I returned the following week only to meet MOLLY another fun and personable bartender with quality adult beverage pouring skills and great specs. The cocktails here are stiff and at a great price considering the overpriced places around the Riv here in Redondo Beach. I haven't ate here yet but from what I have seen of others stuffing face around me the food quality looks fresh and people enjoy what they are consuming.... Located in the cute little Riviera Village area of Redondo Beach, Hennesey's was the perfect place to stop in Saturday night when we were around the corner and hungry. It's casual, and they have everything from burgers to salads to sammiches. It's easy to order both the indulgent (wings, fried stuff) and the healthy (like we did): Prime Rib Burger ($9.95) - since they have a low carb burger on the menu, I ordered this low carb style - meaning, no bun, and served with a salad and a couple pickle spears. It was a grilled patty (and yes, cooked perfectly rare just like I want it!) with a little pile of shaved prime rib and a dollop of creamy horseradish on top. The salad was a mix of fresh arugula, carrot julienne, and diced tomato. The balsamic dressing I got on the side was just okay. Blackened Ahi Salad ($12) - we got this with the citrus vinaigrette on the side instead of the balsamic, but it was a little too Italian-dressing-y for me. I guess I'm a purist when it comes to salad dressings - I much prefer to make it myself! The seared ahi wasn't overly blackened, but there was a bit too much feta on the salad for my palate. Service was polite and attentive, but there were a few communication issues that made the experience just a little weird for me. Our server was clearly training another girl who trailed behind her silently, but she didn't acknowledge her, or introduce her to us. I've seen training situations before, and they always introduce the trainee, which I think is the way to go. I ended up adding a fried egg to my order, but after we had finished everything, because I was still a little bit hungry. Both when I ordered my burger low carb style and when I ordered the fried egg, I got a silent and odd look from our server. They offer both of these things on the menu, so her response was a little puzzling to me. I also asked for no salt on anything, and when I got my food it was clearly salted. My friend also wanted to taste the Tomato Bisque, so we asked for a sample - knowing of course that soup is already made, and it shouldn't be an issue to taste it. Our server had to "check to see if she could get us a taste", which wasn't the most accommodating response. These are all little things, so it might sound picky - and I do feel a little picky saying it. I guess I've officially graduated from the Ciara G school of high standards, when it comes to excellent service in a restaurant! I dunno, something about the vibe that all these little things created made me feel like it wasn't the warmest, and more like our server didn't really appreciate being there. The place got increasingly busy throughout our meal, and the decibel level grew significantly. It was fine for talking earlier on, but towards the end we were yelling and it was still almost impossible to hear each other. Their menu makes it easy for me to get my protein and veggie fix, so I would come back here again if I was in the area. I would just hope to get a warmer server next time. read more

Most taverns don't have the best food, but Hennessey's seems to be a little worse than the average. The table was dirty and sticky. The fish and chips were greasy, and the coleslaw wasn't fresh. As a matter of fact, nothing really seemed fresh. I had better fish sticks from the frozen food section of the local grocery. Everything just seemed to be swimming in grease. I'll give It two stars because our server was pretty good. We had an appointment after lunch, and we're in a little bit of a hurry. Our waitress was able to get it on our way quickly, and we made our appointment on time. This might be a good place to come and drink, but for food only, I wouldn't recommend it. read more

I actually come to Hennesseys for their food not their drinks. My favorite lunch items are the Earth Wrap with avocado, tomato, pineapple and alfalfa sprouts (you can add turkey if you like) I have loved these before I went veggie. The other one is the California Dip...it is a French Dip with Ortega chilis...I am going to miss those...sooo good. Today I brought my son for breakfast. I had the California Benedict with turkey and avocado...but I requested no turkey and added spinach to make it more like a Florentine (BTW they don't have Eggs Florentine and now I know why...their spinach is raw not cooked BUT...it actually tasted really good) Technically it is a bar but I come here for the food. read more

Got the Prime Dip and it was good. Using medium-rare meat is the way to go, and the meat was tasty. In terms of portion, it was a little on the smaller size, especially for what you pay ($17). Got fries and they were also good. The service was also good and the servers were all friendly. Good atmosphere as well to drink a couple brews. read more

