Every bite tasted like pineapple. We also ordered the waffles, there were thin and dry. To drink we tried their bloody Mary's, they were too thick for my taste. The only reason why I gave this place two stars is the service, our server was great so it helped distract from the food and the ambiance. It's ocean front so it was a nice place to sit. We went to the High/Low for lunch. The we sat outside and had a nice view of the ocean and pier. The seating was comfortable and even though it was a bit windy that day, we didn't feel the wind at all. The service was prompt, friendly, and professional. They have a pretty good wine and beer menu with many options. They also have specialty drinks. My wife loved the Long Island Iced Tea she ordered. I enjoyed the Rotating Pale Ale beer. We ordered the Drive Through burger and Fish & Chips. Both orders came with fries. The burger was huge and really really good. The meat itself was fantastic and clearly made of quality meat. The Fish & Chips were very good with a light breading. The fries came out piping hot and were lightly seasoned. We decided to stop in during one of our walks. We are so glad that we decided to try it after walking by so many times. Everything was delicious and our server was on top of everything. We noticed that all of the staff were super friendly and attentive. Hubby had the shrimp roll and I had the Cobb salad with a side of sweet potato fries. You could tell that the fries were homemade as well as the vinaigrette. We enjoyed sitting out on the patio and they had umbrellas at each table which they opened for us. Love this place! First place we take out of town visitors. Its in a great spot, has great views. Food is good, with a limited menu. Our server Kyla was fantastic! Had great suggestions and was tentative. There was a slight misunderstanding with some of the other wait staff when told about some necessities in the women's restrooms. I understand it is a separate venue from the hotel. However staff should never tell guests to go tell someone else. Jamal handled it like a pro, I explained what happened and he took care of it. Service is atrocious. Waited 15 minutes before my wife found the manager to let him know we needed water. His response, "when your waiter comes by they'll take your drink order". Yes, we know how a restaurant works; the point is we haven't even been acknowledged. Onto the food: Grilled cheese and tomato soup: grilled cheese was fine, soup tastes like salsa Fish and chips: decent fish and chips nothing special Wedge salad: as you'd expect it was good. Hard to mess that up Clam chowder: here we go. They claim this to be the best chowder you've ever tasted. First off this isn't even top 20 and I'm a whore for chowder. In fact, I wouldn't even call this chowder but rather clam broth. You also get a whopping 6 clams. I should have known better when it took the longest of our order because they had to "plate it". At 17 bucks this is an absolute rip off. Now back to the service. After we finished lunch where was our server. Nowhere that's where. Another 25 minutes to get a check.....not from our server. Situated in a prime location, High/Low has amazing views of the ocean and pier. I came with a decently large group early on a weekend morning, and it took quite a while to be seated despite the fact that the restaurant wasn't busy. Although I loved the location and ambiance, I honestly found the food to be quite disappointing. I ordered the Hawaiian fried rice and felt like it was pretty flavorless. There are many items on the menu though, which is good when you're eating with people with dietary restrictions. I'd recommend coming to grab a drink over anything else. read more

I so badly want to rate this place higher, but they just cannot get it right around here. First off, their food is delicious. I've never had a bad meal here. And the view is amazing. But beyond that, the prices are high (remember this is a hotel)...and the mimosas are tiny. Sadly, service is so hit or miss. I've been a handful of times. Today we split a burrito because the hi/lo quesadilla (which we love and is now off the menu) was not available....our server was really the bartender so he only took our order and we never saw him again...I had to go up to the counter to get salsa and napkins...had to ask for water and an extra plate...asked for St. Germaine in my Prosecco and got LESS Prosecco than even a full glass, with the liqueur added in. The ocean view at Hi/Low is beautiful and the food was actually really good, which makes the service issues even more disappointing. When we arrived, all of the servers were standing outside near the host stand. We were told to seat ourselves anywhere and that (someone) would come help us. We did just that... and sat there for 30 minutes with no one acknowledging us. No greeting, no explanation, nothing. Except for "seat yourselves, you'll get helped". We eventually had to go up to the counter to place our own order. To be clear, I understand that slow days happen, and servers talking near the host stand isn't a big deal. (As some of us in the service industry tend to do). We weren't expecting anyone to drop everything and immediately attend to us. We get that sometimes moments are slow. However, if you tell guests someone will come help them. THAT should