Was in the Torrance area for some shopping. Ended up driving to this location. I always stop at any Islands for happy Hour. Yesterday the dodgers and Brewers were playing which made it even sweeter! Sports and Happy hour always mixes well. I was very happy about that! Ordered from the Happy Hour menu and the rest was history. Fresh Beer, Nachos and a Salad. Fresh and delicious. No complaints, great ambiance and friendly service as usual. read more

First time at this Islands at the Rolling Hills Plaza in Torrance. Have been to other Islands in the local area but, this was a new and good experience. Got the basics- the Big Wave burger with lettuce, tomatoes in a wheat bun and fresh cut Island fries. Crisp in the secret blend of spices. I asked my burger to cooked medium well and they did a great job with that. Hubby got a the Pipeline burger which is a chili burger. I had a taste. It's good but not something I would choose. The server asked if we would like to order dessert and we declined as there are great dessert options in Rolling Hills Plaza. 4 stars. We would eat here again. read more

I am not a regular at Islands. It is not my first, second, or third preference, but I will occasionally go along with the group for a meal after worship. The service was good, but the food and drinks were mid. The best things about our visit were (1) they showed Sunday Night Football, and (2) their happy hour. Not many places have happy hour 7 days a week, 3:00 p.m.-6:30 p.m.--that's 24.5 happy hours in a week! read more

My family comes here every year because it's my brothers favorite restaurant and we look forward to coming for his birthday. There has never been a year where we didn't enjoy our time, the food is tasty and still so affordable, I always order the jr wave with sweet potato fries and I personally feel like it's the perfect portion. Our waiters are always pleasant and tending to our needs! We love the beachy feel the restaurant captivates and the themed decor is super fun! We were able to bring our own cake and light a sparkler candle with no issue and we were so grateful! The nachos are balanced with cheese and other toppings. If you're looking for an exciting restaurant that's kid and adult friendly I'd recommend this gem!! read more

Islands is so underrated. Sure its nothing special, but when you need a good burger and beer, you can't go wrong with your local islands. This location in particular had a great vibe for a Friday afternoon. Sat at the bar with no wait. Service was great. They even surprised my friend with a free dessert for his birthday! I always love island's consistency. I use to work here when I was 18, and I ate the food before and I still eat it after I worked there for several years. We went during a play off game so they had smaller sizes for a discounted price, which is perfect!! Drink: I had their verison of the aperol spritz, it was good and refreshing. Food: they have tempura battered green beans and can't go wrong with anything battered and fried. I love this addition, or it might be around for awhile and haven't had it. I'll def get it again. We also had the chicken nachos, wnd it was perfect. The cheese even made it to the bottom chips. It use to be a consistent issue before, but not on the mini size. Finally the cheese fries! You just have to eat it before the cheese turns into a brick but still hits. Service was good and the place will always remind me of my teens and early 20s! The decore hasn't changed at all and I love it. read more

Not the best or worst experience. The burger was good, however, the fries were not good. It felt like salt was dumped on top without shaking them, most felt that had all the salt and others were very plain and they were not fried all the way. Service was good, they were polite. Not sure if it was around closing time when I went but I felt a bit rushed to finish and leave. read more

The service here is outstanding. The server we had was assisting multiple tables, but checked up on us multiple times. All our food came out quickly. I'm very impressed with how well this establishment is run given how busy it looked. The food here has its hits and misses. The Malibu burger is very good as is the Pineapple Prickly Pear drink. The fries, which look like larger versions of In n out fries, are okay. The Spinach and Artichoke dip was a bit watery, but good. read more

Got seated quickly and they brought us water right away and asked what other drink they can get for us. We ordered our food and it came fairly quick with sizzling hot fries and a warning they were fresh out of the fryer. (Unfortunately for some reason my food pics came out blurry!) I had the Hawaiian Burger on wheat and fries, as always a good juicy and messy burger! We also ordered the Islands Fish Tacos that came with big pieces of fish and the Bog Wave burger. It was about 5:30 pm and the restaurant was pretty much full and noisy with basketball and hockey on the televisions, always a fun place to come have a great meal. read more

Always loved Island burgers and that's exactly what I wanted after seeing a movie at AMC Rolling Hills. I wasn't disappointed. My Big Wave with Swiss cheese was cooked perfectly. Meaty, moist with lettuce, tomato, mayo and onion on a wheat bun. Hubby had the tuna sandwich that had a BIG scoop of tuna. Both came with a basket of fries. Service is good. read more

