Let me start off by saying I love Herbie's. This is where my now fiancé took me on our first date. They have amazingly delicious food and a great atmosphere. Sadly, though, today my experience was .... less then. Don't get me wrong, the food was golden delicious as always, but, the staff.... I ordered a garden salad with balsamic vinaigrette and the fisherman's platter. The salad came first. Yum. But, somehow, the waitress spilt the salad dressing all over me. It basically ruined the shirt I was wearing. She did say sorry but I would think they would comp AT LEAST the salad or maybe even have the manager come over and apologize, however, once I had cleaned it up that was that. Went here on a Saturday night on a reccomendation. Don't let the appearances fool you. Yes it is a bit "rustic", but the food is fantastic, especially for the price. I had the Haddock and Scallop dinner and the fish was fresh and cooked perfectly. The drink prices were also very reasonable. You may have to wait in li e for a short while, but to me a line is always a sign that the place has something good to offer. I will definately be coming back! read more

I have been going to Herbies for several years and have always been happy with my food and the prices. waitresses are fun and efficient. The last 3 times the food has not been as good as usual, Clams overcooked, onion rings which we always order as an app. don't seem to be the same recipe. I hope with the new owners the quality of the food stays as excellent as it has been over the years. It is by far our favorite dive bar for really good food with fair prices. read more

This place is truly a gem! We went in search of the perfect lobster roll a few weeks ago and stumbled upon this place. WOW! Needless to say the lobster roll was superb and an incredible value, but so was everything else we've tried! During our initial visit I had the lobster Mac & cheese and hubby got the aforementioned lobster roll. Delish for both! We spent time talking to regulars who couldn't praise this place enough - so much so that we decided to visit again about 2 weeks later. Our next visit found us sampling tried-and-true favorites. Hubby got the meatloaf and absolutely raved about it. I had a classic Reuben sandwich and it was bliss. While we were waiting for our food we saw the lunch special prime rib being served. Can you say humongous, rare and absolutely perfectly cooked? Our neighboring diner said it was melt-in-your-mouth perfect. Now for the staff. Upon our first visit the bartender / waitress could tell we were newbie's and gave us some time to pursue the lengthy menu. She was attentive and quick and we couldn't ask for better service. Decided to try this place with some friends since several neighbors raved about the food and great deals on the cocktails. I heard the lobster roll was great so I tried that. Gross! It was cold, salty lobster on a soggy roll. There was NOTHING on the lobster at all. I expected maybe a little mayo...nope, nothing! I couldn't complain because our waitress never came back to ask how things were. I don't understand all the great ratings and why this place always has a ton of cars in front. This place is not good. Food was great. Only issue, my wife goes to counter to get the bartender attention. She said "what?" in the rudest voice I ever heard. I was behind her and proceeded to flip out on her and tell her no one talks to my wife like that. She didn't respond. I would not go there based off the service. At first glance, this place is a bar room, filled with neighborhood drinkers. Think Cheers but decidedly blue collar. Even so, this place is unique. The food is reasonably priced, and mostly made in house. The stuffing in the turkey dinner is made from real bread, and the turkey is real (none of that loaf stuff). Portions are decent, and the wait staff is polite, efficient and helpful. We're not talking gourmet food here, but it's pretty decent for what it is. On the negative side, the place is mobbed pretty much all the time (even at 2 in the afternoon), and there's not a lot of parking. Still, it's worth hassling with the parking issue if you're looking for a non-pretentious meal. read more

This place is fantastic! The food was served fresh and hot, my wait time (Tuesday at the bar around 12:30) was less than 5 minutes. Crab cakes were fantastic. I highly recommend coming here. Yes it is an old dive but come on a Friday or Saturday night (get there early) and the crowd is not so intimidating at all - lots of middle aged couples (w/a few younguns and seniors mixed in) just out for a bargain meal. 7.99 lobster rolls with slaw and sweet potato fries - crazy and crazy good! turkey dinners with all the trimmings also for about 7 bucks and oh, the scallop roll!....a generous portion of sweet large sea scallops fried in good grease, again about seven dollars complete w/fries. Other offerings start at about 5 bucks - pair one with a nice cold draft beer and you will not be disappointed! read more

