Learning more about High Camp Wines during the Pleasant Valley Wine Trail Twilight Tasting made me appreciate Paso Robles even more. Megan and Spencer purchased the winery in 2020 and clearly embraced the kind of adventurous leap that seems to define so many people who eventually find their way to Paso Robles wine country. As someone who also rebuilt and reinvented parts of my life after moving here, I immediately connected with that decision to pursue something more meaningful, creative, and community-centered. There's a shared spirit here that's hard to explain unless you've experienced it yourself. But what really stayed with me was learning more about the Pleasant Valley Wine Trail collective itself -- 14 wineries genuinely supporting one another while also giving back through scholarship and agricultural education efforts benefiting the local community. THAT is what makes Paso different. The people here still feel connected instead of competitive, and the wineries still feel wonderfully authentic. We kicked off our girls weekend at High Camp Winery, and it was the perfect start to our trip! From the moment we arrived, the experience was welcoming and relaxed -- and a huge part of that was thanks to Erin, our server. Erin was absolutely fantastic! She was fun, personable, and made us feel like we were longtime friends. She took her time with us, never rushed, and made sure we were having a great time while learning about the wines. Her energy really set the tone for the rest of our weekend. The wines were delicious, the atmosphere was laid-back and beautiful, and we left with great memories (and a few bottles!). High Camp is the absolute best. The owners are incredibly friendly and the staff is knowledgable and accommodating. Not to mention the wine is excellent without breaking the bank. Visited the downtown Paso tasting room on suggestion of another winery and I'm so glad I did! Despite us arriving just minutes before closing, the host poured us an abbreviated flight. She was very personable and didn't rush us. I loved the art on the bottles and let's be honest, that matters. The tasting room also had lots of cuteness and was the perfect size for letting my toddler loose (well-supervised, of course). Left with three bottles, olive oil and two packages of Etta pasta. I had occasion to visit this winery and loved talking with a lady winemaker and doing barrel tastings of some amazing wines (though the Petit Syrah was my fave and am really hoping they bottle this as a single varietal vs. blend--it was SO good)! As for wines already bottled, although they had some nice Pinots, I really loved the Rose' and had to take a few bottles home. All of the staff pouring were super friendly. It is DEFINITELY worth driving down the road a few more minutes from neighbor Villa San Juliette to try out this amazing winery. It is dog friendly with doggy hosts 'Penelope and Pluto,' a pair of very sweet pups!! The tasting room even had a few treats you could buy to reward your favorite canine friend. The grounds were both beautiful and peaceful...lots of outdoor seating options, including quite a few fire pits with surrounding seating. This family owned & operated winery sits along the Pleasant Valley Wine Trail, and is a must stop for the offerings and the ambiance. Megan and Spencer have created an ideal Paso wine-tasting experience for the visitors to their tasting room. High Camp offers wines from some of the oldest vines in the Paso Robles wine district. The reds are well balanced and their whites are crisp and refreshing. I especially like that the reds are not too tannin rich, "chalky". The winery offers a nice outdoor tasting area that is ideal for you to grab sandwiches or snacks to bring with you during your visit. I am not a huge wine person... with that said.. we went to an event at High Camp Wines and had the best time!! And!! Get this.. their wine was delicious! The Venue: The venue was very easy to find and they have clear signage at the end of the driveway as well!! No issues at all arriving. There is plenty of seating, shaded areas and even room for caterers if there was an event. This particular day they had "Sugar Lips Donuts" from SLO parked nearby the wine-tasting area, to provide snacks for everyone. You're able to wander, enjoy the beautiful vines and all of the breathtaking views this area has to offer! The wine: as stated before, I am not a huge wine person. I do have a sweet tooth and mostly prefer champagnes and sparkling wines. With that said.. the Albarino!!!!! I have been thinking about that Albarino and I will return to buy a few bottles! Their Rosé was also very smooth and delicious! They also offer a wine club subscription that you can sign up on there or online!! Have I mentioned the Albarino?! Lol they also have the standards like Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. They also have tasting tours to their cellar room, in which they let you try some of their finest wines! Definitely recommend! The Owners: This winery is under new ownership, but they are really working hard to build it up! While they do have their own in-house wines, they are also currently bringing in other wines from other parts of the Central Coast! The added details!! -Dogs allowed. In fact they have 2 adorable furry children running around and grounds. -They have a designated parking lot, if a decent size! Out wine tasting with some friends and found this hidden gem. I prefer small boutique wineries to the big flashy ones and this winery checked all the boxes. Amazing wines, friendly knowledgable staff and a beautiful location. We didn't feel rushed and loved the information provided about each wine and the beautiful wine labels. We're lucky on the Central Coast to have so many different wine regions, each distinct and a lot of them are still family run. We had the opportunity to taste at High Camp last weekend as part of an event, and their wines did not disappoint, especially their cellar tasting. The new owners were very engaging and I appreciated their passion for the winemaking process. The main flight was pleasing and showed a lot of potential (perhaps a little more time in the bottle). Their staff was wonderful. I don't usually care much for ambiance of a winery but High Camp is gorgeous with views galore. Their price point was reasonable. I love stopping by Ranchita Canyon whenever I'm in the Paso Robles area. It's a laidback, dog friendly place, with excellent wines and olive oil. I went last Sunday afternoon (4/3/22) for about an hour for a wine tasting. Only one other set of people were there, so it was really chill and relaxing. Had a few friends and a couple dogs with me and it was so nice on the patio. Nice bar area inside for those who'd rather saddle up to a bar for wine, and they also have some merch and a nice and clean restroom. Highly recommend! read more

