They told me it would be $77 on phone and when I checked out it was $125.50 plus my $15 tip. $125??? More expensive than what I was paying at Gene Juarez. They had the nerve to charge me an extra $48 for the additional color. Called them when I got home to speak to Nicole and they wouldn't put me through. I wanted her to know that I won't be returning and not because of her service. She was great. A new hairdresser should always hear feedback. She was exactly what I was looking for in colorist. If anyone asks me for a salon recommendation, I always suggest Headlines without any hesitation. I have been a customer for over four years and have since moved out of the area but still make the drive for my regular cut and color. The front desk staff is wonderful and welcome you the minute you walk in the door. They have coat/bag service and offer a variety of tasty beverages while you wait for your stylist. You can always count on a call from them the day before your appointment to confirm the time, service and stylist. If you are new to the salon, they also have great recommendations for who you should see based on your criteria (service, price, etc) - you just have to ask! I have had many 'looks' since I began visiting Headlines. I came in with box dyed black hair and Jared went out of his way to correct my color and bring me to a bright, blonde. He was very straight forward with the process and what it would cost from our initial consultation. His calendar fills up quickly so definitely make an appointment in advance! Recently, Marielle has taken over the reigns on my cut and coloring. She is incredible! Not only is she a master of shaping and styling, she has great tv and book recommendations. I've been told many times that it can be done... I've been disappointed and felt like I've wasted money each time. When I say Christine knows her stuff, I mean she knows her stuff. I have the darkest possible black asian/hispanic hair out there. Christine not only did a fantastic job getting my hair to the color I've wanted it for years, she also taught me a lot about how my hair lifts and the stages we had to go through to get it where I wanted it in a healthy way. I am arguably the worlds most lazy person when it comes to hair maintenance, and yet I have some incredibly lush beautiful purple hair and a clean sidecut all thanks to BRIAUNA. When I first started seeing BRIAUNA back in June 2018, she took my ratty, dry, multicolored hair and transformed it in the span of a few hours. I honestly probably had 6 different colors in it due to box dye jobs at home gone wrong, hadn't had it cut in a year, and it was so dry and brittle that if you ran a brush through it large clumps would come out. Now, my hair is soft, I can run my fingers through it, it has that rich deep purple color that I love, and my sidecut always looks fresh. BRIAUNA is a miracle worker. I love how she executes exactly what I am envisioning even if I don't know how to articulate it, she comes up with creative solutions to get me what I want - mixing colors to get exactly the hue I'm going for, for example - and she has given me tools to keep my hair healthy with little effort (washing with cold water, using a tonic daily). She is so friendly, enthusiastic, and easy to deal with. She helps me be a better version of myself. I don't plan on seeing anyone else. read more

Went to this salon recommended by a friend. Experience from start to finish was horrible and value is atrocious. Was quoted $40 for a men's haircut over the phone, but was told $45 in store. By no means do I think this price is justifiable, however, I was in town and only needed a haircut once. I was greeted by the front desk woman but she was rude and snappy. My stylist saw me promptly, but I don't think she had seen a glimpse of training in her life. Quite possibly one of the worst haircuts I've received, value aside. She kinked my ear multiple times because she was holding the razor with one hand and shaking. Didn't put any protection around my neck and left the back of the canvas wide open for all the hair to go down my dress shirt. When checking out once again the receptionist was snappy when I mentioned the price I was originally quoted. Bear in mind, my stylist had to reschedule twice, the least they could do is honor the original price. I'm not one to post negative reviews, or bad mouth individuals. As a customer of many years I am in tears as my daughter's prom night has been ruined. She missed an important class to go have her hair done, only to be kept waiting for over half an hour. Her stylist's previous client had requested a service that was going to take longer. If you know you have someone booked at 4:00 you say NO. So she left in tears without getting her hair done. What a nightmare. Zero stars. I booked a deep condition because I have a bleach-and-tone, previously red, previously blonde... its incurred a lot of damage over the last two years and I'm trying to grow it out. As soon as I sit down in the chair my stylist says, "You don't need a deep condition, you need a toner." We talked about my hair and the fact that I had just toned it two days prior and I was really happy with my golden blonde hair and what I really, really needed was a deep condition. So what does she do? A toner. A toner which came out a little murky and greenish. Then she spends about an hour blowdrying my hair only to then flatiron it. The flatiron made my hair feel crunchy and damaged, and then she tried to pass it off on me, because I wouldn't let her trim off the damage she caused in the first place. She got really defensive and frankly, RUDE. I signed up for Yelp just so that I could write a bad review about my experience coming in for a deep condition and leaving with my hair ten times worse then it was when I came in. I am in an absolute state of panic and shock. I called and booked last Thursday. They asked me what I needed done. I told them I had dark hair and light roots growing in so I needed to go lighter/have highlights put in. The receptionist was very friendly and stated that she wanted me to see the 'best stylist' they had, "Brae," the next day. It seemed like it was meant to be, as I had called last minute and only had Friday off. I arrived on Friday and met Brae, sat down and she asked what I wanted done. I showed her pictures on Pinterest of the different shades of highlights I would be ok with, also considering the current color shade I had. I knew in the end I'd be having just highlights done, but didn't want anything ombre or bayalage. I didn't want to dye my roots because I liked the color that was coming in. She first told me I needed to have my roots dyed darker for consistent color. I told her I didn't care about the 'line' of root growth and that highlights would soften the appearance this first round of highlights. She said OK awesome let's get started. She used the backcomb method to avoid my roots. Ouch. She told me how long she'd been doing hair and how she is the owner of the salon so I took a leap of faith and let her continue although I didn't feel right about the situation. She did a partial foil of highlights. She told me I didn't need a trim when I asked her to cut my hair, and even though I hadn't had one in over 3 months. I spent over $300 dollars and wasn't completely happy but didn't want to be rude. I went outside, took a selfie and burst into tears. My hair is not highlighted. She put yellow streaks in my hair. I have been so uncomfortable the past two days- two of my best friends who are stylists in other states told me to call and ask for it to be fixed. I finally did call today, just two days later, when, even after using the thermal protection, etc etc, my hair appeared to have a 'fried' texture to it with severely damaged ends. Brae was unavailable and they told me they would be happy to get me in on Tuesday to fix my hair because they have a 2 week fix policy. I was waiting for a call back and still not feeling great about the situation and when they did called back, it was someone named Jared, a manager. He prefaced the conversation by telling me that they would not give me a refund OR fix my hair because I had what was deemed 'corrective color.' Highlights are NOT corrective color. My hair was FINE the way it was, I just had root growth. Doing a partial foil is NOT corrective color. He then told me that Brae would be calling me directly to work something out but not to expect any money back or to get anything done without paying. I am shocked, upset and mortified that I am stuck now with damaged, two toned chunky colored hair. I do not want these people to ever touch my hair again and I am ashamed of myself for giving them a second chance at color services. (Had visited in May and wasn't impressed but liked that they had Bumble & Bumble product and were not a major chain.) I checked the pricing list and am really confused how a partial highlight ran me $170. I didn't even get a cut or style at the end. I'm so incredibly disappointed and I want my money back. read more