Didn't get to try the food - couldn't get past the extremely loud and rude waitress - Even though "homemade onions rings" are on their Appetizer Menu - she said " You cannot order those on Fridays" However my grandson was getting onion rings with his Reuben....huh?? Duh?? 2:30pm on Friday 6-26-15: We went to Herbie's today after hearing about the great food on a Worcester Facebook page. We were starving, myself, my son and my grandson, and we looking forward to a great family meal. We drove out of our way to get there. My son has MS and Optic Neuritis and he sometimes has a hard time reading menus. I found one regular menu and one Specials Menu at our table. Right away I noticed, couldn't help but notice a very loud and boisterous waitress that seemed to be in a big rush as she was hurrying customers.....I decided to look for other menus so we could be ready to order when she came.....then I heard her yell at me across the room "Mame, there's one menu at each table", Well I knew that but I still wanted a menu for each of us to look at as it was ourt first time here and we were unfamiliar and I did not want to rush my handicapped son to decide so we could next see the menu. So I continued to look for menus - one for my grandson too. I coudn't believe it when the same waitress again yelled at me across the room telling me there was one menu at each table, I did answer her back in a reasonable tone, "I heard you the first time'. So my grandson, who is 9 yrs old, ordered his first Rueben, he is a real foodie already and was excited to try the world famous sandwich, which comes with french fries adn onion rings. The menu also says you can substitute all onion rings for .50 extra. I ordered the Scallop Roll but asked to have all onion rings but for some reason this same waitress rudely refused my request making references to 'something to do with Lent" and "we will not change the rules, it has bee that way forever", "we do not serve onion rings on Fridays" - I just said ok and asked for a side order of onion rings that are listed on the Appetizer Menu....the waitress insisted that "they do not serve onion rings on Fridays" I was confused because my grandson was getting onion rings with his Reuben, I asked her and she verified yes - he could have onion tings but I could not order a side order. She was very angry then that it was taking us too long to order and the waitress excused herself from taking our order by stating "well - I'll be back, I have food waiting to come out" She came back to take our order again and I was ready to cry at this point, so I just ordered the Scallop Roll with no fries. She started to argue again that the fries come with it - I don't know if she thought I did not want to pay for them - that was not it but she was angry....I was willing to pay extra for a side order of onion rings but she again insisted they are not for sale on Fridays. I told her, "Why are you so rude, and why are you yelling?" She said "I am not yelling" So she skipped by me and asked my son what he wanted and my son was so upset then that he answered "I don't want anything now". He was so insulted at the treatment I received from the waitress. The waitress disappeared and we sat for a minute - our jaws on the floor. We decided to just get up and leave and go eat somewhere else. I did start crying because my grandson was so embarrassed and had to wait even longer to eat now.... we got up to leave but I had to wait to pay for the two drinks that were ordered - 2 Snapple's - finally the waitress reappeared and shouted "You have to pay for the drinks" That'll be $3." I handed the waitress a $20 and then waited and waited and waited for her to bring the change - she did bring the change and handed it to me without saying a word. I was mortified. This was the worst treatment I have EVER received in a restaurant. This waitress was abusive, there is no kinder word. Other nearby customers were gawking and shaking their heads... I am not sure yet just what further action I am going to take in regard to this waitress, but I am not going to let this lie........Is this waitress an owner? Who owns this restaurant - from another review on this page it appears to me that the owner is eith unaware or they DO NOT CARE about each and every customer but only certain customers. Also before we got to order this same waitress was again gossiping behind us - loudly, in the same manner another reviewer already mentioned.......I guess this page is unofficial - so I have to follow up elsewhere - I just tried to call the manager and he said" How can I help you because I am busy?" I asked when I could call back, he said ".....In the morning" I am betting there will be no answer and no call back when I leave a message. I am going to have to go back in person tomorrow at opening time to see for myself what kind of a person allows such behavior from a waitress. read more
