I came to Heemo Sushi in a group of 9 to celebrate a birthday. The food was decent (3.5 stars for food), but what pleased me most was our overall experience there. They offer a variety of rolls, sashimi, bento boxes and noodle combos. I opted to get the Salmon Teriyaki Box Special ($16) which came with 4 pieces of California Roll, miso soup, salad and mixed tempura (which was actually one piece of tempura, gyoza, and an eggroll). The teriyaki sauce on the salmon was a bit on the salty side, but I was so hungry I didn't mind so much. I did enjoy their California Rolls which were on the larger side of rolls I typically see for most bento boxes. We also grabbed a couple Monster Rolls ($11.99 each) for the table to share. The rolls were good, but nothing amazing. Considering most of the rolls ranged from $12-14 in price, the rolls aren't something I'd necessarily order as they weren't very filling given the price point so you'd definitely have to order at least a couple rolls per person. We also ordered a few of their ice cream macarons for dessert, but I would pass on them next time and wouldn't recommend them either. The macarons were rock hard as they had to be kept frozen in order to keep the ice cream from melting. As for the ice cream flavors, they were just okay - too subtle and plain for my liking. However, the service was prompt and the staff was friendly and helpful. Towards the end of our meal, the servers turned down all the lights, flashed around some disco type lights and played a fun happy birthday song for one of the people in our party, along with presenting them with a complimentary tempura fried ice cream and light-up cat ears that she got to wear! It was so cute and we really enjoyed the fun atmosphere. Heemo Sushi is located in a strip mall so parking is quite plentiful. The place is not overly large so seating fills up quite quickly though. We came on a Saturday evening at 5:00pm and the restaurant was about 1/4 filled, but by 6:00pm, all the tables were occupied and there was a waitlist to get in so I suggest going early if you're not a fan of waiting like me. read more

The portions are huge! The nigiri slices are awesome! It's enough for 2 bites haha. We tried a bunch and were super full! They have some pretty cool rolls. They are very thick and give a lot of filling. It was nice to have the spicy tuna option instead if the imitation crab. Everyone was also super nice and takes time to explain things. I stopped in here to order a Salmon Skin Salad to go for lunch. This was my first time coming here. 8 hrs later I got all the symptoms associated with severe food poisoning. Note to the kitchen staff: Always remember the old adage: "When in doubt, leave it out". If a cook suspects the fish they've prepped has a strong odor, throw it out and don't take the chance of getting one of your customers extremely ill. I have Crohn's Disease and have been ill now for 5 days. Needless to say I won't be returning but not without a warning to the kitchen staff and customers to ALWAYS check for freshness. Great local sushi restaurant for the neighborhood! The sushi chefs are super friendly. They'll greet you in Japanese when you arrive and say "Thank you" as you leave...even when just picking up takeout which is what I've only done. I haven't dined in and can't speak to how the service is when being served. The sushi rolls are flavorful and fresh. They have a wide variety to choose from. It's a little overwhelming looking at the menu sometimes, but I love having options so I'm not complaining. The restaurant is not that visible unless you live in the neighborhood and drive along Tustin and Katella often. I sometimes forget about this little gem actually. If you do order takeout,be sure to ask for fresh wasabi. Otherwise, you'll just get the ones in the packets like soy sauce that come wrapped inside your napkin and chopsticks. read more

First time trying Heemo Sushi after see a 50% off almost all sushi items on their menu They was a variety of rolls which I like and they all look really fresh. Decided to order online for a to-go order and the wait was about 20 to 25 minutes. Upon arriving at the restaurant the parking lot was near full. There was a wait which I expected just looking at how crowded the parking lot was. You can park over at the mattress store if there is room, but just be careful in case they say something, but since i was a quick in and out; decided to take a chance. Upon entering the front of the restaurant it was really lively and the crowds were having fun. I saw a large group doing sake bombs which looked cool. Even the waiter joined in doing the chant "Sake Bomb" "Sake Bomb", but no drinks of course. The group pounded on the table till their shot feel into the glass of beer and chugged it down as fast as they could when it did. This place is a lively place for a lot of the college aged crowds and even family with kids. Atmosphere was nice, but they were busy. You can see the food being prepped up front, just cranking out rolls after rolls and slicing sashimi one order after another. So if you come here on a busy night, please don't get mad at the wait. This place has good food and great atmosphere. Definitely worth coming back to try new rolls and maybe even try to do one of those sake bombs with a group. read more