I have to say - in reading some of the recent reviews, I am a little bit perplexed and left wondering if maybe there are two different Hennesseys in Redondo Beach. Let me start from the top...I was in there a few Sundays ago while Christian was working. He was super professional the entire time and took care of my group while we waited at the bar before getting seated. On this particular night, I observed some things going on that seemed like they were part of a scene in a cheap homemade movie. There was a woman who was extremely intoxicated who was not only knocking over or drinking other people's drinks but she was also making out with a number of different people at the bar!! Things got a little bit out of hand and as he should have, Christian escorted her out. When we moved to a table, our server Brooke, who is playfully called Cheesy, was super attentive and took great care of us like she always does. Shout out to Christian and the entire staff for defusing the situation that night and for the free shot to help me forget all that I witnessed :). Aside from the drama of this woman (and no I didn't get a kiss), we had a wonderful time. We are eagerly looking forward to going back on a Sunday this month - hopefully this time I will be able to grab the mic and sing one of my favorite Led Zeppelin songs and continue to enjoy the good atmosphere and food that we are so accustomed to. There is a great group of staff here! We got lucky enough to snag a table on the front patio under the heat lamps. We had a large group, and they were able to accommodate all of us with tables and chairs. The waitress had "the perfect amount of banter" said my husband. The bathroom situation is horrible! A small bathroom downstairs or unkept port-o-potties upstairs. We sat upstairs in the covered patio area - which gets so loud you can't hear the person across from you & smells of various types of smoke. Not sure why it's covered if it's a patio (or if it isn't a patio why they allow people to smoke). Our waitress was good & the crowd was friendly. There are English pubs and Irish pubs. And there are beach pubs, which is what you get here in the Southern Cal. That means that local culture trumps any national culture, and authenticity isn't as important as fun. Likewise, Hennessey's is simply a down-to-Earth bar that's been around for ages. And the only sense of Ireland in this place are the Kelly green logo and the shamrock-shaped beer distributor promos. But no matter. While it's an old concept, Hennessey's is still good natured, easy-going fun. Whether it's the live music or the football (American style) that draws crowds on weeks. The food is standard high-calorie bar fare, there's a full bar, and the beer selection ain't bad (actually, the Irish beers like Harp on the list feel oddly out of place). Hennessey's isn't my go-to bar, and god knows it could use some sprucing up. But there are worse places, and much more stupid theme bars, and still it's a comfortable place to hang. read more

Review of the patio: They put up a fence so now you can drink outside!! Hooray!! However, if you bring a dog you have to chain him so he stands outside the fence or sit at the tables that are outside the patio, which means being prohibited from drinking alcohol. A real Sophie's Choice!! Still - this is a nice improvement from before when there was no way to bring a puppy around and keep him occupied while having a few drinks. There are no heaters and the patio tables are beat UP but you don't come to this place for the outdoor ambiance. I had a bloody mary and it was very horseradish-y but tasty and STRONG. My friend had the $6 margarita which came in a little glass but she enjoyed it. They also have Guinness blonde on tap; although I still prefer the stout this was actually a decent blonde. read more

