Day 3 Stop 4 Preface: We stopped in on a day when a fund raiser for the school system in Lodi was going on with their silent auctions, live music and entertainment. Heritage Oak Winery is a family run vineyard and winery. The property is aligned with a river I think leaving an all day affair at Heritage a good excursion. OK! No oak tree! BUT they do have a fig tree shaped to give you shade in the day where at least half a dozen picnic tables are situated. You can eat your snacks and taste your wines under this fig tree and if your timing works, you can pick the fig and take them with you OR eat them right there. During our visit, the owner passed and offered little shopping bags if you wanted to pick and take the fig with you. How sweet is that? I have my eye on this place as I understand they are great for activities albeit their own or events that support the community. Oh, Yelpers! don't forget to check in for your 10% discount

Where can you listen to the wine maker play the piano while you taste?... Heritage Oak Winery in Acampo!

We did a night with Harvest Host. This winery spoils you with their spots to camp for a night! Service, wines, the wine maker played the piano while we tasted, and you can walk with a glass of wine down to the river. I highly recommend this place!

You take the little bottles out and pour them in your glass. This is the bucket we mistook as being a dump bucket.

This was the first winery we tried in the Lodi area this Saturday October 16th celebrating our anniversary. We tasted outside and the service was ok. Maybe they thought that this was our first time wine tasting, but we mistakenly believed that the galvanized bucket they provided the wines in was a dump bucket, as other wineries usually bring the dump bucket along with the wines for a flight. When she came back when we were done, she was furious and loudly said we should have told her we needed a dump bucket and stayed mad at us not making contact, but kept having this mad face. Was so not impressed with that type of service. Not going to say who it was, since that person will know by hopefully reading this review and hopefully change her attitude and next time specify to people so there are no issues. Nothing really stood out to us at this one, but we bought a few bottles of what we kind of liked, like their Malbec. Their wines are really earthy and some people like that but we don't because to us they kind of tasted all the same. The young woman who helped us with our purchase was nice and congratulated us. Needless to say though, the experience with the other woman was about to ruin our experience in the Lodi area, but every single winery we hit after this first one was a hit! Everyone was kind and wines were great at those places. Who knows, maybe that lady was having a bad day or something even though she was real friendly at first until the great wine incident of 2021 happened!

Oh my, my friends came to visit from Oregon and Heritage Oak was our 1st stop. Quaint cute winery, beautiful hummingbirds and canaries everywhere so fun. We loved the Chardonnay and the seating area was comfortable, the owners came out and visited, the servers were awesome! Highly recommend

The wines are all pretty good here and it is dog friendly. It's worth stopping in for a taste. We recently became members and went to a fun party with music, food, and dancing. It was a little chilly outside but still fun.

Heritage Oak is a no frills winery with some lovely grounds. There is a $10 tasting fee which is waived with purchase. They have a robust list of well made wine. Wines are reasonable priced and range from some crisp whites, to bold Zinfandel and some blends. There are lot of tables to enjoy lunch outside and you can also enjoy the sight of hummingbirds flying about in the hummingbird garden. A visit to Heritage Oak will bring you some good wine in a very relaxing setting.

Had a wonderful experience. Great staff, delicious white wines, beautiful ambiance, and an exciting trail to walk. Definitely recommend, they have one of the best chardonnays I have tried.

Even my husband, a strictly red wine drinker, fell in love with their wines and atmosphere. We started with a portfolio flight of stills and sparklings, each one was its own unique, yummy, and delicious experience - not a single one disappointed, but our favorite was the Impartation. The color is light, but the flavor is bold and had my husband forgetting that he's "not a rosé guy." The wine experience alone would bring us back, but the icing on the cake is the people and the grounds. Sammy was amazing and instantly made us feel welcome and invited our dog to roam around and explore inside while Sammy poured wine and gave us some history on the winery and winemaker. Then as we thought our visit was wrapping up, Vivian (founder and winemaker) and Peter came in to visit with us, treating us like we were all long-time friends. At that point we grabbed a glass of wine and were taken on a tour of the grounds where we were invited to take a peek in the beautiful and cozy cottage they rent out for overnight stays. From there we walked down to the river and the deck overlooking the water, which is also available for reservations if you want to relax and enjoy the wine with nature and a couple friends. When we drove up to their site, I wasn't really sure where it was located as the existing buildings looked like old industrial buildings, not your standard winery and tasting room. My partner and I guessed it had been a granary--it was built in 1868 right next to the raIlroad tracks, and was later converted into a winery in the early 1900s. Back then that initial winery became famous for their Port, and also made vinegar and brandy. We sat at the tables outside. I asked the server if anyone was living in the tall granary tower because we had noticed that the windows looked like they were fitted with stained glass. She answered with a chuckle, that only ghosts live there. Dancing Coyote has an interesting history. It is family run, and they have been farming the Delta region for five generations. They grow and harvest the grapes. They also do the crushing, aging and handcrafting the final product. The winemaker uses natural wild yeast that derives from the surfaces of the grapes to actually ferment the products on the flight that we tasted - they were really good and yummy on their own natural merits with a bright finish. Of course, I had to run around and experience this winery's own unique brand with my own eyes and camera in hand. There were several fig trees in which I found a perfectly ripe fig to eat. There was was this orange stuff "growing" on some of the outside walls that I had to touch, and then scratch my head because I couldn't figure out what it was. Near the fig trees, hidden from the eyes of most.of the two-leggeds that visit the winery, is a diagram painted on a rather large propane tank. Who painted it? Was it a human that "dances with coyotes"? I tried and tried to duplicate the dance that the artist painted on the tank. The trickster that painted that mural is probably laughing at the thought of people trying to follow the dance diagram. Their flights were FREE!!! There were four different wines included: 3 whites and 1 red. I usually prefer drinking red over white, however, there was something uncommon with their white wines--a certain kind of freshness/aliveness. I really liked how it felt in my mouth. After tasting those wines she brought three more wines for us to taste. We fell in love with their 2016 Loureiro - a Portuguese varietal. They had a special for $48 for a case, and we snatched it up in a heartbeat. We plan to return in our next visit to the Lodi wine making region to the same place, and see what other new vinicultural gifts that they have to offer us.