This place is always a good call. I rarely ever wants to go to Island's, but it's one of those places that we always end up. Very important to note, the chili was taken off the menu and then brought back so it is official Island's has chili again!!! That's super important because my favorite thing on the menu is the Pipeline burger. On this day, we went for some drinks and snacks just to kill some time and hang out together. While I don't love branded menu items, we had to try the Bachelor in Paradise themes drink flight. It's supposed to be only on Mondays, but it's their regular drink flight just branded for ABC so you can get it whenever. 10 out of 10 - always recommend read more

Got the Big Wave Burger with an upgrade to Onion Rings ($19.24) to go. The To Go Ordering Station is located towards the back of the restaurant next to the kitchen. The burger was good sized. Sunday at Islands did not disappoint. I decided to pick up food to go, and there was a great crowd in the bar watching football. They have a seven-day-a-week happy hour in the bar from 3 to 630, and also a happy hour during all NFL games. The waiter, Gabe, was fast and friendly. i'm definitely adding this to my rotation for the end of the NFL season. They're definitely seem to be some regulars watching the Rams game. read more

Came here for a birthday celebration with a pretty big group, and despite it being busy I feel it was still a really enjoyable time at Islands! I tried the burger salad for the first time and I really liked it! Everyone else at the table seemed to really enjoy their meals, service was pretty consistent & we had a fun time celebrating! And the waitress also brought over a complimentary ice cream sundae to sing happy birthday so it was a nice touch to the dinner experience! Definitely recommend coming in & plan to be back in the future! (: - also a side note to anyone going in with a big party on a weekend, they don't take over the phone reservations so they recommended me to called about 30 minutes before arriving to put our name on the waitlist; I definitely recommend it to lower your wait time on prime busy days! read more

We were hosting a birthday party for our daughter and our venue canceled on us. This Islands location was able to accommodate a large party on short notice. Servers here a nice, we got seated right away. The server came back to check on us plenty of times. The food did not take long to come out. It was fresh and cooked to perfection. Always love their happy hour! Came here with my wife recently and the bartender Rocio made our visit very pleasant! Good service.

Not bad if you're craving a burger .. burgers are average nothing special beers ate nice and cold though. I must admit they are refreshing .. The staff was very attentive very polite. Very nice parking can be tough during peak hours so I'll be prepared for a little walking. Decor is nice inside a little bit of island style Hawaiian style, tropical style, and the stuff on the walls not a bad place for lunch. One of my favorite restaurants in the universe so I have been coming here since I was a child. I would definitely recommend the strawberry frozen margarita if not the deep blue sea the soup is phenomenal. Oh yeah, and anytime you go please ask for Yuri to be your server. Seating was quick and waitress was welcoming. I have been here many times and this is always the service they provide. This time however my family and I went for Happy Hour. We got Margarita Lites (they are priced the same as the regular Margaritas on their regular menu). We incorrectly assumed that the Lites would also be included in the Happy Hour solely based on the fact that both are priced the same. Got the bill (we were charged full price for the Lites) asked if they were part of the Happy Hour. It's also worth mentioning they incorrectly charged us more than advertised for adding protein so we believed they might have also charged us more for the Lites. Waitress immediately called the Manager and he was quick with a smug attitude. Ruined the experience by the end of it we felt unwelcome. read more

[Review #822] 2024-021 Food Order: KILAUEA (jalapeño & black pepper-crusted burger, pepperjack cheese, chipotle aioli, lettuce, tomato, Islands Reds), FRESH-CUT ISLANDS FRIES, JR. WAVE BURGER (cheeseburger) & ISLANDS FRIES, STRAWBERRY LEMONADE Server: Kristin Islands Restaurant used to be one of my fav places to hang out with friends, especially during my college days & initial subsequent years... and was slowly replaced by other burger joints & restaurants. When I first dined at the Rolling Hills Plaza location, it was several years after I had moved to the South Bay; by that time, the bottomless fries were no more. Not that I need it since I don't burn calories the way I used to (playing competitive tennis & other sports). On this recent return, my son's elementary school was holding a fundraiser where 20% of the proceeds for food & drinks order are donated to the school, which is pretty generous. Thanks Islands! I don't believe the menu changed much because I was able to find my favorite burger: Kilauea with Islands Fries, & M had the Jr. Wave Burger with fries & a strawberry lemonade. It was rather chaotic because of our fundraiser, with a lot of little ones running around that I worry about the servers' & kids' safety. C'mon people... keep your kiddos in check so they don't cause an accident! I thought most handled it pretty well, but there were a handful that kept repeatedly running past our table, which was right by the kitchen. Yikes! Our order came fairly quickly on this busy night. My patty was cooked to a perfect medium & nicely crusted with a kick of heat from the jalapeño & black pepper, & additional oomph from the pepperjack cheese & chipotle aioli. The lettuce was crisp & tomatoes were sweet, & cool against the hot burger. The Islands Reds are fried onions that added a nice layer of crunchy texture. The natural cut (intact skin) fries were served hot & crispy. All I can say was "yum!!" M's Jr. Wave Burger was a plain hamburger + cheese, nothing else. I thought there would be ketchup... nope, but I can add some with the bottle in the condiments stand. He liked their fries & compared them with his fav burger restaurant's, with Islands coming out on top. His strawberry lemonade was a tad too sweet IMO, & watering it down at 2/3s was still on the sweet side! He still enjoyed his drink, but he was like "awww" & stared at me during his refill to keep the intense sugar level. Nope, not before your bedtime on 2 refills. I had to wait a bit for my water refill because it was THAT busy. Kristin was friendly & responsive, but a little hard to flag down due to the chaotic fundraiser night. Will we return or wave goodbye to Islands Restaurant? If M has anything to do with it, we'll definitely be back. Recommended: Kilauea (if you like a little flava heat, this burger got yo' back), Jr. Wave Burger, Islands Fries, & Strawberry Lemonade (tad too sweet for my liking). read more

