Delicious food! Love the ribs! Great mac n cheese and baked beans. Had the steak sandwich the next time again not disappointed rundown but the taste of the food is phenomenal the prices are great you have to try read more

I really wanted to like this place. The chicken doesn't taste good to me, sort of like rotting meat. Maybe it's because of the hickory?

Love this place! I always get the gyro with 2 sides (that are included in the price)....Huge plate of food for about $10.00. Homemade to top it off! Their chicken is the bomb also! Warm and cozy atmosphere! Check it out! read more

Not a fan. The chicken was dry, slightly over seasoned. The macaroni seemed like it was made from kraft. The apple crunch tasted ok but didn't look appealing and the corn muffin was dry..wouldn't go back read more

we got here often for lunch. We try to make it on Monday when the half chicken is on special, but if we can't I usually get a 1/4 chicken. The staff always remembers us and can usually guess what our normal order is. I guess that is a sign that maybe we come too often. Oh well, we enjoy it. I like the mac n cheese and apple crunch. read more

I ordered the chicken and ribs combo at 6 pm . Ribs dried out. Was like jerky. Chicken also dried out. Will not order again. Best part of the order was the muffin and the swift Grubhub delivery. read more

Make sure you get the Italian green beans. I cannot hope to describe them because "The Tao which can be spoken is not the eternal Tao." The chicken itself is just about perfect. Wow. This place is to Boston Market as El Famous is to Taco Bell, and less expensive. A man I know who has lived here all his life asked his wife to take him here for his 75th birthday. He told me it was his favorite place to eat ever. Maybe I wouldn't go that far, but close. I feel a little sad that the woman who took care of me seemed so unhappy. read more

A friend brought us here once, and I am now a huge fan of Hickory Roasters! Here's why: 1) Price: Single dollar sign! Most anything you get will cost around or under $10, which is really a good deal since it fills me up quite nicely (a 250 pound 25 yr old man). When you are on a budget and hungry, most of the options that fit your budget won't leave you feeling too great (Taco Bell, Culvers, Steak & Shake, etc.) For the price range, Hickory Roasters gives you a meal that tastes like it's homemade, and doesn't leave you bankrupt. But before I go on to the food itself, something has to be said about the stars. 4 stars for a $10 plate of food cannot be compared to 4 or 5 stars to a $50 plate of food. They are different categories altogether. I really enjoy a fancy meal, don't get me wrong, but Hickory Roasters is a local homestyle restaurant, full stop. You get what you pay for, and in my opinion, it is a great value. 2) Food: I can only speak to the namesake dish (Hickory Roasted chicken) and a few sides, but I have eaten here roughly 10-12 times in the past couple of years and it is fairly consistent. There are times when the chicken is a little dry, but that's only because the food is cooked by real people and not pre-cooked / frozen or made by some high-tech machine that fast food conglomerates use. The hickory smoke is apparent in the chicken, and really gives some flair to the overall home-cooked feel. The seasoning on the chicken skin has the perfect balance of salt and spice. The corn muffin is sweet and soft, and there are a variety of sides worth trying (papas/potatoes a la diabla, baked beans, Spanish rice, apple crisp, to name a few). My favorite thing to get is Spanish rice and apple crisp. Both of these sides could easily be made at home, but that's the beauty of it! Warm apple crisp has bits of granola mixed in, and is sweet, but not overpowering, which makes it the ideal dessert dish. 3) Atmosphere: I've eaten in at Hickory Roasters before, and I've never had a bad experience. Seeing all the hickory wood stacked outside and beside the rotisserie is a bonus, as is the smell of the smoke from the roasting chickens. It's not spotless, but it's fairly clean on the inside. 4) Service: Hickory Roasters falls in the genre of cafeteria / Chipotle / Boston Market food service. The service is always good, fast, and friendly. No problems here. read more

I have been wanting to try this place for a while and finally gave in. Went around 4pm. I got the half chicken and ribs with 2 sides meal. The chicken was good, really moist and meaty. I wouldn't recommend the ribs, they were a little dry and little meat. Most likely they were sitting around all day. For the 2 sides I got mashed potatoes, which were good and mac and cheese... not so good/flavorless. For all that it was about $19. Next time I will just stick with the chicken. read more

