Salmon Aburi Oshi and Ebi Aburi sushi
Evan C.

I love this place. It's a sushi hand roll specialty place - and they are very good - but they have lots of other food as well, including many standard Japanese appetizers and cooked items. The presentation is excellent - you get a unique wet hand towel, you get one hand roll at a time, and much attention is paid to how to serve you on a very long bar (most people sit at the bar). There is a unique and high quality looking sushi plate and sauce square. The space is big, with a really cool ceiling. The only problem is everything is so good but small bites so you order too much. By the way this location has an awesome 9:30-midnight happy hour menu. Great deals! - Aburi Oshi - really good, presentation and flavour - both my scallop and salmon rolls were excellent. Especially the scallop - slightly crunchy and amazing flavour and texture. - kale gomae is good, love the lotus fried topping - soft shell crab looked really good - Ebi fry was incredible. As crunchy and good as the one at Miku. - avocado roll was very very good. Can't go wrong here.

Came here for the first time for dinner. We were debating one of the tasting menus but went ahead to order the Shokak Hand Roll Set and we ordered the $55 one as they mentioned they were known for their hand rolls here. This is the first time I've ever ordered anything like this and I will say it is absolutely delicious. Each hand roll is freshly made one by one and served immediately for you to enjoy. Loved the flavours of each roll! Highly recommend and would absolutely go back! Our servers and chef who personally rolled each piece were so sweet and kind.

Came here after a hard evening of snowboarding at cypress. Love that they're open late. They had the fine out Vancouver menu going on which we tried for $60. Amazing deal. Love the restaurant decor and lots of parking. Friendliest and kindest staff. Love it!

Great place for sushi with a nice decoration! The dishes were all very tasty, and I really liked the idea of the circular table which it makes it easier to interact with others. I just wish the customer service had been a bit better.

First time at Hello Nori in Park Royal South. The interior/vibe is very elevated. The food was delicious! They specialize in hand rolls and they're quite affordable too with great quality fish. The service was quite quick for 5:30pm on a Friday night. The place was pretty much empty but they've only been open for a couple of weeks. I would like to see some of their oshi become gluten free but appreciate them having gluten free options! Will definitely be back!

Meh. It was ok. It's pretty expensive for the experience of a hand roll. Service was great though and it's a cool looking venue.

He recognized her love for miso and he got us a whole bunch of extra miso soups. He was also very nice and acccommodating. I had a salmon toro and it was really good. Also had the salmon teriyaki - it comes in a big bowl with lots of veggies in it, seems more like sukiyaki as it's full of broth. The broth is really good too - I highly recommend it. Oh and they have two kinds of miso soup - including clam miso soup which my daughter really liked! The crispy oshi was much bigger than I remembered. Huge slices of avocado! Great place.

I tried something new this time. It was a cold rainy day so I was in the mood for a bowl of hot soup and noodles. I had a Vege Udon. My mom ordere the seafood Udon. So OK...I suppose soup and udon noodles isn't exactly trying something new as I've definitely had soup and udon noodles before. However, udon noodles are something I have rarely ever ordered over the years. Especially as Ramen seems to have gotten more popular over the years than Udon. Plenty of Ramen restaurants within Greater Vancouver, but how many restaurants in Vancouver specialize in udon? Not very many. I don't know why I don't order udon noodles more often. When it's a cold, rainy day I always think Ramen noodles but this bowl of Vege Udon was just as satisfying as any bowl of Ramen. Actually, maybe more so since I've had lots of Ramen over the years but hardly any bowls of udon noodles. This was a refreshing change of pace. They serve the udon noodles in what appeared to be a cast iron bowl. Simple yet so elegant. I loved the flavor of my broth. It was a nice, light broth. Not too rich, and it had a sweet flavor to it. I think I've just regained a new appreciation for Udon noodles!