Sat for long periods of time waiting for pours. Finally had to go in and ask for each pour. Got sick of waiting and decided to check out before we got our full tasting. Employee who had helped us was apologizing as we were checking out. She spoke with the owner aboutour situation asking him to compensate us. Owner instead responded with anger AT US and demanded full payment for our tastings even though we had said nothing to complain. This is the sort of wine tasting experience you look for when you go on a wine tasting expedition. Unless you happen to love tasting wines of average quality in an upscale, brand new building that looks like a castle or a Tuscan villa. We don't. We like unassuming wineries like this one where the owner is the vintner, the farmer, and the person doing the pours. And has been doing this for the last 30-40 years. Your wine tasting experience will last a long time as Bill carefully explains the details and takes care of everyone on his own. But what a journey! We were lucky enough to do a tasting on a Friday not a Saturday so we didn't have to experience the crowds. Everybody who we did see drop by that day were personally known by the owner including a couple that were up from San Diego who were wine makers themselves and inquiring about a shipment of wine. If wine makers are making a habit of ordering wine from here than I would say the wines are pretty darn good. We liked them but I can't tell a $100 bottle from a $10 bottle of wine myself. Almost all of the wines they have are reds. So if you only like whites, don't bother. Actually, do bother because even if you only like whites you'll still have fun. Do try the excellent olive oil, which Bill also makes from trees growing on his property. read more

The old owners of this winery were fabulous! They treated their visitors and new customers like family. The new owners have no clue how to run a wine club or treat their wine club members when they (the winery) have made a major mistake. We were members of Ranchita Canyon from the time they first opened their doors way back. They were always gracious and knew what they were doing. The new owners who took over earlier this don't have a clue. They would rather just cancel your wine club membership rather than train their employees to do their jobs correctly! read more

We had a fantastic afternoon with Bill at Ranchita Canyon this past weekend. We had a party of 8 which he accommodated in the back room (we made a reservation via Lush Limo) and shared a generous list of his truly delicious wines. Whites and reds alike, our group enjoyed the variety and the quality. Bill was generous with his time and shared newly harvested grapes and others in various stages of fermentation, talking us through his process and wine making preferences. We accidentally stumbled upon this intimate small winery on Christmas Eve. We were so happy that a winery was opened that day. The view on the way to Ranchita Canyon Vineyard is amazingly beautiful. Bill was super friendly in chatting up with me and my husband and we learned so much about wines that day. It was our first time visiting a winery and I think all our other experiences will have to measure up to this! The tasting was absolutely delicious and the prices really reasonable. We ended up buying three bottles of red wines that day. Wished we could have stayed longer! Will definitely make an effort to visit here again when we drive up in the future! read more
