My wife and I tried this place and loved it! The actual location is very beautiful and the pies are delicious. We got all three flavors and each of them were scrumptious. Highly recommend getting the chocolate sauce. The service was great, the girl that took our order was very nice and gave us recommendations since it was our first time there. It took about 5 min to get our pies and they weren't busy, it gave us some time to look around and take some photos. The views here are stunning. The pies are small, but definitely worth it! Finally had a chance to try High Pie. I saw the bad reviews, but wanted to see for myself. Unfortunately, the Bad Reviews were correct. This was the smallest Pie I have ever seen and one of the worse pies I ever tasted. The pies are not made with Pie Filling but some sort of fruit preserve like filling. No pieces of cherry or apples in the pies, just Jelly. Borderline, disgusting. Took one bite, then a half bite and threw it away. I'm saddened because I was hoping this would be a place to bring friends or family when visiting. But this is a One and Done Pie shop. Try it once and won't ever go back. I am amazed that High Pie was approved for this Awesome location and have to question the selection process. It does not do the Top Gun house justice and cheapens the house and surrounding area. They really had an opportunity to kill it here with locals and tourists. They still might, but I don't believe they will ever get repeat visits. Save your money and your stomach. read more

This place is popularly known as the Top Gun house. People come here because of that and not necessary for their pies. They have 3 different flavors: apple, cherry, pumpkin, and blueberry. They would have been all fine if they were all baked to consistency. A few of the dozen pies that we bought were undercooked or underbaked. They tasted very doughy and was breaking apart because the bread was not baked properly. It was pretty expensive for $3 a piece, in my opinion. We were so disappointed. Starting with the goods, I am so happy they've kept this house as a historical sight and believe they've done an amazing job with the interior. There is SUCH potential for the food items the consistency of the filling was different for each hand pie. Totally delicious I think the strawberry ruhbard was my favorite. Here's why I'm going two stars the staff wasn't super friendly, was very young probably Highschool which is awesome they're employing kids and giving them that chance. But the attitude that came along with my questions was off putting and while waiting you can see the kitchen, I could see they had probably 25hand pies cooked and ready to be sugared but they were talking about personal things and not concerned about the almost 10 people waiting in the little area for their food... The house itself is adorable and a great tourist spot. But the Pies are sooooooo small and basic tasting and extremely expensive. It's a definite tourist trap. $9 for 3 tiny hand pies and $4 for a cup of basic coffee. The three hand pies together are the equivalent or less than 1 hostess hand pie. All of them were completely tasteless, the dough was raw, and the filling was cold. They were difficult to eat because they were so soft and fell apart immediately. The " pie" is undercooked, they all taste the same, Red stuff inside. The extra charge topping does add some flavor. They crumble up in your hand. This is a super fun place to see a Top Gun location. However, the menu is sparse and pie theme is like getting small tiny Hostess pies or Costco samples. Cute little tourist attraction spot if you want to come here to take pictures and eat good pie. It's across the street from the beach. They have apple & cherry pies on the menu. What wasn't on the menu, but I was able to order was the strawberry rhubarb pie. They aren't too sweet, but the coffee is. They had boxed water to be more eco friendly. Honestly, the building is situated in a very nice area with a great view of the ocean. The house itself is nicely decorated. Now on to the pies! The pies were subpar. They fell apart and the container that held the pies although they were cute it was hard to get the pies out. The service was slow and I couldn't even get a receipt. High-Pie is exactly what it's supposed to be. A bit touristy, but the 3-bite pies are perfect for walking around downtown Oceanside. I liked the apple with the government cheese dip. Came here after watching Top Gun Maverick. The house is based on the first movie but we love it nonetheless. It's amazing to see this piece of historic architecture surrounded by mid rise hotels. Line is not too bad on a weekend possibly around 10-20 min. The pie is delicious! Just the right size and very crunchy crispy crusts! We ordered all 3 flavors in a box and the portion is just right. I think the price is very reasonable given the location. Will come back next time we are in the area. The surrounding beaches and attractions adds to the overall experience. read more

