I ordered the "In-Wall Cable Running" service to move a network outlet from one wall to another. The technician was very knowledgeable about in-home networking but said that this service did not include running cables behind drywall. Instead he suggested a network mesh, which is still wireless and would not provide the speed of a wired connection, which is what I needed. I was in the middle of renovations that included extensive electrical work, and when I told my electrician this story, he ran the cable for me at no extra charge. Since the baseboards had already been removed, it took him about 20 minutes. The HelloTech description of the "In-Wall Cable Running" service is: - Assess the cable run path - Run cable behind the wall via the determined path - Test connection to ensure functionality - Can be applied to TV cables, Ethernet (internet) cables, and speaker cables For some reason, the technician did not think this actually meant running the cable behind drywall. Since he was there, he helped me troubleshoot some dead in-wall network ports, so in reality I received the "troubleshooting" service rather that the "in-wall cable running service" Ultimately I paid $250 for a $69 service that I never would have requested since I could have done that myself. read more

Just moved into my new home and need it to have my Bose lifestyle system installed. I calles several places and found this company. I explained what I need it done. 5.1 soun system. I need to have wires ran for front and back speaker. I told them the house was not wires for surround system so it needed to be done. I tool the day off from work to make sure it would get done. Requested two in-wall ethernet cable runs in a single story house with accessible attic. Installer arrived on time, but even after FIVE and a HALF HOURS had not completed the job, causing drywall damage I have to hire someone to repair. Company told me to expect a full refund within 24-48 hours, but after 72 hours told me it may be a few more days for them to review. WTF. So, I'm disputing with AmEx and warning y'all. 1. Installer said he didn't own a cable snake and had to run to the store to buy one. 2. Installer left his drill bits at home and had to borrow mine. 3. Only ran one line, and outside the house - not in the wall. Blue cable along white exterior paint on my back porch. 4. I do not recommend Hello Tech if you ever have an issue that needs to be resolved. A technician came out to install a new HP printer, but he didn't finish the connection for scanning to my Mac. I didn't need that feature until recently, when I needed to scan tax documents to sent to my CPA. I tried to set it up myself without success. I followed up with Hello Tech to remedy the issue and have gotten the run-around from them for a week about sending a technician out to fix a problem I shouldn't have incurred in the first place without an additional charge. I signed up for their membership when the TV's were installed and they said I could cancel at anytime. THAT'S NOT TRUE! When I called to cancel today's service they said they were going to charge me $69! When I asked them to cancel my membership they said they would send me a link. Hello Tech postponed and rescheduled my appointment many times over the course of a weekend. During the process, they offered me a discount to be applied once the service was completed. When the service was actually completed 3 days later, the discount was not applied. I followed up on-line and the representative said I needed a code. I explained I didn't receive an actual code but was texted stating I would receive a discount and then I confirmed it by the company. She said she couldn't help me but would forward my question to support. I never heard from support and again had to follow up. I don't see why I paid over $300 for an installation and only one tech shows up for a two tech job. This is an 85 inch flat screen tv and only one man shows up, and he insists on having my sister help him with the entire process, all while being unsure of what he's doing (by making comments) along with complaining about his pay in front of her, saying the company only pays him a third of what we're paying overall. Absolutely worst experience. Ordered service to have two TVs hung and our internet and cable hooked up. Wound up paying over 500 because I was unknowingly signed up for a membership that I still don't understand. The tech showed up and after showing him what all had to be done he informed my husband that his work order was only to hang TVs and that he wasn't qualified to do anything else. My husband did get upset And loud but finally the tech called his boss and with the phone on speaker was told that his work order did include everything we had told him. It obvious made him mad but he did hang the two TVs. It took 3 hours and one was hung on the wrong wall. He again said he wasn't going to finish the work and after yet another argument he said he would try to hook up our internet. Even with help from spectrum he couldn't get it working. At this point we started asking him to leave. He became rude and at one point turned to me where my husband couldn't hear and asked me twice if I had guns in the house. I told him that if he didn't leave I would call the police. He did go at this point but had left a piece of equipment. My husband put it out in the front yard where he could see it. He did not come out to get it but we kept looking and he stayed in front of our house for about 20-30 minutes. He finally disappeared but didn't get his equipment. We went out and put it on the porch afraid it would be stolen. The more we talked we decided it would be wise to make a police report. When we did we found out he had simply moved his car a few doors down and had called the police himself. We were able to have he police give him the equipment and they got rid of him. I called the company and they seemed to be concerned they told me they would refund all of my money because other than hanging the TVs nothing was done. I felt that was more than fair. However that was over a week ago and I talked to them again yesterday and was told that nothing had been done but they would OK d look into it and have someone call me back. There has been no follow up. As well when we had someone else hook everything up we found out that one of the TVs he hung had been damaged leaving a double line running down it. This was a new tv still in the box. This company is very dishonest and has absolutely zero care for who they send into your home with no accountability whatsoever. Beware!! I booked an appointment online with HelloTech to have some ethernet cable in my attic replaced because my internet upstairs hadn't been working. The day of the appointment I decided to check the signal and it was strangely working, so I went on the website to cancel my appointment. No where in the quick and easy process of cancelling, did I see any policy about being charged the full amount of the service call if you were within a certain time of your appointment. If it was there, it was buried/hidden in tiny print, nothing warned me. The cancellation email said nothing about charges. Still worried about the pending charge on my credit card, I went on their website and chatted with a service rep who actually told me that NO CHARGES WOULD BE INCURRED. I left town for a couple weeks and come back to check my bank statement and find that the full service charged had been charged to my credit card. I just chatted with a service rep who pointed me to a link on their site buried at the bottom of the home page for their Cancellation Policy and that the previous rep "was mistaken". Terrible business practice and deceiving website to not point out that a cancellation policy was in affect for my cancellation. Stay away. read more

I received a text at 11am saying the Tech was running behind and would be here in 30 minutes. Tech shows up at noon and doesn't have the mounting bracket for my TV. I contact Hello Tech and they're not sure what happened. I told them that I already paid for the service including the mount and they said that the Tech has to go and get the mount. I just went out to the Techs vehicle to speak with him and he informed me that he bid on the project based on the price. He didn't see that there was a mounting bracket included in the work order. He said he would call into the office and and then let me know what the next steps would be. The Tech has since driven away without communicating anything to me. Well, I'll start with the good- prompt communication, installation team (2 guys) let us know they would be 15 minutes later and showed up in that time frame. Friendly, with masks. Now, my two complaints, which could be alleviated if Hello Tech changed their procedure to ask two important questions: 1) Before installation- "Is the battery for the Ring phone charged fully? If not, you have to do that before we show up." and 2) During installation- "Do you have a WiFi extender and does it have a separate name?" This latter question occurred to me after I had entered my password for my basic wifi router ID but the tech guy wasn't really listening when I asked about this and had moved on to something else. Because my battery had an 11% charge, Techs could not test the live view sufficiently, meaning that I was getting no live view. After I recharged the battery, I still had no Live View. Long story short, I called Ring.com and they agreed that, yes, I should connect to my wifi extender device, NOT the basic route. They were able to remotely confirm that the power feed to the doorbell increased greatly after the switch. Problem solved. Since part of the service I was paying for installation was not just to physically install it, but get it up and running, I feel like I got only half the service I paid for, hence three stars. read more
