My sales representitive was late to two appointments which drove me nuts. Low communication made things difficult. And after speaking with others who have bought vehicles here I feel like I got hosed. They had help with extra keys, setting up bluetooth, and other features in the vehicle. I received none of this. This store claims to be an equal opportunity employer. I worked for them last year for a month. I left a great job that I was fully capable of performing to service advise for them. I worked in a BDC(business development center) at another dealership. I am a former mechanic of more than a decade. I have MS. After me telling the service manager that I have MS, a week later I was fired. They claimed it was my organizational skills as to why I was being let go. Which is crazy because I worked in a very organized office environment for over a year. I filed for unemployment and when they sent me the determination as to my claim, Heller Ford in El Paso Illinois told the state I was bragging I had a list of name of people I wanted to kill! This is the place to go if you want a good car at a fair price within a short time. I had just moved across country and had 1 day before I had to pay for another week on my rental. I had done my research, knew the vehicle I wanted to test drive, and it was all warmed up and waiting for me. The set price was fair, it was so clean you'd never guess it was used, and the salesman, Cory, was very helpful...gave me a ride when I needed one, and a full tank of gas. The financing part was fairly painless...sure, I could have done better if I'd walked in with a pre-approved loan, but not better enough to worry about. No one tried to push undercoating or identity theft protection or life insurance, which I really appreciated. When I found out that I wouldn't be needing to drive all that much and wanted to cancel the extended warranty, they were helpful and did it (as far as I know...haven't gotten confirmation paperwork yet). The CarGurus website combs through online prices at various dealerships in an area and reports whether the offered prices are bad, fair, good, or excellent. Heller had more "excellent deal" ratings than any other dealership in the area. Even if you're not sure what kind of car you want, I feel like you could walk in there and get some good advice and information, even if you ended up buying elsewhere. I love my 2013 Ford Focus Titanium, and I love that I don't get flashbacks to a negative buying experience every time I look at the car. Thanks, Cory! If you could give zero stars I would, the most unprofessional salesman there are. I had heard a few talking while in the waiting area about a sexual harassment case between employees and how bad things were there. Don't recommend going in there if you have kids as it's not very family friendly. One of the salesman was even cursing at a man that bought an undercoat for his truck and was not happy with the final product. We drove about 2 hours for a truck because my son liked the model. We couldn't agree on a price. We did ask for a few extras including a full tank of gas. The salesman said "I am not going to lose a sale over a tank of gas." He took a yellow highlighter and "highlighted" the "full tank of gas." We then agreed to a price. We went to the office to sign the paperwork. The agreement was in front of the employee completing the paperwork. The free tank of gas was still highlighted. After everything was done and we were getting ready to leave the lot, I realized we did not get the gas yet. I spoke with the salesman. "Oh, that was not included in the new price." It was now late and dark outside. We had a 2 hour drive home, had to get up at 5am and now had to stop for gas in an area we were not familiar with. Gas prices were at an all time low. The tank was already half full. It was probably $30 in gas and they could have covered it. I later complained to him again. He told us to drive down for a tank of gas. A 2 hour drive? No thanks! I told him to send a gas gift card as an apology. He said they did not do that. I would think they could figure out a way, since they had made that promise in the first place. We will be buying a new truck within a year. I would have gone here, but not now. I don't like to be lied to. read more

Purchased a used Jeep Wrangler that came with a hard and soft top. When summer came around I went to put the soft top on and it was missing the rear window and bar. I contacted Heller to see if they would provide the parts as that is what I purchased and I was told they would not because that is basically the way they purchased it. They did inform me they would sell me the parts at cost which was over $500. I am not one to argue the point so I will take my future business to another place and inform everyone I can to not shop at Heller Ford. Note: I do not blame the sales agent as I believe the choice not to stand up to their sale came from a manager. read more

My son recently purchased a Truck from Heller Ford In El Paso Illinois. This was his first large investment and financed vehicle. He drove it 10 days total of 300 miles. It had a major failure and Heller is not backing up their product, they feel splitting the cost of a major repair is good enough. He has not only been inconvenienced but completely disserviced. This dealer basically said it would have been too costly to do the type of inspection that would have exposed this problem and feel it is OK to transfer the bad purchases of vehicles they may pick up in some trades to young inexperienced buyers. Buyer Beware, why would i ever go to Heller Ford? Why would anyone? Well no one we know that needs to purchase a car ever will again, and we know a lot of folks. I have given the lowest rating possible to Heller for the following reasons: Customer Service: Very bad. I have been lied to and talked down to by the manager here, as if I need to be coddled. At least I can use professional language and correct grammar in e-mails, unlike the e-mails I have received from this company. Quality of work: Very bad. My car has been to the service center multiple times, and not only are the original problems never actually fixed, but each time when I receive my car back, new problems have arisen. Friendliness: No comment, other than, don't go here unless you want to feel depressed afterwards. Overall Experience: Potentially the worst part of my summer. Price: Everyone I have talked to since getting work done on my car here has told me that their prices are so much more reasonable and I never should have paid this much to get my car worked on. read more