Had to stop here once we heard the news of the top gun house in Oceanside! There's parking about a block away...paid but not too bad. High pie wasn't too busy except for people taking pictures out front. We had to tour around before getting our orders in. Very cool nostalgia from Top Gun for sure...feels like you are part of the movie. The high pies are a small fruit pie...love the taste when they are warmed up especially with some ice cream. Got to admit, when I go to the beach, I'm not looking for Pie. If I am, usually a slice of Pizza Pie. I'm thinking Shaved Ice, Burritos, and Fast Burgers, Ice Cream and Dogs. Had "high" hopes today when I went to High Pies, but I was highly disappointed. Ordered a cherry 3 pack for me and an apple 3 pack for hubby. Pies were undercooked, mushy and tasted like flour. There was no crispiness or flakiness. They did offer to re-do my order, but I opted out as I was irritated that they didn't mind giving me the subpar pies to begin with. On Saturday my husband and I visited the High-Pie house located in Oceanside directly across from the Oceanside Pier. After seeing the Top Gun themed High-pie house on the News we decided to check it out. It was great to see someone purchased the house and restored it with a Top Gun theme. After all Oceanside and San Diego is a big Military community and San Diego is the home of the Top Gun training program. Top Gun made this historic house a famous site to visit. Well, the High-Pie fell short of our expectations. First, we arrived at the pie house around 3:00 pm (they are open 12 - 8 Wed to Sun) and they were already sold out of pies. The employee hosting the entry door told us if we wanted pies we had to wait in line outside until more were available. It took about 30 minutes. We did wait, we were not in a rush and that is one reason we were there. Once the pies arrived, they are not prepared on site, but pre-made and delivered to the kitchen were they are fried with a donut machine and dusted with sugar. We were invited in one couple or group at a time so not to overcrowd the inside space as it is very small. Their menu is small, only 3 pie choices, apple, cherry or a-la-mode with homemade vanilla ice cream. 4 choices of dipping sauce and 4 types of drinks. You can purchase a single pie or a bundle of 3, 12 or 24. The pies are a thin 3" x 3" pop tart style hand pie filled with cherry or apple and dusted with sugar. The pie filling is ok, nothing to get excited about. They only had cherry with no guarantee apple would be available that day. Not much flavor, would not believe it was cherry other than that is what I ordered. The interior decor in a Victorian farmhouse style. The portion of the house that contributes to the Top Gun theme is Maverick motorcycle parked in front of the house and available for photo opts and a picture wall behind the front door of the house, which you almost miss. There is a few Top Gun t- shirts hanging on a small back wall for sale. The employees wear navy colored overall that resemble flight suits and the boxes for the 3 pie bundle option is a Armed Forces envelope style and color. Overall the decor is confusing for what you would expect when their website and the news promotes this place as the Top Gun themed pie house. On another note the employees are disorganized and unfamiliar on how to handle a dilemma or process orders has they come into the kitchen. One scenario we experienced..we placed an order for 5 hand pies. Two couples who ordered after us, got their order while ours sat on the kitchen counter with 5 confused employees and one yelling at the order station ,"no orders over 3 pies each". Probably because the amount of pies they received was about 4-5 large cookie trays and the line outside was growing. Where you pick up your order you can see directly into the kitchen. The minute we questioned about our order one of the employees grabbed our order from the kitchen counter, which sat there while employees were waiting for direction on how to handle the pie ordering issue. I feel this is a great idea for a pie house, but if you are chosing a theme go with it. Furthermore, this being a second location for an experience chef/restaurantuer opening a cafe/shop in a busy tourist location with resent advertisment and a famous themed house should not have a pie shortage and quality issue. The wait should have been worth it. Hopefully in time it will improve and not fall to the hotel/resort which surrounds it. read more

Everything is here to make this a top tourist "must see". You know, the "I bought a pie in the old Top Gun house" kinda thing. The pies are pricey ($3) for the size of what you get, but it's in the Top Gun house, so hey! I can live with that. We bought 3 pies ($9) and got two sauces ($2 each). The sauce is really expensive for the little packet they give you, but again, Hey! It's the Top Gun house. Today was the second day they were opened so i would expect confusion as they find their footing, but really there wasn't any. They had a girl regulating the amount of people that could enter at any given time. There were two girls taking orders and it was rather see less. Then you move to the back room and wait for your order. It seemed to take a little while to get our order but nothing that was an extreme wait. Overall not taking pricing into consideration I give this place a 5 star overall. What seemed to be lacking was the training given prior to opening. After purchasing 3 pies (not the 3 pie box for the same price) and being charged $4 for two very small packets of (very good) sauces (chocolate and lemon curd) we found out that the sauces were free if you bought the "box". Good training would have had the girl tell me that if i said the word "box" I would have saved $4. Is that a deal breaker? No, i can afford $4. What is somewhat bothersome, especially in these times, is that training seems to lack common sense that would help the consumer. It would have been a nice gesture (granted yes, she doesn't have to tell me) for her to say, "Let me put these in a box for you so your sauces are free!" That small gesture tells me the customers money is important to them and i then rave with 5 stars and tell everyone to go there!! As it is, i did it once. I'm good. I won't recommend it, but i have nothing negative to say about it if I'm ever asked. It will be a simple, "We tried it. It was ok." read more
