As a self proclaimed oyster connoisseur the only thing I wish was the server asked me what type of oysters I wanted because the table next to us got different types than we did. Had never heard of this place, now I wonder how it has good reviews. The oysters are just ok. The shucking job was not good and some oysters were just fragments. This happened after they gave our 12 oysters to the wrong table then took 18 more minutes to reshuch 12 oysters. I got a fish sandwich. There was just some crumbled pieces of fish on it. Meanwhile other tables got the fish and chips and it was over flowing with fish. I don't get it. Wife got the lobster roll, it was just ok, the roll was soggy so she just ate the lobster. The glasses of wine are insanely priced. My daughter got a ceasar salad that had mostly white romaine, the grilled chicken was bland and dry. The best thing they made was the tuna tar tar, ironically. Then to top off a not great 200.00 experience for 2 people, it took the waitress 15 more minutes to bother to come back and run the card. Maybe drinks and apps on the deck only. Very dissapointing. Lesson learned which I knew... don't get seafood so far from the coast. read more

Best Haddock and chips in the city period. Tartar sauce was very tasty and the fries were crispy and seasoned well. Tried the fried oysters and they were delicious including the aioli. Service was excellent our waitress was very good and attentive. The restaurant was nice and cozy. On Yelp they get 5 stars hands down. Been to the Green Island Oyster a couple times now. It's good, not great, but worth giving it a try. I'm not a huge seafood lover so maybe not the best to judge. Menu, food, and service is all average. Not bad, not great. I didn't feel a connection in any way to this place but would not hesitate to return every now and then. read more

So happy GIO is here! It's always so nice when a restaurant fills a special spot in your culinary interests. We love seafood, and I'm often in the mood for high quality fried seafood in particular. The seafood is fresh, not greasy, cooked perfectly, and complemented by great sides. I'm not an oyster person but.. I couldn't resist trying them and they are excellent! Tuna tartare topping recommended. Fisherman's platter- HUGE and tasty! I tried this to sample several dishes at once. I almost always finish my food and I took half of this home! I did have a pre-meal and some oysters but still.. Crab cakes- big and really fresh crab forward! Unlike so many other places, any breading stays in the background. Fresh seafood spot worth checking out. Green Island Oyster is a great addition to the city if you're craving fresh seafood. Great place for a nice night out. They've got fantastic seafood options and also a raw bar right up front where you can see oysters being freshly shucked. Even serve wood-fired pizza if you're in the mood for something different. We really enjoyed everything we ordered--the food overall was great. My favorite was definitely the Hot Crab Dip. If you're a crab and cheese lover like me, you gotta try it. They take reservations through Resy, which is super convenient--especially on busy nights. Valet and self-parking are available, but it can get crowded. I asked my fiancé "how was the lobster" and her response sums up this place...." It was the most disgustingly overcooked lobster I've ever had". I ordered the wood fired haddock and it was grossly under seasoned and covered in some sauce. We ordered a dozen oysters and the 6 pemmiquids were very good. The other six were trash. One of our guests ordered the lobster roll trio and asked me whether I thought the lobster looked old. Nobody in the place, poor execution all around. Our one complaint has always been that mussels seem to be missing from the menu, but that was solved this week with the restaurant week menu!! Had a wonderful meal at Green Island Oyster last night. $1.50 oysters and we went innnnn - started with 12 each then ordered more as dessert. Lobster roll was $32 and packed with meat. Met up with some friends at Green Island Oyster in Worcester for a few adult beverages --which were all really good! My other half & I decided to split a lobster roll, and I have to say it was even better than when I had it back in July. We were really excited to try Green Island Oyster. Love oysters and loved the October oyster special! The oysters were delicious, our server Cecilia was great, cool ambience to the restaurant and we appreciated the easy parking. That said, it took 30 minutes to get our first dozen oysters at 6 PM on a Friday night. Outside of the oysters and great drinks, I think that the food and presentation need some attention. We only got appetizers, but the wedge salad was overdressed and had minimal bacon, the crabcakes were tasty but small and fell apart when we moved them to our plate, and the calamari was tasteless and greasy. Would definitely return for oysters and drinks, but would be hesitant about the food. read more