It took talking to the parts manager on multiple occasions, talking to the general manager, and doing follow-up emails of the sequence of events for them to finally issue the refund of $51.95. After finally taking it back, I have a car I didn't really want but had to buy because I had nothing to drive at all. I am still waiting for the Ford emblem to be replaced. Its been over two months. Terrible service. We bought a5 year old focus from them. We left it with them to do the sales inspection and clean it when we bought it and it took them a week to do it. They called us about a month later and told us that they just realized that they screwed up the loan paperwork so we needed to come in a do it again. About a week later before we even made our first payment the battery died so I called them to replace it and of course it wasn't covered under the warranty but since they did the sales inspection I thought they would replace it. Nope I was told the battery is not part of the inspection and so it's as is so I had to pay for it. You would of thought since they screwed up the paperwork they would have made it up with this. We also told them at the time that there was a problem with the transmission but they couldn't get it in to look at it at the time. I just recently got a letter from ford that there is a recall on the transmission but it has a mileage limit. Even thought at the time I first complained about it it was under the limit now it is not and so they won't fix it. I will never buy another car from them again. They have the worst customer service and care and I've bought cars from many other dealers over the years. read more

I recently purchased a used vehicle for my teenage son at Heller in El Paso. I worked with Travis Doubet and he was fantastic. Travis did a really good job of listening to what I needed in a vehicle and carefully made his suggestion of a vehicle. I test drove the car he suggested and was very happy with his recommendation. I took the afternoon to look at some other options and seriously consider the vehicle he recommended. I called him and asked "should we consider this or that vehicle"? For each vehicle he had a very good reason why it was not a good choice for our family. I felt that I could really trust Travis and I felt he was very knowledgeable. He even took steps to help me "sell it" to the teenager who my husband and I thought would balk at the vehicle. We have had the vehicle for 2 weeks now and we are very happy. I feel like we got a good deal on this vehicle. The best part of the experience was definitely working with Travis. He did a great job and I will be recommending him every chance I get. This is our 2nd car that we purchased from him. When you work with Cory, he always has your best interest at heart. He will find out your vehicle needs and then suggest what best fits for you. He works to give you the best price on your new or used car, and if you have a trade, he shows you how they come up with the numbers that are fair to you. At delivery, he has the vehicle all clean and gassed up and takes time with you to go over the new vehicle operation and even setup your cell phones to the radio. If you have a question on the car, you can call or email him and he gets back to you promptly with the solution. Best part is when you are getting your car serviced, he may pop in and see how thing are going with you. Also down the road he will do follow-up emails if you have any questions. First off I was never even given a proper walk around (good for me I probably know more about the vehicle then the salesman did), and the car was on E, so I did not want to drive it very far out of fear I would wind up on the side of the road. They state that they are a "volume" dealer, but I do not agree. They are overpriced, and not willing to work a deal. You either pay too much for their vehicle or you go elsewhere. I suppose that may work for the type of person who is scared to negotiate, but I found the dealer ship to be egotistical and lazy. I was willing to up my offer (I did so a few times), but they refused to budge at all. I Would not recommend them to anyone who is looking for a dealership who will actually work with you to get the vehicle you want. read more

I am from Springfield but drove the 80 miles to Heller to see a specific used vehicle. After much pressure I purchased a new vehicle that they insisted would work for my family. When I got home, it didn't. I returned to Heller the next business day to try to work with them only to hear a deal is a deal and I could trade out of the vehicle but would have to absorb the costs and depreciation of the new vehicle that I drove home and back. Granted I signed the papers but they were still lying on the desk and they could have worked with me but didn't want to set a precedent for the next guy who "bought a blue truck and then decided he wanted a white one". Not the same situation; my family literally doesn't fit. I sure didn't get the same reception when I went back as I did the first night I was there and they were all playing with my baby so I could sign those papers. I feel they took advantage of my not so perfect credit but my credit isn't a reflection of irresponsibility it's because I have adopted 3 cocaine exposed babies and had high medical bills (which I am paying). To top it all off they had me to write postdated checks for my next three paydays because they wanted more money down then I told them I could afford and I have now learned from the Attorney Generals office that postdated checks are illegal. Heller knew it was illegal because when I asked for copies of the checks and the "internal form" that I signed regarding the postdated checks, they refused to provide them.
