I was excited to go to HeyTea after hearing about it for a long time! Overall, it lived up to the hype. I had the cloud crisp grape, which had a very rich grape flavor paired with jasmine tea. It also includes fresh cut grapes as a topping, which made it even more refreshing. My guy ordered the large grape boom, less sweet. After 25 min wait the drinks they were shoved at him was the regular size mango grapefruit boom and regular cloud yum berry boom. We walked outside to find the wrong drinks but decided to just keep going because the wait was ridiculous and the organization in the store was just non existent. I heard about the insane wait times and long lines so naturally I wanted to wait for things to slow down before trying Heytea. Ended up coming here 15 mins before they closed on a Wednesday and while there were still a ton of people waiting for their drinks, there were practically no lines. The storefront is shaped awkwardly and difficult to tell where the lines begin, so you just shuffle back and forth with other customers. I ordered the mango grapefruit boom and coconut mango boom, both with half sugar and light ice and my total was around $17. They didn't ask what size I wanted, so I think it defaulted to the regular size. In total, it only took about 10 mins to order and receive my drinks. Both were delicious and tasted super fresh, the mango flavor was prominent and I especially liked the grapefruit addition. I'm also glad I got 50% sweetness. I love, love, love fresh mango and you get tons of fresh mango in this drink with coconut. And there was sago, which had tasty pops of coconut flavor. I would easily get this again and again, which is likely going to be the case since it's located at The Bravern, which is so close to my office. Dangerous! In addition to fresh fruit drinks, they have several different kinds of teas, and the cheese foam is what to try here as Heytea is one of the first spots to ever create the cheese foam. HeyTea is located at the Bravern, right across from LeTao. Went on day 3 of their grand opening with some friends and wow was there a long line. Waiting in line for a little over an hour just to get to the front. Not sure if it's because of the BOGO deal they had for their grand opening but I normally would not wait this long for bubble tea, but we had a friend working there so we made an effort to stop by. Inside the store was pretty cute. There are no sitting area so you have to order and then leave. But the Bravern area does have some benches in the courtyard so you can enjoy it there. Pretty pricey (~$9) but they do use real fruit in their drinks so it makes this place a "stop by every now and then" unless you just love it so much. Drink was pretty good. Got their strawberry bloom, which had real strawberry and some sort of jello in the bottom with a frozen smoothie thing on stop. They did ran out of Mango and yumberry when i visited. Not 100% sure what Yumberry is but manager said it was some fruit found in southern china. Parking can be found underneath the Bravern for free if you buy something in the shops. Will report that HeyTea does validate your parking ticket so bring that with you. To go with this somewhat pretentious aesthetic, the interior is minimalist, with just a small space for 20+ people cram inside to get out of the cold while waiting for their drinks. There is no relaxation here. The menu is similarly simplistic - just order a drink and go! It's not until you think about a typical boba shop menu when you realize that this methodology just doesn't work. Sugar level, ice level adjustments? Not displayed on the menu. Size and topping options? Not displayed. Heck, for most of the items, you honestly have no idea what you're going to get when you order. Brown Sugar Bobo? Supreme Brown Sugar Bobo? Bobo Pop? What are the differences? I certainly didn't know, and the cashier, who was also busy making and packaging drinks, couldn't be arsed to answer any questions given how busy he was. Bobo Milk Tea, Minimal Sugar (30%), Less Ice ($6.99) - Heytea goes so heavily on the milk that all I could taste was milk with caramelized sugar. Does this milk tea actually have any tea in it? No idea. They could have named it a sugar fresh milk and I probably wouldn't be able to tell the difference. One huge knock against them is that they only offer whole milk for their drinks and have no alternatives and no lactose-free milk. Considering that this chain comes from mainland China and ~90% of Chinese people suffer from lactose intolerance, this is pretty suspect. Then again, this could also be due to their horrendous menu. The boba served at Heytea is better than the drink. The pearls are on the smaller side - not as small as mini boba, but noticeably smaller than most. The boba is soaked in a heavy syrup solution and becomes very sticky, with a good portion of the exterior easily sliding off. The pearls are somewhat on the softer side, but I don't think they are overcooked or old since they still exhibit a good amount chew, just less than a more typically sized boba would. Milk Tea Rating: 3/5 Boba Rating: 4/5 I rate places based on how much I enjoyed the food/drinks and do not usually account for my actual experience with the shop. So while I've rated Heytea a 4/5 (actually a 3.5 that rounds to a 4), that's not representative of my thoughts of this boba shop in general. Heytea opened up over the summer where YiFang Tea originally