly. Not a bad find at all! We found Himalayan Kitchen tucked away in a tiny plaza with not much else. Thankfully, they send out ads/deals every month which proved to be useful because this place was pretty bustling when we came in on Saturday! Between the two of us, we had the Momos, Chana Masala and Goat Curry and we were not disappointed! It was our first time trying Momos and I really enjoyed it. It tasted like normal Chinese dumplings but, came with a nice dipping sauce similar to that of Masala with a touch of lime which, is a nice change from what I usually have dumplings with. The Chana Masala was also pretty decent. It was a little sweeter than I would have liked but, having chickpeas in there was a nice change from all the meat we eat. Definitely the favorite was the Goat Curry though. Delicious, tender chunks of curry stewed in a rich and yummy curry sauce. This dish had just enough spice and the curry tasted so hearty--a winner in our books. Though it wasn't the best food, I've ever had, it was certainly memorable and we will definitely be coming back for more! read more

Nice lunch buffet. Quite a big spread, tasty food. Upma, uttappam, Saag paneer, sambar, dal, garlic chicken, eggplant fry, etc. constitute the rest of the buffet. Desserts section is just as delicious with the steaming hot kheer, carrot halwa and fruit custard. Overall, horrible experience! I went there with my wife on Saturday at around 3:30 pm. We were starving but wanted to try something different that would be open at that time. Himalayan/Nepalese fit the bill. Momos were good, so was the himalayan lemonade, which is basically ground mint in normal lemonade. They goofed up our original order (we had ordered 2 entres with "special himalayan" spices. One turned out to be normal run-of the mill indo-chinese fusion dish Chili Chicken which was mistakenly NOT put under their Indo-Chinese menu. Which was ok. We sent it back. Since we were starving now, we ordered anything that might be ready. They recommended vijaywada biryani. But after waiting for another 45 minutes, the biryani we got was out of this world. The rice was COLD. The Egg in the biryani was COLD. They had REMOVED the chicken from the biryani and replaced it with the Chili Chicken we had just sent back. 5 stars for creativity and 1 star for service. Of course we will never come back here. Tip: Just peek into their kitchen. I wonder how they still have the license to serve any food here. read more

I went there because it is very close to where I live and because it had good yelp reviews. Then I realized it only a dozen reviews so I was expecting a so so place. It's a small place, doesn't have much clientele so far but I found out they just opened, I decided to give them a try. I am a food snob so I thought I'd be disappointed because the place is very simple with no decor at all. I was so wrong. Everything was absolutely delicious. We ordered the somosas, the momos (which are like dumplings but better because I don't like dumplings to start with) Then curried lamb and spinach. I want to spread the voice about this place for selfish purposes. I want them to thrive and stay on business long. I plan to come back often. I've sampled a few of the restaurants around here but nothing's really stood out as *the* go-to spot (and we're all seeking that reliable go-to). Welp, I think I may have just found my Indian go-to. The boy and I were hungry (well he was more hangry, but hey) and I picked Himalayan Kitchen mainly because the reviews were good and I could order pickup through the Yelp app. The boy got lamb tikka masala and garlic naan, and I ordered a chicken thali so I could get a sampling of different things. There were lots of selections available, so I picked chicken tikka masala, saag paneer, butter naan, and kheer for dessert. I do love my little samplers! When I got there, WOW, it was busy! The restaurant was about 3/4 full of diners (which had escalated to 5/6 full by the time I left) but this place does a brisk takeout business! Two Doordashers and five other pickups came and left by the time I received my to-go food (I got there earlier than the app suggested so I don't blame the restaurant for this). It's a little tucked off the street in a strip mall, but parking was pretty easy. My order was apparently hung up a bit because they needed to make the naan, which I appreciate them checking before giving to me. However, my thali was...not what I ordered. Instead of the items I selected, I was given chicken curry, chicken biryani, a pea and potato side, roti, and carrot halwa. Now, you'll notice my rating is still pretty high, and why? Because the food was really tasty. Delicious flavor in everything. I was looking for a sampling of their cuisine, and I got it - it just wasn't what I picked...but it was still good! The boy really enjoyed his food too, though he got it medium spiced and said he'd probably revert to mild for next time. I ordered mine spicy, and I can say they definitely delivered on that count. Actually about a 3.5, but I'll round up since they're just starting out. Pretty decent Himalayan food. The chicken chili curry was delightful, perfectly spiced for our white (but still spice-loving) palates. The lamb special curry was also nicely executed, rich and warmly flavorful but not at all spicy-hot, though it seemed to be missing a little of the depth that I've had in this dish elsewhere. The lamb burrito was fairly decent. I wish it were a little more robust and spicy like a Curry Up Now burrito, this one tasted mostly of rice and tortilla with the lamb and avocado as a background note. Nice effort, but I'd like to see it saucier. The samosas were excellent, a nice thick wrapper with the usual veggie filling. I appreciated the extra black pepperiness of the tamarind chutney, which was an interesting offset to the mildness of the cilantro/mint chutney. I wasn't all that enthralled by the saag paneer, but it was clearly a different style than what I'm used to with Indian food -- the spinach was whole and not cooked down very much, so it still had a bit of a raw flavor to it. Not inherently bad, just not the sort of saag paneer I tend to enjoy. The momos were decent and pot-stickery, with somewhat thick crusts. A little underfilled, but totally serviceable, with yellow sauce -- sorry, I'm not entirely sure what the sauce is, but it's what I've had with momos at other Himalayan places, so I'd assume it's fairly traditional. The masala chai was delightful, and they offered free refills too. Bonus! One our visit, the service was somewhat lackadaisical, but it's clear they're still getting set up, so I can cut them some slack. Overall, it's not as fantastic as the other local Himlalyan/Nepalese places I've tried, but that is a pretty high bar. Selection is quite limited, but the execution is decent. It's more a neighborhood place, so if you don't feel like trekking to Little Nepal or Taste of the Himalayas (both of whose food is divine), this is a reasonable substitute. read more

