I got introduced to malatang at one of the restaurants in Cupertino. Though I struggled picking my ingredients due to lack of names in English, I still fell in love with the concept and the cuisine itself. Since that initial foray, I have visited four or five malatang restaurants. Compared to other places, some things that stood out- 1. Veggie options are limited. 2. Thankfully all ingredients also have English labels though they are misplaced in some places. 3. Noodle options are plenty here. In addition to dry cakes they also have fresh noodles. 4. The Fried tofu and baby corn were my favorites. 5. They have chicken! Only malatang restaurant that seems to serve it. Makes a huge difference for people like me who don't eat other meats. I liked the tom yum soup flavor I got. I was skeptical about the doneness of the chicken as it came out pretty quickly but the chicken seemed to have been cooked through. It didn't have any funky taste or smell as well. Ambiance is nice, though they have a lot of plastic greenery, it still evoked a pleasant and calm feeling. Service was very friendly. read more

Tried this new place and overall it was good. The place was clean. Luckily the place had open seating so we sat right away. We took awhile to look at the menu online. I didn't see any free WiFi when I was there. I had to flag down a server to ask a question about the menu. Everything has a spicy picture, but you can request online and with them no spice. Once we got through and placed the order, the service was quick for the food to arrive. We tried a bunch of different skewers between meats and seafood and a mushroom skewer. To me I think they all had the same seasonings so after awhile it was difficult to tell the difference between eating pork or beef since they way they cut and skewer are exactly the same. This our second time here and we liked even more once we kind of understood all the options. This is a great place, especially if you are wanting a nice mix of small dishes to match your level of hunger. Like if you are on GLP-1 and you want something but not too much, you can assemble a variety of different tastes but just enough food. I had a variety of beef, shrimp, chicken wings, green bean skewers which can be ordered in small quantities and range from $2 to $5 and are very tasty, And if are not on GLP-1 and are really hungry, they have full dishes. Skewers heaven! They have a variety of skewer selection and other dishes. I like that they are flavorful but not heavy on the sauces and not burnt char. It tastes clean and the meats they used are decent quality. They do love garlic. A lot of the items we ordered have garlic on them. The service was fast. We got our food at a decent wait time. The staff was also on top of things - bringing the food, refilling drinks, and taking out empty plates. The place is also open late until 11:30 so it's a good place to hangout with friends after 9pm. I have been craving BBQ skewers since we haven't had it in a while. After doing an online search we decided to check out the new spot Hearth BBQ. We arrived on a Sunday early evening for dinner. Hearth BBQ is located in a nice busy Asian plaza in San Jose off De Anza Blvd and close to the 85 freeway exit. Parking is accessible in the large parking lot outside. The Chinese BBQ restaurant has nice simple modern decor. There are plenty of tables and booths for dining for both small and big groups. I find the atmosphere to be welcoming and bustling. You can order your food using the QR code. A tip I suggest is to ask the server if they received your order as the system might not get it. We ordered lamb skewers, signature beef skewers, grilled chicken heart, signature grilled shrimp, grilled green beans, sizzling whole large squid, white rice, grilled chicken skin, a bottle of soju and a draft beer. Everything was delicious. My favorites were the lamb skewers, beef skewers, and the large squid. The meat was tender and flavorful. The large squid was seasoned well and had big portions. Overall we enjoyed our experience at Hearth BBQ. The staff were nice and accommodating. The vibe was family friendly and breezy. I came here with two friends for dinner on a Saturday evening. We were seated immediately at 6:30 PM, and noticed more groups come in around 7. We ordered with our stomachs, so ended up getting the following skewers: chicken heart, chicken skin, chicken cartilage, chicken gizzard, beef tendon, beef, pork belly, and lamb. We also got an order of ham trotter, grilled squid, two orders of the cucumber, two apple/kale juice, and a strawberry boba. As mentioned, the food is all seasoned the same so taste doesn't very much. I'm weak to spicy foods and didn't find the food spicy at all but flavorful. The apple/kale juice is good and with the cucumbers are a good deviation from the flavor of the meats. The meats were all good. The ham trotter I'd recommend a second glove (it comes with one) or a fork and a knife. Service was attentive and good, and the restaurant was clean and well organized. The only issue we ran into was that the griddle thing they put the skewers on was not hot even with both candles going, so I felt like I was eating warm skewers most of the time. We have our favorite, not to be named here but we had to try Heart since it's new. There's a promotion going on as well since it's a grand opening. We were waiting in the area at arrived at 5:05pm. and there were already 5 other parties ahead of us. People are already aware and ready, good signs. We waited only a few minutes before being seated. The restaurant is very clean, the tables are spread out, there's some cool decorations around the entire room. The skewers here are top notch, excellent quality of meats & great flavor. The meat was very tender, seasoned well and tasted amazing. I believe we tried all the beef/chicken selections and they did not disappoint. The waitress warned us they're spicy, but they weren't.
