This place was alright. I got it delivered to my hotel since I was in town for work. It was very greasy, which was to be expected, but their packaging needs more work as it was just one piece of paper around my burger. There was no way to order cheese sauce on the side on DoorDash so the fries were soggy but the flavor was good. I was also not able to add a beverage on the DoorDash order without doing a separate order, I'm not sure if that's an error or how the restaurant is set up that way. I love this establishment and the food and have been many times, but had a very rude cashier, my past visit, who seemed very unhappy to serve me and my group. One of my friends asked for extra herbies sauce, but was given none, and then when she asked for her herbies sauce she was given BBQ sauce. Very disappointed with this overall experience. Got an unexpectedly good lunch at this Schenectady cafe. Herbie's Burgers has a few locations in Upstate including this one. It kind of is like a mini chain if you can call it that. Among the things they're known for is using high quality ingredients like grass fed beef. They're also known for the vegan options including shakes and plant based sandwiches. At lunch it actually wasn't that busy. It's still kind of new around here. This looks much like a fast food restaurant. Food also looks like it. Only thing is there's higher prices. It's about $6 for the vegan shakes, which are good. Pretty cool that these are made with oat milk and tahini. There's several flavors including banana, chocolate, and vanilla. It's about $9 for the Vegan Double Cheeseburger. This comes with a vegan version of their Nerdy Sauce. Toppings also include lettuce, onions, and tomatoes. Has fast food presentation and taste while using higher quality ingredients. It's higher cost as well unfortunately. A small shake, small fries, and a burger is 20$. For the price you get a greasy not great burger, soggy thin fries that are also not great, and an actually decent shake (though it seems like a shake with soft vanilla and just chocolate added, so disappointingly not a true chocolate shake). I've asked coworkers. They are also so far unimpressed. For the price, it's just not that good. Most lunch spots around range from 15-25$ by the time you get food, a side, and a drink. But you're getting what tastes similar to most fast food burgers. Love this Herbie's location, great addition to the Jay St market place. The burgers are awesome, grass-fed smashed beef patties, special sauce is yummy. Loaded fries are delicious, and the shakes are pretty much made from scratch. We stopped in to get some food before a show at Proctor's, with half an hour before show time, which we thought was plenty of time. Instead it was extremely slow, taking the full 30 minutes. We grabbed our burgers to go and ran, shoving them in our faces outside theater, and throwing half of them away so we weren't late. Soup stroll day downtown Schenectady... everyone is crazy buzy. I understand and respect that. However when you get only 75%of your order,that's just plain wrong. Ordered 2 vegan cheeseburgers, 1 regular one and fries. Waited 35 minutes. Got home to discover only 2 vegan burgers,and fries. The food was mangled and smashed to big sloppy mass. Fries were burned. The food at Herbies was so yummy, especially loved the fries and their nerdy sauce. Saw another review saying it was "soggy/greasy"...it is greasy, but nothing you wouldn't expect when you're getting a burger and fries. It didn't take away from the meal for me personally. The atmosphere is great and I think it's great they're open so late at night, definitely will be a good drunk munch. Taking a star away because of the attitudes of the owners..they just rubbed me the wrong way. They came off a bit rude and almost as if they were above the customers and the rest of staff (who were really pleasant). Might've just caught them at the wrong time & they were focused on how the new location was running rather than being welcoming, but they really didn't seem like friendly people who were excited to have customers in their new location. read more