was at The Bravern in Downtown Bellevue. I had to look it up, but Heytea is apparently a popular Chinese tea chain with over 4000 stores around the world. They pride themselves in using high quality ingredients such as real organic milk and tea and are known for their cheese tea and new-style tea. My friend and I visited at around 7:00pm on a Tuesday evening. While other reviews have said that the line is usually out the door, there was only a short line when we arrived. My friend and I both ordered the COCONUT MANGO BOOM (+$7.70 including tax) as we wanted something that was less caffeinated in the evening. I got mine with 50% sweetness and light ice, but my friend got 100% sweetness. According to the bobarista, the most popular drinks are the JASMINE GREEN CHEESE TEA and the CHEESE GRAPE BOOM, which we'll have to try a different time. The COCONUT MANGO BOOM was basically a thick mango slushy layered with coconut milk. In fact, they have a poster that shows a diagram of exactly what's in it: freshly prepared mango puree, aqua green Jasmine tea (slushie), coconut milk, clear jelly, and sago (mini tapioca pearls). I've had a similar slushy drinks at CoCo Fresh Tea & Juice, and they taste awfully similar to each other. I will note though that the COCONUT MANGO BOOM had real pieces/chunks of mango in it whereas I'm pretty sure Coco's version just uses mango puree. My friend and I were trying to figure out if we were supposed to stir it or drink it in layers, and decided that it tasted better stirred. It also tasted better after the ice melted some. I liked the sago, but wasn't a big fan of the clear jelly which was just unflavored gelatin. While the drink was good, it wasn't outstanding and not something worth going out of my way for. In terms of service, there's honestly not too much human customer service involved, since you order at the kiosk. They give you a receipt and you can track your order status on the screen. They then call out your receipt and check to make sure the numbers match. As far as atmosphere, they have no indoor seating, which I think is disappointing, given the rainy Seattle weather. Besides the small standing bar they have indoors, they expect their customers to take their drinks to go or to drink it outside in the open-aired mall (which is really only logical in the spring/summer). Even though their space is small, they should provide a place for people to mingle and enjoy their drinks. In sum, the drink was alright, but with so many other competing bubble tea places in the area, I can't say that this would be my bubble tea spot of choice. I'd personally prefer CoCo or Chi Cha San Chen, but may come here again just for a different flavor. The first time I had HeyTea was at a mall in Hong Kong. I loved it so much that I came back again and again the following days. One time I almost missed my flight in Shenzhen trying to get my HeyTea fix in the airport. Back in 2017/18, you can literally pay people to stand in line and order you some HeyTea in Beijing. So when the line wrapped a few blocks in downtown Bellevue, it was not surprising at all. We've all been waiting for this moment. I highly recommend ordering ahead with the mobile app. Ordering directly during busy times can result in 45 min wait easily. The store front is tiny with no seating areas. They validate parking though, which is helpful. Now... the drinks. I think if you level set your expectations, this can still be a really enjoyable experience. If you've had the drinks in Asia, you might be disappointed by your typical orders. I get it from both sides. It's hard to source ingredients in the states and have a super standardized recipe globally. For example, Creamy Cheese Grape in Asia typically uses Kyoho grapes, which is quite different from the standard grapes in America. So ordering Creamy cheese grape and expecting it to taste the same as HeyTea in Asia can easily lead to disappointment. Same goes with any strawberry drinks--American strawberries simply don't taste the same, so the drinks won't taste the same either. I guess comparison is the thief of joy. The only drink I like is the Coconut Mango Boom. The customer experience needs improvement, especially when it comes to coupons, promos, and loyalty points. I had a birthday code expiring the next day, but they shut down online ordering because they were busy, which I understand. I went in store to use it and was told it's online only even though they were the ones who closed online ordering. If they block the only way to redeem a coupon or promo, they should honor it in store. This made the promo essentially useless, which is extremely disappointing. Also, when I order in store, they never ask if I have an existing account or app, so it doesn't seem like those purchases count toward earning points. Other bubble tea places are able to accommodate both in store promo use and loyalty tracking, so this is definitely an area where they can do better. They don't really do a good job of calling out your order either. They just expect you to come and ask for it. Asked for a recommendation and ordered the cream strawberry mulberry boom. The drink itself was okay, but this was $10 and it had no toppings inside. Definitely not worth it. There was also no size option? At least I didn't have that option. I will not be back unless something new on their menu catches my eye. I would much rather spend my money elsewhere. read more