Tried this place for lunch, had the half chicken with two sides and a drink for ten dollars. Little expensive for lunch but not really a fast food restaurant so the price reflects that. The chicken was good/tasty the sides were ok, average. Free refill on drink, so that was a little plus. The place was crowded, at times during lunch almost out the door, so people like what they are getting and they have a following. Not expecting five star dinning, but it is a good average meal. read more

My fiancé brought home a whole roasted chicken and it was SO good!! Juicy and perfectly seasoned. I can't wait to have it again and try some sides. read more

Did I go to the right place? Seriously, with all the positive reviews I couldn't have imagined it would be SO BAD! The pot roast had a few rave reviews so I tried it. It was tender, but so salty and lukewarm that it was barely edible. I was going to also have some of my husbands chicken pita, but the pita was so soggy that I opted to avoid it. He said it wasn't very good anyway. All of our hot side dishes were cold, but I can't imagine they'd be much better at a higher temp. Overall, bad food at not so great prices. read more

Very tasty hickory chicken! Huge sides. One of the best Cole slaw this side of the Rio Grande! Garlic potatoes were good as well. Only thing, not crazy about the corn bread muffin. Good value for the money! I will be back next time I'm in the area. read more

I have driven by so many times and now I regret not trying them out sooner. The roasted chicken was seasoned to perfection. All the sides were equally tasty. This will be one of my regular stops for dinner. read more

Nice change from fast food. Appears to be family owned. There's a wide selection. And while I don't love everything they offer taste-wise, everything has always been fresh and appropriately warm or cold. It's always a generous portion too. read more

I have been meaning to drop by this place and finally I did. The chicken and sides are excellent. Chicken had good hickory taste and is one of my favorite places to get family style dinner. read more

I went to grab take out from this place and nothing was good. I should have realized it when I walked in and the place was not spic and span. I asked about their "famous" pot roast. The woman took a large roasting pan out of an oven warmer. She tried to have me taste it but the meat looked like it had the color of a rainbow on it. A tell tale sign of when meat is no longer good. I politely said no thanks. I should have left at that point. I ordered a chicken and Mac and cheese. When I brought it home and had my husband and kids try it they couldn't eat it. The Mac and cheese had sugar in it - yes sugar. The chicken tasted awful. I actually threw everything away. My husband and kids are not picky eaters so this was a shock to me when they decided not to eat dinner because it was so bad. read more

Unassuming with a side of coziness, this place felt like home and the staff felt like an extended family. Very peaceful and calm, the restaurant recreates the atmosphere one may find at their home with the addition of all the foods we have all come to love and enjoy as staples of our culture and Society. A+ read more

Kind of in a hidden location. I came across Hickory Roasters by accident. Good food. Reasonably priced. Great menu. A step above the fast food chains. read more

The food is ok but the woman who runs the place makes every encounter unbearable. She needs to work on her customer service.

I occasionally go here on my lunch breaks. It doesn't look like much from the outside but the food is always amazing! There always seems to be the same woman working here when I go. I don't know if she's one of the owners but she's always friendly and accommodating. I'd say try the bbq chicken sandwich with a side of cole slaw. Or if they are making chicken burritos on the day you go don't question it... just order it! They have a large amount of side options for those that are sick of french fries. The portions are good for the price and you can usually get in and out of there quickly if you're in a time crunch. If you're looking for good home cooked food look no further! read more

Great food, best chicken I have ever had. Make sure you try the apples. The owners and staff couldn't be nicer, they always remember me, even if I haven't been there in a it. read more

We have been taking our kids here since they were three years old and it is a family favorite. We are frequent diners here. Fantastic home style cooking. Reasonable prices and friendly staff. The ribs and the chicken fall off the bone. The BBQ sauce is delicious and plentiful. We would highly recommend you try this place. read more

Been here a few times, its right near my office. Its good food at a great price. Yes, there are better bbq places in the area, but for the cost, amount of food and the quality of food you're not gonna find much better. Staff is friendly. Def a nice place for a quick cheap lunch. read more

Hickory Roasters is one of the rare places that I will never get sick of, even if I get the same thing everytime (half chicken and two sides, double mashys with the best corn muffin ever) my partner and his friend have literally tried the whole menu (favorites include the pot roast and mac n cheese) and they have no complaints one of them eats there almost everyday! The staff is amazing and you have the option of eating in or taking it to go which we normally do. Even with a 20 minute drive the food is hot and delicious. I have never been unsatisfied with their food or service, this place is totally worth the drive for amazing home cooked food! read more

Ate here today the food is pretty darn good the chicken was moist and tender the green beans in a tomato sauce was awesome , price was reasonable will be going back read more

wow! this is the place for bbq!! their homemade chili is out of the world. so much flavor, definitely coming back!!

