Many know this as Charlie's house in the movie Top Gun but in reality this is Dr. Henry Graves's 1887 Victorian cottage which is one of the 1st homes in Oceanside. And while the home was painted back to what would have been the 1887 period color, during the renovation, far too many complained and basically demanded the color be redone to how it looked in Top Gun. Current hours are 1-8pm and will be adjusted, per the GM, to 12-8pm. I love that the renovation didnt completely bulldoze everything as the original flooring is till in place. Mavericks motorbike was added out front, which is pretty cool, and the interior walls and decor are really beautiful. I'm not a hand-pie kinda person and had heard this would be an ice cream parlor, but I guess that's where the in-house made mascarpone A la mode would come into play. Not sure if I would pay $5.00 for an A La Mode if it'll be as small as the hand pies when I can get a nice size scoop, for the same price, once Handles moves into town or even Nana & Pop Pop's small business over by the harbor. So ice cream here is out. Lastly, I am curious if these hand pies will be or are truly made and fried in-shop? I can say they weren't all made in-store today though since I was waiting on my order and noticed a gentleman walk over from Mission Pacific Hotel with a baking tray full of the hand-pies to drop off. Either way, the hand pies where good for a quick little bite of a snack to try and my kids enjoyed them which was most important. read more

We came here for my brother's birthday. It is a cute little place, they did a good job decorating. They have the Top Gun motorcycle out front. They have a patio off to the side with seating. They offer apple or cherries pies, and a seasonal pie. You can also get a pie al mode as well. The pies are not that big maybe 2x3 inches. I thought the cherry pie was good, but the strawberry pie was not that impressed with it. They coat the outside of the pies with sugar, a little much for my taste. It is a tourist checklist stop. Oside resident and finally checked out the touristy spot down by the pier. Waited for the hype and the long summer lines to fade away. Pie is ok. Nothing special. I would actually prefer a McDonald's Apple Pie for the taste and the price. These High Pies are smaller than my hand and I think are priced at $3.25 for one. I didn't try their coffee, but they do have a cup of Joe for $1. Def would recommend to come by to check out the top gun house and to walk through it. read more

The pies: We got a 3 pack of the apple pie. I was hoping all the negative reviews about the pies were wrong.. unfortunately they are all very on point and true. Didn't even have a chance to take a photo of the pie because it was so hard to take out of the box, they were basically stuck in it and got smushed in the process. Either the filling to crust ratio was off or the crust was underbaked that everything just felt and tasted all mushy. The house: definitely worth a visit! Five star for the house for sure! The vibe is aviation meets mom's home kitchen. The pies are delicious, if a little small for the price. Came to visit during the weekend before Thanksgiving. Clerk at the counter doesn't appear to like her job much, was aggressive when asked what the seasonal flavor was (we don't have one) and when asked for a chocolate dipping sauce (we don't have any dipping sauces). This is situated in the old Graves house which is about 130 years old. Yes it was also in the movie top gun when it was originally located 2 blocks south on a corner lot. Pie is finger food size. Ok, just small bites of various pie. We tried the seasonal pumpkin and apple. Both were ok but we dropped in for the ambiance. Sat on the side porch and snacked on them. As a fan of Top Gun, the experience is in checking out the house. The pies were a huge let down. Tried apple, strawberry, blueberry and cherry. Every one of them were average, at best. They tasted like they were reheated in a microwave and were swimming in oil. The filling was sparse and had no flavor. The size didn't justify the price. These things are tiny. They serve them upright in a box and they do not have the structural integrity for that. 4 stars only because i love top gun so much and minus 1 star for the pies. in my opinion the pies are not nearly as terrible as other reviews are making it seem to be! i mean, this is a tourist spot so it's not going to the best pie in your entire life, but it's cute! i got the 3 pies for $9, and i got apple, blueberry and peach (seasonal flavor!). i liked the peach pie the most, but they were all not bad! i appreciated that the pies weren't too sweet. service was great as well! staff were super friendly. there's also a lot to do in the area! i had planned to come here before i drove back up home but i failed to check the hours first before i arrived lol. however there are a lot of shops, restaurants and the pier/beach nearby to kill time! overall, you'd love it here if you love top gun. just don't have super high expectations for the pies! read more

So, today was not the best day to visit high pie, there was an event across the street on the stage at the beach and the entire area was crazy busy. We come from Pasadena area to visit family and hit up high pie when we can. Today we got lemon, peach and cherry.. omg they were hot and delicious!! We love your pies!!! I ordered 3 for $9 deal and had 2 blueberries and an apple. They were both delicious!!! The crust is buttery and the filling wasn't too sweet. I truly enjoyed them! Their coffee is only $3 and you get to choose the creamer of your choice - Almond, oat, or half and half. I chose oat and they didn't charge extra! Nowadays it's hard to find a cup of coffee for $3 so I thought that was a good deal even though the coffee was just a regular drip coffee. Pies are small compare to what we are used to. It's hard to find gluten free treats like this. To those complaining about the texture that are not allergic to gluten, you can easily seek for non-gluten free pies. Because gluten free treats this good are hard to come by, and nothing was off about the texture to me. They were crispy on the outside, fluffy inside, and perfectly flaky. The apple pie filling was my favorite, I also got the caramel sauce to go with it which was delicious as well. Blueberry filling was good too. It has a side porch and some other chairs right nearby, so you can watch the pier across the way while you eat your pie. The pie are pretty good. They're about 2-3 bites each and you can order them in packs of 3 or 12. We went with 3 a piece and enjoyed most of them. We each tried the blueberry, cherry and Apple and they were good. The little pies were pretty good! We got the lemon, peach, blueberry, apple, and the alamode apple with vanilla ice cream filling. I recently brought a big tour group of 35 people to High Pie in Oceanside and I have to say, the experience was absolutely amazing. The staff were incredibly accommodating and so nice They made sure that everyone in our group was comfortable and taken care of, which is no easy feat with such a large group. But the real star of the show was definitely the seasonal peach pie. These little hand pies ( kind of like a pop tart ) were absolutely delicious! They had a great selection to choose from, and every flavor we tried was just as good as the last. Another cool thing is the location. The shop is in the house from the movie Top Gun ! Overall, I can't say enough great things about our experience at High Pie. The staff were amazing and the pies were even better. We are locals and go here once in awhile. My kids love to bring people and show the house off so to speak. They love that it's famous for being in a movie and that it's in our city. It is a local gem. The pies themselves are tasty however they are very small and overpriced imo. They are bite sized even. We like the decor of the movie all around the inside of the house, the jumpsuits the workers wear, and the fact that it is right across from the pier. Today we went and had to actually wait to go inside as there were so many tourists taking photos outside. We don't mind as it's summer season. It's expected. Overall I wish the pies were either bigger or two in one serving for the price. They do heat them as they are ordered so they are fresh. My daughter did a class presentation on this place and unfortunately they were just too pricey for me to be able to purchase for the class. (It doesn't help that there are 31 kids in her room....but that's a public school concern). My vote is to stop by and have a pie if you're in the area.
