This place is so cute!!! If you're a fan of the classic Top Gun movie with Tom Cruise, you will be a fan of this house! The pies are tastey and other desserts are available as well. We had the box of 3 pies for $9. The only flavors available were blueberry, apple, and guava, so we ordered one of each. Unfortunately the ice cream machine was down during our visit, but we enjoyed warm pies all the same. I think the ice cream would have made them better. The employees were very kind and extra helpful. They have a guest book to sign which is a fun little touch for movie fans. The atmosphere, the beach, and movie nostalgia helped move the place to the Top of our list! read more

We had these pies for an event for my company. The overall reactions were very mixed. People either loved them or didn't take more than a bite. I was in the latter, but I also grew up with Hubig's, so maybe I'm spoiled. The presentation is cute. But for me, they were overly sweet and much too soft. Great for tourists visiting Oceanside. The lines really haven't been long and the wait was just a few minutes. The pies were good, but nothing spectacular. If you want a sweet treat after walking the pier it's the perfect spot. Honestly the price and limited options in pies was a little off-putting. So, we are huge top gun fans so we had to go here. And while this is the beach house from the original movie it's changed dramatically. It's been restored back to it's original character from the late 1800s. As an archaeologist, I get it. That makes sense. Just don't lean so hard into the Top Gun thing. It was still pretty cool. We're giving this three stars because the tiny hand pies are *OK*, very messy because they have too much powdered sugar, and are stuffed in a little box that they are hard to get out of. read more

Movie locations 1986 Top Gun. The pies aren't the greatest in the world but the setting at this 1887 Victorian house with a view of the beach is first rate. Asked for Carmel On the side ($2 for a small prefilled packet) but they messed up and gave me chocolate. It is the Hershey's chocolate syrup. This is such a fun spot for dessert! You cannot beat the atmosphere and history. I'm not a huge fan of the coffee options here but we so many in Oceanside mixing and matching is easy! Super cute place to go for photos: they had the motorcycle, signage, and great interior design. It's right along the beach so it's beautiful to be where the coast and people being out and about converge. We parked along the street and paid with coins. Top gun pie!! This store is right by the oceanside pier. Original top gun house was a block away from this location. They relocated and remodeled nicely. I come to oceanside often, so I remember how it looked before. I am glad they kept it and remodeled! This is totally a tourist place. Not the place you wanna eat pie all the time since it's pretty pricy. However there are nice outdoor area to enjoy the ocean view and have a cup of coffee. Pies are nicely served inside the box. I love the presentation of the box. Pie... Apple was good. Other than that everything was too sweet for me. The size is small and I like it, but over priced. It was a line to order pies. Also it took about 20min. to get the pies after ordered. Pies came out nice and hot! Service was good, one guy to take order and a couple people working in the back. I thought it is a long wait to get pies, but enjoying the decor of the shop and taking pictures of outside, it wasn't bad. They have a motorcycle in front of the shop. Picture spot!! We have been coming to Oceanside for 30+ years and have a place next to the original location of the top gun house, We were pleased that the house was preserved and that it turned into a hand pie shop... They were out of several options when we went and there is usually a long line to get in. The house renovation was incredible and it's filled with relics from the original Top Gun Movie which is neat and nostalgic! The wait was extremely long 20+ min for 2 hand pies. The pies are good not great, and resemble a hand pie but sugared like a Binet and have the same light fluffy crust and taste like a Binet. The cherry has a nice tartness that works well with the sweet crust and sugar coating The strawberry rubarb is perfect for those with a sweet tooth.mm They have dips for 2$ which gives you about .50 of a topping like you would use on a once ice cream sundae That said we tried carmel and chocolate both very delicious get it if you love sweets It's a great place to go if you enjoy nostalgia but not if you're a foodie looking for an amazing dessert! read more

Came here with my daughter and her friend - who were excited to get pie. We walked in and there were no employees to be found up front. I went around to the pick up area and could see people in the back. I went back to the front and waited again. Then a man walked in and said they're in the back. I walked back to the pick-up area and could see three employees (females) all standing around talking in the back. So from the start it was not a good welcome. I ordered one apple pie and one ice cream. The order came out and I asked for a second spoon. The female employee walked back behind the shutters to the kitchen and she knocked over the very large and dirty fan that was blowing. It fell on the ground and the chunks of dirt from the fan flew off and almost landed in my food at the pick-up counter. Never once did she apologize or even ask if our food was ok. Never once did she acknowledge to me "sorry, is your food ok?" Please train your employees how to greet and work with guests. Also the apple pie wasn't even warmed up and tasted like it had been sitting for awhile. Go for the photos of the location, but have low expectations for the food and service. read more

Anyone that comes here for more than what it really is: a historical momentum of all sorts (honestly, famously known as the top gun house) -is quiet delusional. Although their iced coffee aka buzz the tower is worth the trip! Along with it's esthetics. I got the three-fer, because why not?! Apple kombucha, water and wait for it... buzz tower! Really cute Top Gun theme house to check out for photo ops! There's even a motorcycle replica out front. The pies are not nearly as bad as everyone described, it's just very small! Two bites and you are done with the "pie"! lol We shared 3 for $9 ( 2 apples and one strawberry) and we all agreed the apples are better. It comes out warm with just enough powdered sugar. There was no line when we went Labor Day weekend Saturday so I think the hype has definitely died down. It's a cute place to check out when you are walking around Oceanside. read more

Many know this as Charlie's house in the movie Top Gun but in reality this is Dr. Henry Graves's 1887 Victorian cottage which is one of the 1st homes in Oceanside. And while the home was painted back to what would have been the 1887 period color, during the renovation, far too many complained and basically demanded the color be redone to how it looked in Top Gun. Current hours are 1-8pm and will be adjusted, per the GM, to 12-8pm. I love that the renovation didnt completely bulldoze everything as the original flooring is till in place. Mavericks motorbike was added out front, which is pretty cool, and the interior walls and decor are really beautiful. I'm not a hand-pie kinda person and had heard this would be an ice cream parlor, but I guess that's where the in-house made mascarpone A la mode would come into play. Not sure if I would pay $5.00 for an A La Mode if it'll be as small as the hand pies when I can get a nice size scoop, for the same price, once Handles moves into town or even Nana & Pop Pop's small business over by the harbor. So ice cream here is out. Lastly, I am curious if these hand pies will be or are truly made and fried in-shop? I can say they weren't all made in-store today though since I was waiting on my order and noticed a gentleman walk over from Mission Pacific Hotel with a baking tray full of the hand-pies to drop off. Either way, the hand pies where good for a quick little bite of a snack to try and my kids enjoyed them which was most important. read more

I had high hopes for this place as a huge fan of Top Gun. I'm exited that they incorporated Charlie's house into the hotel site. I gave three stars due to the memorabilia. Had the Strawberry Rhubarb High Pie. I wasn't exactly impressed and IMO they are rather overpriced. $3 for a maybe 2x2 hand pie???? Needless to say we most likely won't be back. read more