I really enjoyed my first time here at Hennessy's! There was a group of 5 of us and the wait staff was friendly and attentive from the moment we walked in the door. We found a booth in the back and Chelsea immediately informed us of the happy hour special drinks and appetizers. FIL and I shared the Rock Candy Shrimp- they were so darned tasty! We also got garlic flatbread, chicken bites, and Irish nachos. We shared a pitcher of the vodka sweet tea( dangerous stuff ) and I had about 3 glasses worth of it. I also ordered a famous Bloody Mary because I was feeling extra randy and "when in Rome..." And I have got to say the first few sips were extremely spicy. I am used to a spicy BM but wowzers! But I had already a few drinks under my belt and soon enough I didn't mind. We also ordered meals (aren't we little piggies) and very much enjoyed our food. There was a party of guests with like 4 small children next to us and I have to say that this is not the place for children. I would never bring my children here because it's boring for them and there are people coming home from work who just want to stop in and have a pint and don't want to hear screaming kids in the background. June 2021 right after COVID: the wait staff was completely overwhelmed. The bus boys were the opposite. The managers need to train the new staff. The hostess didn't point out the new QR menu. Thankful I had seen other people scanning it. We waited 10-15 minutes for our drinks. The table next to us ordered first; they were seated 5-10 minutes after we were. We had to call the waitress over to order food. I had to go to the bar to get more hot water for my tea, had to ask for sugar twice, and never got a spoon for it. We had to ask for our bill. This is now the second time I have been treated with the utmost disrespect from the bartender whom I believe her name is Kenna. She was incredibly rude to me, other customers, as well as to her fellow colleagues. She has now been the topic of conversation once again within our circle, which we all agreed on that we will no longer bring our business here when she is working behind the bar. Went to this Irish pub for drinks last night. Ordered the Dublin donkey. You wouldn't be able to taste the alcohol because of the ginger. It actually tastes very good. A FLY IN MY BLOODY MARY!!! First off it came without olives which is a common garnish for a bloody Mary. I was stirring it with my straw. Then I saw a fly up against the inside of my glass. I asked to speak to the manager and a man named Dave came out. I got a long lecture instead of an apology of how there are flies in the world and sometime they just land and stuff like this happens. I would think that before DAVE the bartender/manager sends out the drinks he would check them. Or when apologizing to the customer that just took 2 sips of a Bloody Mary next to a fly in the glass show a little bit more consideration and regret for the disgusting and traumatic experience. As slow as it is because of the pandemic I would think that he would want customers to come back and not treat them with disdain. Worst customer service ever they should get a new manager with better customer service skills! , I will not be going back there. I would suggest that everybody check their food and their drinks to make sure that the flies that are in the world didn't land inside your drinks or food. Came here for my sister's pre-wedding Wedding Party Party. The food is way overpriced for the tiny portions of these bland dishes that you receive, which seem to be simmering in orange oil through and through. The wait staff was straight-up rude, refusing to assist us on helping split the bill (despite us indicating there would be a few methods of payment ahead of time) on what seemed like a pretty low key, not busy evening. They were annoyed every time we ordered something new or changed an order, and acted like it was a mission when they had to walk around the tables to get us our food. She would've gotten a great tip off of a 450 dollar check with some help and if she rolled here eyes a bit less, but she was so flippant and so crude that we gave her an absolutely minimal tip. Hennessey's brand new menu is nothing short of awful. I think it was meant to be an upgrade, as the prices are higher, but boy has the food gone to crap! My $10 grilled cheese sandwich was served on a tiny piece of sourdough bread. This amazingly greasy mess of a sandwich came with barely warm, bland tomato soup and some greasy chips, (as if the sandwich wasn't enough grease to start with). My wife got their prime dip. If there were grass in Redondo Beach's Riviera Village, this cow would have picked himself off the plate and gone back to grazing. Did the chef just forget to cook it or confuse it with sushi? I give them props for not charging us for it but at that point, we were both pretty grossed out. I realize that Hennessey's is a pub and their strength is serving drinks. However, when a burger costs $13, grilled cheese $10, and other meals hitting the upper teens, I don't think it is unfair to expect higher quality than they provide. 1 star, they are going downhill rapidly. I came here thinking there would be nothing but lovely Hennessy (this place is actually spelled Hennessey so I read it wrong lol) but got just slightly disappointed to find out that this is just your average bar/restaurant. There is a slight twist though. There's karaoke at night (we went on a Sunday night)! The singers and announcers were pretty good, I was impressed. Unfortunately, I did not get to try any foods. I did however get the large draft of oh so faithful Guiness. Prices here seem average, $8 for that large draft; not too bad. Service was pretty friendly and easy going too, something greatly appreciated. If I'm ever in the area I'd probably give it another try. read more

Absolutely ruined my night by coming here for dinner. FOOD WAS CRAPPPPYYY and overpriced!!!!! Maybe a good spot for a drink but the food is probably only tolerable after half-a-dozen pints. Got shepherd's pie ($13). It had about 3 cups of mashed potatoes and 2 to 3 tablespoons of ground meat sandwiched in the mashed potato. And they slobber it with some disgusting tasting red wine sauce so I guess that you don't see what you are actually getting. The ground meat did not even taste fresh. Last time (about a week ago) I went was to meet up with some old high school buds. The other guys aren't really in the area much to know about newer spots so I went with the flow. Got there before the other guys arrived and ordered the Poke. BIG MISTAKE. I probably should take some blame here, asking a bar to make a decent poke might be too much to ask. Anyways, the other guys arrived and we ordered beers (was not impressed by the selection). I got the Turkey burger with bacon bits. not the worst I've had but a very dry patty and the bacon bits seemed like the kind you buy at the grocery store. As soon as we got the bill, we asked to have it split. The waitress gave us a glare and begrudgingly did so. We all looked at each other and were happy to leave. I won't be back. ever. Service everywhere around Cali and Vegas is slow, including the traffic.(Not my first time in either place) I am going to upload some pictures, of what this place calls "Cornedbeef and Cabbage"... It was horrible and they used real Idaho potatoes, rather than the russerts. The cornedbeef was obviously thawed and the taste was completely drained from it, as if it had been thawed too long. Also, there is pineapple on it and it appeared canned. I expected something fresh. I should have sent it back but was with a friend and decided not to complain. I needed to eat again about 2.5 hours after the lunch there. I don't plan to go there again anytime soon. read more