They had a nice selection from rose to the more Lodi styled red wines. I really did enjoy all the wines and the price point seems fair. I guess I was kinda hoping to meet the winemaker, learn more about their vineyards and purpose for growing certain varietals. When you get wine with a story it makes the experience that much more enjoyable. I really like this place and I'm hoping to make a stronger connection with the business since I consider myself an advocate for Lodi wines since my hobby is to compare our wines with the best out in the other regions of CA. Pretty heavy competition but so far Lodi is more than able to compete with certain types of wines aka Zinfandel, Tempranillo, Syrah and occasionally Cabernet.

The grounds are absolutely beautiful. We got there on a Sunday afternoon about an hour before they closed. The tasting room is big and airy and they have a huge woodfired pizza oven. There was live music playing, and it was really quite good. It was just a little loud inside, but we got a flight of white wines and a gigantic charcuterie board. I thought the Italian inspired white wines were great, I especially enjoyed the Greco Bianco. It's dry but fruity with a nice round mouthfeel. The tasting room attendant that poured my wines was very nice, but she was low on knowledge of what the wines actually were. I've been drinking wine for a long time and I like to know a little bit about the grapes in blends. Fortunately, one of her coworkers was able to fill-in for her on the knowledge. The cheeseboard was piled high with different cheeses, if you cured meats, a bit of grapes and some really tasty candied nuts. And the marinated vegetable/olive blend was to die for. They also gave you a huge basket of crackers. I do think it was missing a little bit of a jam, maybe an apricot or a fig purée or a small slice of Membrillo. But I would still get it again. I'm excited to have found this business. It's only 30 minutes from Sacramento. They will be having live music Friday evenings and then on Saturdays and Sundays. A great weekend activity! The $15 fee (which is incredibly reasonable for what you see nowadays!) included 6 Portuguese style wines to sample. The Vino Cor de Rosa was a bit on the sweeter side for my liking. The Verdelho had a citrus/fruit note that I enjoyed with a green apple like finish. The Touriga was one I'd keep stocked. It had the nice dark fruit feel that I very much enjoy in a red. The type you want to keep flowing with a pasta (or even a hearty meat craving if you ask me!) The Souzao I'm not quite sure how to explain. Continuing my "Basic B" level of descriptions, it has almost a cola or Dr. Pepper taste to it (in a good way despite how odd my choice of description may seem!) The Syrah to me reads like a lighter port, though u can't quite pinpoint what brings me to that conclusion. Lastly, the Trincadeira was a nice seemingly light red that I wouldn't mind on the balcony with my book. It amazes me that with the grounds they have, they don't host much in the way of winery events (though they do host many private events). I can appreciate that it isn't the direction they're looking to go... but perhaps some day!

What a gorgeous gem not too far from Sacramento! Thanks to my friend who told me about this winery…read morethat is one of her favs, and she gave me a gift card, friends and I made reservations. Upon arriving, I could already feel the serenity of this winery. The weather was perfect when we went, as the sun was shiny brightly, and the trees surrounding us gave us perfect shade. Dogs and children are allowed, making this such a family friendly winery. They have a covered area that is perfect for large parties also, adding a touch of privacy. We were fortunate to have live music, which added to the relaxing time we had at Macchia Wines. We appreciate how they allow us to bring our own food, so we could pair the wines with our food for our picnic. We enjoyed the flights we tasted so much, that we each bought more than one bottle to enjoy back home. Thank you to the staff who took care of us at Macchia Wines!

The wine is decent. Facility is decent. Unfortunately, a staff are doing all kinds of things that…read moremake the place uncomfortable... First, they really need to slow down and greet people. They're texting behind the bar while serving using voice text which was actually quite funny. But just strange when you're wine tasting, They are all a little frazzled when it got just a bity busy and we're not communicating with customers or each other well. Made everyone uncomfortable. Then the way they addresses my kids and my wife were just pretty sad. They have a nice park like area with grass, swing seating, and a huge sign that says "it's all good" lol. I'm standing right there when an employee comes and tells my kids and their cousins, who were all sitting quietly on the swings, "this isn't a park and these are not swings you swing on, you can't be over here". Mind you that they are actually have chained porch swings and the kids were using them appropriately. Later she comes up to my wife randomly and says we have a rule that "all kids must remain seated the entire time". Which I think she just made up to be honest. And the kids were being very well behaved. My party bought two cases of wine, nearly $700 and we're having a get together at the winery.... and it was not busy outside. Just relax people.... or put some signs up outside and online that say "no kids allowed" if you want to be a bunch of weirdos. Or even better, be kind and welcoming.
