I had a botched electrical job in my attic for a newly added 1/2 bath by another contractor that needed fixed plus some new 3 prong grounded outlets needing installed and a full home inspection in the attic, basement, and main living area. The owner, Meiggs Hewlett, answered the phone right away and scheduled a visit with me for a few days later. They were on time, provided a fair quote, even throwing in a few free extras since I had so much work to do, then showed up to complete the work the following Saturday so they could accomodate my schedule. Meiggs showed up with Brian and one other electrician and they had all of my work completed in a thorough and professional manner including cleanup within 5 hrs. Replaced my circuit panel and added one dedicated circuit. Meigs took care of the permits, city inspection & PG&E appointments in the same afternoon. He even called back to take $40 off due to the city lowering the permit fee. Bryan and Alex were the installers. They were friendly and professional. Bryan was accommodating on last-minute changes, and they worked through complications (he made a few runs for parts). They worked until 6'ish to ensure I have power back in the house. The next morning, the city inspector was unexpectedly early. Both Bryan and Alex rushed to my house after they dropped off their kids. They took care of the minor issues pointed out by the inspector. Sergio did a fine job patching the stucco around the panel. The only work I have to do is to paint the stucco (which Meigs mentioned upfront). If you want the cheapest, look elsewhere. Their fees are higher, but very reasonable given the quality of work. If you want the job done right, up to code, with minimal effort on your part, go with Hewlett. read more

Meigs and Brian at the best! I had them install a bunch of lights, ceiling fixtures, can lights and even run a dedicated circuit in the kitchen. They added dimmers, ran cable wires to bedrooms and replaced outlets. I don't think there is anything they can't do fabulously as electricians. So here is what happened: I started giving electricians a call as all my power went out in one room. In parallel though I was trying to do some root cause analysis myself and accidentally got the electricity back up and running. Right when that happened I just so happened to have Mr Hewlett on the phone. He said he was booked until August 7th as I was explaining to him the bizarre nature of what had happened. He asked me if I was handy and I gave him an Engineer's yes and he explained exactly what he would do to fix the issue. I'll be trying that tonight. That's some integrity for you. I cannot say enough good things about this crew. They completed a panel upgrade on my home as well as some other electrical work and repairs. The scope of work ended up being more difficult than originally expected, but they stuck to their original bid price. Bryan and his crew made sure we had power overnight so that we would be comfortable throughout the upgrade. Also, my little pet peeve thing, all the boxes and switch plates were installed level and squared to the wall so they would not look off. And, all the screw heads pointed in the same direction. Couldn't be any happier with the consultation we had with Meigs at Hewlett. Hubs and I don't know much about how electrical works and we were mistakenly under the impression that a couple of bad switches meant we were on track for a whole house electrical redo. Meigs assessed our issues, gave sound (and educational) advice on what the problem really was ... and advised how to address without needing to pull out all of the aluminum. Meigs is so booked that he can't take our job till August however he recommended a competitor (Voltz) to do the work. Hewlett Electric has now completed three very difficult jobs for me. Adding protected circuits for my home business and computer equipment, rewiring existing and extending existing circuits for our CAT 5, telephone, and cable TV systems, and more recently doing all the new wiring for a new HDTV, and laying the ground work for a completely wireless sound system. They have also come out and evaluated several other jobs and pointed out some of the limitations of the site logistics, which saved me hundreds of dollars. They have always been on time, come completely prepared, finished at virtually exactly when they said they would and their cost of work and materials is more than fair. The quality of the work, and the professionalism of the team is no less than outstanding and my small business now considers them to be part of our team that we cannot do without. read more

Hewlett Electric absolutely deserves five stars. I had concerns about my house, built in the early 60s, having some old wires that could cause fire hazards. Meigs thoroughly and selflessly explained to me why I should not be so worried. He told me the only thing I need to watch for is overusage of our space heaters, which are common culprits of house fires. He spent about 15 min with me on the phone giving excellent advise, knowing that he was not even making any money off me. That is what I call honesty and integrity. Hewlett Electric was awesome to work with! Kurt came out to our rental house which had a really weird electrical set up, and handled it all like a pro. Some of our light switches were upside down, some didn't work and our exterior lights were wired really poorly. Kurt handled it all like a champ, for a really reasonable price and in a very reasonable amount of time and was super nice to work with as well. He also showed up to the house right on time, which is amazing in this age of Comcastian "we'll be there sometime between tomorrow at noon and when your firstborn heads off to college." These guys are good but before going to them please ask quotes from other contractors too. Please make sure to do your homework as the difference for the same service from them could be 50% more than some other contractors. If you want to pay the premium (for jobs like electrical panel work etc) then please do so. I got quotes from them and their quote was almost 1500 dollars more than other electrical contractor (who was licensed too and did a great job at my house). So please compare and contrast before using these folks read more