Been a good experience every time I've been there ! Bomb burgers & drinks mostly during happy hour !

Typically before going to the movie at the nearby AMC Theater, we stop in for dinner at islands. I usually have the Shorebird which is a grilled chicken breast with lettuce, tomato and pickles. It never disappoints. The chicken is flavorful and not over cooked so it is moist. The sweet potato fries are wonderful. It's a bit loud inside with all the tv's on but for a casual restaurant it's fine. Service is good and our waiter Joel was courteous, professional and friendly. A fun place to go read more

This white girl I hang with loves this place. She always knows what's happening like 10$ big wave days, and the change in happy hour times (even the addition of the late night happy hour), and the deals on the mai tais. So ofc I'm always there with her. The cheese fries are always the main course. And it's on the happy hour. Being on the happy hour means everyone gets everything from the happy hour-- each. If that's not a perfect day I don't know what is. Me personally I get the margs. The way they are blended is just sooooo fine. Is there even alcohol in there?! But that's what I love about it bc there sure as hell is in fact alcohol in it girl. I love a good mushroom anything but more specifically the burger. Get that burger. read more

COLDEST BEER IN TOWN!!!! Enough said This should be my only statement, but i will continue. Place is great, it's a chain, but that ok. Like I said "Coldest beer" Been going to this one for years. Never had a problem! Recently went in and had a great lunch (as usual) and ask the manager for a donation for my veterans fundraiser, "NO Problem"!!! Very nice for them to give back to community. Gift card donation will benefit the veterans greatly. Thanks again Special thanks to Brian Klemann and his staff last sunday July 6th. He's been very helpful many times. GOOD DUDE. read more

If you don't like Islands, then I don't like you. This place has more character than a 1990's Jim Carrey role. I grew up on these delicious, fresh cut fries. They are my gold standard for fries, let me take you on a journey: The initial bite is crisp, but upon breaking through the fry wall, you are met with a blast of soft, yet fluffy potato. There is a perfect ratio of crisp to potato on every chew. Before you have processed what has happened, you find your right hand already has 3 more fries in its grasp and they are approaching your mouth at lightning speed. It is truly an out of body experience. This was the spot where my Granny would take my brother and I growing up, I would get the Tiki Tenders (chicken tenders) and he would get the Sand Castle (grilled cheese). Real ones will remember when they offered endless fries. We used to go HAM until we were literally filled to the brim. Knocking off a star because when they took the endless fries away, they took a piece of my soul with it. In my twilight years, I have become more health conscious and have pivoted from my beloved tiki tenders to a beach bowl, but still must have fries every time I enter this beautiful establishment. The servers always make you feel like you are right at home in this place, seemingly genuinely happy to be there and if they're not they deserve an Oscar. read more

a) My silverware arrived underneath the onion rings. Silverware should arrive with the napkins BEFORE food shows up. b) Surfing, snowboarding, and skateboarding videos are boring. Islands' television sets should be tuned to sports (especially weekends in the fall when there is no shortage of football) whenever possible. c) I used to love their burgers when they used shredded iceberg lettuce. Now they've switched to 'mixed greens' lettuce, and I merely like their burgers. Oh well, ....first-world problem. read more

i've been going there since i was 16 and their burgers have always been outstanding. i think i'll be honest and the services fairly prompt. i must say that the food is and has been always on point and satisfying. however, this is just my personal opinion because i can only speak for myself, other people can piss and moan about it. however, if i was to give a score from 1 to 10 i would definitely give them an 8. thank you to the staff yhat has always been kind to me. read more
