Had dinner at the brand new Heck's Beachwood location opening weekend. The experience was excellent. The restaurant space has been remodeled beautifully--the acoustics are significantly better than previously. Our server TiAusha "T" was amazing--super knowledgeable--her recommendations were all wonderful. Have eaten at the original Heck's many many times-however this location has a cool -hip feel. The bottom line is -all of our meals were great. To top it off--T-introduced us to the General Manager-Gary--who went out of his way to pick our brains on what they can improve on--we told him that he has a well oiled machine running right now-so there is no tinkering needed. read more

Four of us went to Heck's today (Saturday) for brunch and had a reservation mistakenly for two instead of four and oh my were they frazzled. I have never seen anyone so stressed out by a simple mistake and we didn't care to wait at all. They asked if we could be seated at the bar and we didn't care so we sat at the bar as a party of four. The bartender acted as she had never even glanced at the menu when we asked for suggestions then made a comment on how she was too busy to eat here. My first impression was not great at all and was even pointed out that the bartender was not using a scoop when she was making drinks and instead using her hands. I don't get why everyone here is so overwhelmed by a 11 am opening when other restaurants open earlier. It seemed like it was their first time ever working. Onto the food, I ordered the B.E.L.T sandwich which has egg, bacon, lettuce, tomato, avocado, lemon garlic aioli on grilled sourdough bread. My sandwich very good! I really enjoyed the touch of avocado as it really made the sandwich tasty. My friends got the Ohio City Breakfast and the Champignon Omelette which were good but could have used some salt and pepper but overall good. I'm going to give this restaurant three stars due to the service and craziness that we experienced. According to the bartender it's a bigger menu and busier on Sunday and if that's true, how do you handle Sundays if Saturdays were so struggling?! Came here with a group for dinner on a Saturday night, and the food is solid! The inside is very cute, we were seated in the covered courtyard area which is very instagrammable. We all ended up ordering burgers. I got the Avon burger, and my husband got the Beachwood burger. We each thought our burgers were really good! The ingredients taste fresh, and we each liked the combination of flavors in our burgers. Only thing that would've made the burgers better would be if the buns were a little heartier and could stand up to the insides- each of us thought that the bottom bun got super soggy before we even received our burgers which made them messier than other burgers we've had. We each ended the meal with a milkshake and we split the bread pudding. The bread pudding was very good- sweet, good texture. The milkshakes were good, but probably not worth the price. I got the s'more milkshake and my husband got the brownie milkshake. Mine had a nice texture of Graham cracker crumbs throughout with a toasted marshmallow on top. His was basically like a regular chocolate milkshake- not super exciting. For the price ($7 each), the milkshakes were fine, but not exciting enough to be worth that much for the portion you get. Food overall was very good, and we'd go back for that for sure. What I will say is the service we received left something to be desired. I think it might've just been that our waitress wasn't very good though. She disappeared for long stretches of time, for example after we had all finished our burgers we had a pretty long lull where we waited for her to come back to both refill our water glasses and so that we could order dessert. 3 of us ordered coffee after dinner, and she said she'd be right back with the coffees, but it probably took her about 15 minutes to come back with that, and while we were waiting we could see her sitting at a table on her phone in the other room. Also, when we ordered our desserts, she definitely forgot to put in for the bread pudding until we reminded her after we'd gotten our other dessert item, and my husband had asked for his milkshake to be "extra thick", and she definitely forgot about that also. I was visiting my friend in the Cleveland area and he took me to Heck's after my flight landed. It was surprisingly empty for a Friday night, maybe the thunderstorm kept people away. We received prompt and friendly service. Our server helped give some beer and food recs and also let me taste a beer before ordering. My friend and I shared some perogies to start, a Cleveland staple. I can't remember the last time I had perogies so can't really compare them to anything, but I really enjoyed them. Too many onions for my taste but the flavors were on point. I went with the filet mignon kababs for my meal and was happy with my decision. Tender, flavorful chunks of steak with fresh vegetables. Everything complimented each other well. A delight to the tastebuds. We skipped dessert. Two meals, four beers and an appetizer added