Ended up on a double date when a couple friends invited us out. They had already made the reservation and we were happy to. We admittedly don't try new spots often anymore because the cost of a night out is so high and id rather stick with our favorite spots and know I'll leave happy & fulfilled The PROS were the service and ambience. Fun spot, we choose to eat outside with summer coming to an end. They have two overly large umbrellas outside. Tables were spaced nicely, and the area isn't too congested with cars/noise. The insides was nice too, but bar feature and the "island/fishing" theme throughout. The hostess was attentive and our waitress took great care of us, always coming by to refill drinks and never got noticeably upset when we took a while catching up rather than selecting our meals. Plates and empty cups cleared quickly so our table was never cluttered. Bathrooms were clean and spacious and easily accessible from outdoor dining. The drinks were nice, we ordered a few dirty martinis and the blue cheese stuffed olives were spot on. My husband got a mojito and it looked fabulous with crushed ice but he did say it lacked much alcohol and ended up switching to beer. For apps we got a selection of oysters and the hot crab dip. The oysters were great, I preferred the Duxsbury for its brininess. Presentation was 10/10. The Hot Crab Dip was ok, it could have had more meatiness to it, it was creamy and flavorful. We all liked that it was served with kettle chips but it was as if they came from a cape cod snack bag of chips. They were just too tiny to dip in a shared app without getting your fingers in there too. It was also served with rice crackers, I personally just don't enjoy those but everyone else did. I will say our waitress was super sweet in bringing us more rice crackers/chips when asked and we weren't charged extra. Entrees for us all included the clam linguine which was really good. The serving size was nice, not too little or too much (since I'm not keen on seafood leftovers) and the flavor and consistency of the sauce was enjoyable. The clams were tender and perfectly 'sea salty' and worked well with the dish. Also ordered was the lobster roll, flavor was ask good and it was fresh, but was on the small or less stuffed size then you'd be used to for the price tag here in NE. My husband ordered a steak, he wasn't feeling seafood that night. He said the flavor was good as well as it being cooked as he had preferred but it wasn't the best cut of meat. He ended up with a pretty large fatty tough section so we bagged it up and brought it home for our dog. Four adults, two appetizers, four entrees, and a good few rounds of drinks came to a little more than $300 before tip. Not bad and expected. I wouldn't jump to go here again for dinner because again I simply love our usual spots and id rather spend the same and enjoy my meal more. But with that being said I'd definitely come back for lunch or girls night. Dinner for 5 adults. What was good: service, lobster, oysters. What was NOT good: fries too salty, grilled shrimp seemed steamed-- not grilled and way too salty, filet mignon was flavorless, meals didn't have a side salad option- so most had no veggies- just a giant pile of fries or pasta the meat choice. I'm sorry to say I was disappointed- seems like they need to settle in to the newness of it and pick a direction for their restaurant. They have the oyster bar, the rum bar, pizza, fried casual seafood, and meals that act like they are fine dining, but fall short. They should improve some areas that made me not want to go back, and maybe skip things that are not up to the image they are trying to impress. Went on a Sunday night. Nice and quiet, not busy. Food was amazing. Right off the bat we were floored with the amount of gluten free options. All the fried food is gluten free. Nothing with gluten hits the fryer. We had the crab dip, which is basically crab Rangoon filling. Absolutely delicious. I had the seared yellowfin tuna, he had the fried haddock. My veggies were maybe a bit heavy in butter, but they were super fresh and crisp, perfectly cooked. The tuna was outstanding. My only critique was this my meal needed a bit of acid somewhere and was a bit heavy on butter. Everything was still delicious and perfectly executed. His haddock, fries, and slaw were perfect. Gluten free fried food is not something common, so we appreciated not only having it but also how amazing it was. Cocktails have a tiki focus, their rum list is extensive, but I had a Manhattan, which was wonderful. He had a gluten free beer, another nice addition to the menu. Gluten free desserts are rare, so we had to get the gluten free ice cream cookie sandwich. The ice cream was icy, not a ton of flavor, but the gluten free cookies 100% made up for it.
