I had a really great experience here! My friend and I came on a Tuesday during lunch and it was pretty slow. The ambiance is fun and bright, lots of neon colors and really interesting artwork. There were claw machines and games too. We came here because they offer fresh sugar cane drinks, so my friend ordered one of those drinks, while I choose the Hokkaido milk tea with boba. Both drinks were good. But what absolutely blew me away was their Dubai chocolate covered strawberries!!! I hadn't tried this viral sensation yet, and the price was right at this place, so I ordered it ($7!!!!!!) They were incredible and I understand the hype. But the price at Hi5 is unbeatable. Came in this afternoon thinking it was Hi 5 Tea. OPEN sign wasn't lit up but door was unlocked so we continued inside. After taking a few minutes to review the menus we both made our decision and placed our order with the woman behind the counter. While or order was being made we wandered the store to check out all the nest things they had to offer. Games on tables, Claw drop games, a punching bag machine, and a rack full of numerous Ramen options. A few minutes later and our selections were complete. I choose a Slushy made from Strawberry, Banana, and ice for me. It's is quite good, but I wish it had a bit more strawberries since the banana flavor was more prominent and the strawberry almost not there. I got full before I had finished half of the drink. A nice desert following our sandwich from the biz across the way. My son also enjoyed his and commented that it was nice to have some fresh fruit in the mix. Lady explained they were open today for a test run. Needed to get a feel for the volume of business to decide if they would continue to be open on Mondays since this a new business. Although it is not located in a highly trafficked area, you should visit. They have some new innovations that will entice you to stop by. First they have some claw machines that are easier to win. While we are there we played five rounds of the boxing game. We also played a few claw games and won a hello Kitty plushie. Next they have a Ramen station with a good selection of Ramen. You do not need to travel to Tempe to a place where you can pick out Ramen and then you can cook and eat it there. They are open till 10pm. 3rd they have updated their flavors of drinks and storms. Have you ever wanted to try Durian? Most places do not offer this flavor. They have it as a duran storm but it tastes authentic and your tastebuds will be confused if you have never had it. Some might think it tastes like a mix of fruit and garlic, so be warned all who have heard about it but are not used to it's unique taste. They have some other great flavors. I'm honestly so surprised no one has mentioned how sweet the drinks here are! I have a bit of a sweet tooth and will go anywhere between 50% to 100% sugar -- but I asked for low sugar here and still added a whole cup of water to my tea to make it more drinkable. I had ordered the kumquat coconut tea, which came with rainbow jelly and pieces of coconut for a nice texture. But the sweetness was hard to get past. My friend had the same experience with the milk tea at 50% sweet, but water would've just watered the drink down, so that was pretty unfixable. Stopped by this place with my family as we heard they have some claw machines that my kids missed playing with when we visited Japan. The amount of machines they had and plushies are pretty large and since they had a deal on the Friday for some bonus tokens we leveraged that so my kids could try a bunch of the machines. I think the claws themselves are pretty good and not as weak as some of places. You know how i can tell my son likes his drinks? They are gone within mere minutes. We have gone to our fair share of boba spots since he was 2-3 years old(now 5). He knows even what direction to go to get them. And will quickly tell you that you are going the wrong way. Every Friday has become our new boba after school treat. To be honest I actually meant to go to a coffee shop but I turned into the Hi 5 plaza by mistake and figured it was kismet that led me to this locale (That and a notoriously bad sense of direction) so why not have bubble tea instead of coffee today? After browsing the menu I went with the oolong milk tea. Currently the 16 oz size is 4.95 and the 24 oz is 5.25 and it includes boba. Not a bad deal then. Too bad they didn't have any boba ready when I was here! That's always a major annoyance of mine. If you say you are going to be open at a certain time, your main ingredient for your items should already be made! Anyways the person at the counter offered to substitute with crystal boba instead which was fine. The drinks come in a sturdy, narrow looking cup with heat sealed lids. I enjoyed my oolong milk tea. It was refreshing, creamy, with just the right amount of sweetness. The crystal boba was good, but I'd love to try the traditional boba next time assuming it's ready. I spent $5.75 on 24oz. of Black Dragon Milk Tea, $5.75 on a 24 oz. of Hi 5 Coffee & Pudding, $14.95 on Hi 5 Fried Rice, $11.95 on Chicken Pad Thai, and $5.95 on Vietnamese Fire Corn. Everything tasted great. The Vietnamese Fire Corn wasn't what I expected though. I was thinking of a corn cheese situation and what I got a seafoody corn mix. This place was great! I'm usually skeptical of boba places that also sell food, since I worry that the quality of the food might be lesser because they focus more on drinks, or vice versa. I'm happy to say that it didn't seem like the case here - both the food and drinks were so tasty!! I really want to know what their black tea blend is here because it was SO good. My favorite was the coconut milk tea - not sure how to describe the flavor, but it wasn't too sweet and had subtle notes of caramel or toffee? (I could use some help with my tasting vocabulary lol.) The taro coconut milk tea also tasted great - it also wasn't too sweet, and the taro favor came through and tied well with the subtle hint of coconut. Unfortunately, there was no more boba (but understandable because we were there shortly before closing). Food (4/5): We ordered the Pad Thai and Popcorn Chicken. The pad thai was a HUGE portion, definitely fit for sharing with another person! It tasted a little different from pad thai dishes I've had in CA, but nonetheless, it had a sweet and tangy tamarind flavor that I liked. The dish felt very much like comfort food for me. The popcorn chicken had tasty seasoning and was fried to a perfectly crispy texture. My only wish was that they used bigger pieces of chicken. We came here twice during soft opening week. Decor is very cute and welcoming. Staff was nice but a little unorganized. But given it was opening week, I could understand. Food was fast but drinks took a long time. They also didn't have everything on the menu. The first time we ordered a black boba tea, dragonfruit storm, and popcorn chicken. The black boba tea was good but it was definitely not worth it for the price. There was too much ice and after just a few sips it was gone. The dragonfruit storm was delicious and creamy but because it is pretty sweet, a large was too much for me to finish. The popcorn chicken was very dry and flavorless but the dipping sauce made it better. Second time around we ordered hi5 coffee with pudding, brown sugar milk tea, pad Thai, and popcorn chicken again. The coffee was very good and the pudding made it extra special. The brown sugar tea was a little sweet at the beginning but got better as the ice melted. The pad Thai was too sweet for my liking but my husband enjoyed it. The popcorn chicken this time around was a little different.