up to a sizeable bill, but the freshness, quality, flavor and service was worth it in my opinion. Would have been a lot more in LA. Seems better for groups then dates as the din is loud enough to let you hear ever conversation except that of the person sitting across from you. The online menus & online prices are drastically different than the actual ones. I used menus from Google, their website, and Yelp. I can understand price rising but the $4-$6+ difference between what was listed online vs in person was a bit much. The staff was attentive & friendly, the food tasty, but I don't think worth the price. Was very sad at the portion size of their crème brûlée. It barely filled the tapered ramekin as if they wanted you to think you were getting more then you were. Wouldn't recommend for a first date if you go around normal meal times but it was very nice to see cooking shows on the televisions rather then some kind of sports. I probably won't be returning as most of the menu items that perked my interests no longer seem to be offered, enjoying a conversation with my dining companion(s) is important to me, and I'm not a fan of establishments that use optical illusions in their platings to make portions look bigger then they actually are. read more

Went to Heck's with some colleagues on their first visit to Cleveland. At the recommendation of a friend, we went for dinner on a rainy Wednesday evening. Through the entire meal the wait staff were incredibly kind and attentive! I ordered a burger off their very extensive burger menu. It had bacon and a fried egg and honestly was a very solid burger. Fries accompanying were crispy and yummy. Good rainy day comfort food. I also got a side of the crispy brussels sprouts. These were truly amazing. Simple and delicious, with an amazing brown crunch. The restaurant was dim so my photo of them is blurry otherwise I would have shared. Friends seemed happy with their food; one had salmon which they enjoyed. Another raved about the mushroom ravioli. Third said their pasta (pictured) was good. While the food and service here are great (this is what my 4 stars are for) the experience itself is sorta meh. Just like a tinder date where you expect great things but then they look nothing like their photos, the decor of Heck's was overall meh. A cool looking spiral staircase online covered in plants was lackluster in person, and the decor of the second dining room was again meh. The food on the plate (pictured) even looks sorta meh. Really unique and super cute space! Loved the drinks! I got a barbed shrub and a luscious lemonade and both were delicious! The bartender was very nice and actually gave me a drink on the house we LOVE that for me. Heres where it went a little awry lol. We came for burgers as they are supposed to be some of the best! We both ordered heckburgers with cheddar- my boyfriend got cheddar bacon and potato sticks and I got cheddar grilled onions mushrooms and bacon. Both burgers came with swiss- my boyfriends had my mushrooms on it- none on mine and my onions were raw not grilled :( We didn't say anything as they took a while to come out we were hungry and they were still tasty, just not what we wanted. There were a ton of options on the menu that I wanted to try but I ended up going for the hot fire burger, which isn't as spicy as it may sound! The jalapeño bacon jam adds a layer of complexity that elevates a regular old burger and is nicely complemented by the choice of a pretzel bun. This is the perfect brunch/lunch spot for anyone looking to explore Ohio City! I went with my husband and parents on a Saturday afternoon (around 2 pm) and we were able to get a table without a reservation - though I would guess it is much busier towards the traditional brunch times. The interior has such a cool vibe and look; it reminded me a little bit of New Orleans with the staircase and stone and greenery/vines look. The food was great and I really liked their menu which made it hard to pick an entree, but thankfully my family all got different meals so I could sample from their plates too! I got the onion soup (so delicious I completely forgot to take a photo!) and the almond and apricot salad with tuna on top - both were tasty but the soup was the clear winner. My mom got the mushroom ravioli which was excellent; the ravioli was made by Ohio City Pasta which always delivers and had the perfect consistency, the mushrooms were garlicky and well-prepared, and the goat cheese/creamy sauce made the whole dish shine. My husband got the salmon which had the tastiest miso sauce on top and was cooked so that it was crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. I have so much to say about Heck's Café! The atmosphere is so cute with their staircase of plants and welcoming environment; it was the perfect place to get some brunch and study. I think I could write the most about the AM Fries, because holy crap it might be the best thing I've eaten. The buffalo sauce is not overwhelming neither is the blue cheese queso (& I usually hate blue cheese), the eggs tie it all together with the perfect bite.