actually happen. Don't say you're going to assist and then completely ignore the table. After the food came out, once again, no one checked in on us. When it was time to leave, we waited what probably was another 40 minutes just to close our check... and surprise, we had to go up to the counter again because no one came to the table and dealt with it ourselves. What made this even more frustrating was watching other guests who arrived AFTER US get seated, served, and cashed out promptly, especially those dining outside. The restaurant wasn't busy at all, yet the servers were mostly just standing around. The entire operation felt unorganized, with poor communication between staff and guests, and zero awareness of who was being helped. To top it off, leaving a tip felt completely unnecessary... yet I still did, which honestly I shouldn't have considering we essentially served ourselves the entire time. We never even had a designated server, so it's unclear who even received it. This experience felt less like an accident and more like a management issue. The lack of urgency and awareness gave the impression that management either wasn't present or simply doesn't prioritize service, which directly reflects in the servers behavior. Overall, it was an incredibly frustrating and unprofessional experience for a slow day. Great view, good food, but the service seriously needs help. read more

I chose the table with the best view outside. Problem is she forgot to set up my table with utensils. Our waiter was good. He was attentive. He was busy. There were other staff helping him. I asked for a spoon from the staff that served our food and it never came. We had to also ask for utensils. We wanted to try the "best clam chowder". I should learn by now that anyone who toots their own horn is going to wrong. It wasn't my best clam chowder that I've ever had. I will say I've never had chowder with clams in the shell before! It tested more like chioppino to me. There was very little soup! What soup I tasted was runny, not thick. The garlic bread that came with it, although thin, was good. I ordered the famous high pie cup of pie. It wasn't in a cup. I liked the fresh fruit. The little blueberry pies were just OK. I would've liked ice cream instead of whipped cream. Not worth the money paid. Just a note to those staying at Mission Pacific or Seabird, they are a 3rd party restaurant unaffiliated with Hyatt. Mine was a sun and he thought his looked like a male body part LOL. We shared some shishito peppers, the Hawaiian fried rice with homemade spam, and the Cardiff Crack Hash with black pepper Tri-tip. My friend had a chopped salad and the other friend had the fish and chips. We were all proud members of the Clean Plate Club. We stopped by the High-Pie (aka Top Gun House) and stopped in here for lunch. We were lucky enough to score a table in the outdoor patio with an amazing view of the ocean. The menu had a good variety of options for breakfast and lunch. Breakfast is served from 7 am - 3 pm, and lunch is served from 11:30 am - 5 pm. There are also some fun adult beverages available. Our server was very nice but things were slow and he always forgot to bring our items until we had to ask for it. We had to remind him to bring us our green juice and beer, water refills, and our croissant. I asked for it to come out before our meal and he assured me that he just needed to warm it up so it would be out right away. I had to remind him after our meals came that we still needed our croissant! The food itself is really good and beautifully presented. High/low is a wonderful restaurant close enough to the beach so that you can see the water. I have had numerous breakfasts and lunches there and have never been disappointed. Today I was was disappointed because their clam chowder did not measure up. The presentation of clams, carrots, and potatoes is definitely eye-catching, but the oversized potatoes and bits of carrot and bacon overwhelmed the taste of the clam chowder. I want lots of chowder and clams. Maybe it's my peasant taste. My friend again had the tomato soup and grilled cheese sandwich which she loved. The menu offers breakfast until 3PM and the menu offers lunch 11:30 AM - 5PM. It's a pretty typical so-cal menu with a few perks. The best thing on the breakfast menu is the Cardiff Crack bowl. Basically it's a bowl full of steak cubes, potatos, bell peppers, two poached eggs and seasoning. Super yummy and filling. My daughter enjoyed the Ceviche. I got a salmon scramble, which was nothing more than chopped up lox atop some scrambled eggs. Literally. And there was nothing banana pancake about the banana pancake. My friend surmised that maybe it was a plantain pancake; more bitter than sweet. That sounded right. Also, there was nothing banana bready about the banana bread, but I didn't mind it. I liked the chewier texture - like fudgey brownies vs cakey. I wonder if we got gluten free versions of both banana items. What have they got against bananas around here though? We didn't taste much of it. Honestly though, none of the food mishaps bothered me in the least! Vibes over food for me. We had the beautiful scenery, fun outdoor seating, some mimosas, and lovely company. An absolutely delightful breathing space in the middle of the week. I was one giddy SoCal gal!