We recently moved to the area and gave this place a try. The chicken is amazing! Tender and juicy! The sides were really good too! We got green beans, fries and mashed potatoes. I would definitely recommend this place if u want to try a new chicken place read more

Their hickory roasted chicken is just the best ever. The chicken is roasted on a 10 chicken rotisserie with the burning hickory in a vertical rack. Why the rack? So the chicken fat doesn't fall on the flame and burn. This chicken has a great rub on it, and with this style of cooking, the skin is DELICIOUS. The chicken is also tender and delicious. Whenever we are heading down to the boat, we take a roast chicken sailing with us. YUM. read more

Wow, Ling L. must not appreciate good homemade food. All of the side dishes (yes, it's similar to Boston Market) are made from their own recipes, not out of a can. The chicken is fantastic! We go there about once a week for lunch and are never disappointed. The only time we might be disappointed is if they are out of something we were looking forward to, but that happens when so many people are looking for the same good stuff! I would have to say that I was surprised to read the previous review, but it sounds like they were looking for something other than the "humble joint" that it is. We "working class folks" appreciate a good meal at a good price. All I have to say is that you have to check this place out for yourself. We love it and have since the first time we walked in. Make sure you try the chicken and check out the specials, the burrito is great too! read more

My friends and I eat here 4-6 times a month. It's like eating a good home cooked meal that you don't have to cook. Everything is solid, but the chicken is the best. They'll put barbecue sauce on it upon your request. You get to pick two wholesome sides with your meal and the chicken includes a corn muffin as well. Meal prices are about $7-$8 which is a great deal. One of the few fast food places that you can eat at and say you've ate healthy. read more

Roasted chicken was nothing special. I think price wise very similar as Boston Market but quality much lower. Totally not recommended.

Not that good! I read all the other reviews but I honestly think it's over rated, good BBQ sauce, chicken was dry but good, it has good flavor...I will give it a second chance just because I believe that maybe since it was late the Chicken we got was from the last batch that survived until the end, but still that cost them my 2 stars, let's see if they can suprise me next time! Oh and please highchairs!!..hint (spoiler) mash potatoes... not fresh. read more

The windows and the entrance door need to have the grease cleaned off. Cute place, nice employees. Only bought the chicken just to taste what the review was raving about. It was alright. No complaints. read more

I love this place. This is one my favorite restaurants. I've ordered for my job parties as well as myself. Great deals and numerous options for sides. read more

At first when I started eating my chicken cheese on a pita I thought it tasted good but then right afterward I started feeling quite ill. I should have let the not do clean place with dual TVs blaring over each other at either end of the restaurant area be a warning before I ordered. Someone should call the food inspector to make sure no one else gets sick. Not surprisingly I will not be back. If I could give negative stars I would. read more

I love this place! The ribs are great, with almost NO fat. I know how most people are scared by fatty ribs. The pulled pork sandwich is terrific. The sides are scrumptions. I would advise getting EXTRA BBQ sauce for the ribs, they are like 25 cents each. My recomendation is to get a full slab of ribs, a side of Italian Pasta and apple crumble. Two extra BBQ sauces and go home and enjoy with your favorite movie or ballgame. The staff is very friendly also! read more

Food was just ok. Not big servings... seemed like it was a couple days old. The women that work there are some of the rudest people I have ever encountered. Won't go back just because of the rude arrogant women read more

Very poor customer service - rude staff actually. Very unclean decor. Food so so but soup good.

Save your money. Food was average at best. The only thing worse was the shitty customer service. They acted as if we were bothering them. Eat somewhere else. Anywhere else. Dumpster dining perhaps! read more
