Brussel Sprouts, Mussels, Sweet Potato
Chvonne R.

Cute spot and festively decorated for the holidays. Based on recommendations from the host we order the mussels, Brussels sprouts, sweet potato and meatball. 10/10 for both the Brussels sprouts and sweet potato. They hands down have the best Brussel sprouts in the city! The fried artichokes are a nice addition that I've never experienced. The sweet potato was delicious and sauce along with the pecans top tier. The meatball was cold not as exciting as the other items. The mussels are a required taste, lots of herbs and earthy taste. Not something in craving to have again. Overall a great culinary experience and the staff was really nice and attentive. Going back for the Brussels for sure.

It may seem silly to get a burger at a place with many more unique, interesting dishes... but get the burger. The flavor was amazing and I could eat those delicious caramelized onions on every dish ever. The drinks are also delightful and strong, but the prices are a little much. I love this spot and I wouldn't come *too* often for drinks just because of the prices, but it is a great place to treat yourself for a cute girls night.

Steak and eggs with curried potatoes. Fire!

Friendly service, great vibe, excellent playlist and above all, fantastic food. My only suggestion would be to offer better hot sauce, one without sugar or xanthan gum, like Cholula. It was hard to decide between the steak and eggs and the full Irish breakfast......I went with the steak and eggs so I guess I'll have to come back ‍

Helen's is a quaint little restaurant nestled on Main Street in Richmond. They have American style food and are open for brunch on the weekends. During my recent visit, the restaurant was filled with very gaudy Christmas decor. I love the divey look and I get sucked into all of the decorations. My intent was to order biscuits and gravy, but they were sold out so I settled for the corned beef hash. I will say I was not disappointed. It was t your momma's canned corned beef. I loved their version and it was cooked with the right amount of crispiness. I would definitely recommend this divey spot for brunch. I haven't eaten here for dinner yet, but they are on my list.

Vegetable hash

I came here with some friends for brunch and it was delicious!! I got the vegetable hash which had seasonal vegetables, curried potatoes, and toast. I added on some scrambled eggs for an extra $2. All in all it was a delicious meal. I thought the curried potatoes were amazing and such a great idea. The hash had cabbage or Brussel sprouts and carrots, and maybe some peppers. They also put fresh avocado slices on top!! I liked that it was all seasonal veggies for winter making it a tasty and hearty dish. In conclusion, this was an awesome place for vegetarians since they had plenty of plant based / veggie options and you could add eggs to them. My boyfriend got the pancakes and they were delicious. I definitely stole several bites. The other people with us got the shrimp and grits and said they were fantastic. I'll definitely have to come back here for sure to try some other stuff!

Very classy place to drink, the interior of the bar still looks like it was from the 20s, kinda tacky but warm.

Our server was helpful and indulged a few questions we had about the menu. If I remember his name, I'll add it later. The energy here exudes soul food, including the soundtrack playing over the speakers. If you like Michael Jackson, which we do, you'll appreciate the vibe. I tried the bone-in pork chop within Hoppin' Johns (rice and beans), and my partner had the Fried Chicken with macaroni and cheese and mashed potatoes. She said her meal was fantastic, and I tried some of the mac and cheese; it was excellent. My pork chop was much better than the one I tried at the sister location in Short Pump. However, there were so many onions that I spent a lot of time painstakingly sorting those out with my fork. The meal was delicious, but the amount of onions certainly soured my experience. This is our second time here, and while I'm glad I tried the pork chop, I think I'll try something less oniony next time. I recommend Lillie Pearl to anyone who likes a well-curated southern food menu. The new location is beautifully decorated and would provide amazing photo opportunities for anyone planning to have an event here.

Our entrees were equally as tasty. I ordered the salmon and it was done well! My only personal preference would be to swap the green beans for the collards next time--the green beans just weren't cooked quite the way I prefer. That said, everything else was really enjoyable. Overall, a great meal at an equally great price. We were pleasantly surprised to walk out for under $65 without ordering drinks. Definitely felt like a great value, and we'd happily come back!

I got the Shorti Bowl, which is eggs and meat over cheese grits. It was good but I just wanted the cheese grits to commit a little harder to the cheese. The meat itself was good too, although it did feel a bit like a piece of meat had been plopped in the middle rather than everything really coming together as a dish. My husband got the sandwich with basically the same kind of meat, and somehow it was both a LOT of sandwich and not a lot of sandwich at the same time. It looked impressive as a Katz's-esque pile of meat, but once you actually got into it, it was mostly meat, bread and pickles. I kept expecting some sauce or another topping to show up and it just...didn't. Also a little unwieldy to eat, although I guess that's part of the territory when your sandwich is 70% meat. I think Lunch Supper sits in a funny middle ground between classic diner/brunch food and a more modern version of it. Nothing we had was bad, but for some of their more popular dishes I guess I expected a little more oomph if that makes sense (and yes I tried adding hot sauce). I'd still happily come back with friends, especially to sit outside. I just think I'd be coming back more for the vibes vs the food.

Soon after we. Ordered the octopus and mussel appetizers a storm came in and the rain fell pretty hard. Our choices were to run back to the hotel or stay and dine huddled under an umbrella. I have tried it prepared many ways and here it was both tender and flavorful, really done well. Shrimp cocktail is usually pretty basic, but often the simplest dishes demonstrate the most skill. This is truly one of the best I have ever had. The shrimp were plump and flavorful. Their cooking stopped at just the right time leaving a slight bit of translucent hue, but still cooked through. Very nicely done. The salad with home ranch was dressed nicely and the dressing was light. The scallops were cooked well and perhaps my only criticism is that the corn purée was better in concept than execution. I can't say enough about the staff. We were two people on a Sunday night crazy enough to dine in a downpour. The staff never made us feel like they wanted to punch out, embraced us being outside and were creative in waiting on us with umbrellas to keep the food from getting wet. This time around we snacked on the fried halloumi (fried cheese and mint yogurt dip) and Lumpia, taquito-type beef rolls, with sweet and sour dip. I couldn't reach anyone, so I left a voicemail, sent an email, and sent a social media message. After several more calls the next day, I finally reached someone, explained the situation, and was told my reservation was cancelled and I was "all set." The following day, I found a $50 cancellation charge on my credit card. I understand the posted policy is subject to a $25-per-person charge for cancellations less than one day in advance. In my 40 years, including 7 years working in the restaurant industry, I've made plenty of reservations secured with a credit card and have never had an experience like this after speaking directly with a restaurant to cancel. It was extremely misleading to tell me I was "all set" without the restaurant mentioning during that conversation that the $50 fee would still apply. Had I known, I would have tried to find two other people to use the reservation. I raised this with the manager, who gave me no grace given the circumstances. She repeatedly referred to the cancellation policy and told me their staff aren't trained to remind customers about the fee when cancelling a reservation. This was a 5 PM reservation on a Tuesday, right when the restaurant opens... not a weekend, holiday, or peak dinner hour. I made repeated attempts to give notice, and I expected cancelling to be easy and straightforward. Instead, I feel cheated by how the conversation and charge were handled. Future customers should be WARNED that being told your reservation is cancelled and you're "all set" stills means a cancellation fee is coming. BEWARE before making a reservation. I'm asking L'Opossum to refund the full $50 given these circumstances. If they do, I'll gladly update this review to reflect how the issue was resolved.