Been to many sushi spots. Have to say Heemo is one of the best. I had the miso to start. Nice and warm. Good flavor. Spicy garlic edemame hit the spot. Crunchy and good. Next was the jumbo shrimp tempura. Def hit the spot. And the box special for chicken teriyaki was spot on. Sauce was good. And chicken was good. I absolutely love Heemo Sushi. My favorite go-to rolls are the dragon, Heemo, and crispy rice. I am a sucker for crispy rice and I've struggled to find a good one here in Orange but this is by far my favorite. The sauce on top is delicious and the rice is cooked perfectly. It's crispy but not dry. Their spicy tuna is good and pretty spicy. The dragon roll is just terrific. If you only get one roll I hope it's this one. If you do come I recommend their specialty rolls, although they're pricier it's definitely worth it. The service is also quick and easy. Take-out orders are very efficient here. Their service is friendly, You never feel rushed and they seem to care about every dish that comes out. Was in the area and saw that they had a promotion going on for 50% off sushi and rolls through their online ordering system. The promotion hooked us in and we decided to give Heemo sushi a try. Ordered a shrimp tempera roll with spicy tuna on the inside, spicy tuna roll, tuna roll, and a spider roll. For nigiri, we ordered seared tuna, yellowtail, seared salmon, eel, and albacore. Everything was... ok... My complaints are the following: I could taste all the tiny bones in the eel nigiri which causes me to believe they did not use high quality eel. The color on the yellowtail nigiri was concerning and made the fish look unrecognizable. One of the seared salmon pieces were flipped the wrong way, so it didn't even look like it was seared (tbh this one isn't a big deal, but on top of all the other off things about our order, this was insult to injury). You can hardly taste the albacore because the fish was drenched in sriracha. The promotion makes it a good deal, but I don't think I'd return even if the food was 50% off. read more

The sushi was incredibly appetizing. My wife and I came in at around 7 PM and there were plenty of room for us two. The interior was exactly what you'd expect at a sushi place, so no complaints there. We were immediately seated and were given a checklist to list all of the items we wanted from the menu to give to the server. The menu itself had great amount of options to choose from, and though calamari wasn't listed in the menu, we were still provided the calamari upon request. Special shout out to the Monster roll! I can eat here everyday. The fish is so fresh and they are generous with the soy sauce/ginger/wasabi that they include with the to go sushi order. I think it's a really cute touch when they add the butterfly shaped cucumber to their food. I enjoyed every roll I got. I love the specialty sushi options they offer. I came in to try the AYCE just but they weren't offering it. I guess it's because of COVID. I had to be cheap and order the less expensive items so I wouldn't have a $300 bill. I had the pizza rolls, some other roll, a tuna, spicy tuna, and a salmon skin hand roll. I also had Gyoza. The hand rolls we're really good. The tuna roll had huge cuts of tuna. I really loved the Gyoza. The other two rolls were my least favorite. Hopefully they will have the AYCE soon so I can try the other more expensive rolls. Service was good. They offer hand sanitizer, and seating is limited. One cook however wears his mask under his nose. If I'm in the area I'll give them another try but I'll call first to see if they have AYCE. read more

Heemo Sushi has been our go to for the last several months, the service is pretty good, and the food quality has been great. However, we always ask if Toro is available, and this last time it was. Unfortunately, every cut that they gave us was stringy and chewy. It was the most expensive thing that we purchased, and it was absolutely the worst quality. It also felt like they might know that the quality wasn't that good, as they gave us three extra pieces on the side of the plate. The first time we ordered Toro here, it felt like the cuts truly were from the belly, and they were melt in your mouth delicious. Will give them another try, but will not be ordering Toro again from them. Hopefully that's the only Nigri that isn't great here. The atmosphere is OK, but many of the booths have tears in the upholstery, and the tables have a sticky kind of feeling that makes it seem like they aren't using the right cleaner for the type of material on the tables. read more

It is with great pleasure that I gave this restaurant 5+ start review. I suffer from a shellfish allergy. This is the only sushi place in Orange County that has worked with me and choosing something from the menu that is not a teriyaki bowl. All the waiters, (but specially Tomoko who went above and beyond to help me) including the chefs have been extremely helpful and supportive.