Not too oily. It was a lot of food for the dine out menu which made me feel I had my money's worth. I came back again with a friend and I had the lunch box. It was still very good food. My friend likes the simple California roll combo with nigiri and miso soup. On another visit, our party of four ordered a bunch of stuff to share. The curry Donburi was not too spicy, on the mild side and the potato croquettes were very tasty. The gyozas were good. Sashimi was fresh. Our friend who came in from Montreal declared it was one of the best Dragon rolls she had ever tasted. The crunchy topping for crunch crunch was delightful. Loved both my dishes. The Angry Tofu is a nice change of pace from Agedashi Tofu. It's got a bit of a kick to it. Still love my Agedashi Tofu but it's just nice to have something slightly different every now and then. The Avocado roll was excellent. We usually like getting Avocado roll from another restaurant that's actually in the same block as this restaurant. Always happy to know of another place though where we can get a good Avocado roll. No signs of browning on any of the Avocado, and they were very generous with the amount of Avocado that was put into the roll. This place was apparently part of the Dine Out Vancouver event. They had a Dine Out menu that was $55 but none of us chose to go for that. We preferred to order off the regular menu. I like that they have some different offerings on their menu such as the Angry Tofu, and I also saw Oden on the menu. This is probably the first time I've seen Oden on the menu at Japanese restaurant on the North Shore. On the other hand, I was surprised that some of the usual items I tend to see on most other Japanese restaurant menus, were not on the menu here. Seafood Yakisoba for example, wasn't on the menu. I was hoping to bring home an order of that for my mother who hadn't been feeling well enough to come out with us but I had to choose a different item since Seafood Yakisoba wasn't on the menu. I was expecting something the size of a bowl of miso soup but this salad was ginormous! Way more than I bargained for. Thank goodness it was just a salad and not a huge bowl of rice. I still walked out way fuller than I had intended to be though. It was a good salad though. Japanese salad dressings seem to agree with me more than Western style salad dressings. Avocado Cone was the highlight for me though cuz at heart...I'm just not really a salad person. It's something I eat when I wanna eat lighter and steer away from the carbs. Kinda wished they'd brought my salad sooner so I could have eaten it first and then finished off with my Avocado Cone, but they brought my Avocado Cone first and took quite awhile to bring my salad. So...with my Avocado Cone sitting in front of me looking oh so tempting, I couldn't wait any longer and sunk my teeth into it. Oh, mom ordered a bowl of Seafood Udon and that was also a very impressive size. Another ginormous order of food. They are very generous at this restaurant!

I went here for a special occasion dinner. Reservations are highly recommended because they are…read morevery small - 12 diners per sitting and 2 sittings per night. I made reservations about 4 months in advance. Upon arrival, one of the hostesses opened the door for us, and asked us to wait in a very ornate waiting area. We only waited a couple of minutes before another hostess seated us at the main seating area. The space is very dark, and only lit with candles while the rest of the diners trickled in. During that time they take drink orders, which is limited to sake, wine, beer and a few non-alcoholic drinks. Of note, they don't provide a drink menu, so we were a little surprised by the cost - the yuzu sake and the plum wine were $30 each. My non-alcoholic drink was $12, but a fair size. The theatrical portion started a few minutes later than the official start time - closer to 6pm. The shades lifted, the lights turned on, and the chefs introduced themselves. And from that moment on, they immediately went to work preparing our meal. They operate like clockwork to show the ingredients whole to the diners, and then preparing them, and serving them. Soon as the one dish was completed by all the diners, the next round came shortly after. Over 20+ dishes, there was very little wait time in between each. Each time a dish was served, a hostess was there to describe the dish and provided tips on how best to eat it. The food was overall was very good. I thought a few items were very average, most of them were very good, and a select few were truly outstanding. Most of the ingredients are imported from Japan, so I would imagine that it's part of the reason it's so expensive. This is definitely a splurge meal. I think half the diners at our sitting was celebrating a birthday. On the most part, the food is very good, watching the chefs at work is part of the entertainment, and the service is excellent. It's not some place I could afford to go to often, but glad to do it at least this one time.

The service was attentive and personal throughout. When it came to drinks, they first asked what we generally enjoyed rather than immediately pushing specific options. Once we narrowed it down to dry sake, our server kindly brought over several bottles and gave us a detailed explanation of each one before we made our choice. Lunch consisted of around 15 courses, with most served nigiri-style. Everything tasted incredibly fresh, and I loved the thoughtful combinations of flavors and textures throughout the progression. Each piece felt distinct without trying too hard to be complicated. The experience finished beautifully with ice cream and matcha--a simple, elegant ending to a memorable meal. Absolutely worth the drive from Seattle. This wasn't just lunch; the intimate setting, pacing, presentation, and hospitality made the whole experience feel special from beginning to end.
