Jane also speaks Mandarin quite well--this could be a cute place to take your Mandarin-speaking parents if you don't have time to drive allll the way up north. Respect that they're trying hard to bring some of the most classic regional northern Chinese dishes to a wider clientele. \\ dumplings \ pork and napa cabbage \ boiled (猪肉白菜水饺) - love that their menu boasts some pretty classic fillings, including this ultimate classic - the dough was chewy in a way that was clearly made from scratch--the only correct way to do it, of course (says the 东北 northeast Chinese dumpling snob in me) - the filling was pretty much all meat and hardly any napa cabbage, it was overly salted and a little sweet \\ smashed cucumber salad (拍黄瓜) - another classic dish and particularly refreshing in the summer - Jane kindly explained that American cucumbers don't smash as well as Chinese ones, so these are cut into cubes - the vinegar is the game-changer in the dressing as it should be, would've liked more garlic \\ scallion pancake (葱油饼) - the exterior is bubbly which is tasty--i've just never seen a scallion pancake like this - definitely going for the thin crispy sort, but this was almost deep-fried crunchy - texture aside, it has the taste--gluten, oil, scallion, salt. so. yum. Also tried a bite of my friend's Peking noodle--not the 炸酱面 zha jiang mian we were expecting, but still good in it's own way. The noodles had a decent qq (chewiness). Will need to try the braised beef noodle soup next time! It's more Taiwanese than Bejing but curious how they do it. The store itself is very cute. As it is in Dallas, parking can be limited at peak hours. If I'm too lazy to make my own and can't drive up to Plano... Hello Dumpling could suffice. read more

The Peking veg comes with loads of sprouts and green onions. Both not listed on the menu at the restaurant or the website. So frustrating be what I absolutely loathe green onions. Didn't wanna be lame and pick each tiny piece off all through my meal so dumped 90% of it and ate the bland noodles. The spice was nice but even the sauce had a weird flavor. I've tried this place twice and keep being disappointed. Tonight was the last straw Also, the peach dumplings are great but the peach dipping sauce tasted too chemical-like. There is a lot to choose from but this sweet girl at the counter was very helpful making recommendations. I love how they have an outside shed you can sit in. And we both ordered the beef noodle soup which seems to be one of their most popular dishes. The portions of beef that come with the bowl was impressive! The beef was also cooked perfectly and was very tender and juicy. I have to say, one bowl will fill you up! Add on the dumplings and I was at my limit. Their format is quick service. I went to Hello Dumpling after a few years because I wanted to get some soup dumplings for my elderly mother. The employee updated me on the menu and pointed out specials, which was nice. I am vegetarian and excitedly ordered the spicy noodles with tofu, vegetable bao, and soup dumplings. I was looking forward to eating the noodles and giving my mother the soup dumplings. Imagine my horror when I opened the spicy noodles and found chicken in it. Needless to say, that was not going to be eaten. I then opend the soup dunplings expecting to have some soup in there butvit was 6 dumplings that were ladled from the souo. As a result, it was a bit dry after the drive home. I ended up eating a veggie bao and my mother only ate the I side of the dumplings and the spicy noodles ended up in the rubbish. I can't say enough about this experience. From the time we walked in the door until we left, we were leveled up every step of the way. The owner Ms. June accommodated us above and beyond. (Speaking on dishes I had) The Braised beef soup was something else. The beef was for break tender and the soup was flavorful. The Chicken and Mushroom Dumplings were some of the best I've eaten. I been stationed in the Far East, and have had dumplings all over the world. These were in my top two. Freshly made, and perfect dumplings to filling ratio, the texture was spot on, and the flavor never lacking. The Hunan Ribs were fall off the bone tender, and the sauce was very good, we wished we had taken some on the plane with us to have when we got home. The dessert dumplings were the bomb . We would have tried them all, but were too full from the previous courses. The Apple dumpling was my favorite. It brought back some childhood apple pie memories for me as well as others in my party. The peach dumplings were equally great, they tasted like a mini peach cobbler....a scoop of ice cream and I would have had to take a nap where I sat. I only spoke on what I ate however, no one in my part had any complaints. They all raved about their dishes, and can't wait until they visit again. It's a counter order place, but the serving person made sure to let me know if the variety of sauces available and the food was hot, fresh, and really flavorful. I saw this place highlighted on Diners Drive ins and Dives and was so excited for my daughter, who is new to Dallas, to try it. I'm So. Cal. we have many excellent dumpling restaurants so to find one with "great reviews" was promising. We ordered 4 items: the pickled cucumbers, hunan ribs, Shanghai noodles, and pork and cabbage dumplings. The cucumbers were not very pickley and tasted like garlic and sesame oil, the ribs were meh and one note, the noodles were salty almost to the point of inedible, but the worst part were the dumplings.....they were RAW!!!! How is that possible??? Of course by the time the delivery brought my order and I tried everything the restaurant was closed. We are vastly disappointed. Never have we ever received a raw dumpling! Epic FAIL! I highly doubt the show gave the host a raw dumpling. Would love to hear back from management as to how this could have happened. read more

Today was my first time visiting this restaurant and I have to say that I was very disappointed. I usually love Chinese food, especially ANYTHING involving noodles, but this was the first time I was let down. Starting out from when I first arrived, I will say I am super appreciative that the staff wore masks, even though the cooks did not. I was asking about different menu items and I kept being referred to look at the screen, which is great for me to physically see the meal, but I had to ask questions on what was in the dish to decide if I wanted it. I settled on the chicken and mushroom rice dumplings and beef noodle soup. The dumplings were okay, but very bland. The soy sauce was the only flavor but I'm glad the rice was soft. The noodle is what really upset me. The bok choy was almost chewy, and I removed one piece to see if it was the noodle or indeed the bok choy. The noodles were flavorless, and so was the beef and the noodles. I have no idea where the color from the broth came from because it's as if the broth had no salt or seasoning. The chili flakes didn't help either. I told the staff up front that I didn't like my meal, but they gave no reaction to that. They just said they would clean off the table and that was it. They didn't ask for my feedback at all. There was a lady who asked me about my meal, I'm assuming she was the owner; but I hadn't had a chance to try the noodles yet or I would've told her. The staff were huddled at the front talking with each other when I told one of them, who I'm assuming was the lead, that I didn't like what I ordered. I don't assume to get a refund, but I would have appreciated being able to give them feedback, or it would've been nice to try something else as I spent what I would consider to be a lot for one person. The only thing I enjoyed was the peach lemonade. It's great to see there are such great reviews here but I will not be recommending on my end. I felt that I wasn't heard or that my feedback didn't matter. The food LOOKED great and I will still contribute those photos, but I'm incredible saddened because of my experience here. read more

The pan fried pork and cabbage dumplings wasn't bad, but wasn't spectacular either. The peking noodle was also just average. They are dog friendly and have outdoor seating, so that's a plus. Randomly came here after the arboretum. Had low expectations but saw it had good reviews. There's limited good Asian food in actual Dallas (not the suburbs). This place was GREAT!! The beef noodle soup was so good, it had more flavor than the traditional Taiwanese beef noodle soup we've had at places like King Noodle or 88BaoBao and the noodles were obviously hand made. We got the soup dumplings as they were on special that day. They were soupy but the wrapper was a little too thick so it was more doughy than it needed to be but still great. 88BaoBao soup dumplings are a step above this for reference. We got the crispy chicken and it was very good and also got the cold cucumber salad as an appetizer which was great and refreshing.