Highly recommend this (literally) hidden gem!! It opened just a month ago I believe, but we saw the great reviews so decided to check it out. Service was super nice and efficient. The food was authentic, tasted home-made and really delicious. There's enough choice on the menu to keep you wanting to come back, and yet they've narrowed it down to a few favorites done well, rather than doing too many things that are bleh! We had momos (similar to Asian potstickers or gyoza dumplings - but these have thicker shells) - which weren't as big as I remember them being in India/Nepal - but tasted exactly the same! They have a choice of 5 or 10 pieces. If you're 2 or more at the table, go for 10 unless you're planning to order a ton of other dishes, cos they go quickly! The sauce the momos come with is delish as well (and spicy)! We wanted the goat curry, but they were sold-out :( so we'll definitely be back to try that. Instead, we had the chicken chowmein (spot on perfect - non-greasy and the veggies were flash fried so they weren't limp) and chicken chilly. Others have raved about the latter, but it was so-so. Oh! And they brought out fresh rotis/chappatis - unlike most places that just seem to reheat pre-made ones. Loved it! Hoping they add some mood/ambiance enhancers as business grows... e.g. soft music (to block out the screaming kids that are at the next table), slightly less bright fluorescent lighting and perhaps remove the old Taqueria sign from the front window?! I say reserve your table or your waiting for sure! its a small place with around 10 tables . The things I like about the place was the fact that the Menu was simple and clear . It kind of reminded me of the restaurants back in India . Food was tasty , I was shocked the quantity one dish offers you. You will be so stuffed in the end that you wish you didnt order so much! I love the Sarbat! It was minty and really refreshing. My not to favorite part was the "long wait to get my food / Place the order " At the end when we got our food it came in all jumbled with the starters at the end and the main course in the beginning. Four stars is definitely appropriate for this place. My friend and I ordered the Chicken Biryani, Chicken Tikka Masala, and the Momos. Biryani and Tikka Masala get a thumbs up for me. I probably won't order the Momos again. I ordered the food mild and there was still some spice to it, but not overwhelming! Our check came out to $27 without tip and we had a ton of leftovers. I come here all the time during work and since introducing my Co - workers, they come here all the time as well and drag me with them. They have expanded/remodeled and it's large and very nice esthetically now. Also, their menu has expanded quite a bit. They still have all of the old Napalese food and other old menu items as well as a lot more Indian dishes now. Staff here is very friendly as well. Being Indian, I'm very picky about my Indian food and this place tops my list. read more

Never coming back. The two stars are because the people were really nice and engaging. Perhaps the chef was out that day, given the other ratings, but really? Worst I've ever had. We had curried goat, lamb special, dal, and saag paneer. Goat and lamb were tough, missing a lot of flavors, and the lamb was not fresh when they started. No subtle layering of flavors, just a weak, hasty preparation. The saag paneer had a weird sweet element. The dal was still dry, and each lentil was only half-cooked. Mealy and tasteless.