This was the only company who would give me a quote on troubleshooting services, all other companies wanted to charge me anywhere from $100 to $400 just to come out and look at the problem (including a company I used 2 years ago, who rewired my outside box: a $2,000.00 job at the time!) Bryan came out, and troubleshot the problem, gave me a quote on some services and all in all was incredibly professional and competent. As it turned out, the actual issue was with a pool pump, which has to be replaced, but I also need to have my panel for the pool redone. I fully intend to hire them for this work as soon as my tax refund comes in. I would give them 10 stars if I could. I called these guys to have some recessed lighting installed in my living room. Within 24 hours, the lights are in, looking great, and the ceilings and walls are mostly intact. I find Meigs the owner and his crew to be very courteous and professional. They are not the cheapest, mind you, so you might want to shop around on Yelp and get a few quotes (I didn't have the time to). But in the end, you do get what you pay for when it comes to electrical work. What can I say, Meigs, Kurt and Alex from Hewlett Electric are the best! These types of businesses are hard to find now a days. I initially called for a quote to get a chandelier and two bedroom lights installed. The previous owner stated that the two bedroom light switches were wired to the sockets... wrong. After calling for several quotes, had a good feeling about Meigs and Hewlett. Meigs was prompt in coming out for the quote, and very competitive on the quote. Kurt and Alex came out and the installation went great! They even cleaned up after the installation. They let me know that the previous owners had attempted to wire the switches to the sockets, but didn't finish the job. After the installation, we started having issues with running the microwave and having all the lights on at the same time; and started popping the breaker. I called Meigs back out, thinking this was due to the recent installation. Meigs was quick to swing by and investigate this issue with me. Turns out, the previous owner wired the kitchen lights and tagged in the microwave as well. Pure coincidence that popping the breakers happened right after the installation, wasn't even on the same circuit. Kurt came back out and ran a brand new line and breaker, at a good rate. I am so thankful there is a review process offered for businesses being advertised on Yelp, it gives me the opportunity to give warranted praise for electrical services provided to me by Hewlett Electrical. After reading the numerous Yelp reviews I discovered through my own experience the excellent customer service owner Meigs Hewlett offered. I used his service twice and on both occasions Meigs was always available with prompt communications via e-mails and phone calls, answering questions as to our electrical system on our rental home. Before having called Meigs I called 2 other highly rated electrical service repair companies that are listed with Yelp. The 2 other companies asked where our home was located and age of home. We wanted an electrical inspection and unfortunately the other 2 companies made a poor impression with us because having never seen our home in advance they were trying to sell us on the idea of getting a new electrical panel along with other expensive electrical upgrades involved with a new system without even having gone to our home. When I spoke with Meigs for the first time via phone call it was evident he did not believe in making snap judgements without having first an on site fact based electrical inspection to evaluate whether upgrading our electrical system was even necessary. I wanted an electrical inspection because I had to ask our tenants to remove their unauthorized solar power experimental installation from our rental and felt they might have tied into the existing electrical panel and system. Meigs sent out his electrician Kurt, who confirmed all was well with our electrical system and a new electrical panel was not necessary because it was functioning well by electrical regulations / standards. In our situation, Meigs and Kurt both felt why replace something when it doesn't need replacing. Meigs doesn't believe in selling products to customers when it isn't warranted. After the tenants moved from our rental we had the electrician Kurt return once again to provide us a follow-up 2nd inspection. Kurt again was very thorough and confirmed with us and also with Meigs we could rest easy knowing our electrical system had not been damaged by our past tenants. Meigs even mentioned we qualified for a senior discount. I honestly felt we should be paying him more because both he and Kurt spent extra time on our inspection tending to electrical details we requested due to our past tenants. I have come to agree with Hewlett's other customers that Meigs has shown us a great degree of integrity. I live out of the area and therefore could not be on hand to see the inspection but Meigs and Kurt demonstrated honesty by giving their knowledgable and fact based truthful professional opinions. Meigs could have easily made a great deal of money from us as new customers by trying to sell us on an nnecessary expensive upgraded system, but his rare quality of valued business ethics prevented him from doing such a thing. Should I need Hewletts Electrical Services in the future I will with no hesitation call Hewlett Electrical Services. I have recommended him to our new rental property managers and informed other neighbors /homeowners living near our rental property of his exceptional and expert electrical services. read more