Not according to the "stylist" Rachel - I am not sure she knows ANYTHING about how to style hair. First off - Rachel didn't want to even style my hair.. although that's what I had scheduled to have done. My hair was dried and she said I was done.. how's that? When I had to ask that she styled it, she acted like it was a huge inconvenience to ask another stylist to borrow their (extremely crappy) flat iron. I think this may have been the first time she ever held one in her hands. Upon showing EXTREME inept in using the flat iron on me, she said my hair would work well with a curling wand instead.. well, if I'm paying for a style then how about you go get that wand, Rachel?? But nope. FAIL FAIL FAIL. My hair felt gritty and gross, had CRIMP lines and was horribly unevenly jacked up. I couldn't even call it "styled"... in fact it was SO bad, I asked her to hand me the iron to try to FIX IT MYSELF!! WTF seriously?? I had to go home and attempt to fix the jacked up crimp lines in hair that had a nasty crap ton of product in it. My 2nd grader would have done a better job. Best believe this is the first time I have NOT tipped for what one may call a "service". I refuse to tip when you show NO skill and NO regard. read more

I am so upset with the haircut I received here. Ive been in before and notice that every single time I come the person I saw before no longer seems to work there. I've had fine haircuts until now, but this last one was horrible. I cannot look in the mirror without wanting to cry it is so terrible. The girl who did my hair was clearly brand new. They didn't even ask if I was ok with having a new person do my hair. I don't even want to go back to get it fixed because I don't trust them to do a good job. The two girls seemed to bothered by my walking in to even give the very basic courtesy of saying good morning (i should have seen this as a sign to walk away) . I made an appointment for 2:15 pm, and "the stylist" took me in at 2:30 (ups, sorry for the delay) Than their "stylist" had no clue how to trim my beard and after making a few passes with her trimer and clippers decided it was done. I think not! I asked her to go back over places where the hair was not trimmed. She was reluctant and frustrated and even suggested that my hair was thicker in places, which was completely BS. My beard has great consistency and i have had it trimmed for years. If you are not able to perform the service correctly, do not take the client. Christine is a hair magician. I've been going to Headlines for a little over a year and really couldn't be happier. When I first started going to Christine, my hair was really dry, frizzy, brittle, and damaged, despite the expensive products I was using and the fact that I had drastically cut down on shampooing and processing my hair in recent years. She immediately identified that the products I was using weren't working with my hair type and made recommendations on other things I could try. Even though the products I had been using are sold at Headlines, and it would've been easy to just let me keep damaging my hair, she really took the time to help me develop a new regiment, and my hair has never looked better or been healthier. She also has an incredible memory and is able to recall every product we've tried, every color she's used, and every type of cut she's done on me, so she's basically an encyclopedia of my hair now, which is so helpful when we're discussing new looks and products. Aside from her excellent skills, she's also just an absolutely fantastic person--funny, straightforward, friendly and honest. Highly recommend Christine, for color, cut and styling. I would give this salon 5 stars if it weren't for the horrible -- I repeat, HORRIBLE -- reception staff. Those people seriously have the IQ of a potato. Anyway, Young is amazing. She gives incredible haircuts and is very honest about what will work for you. After talking with her more, I've learned that she has taken hair-cutting classes all over the world, and teaches them as well. AND her cuts are only $55 for women! All of my friends go to her, and my family drives 4 hours just to see her. Loretta is also great. She has never cut my hair personally, but her station is next to Young's and I always see her cutting other people's hair while I get mine done. Her clients always look fantastic. She has cut some of my friends' hair though, when Young has been booked up, and their hair has been gorgeous every single time. I would recommend her as well. read more

I have been searching for a great stylist for my curly hair since moving to Seattle in 2006, and am thrilled my search has ended at Headlines Salon. Bill Brewer has given me 4 amazing haircuts in a row so far, and I'm looking forward to my next cut with him next week! I have a low-maintenance morning routine, and Bill always cuts my hair in a way that utilizes the best aspects of its natural shape and texture. I am not a "product person" either, but I did buy two products he suggested after my first cut, and now I'm hooked on them! I feel I should mention that a lot of trust is required with Bill. He prefers to look at your hair, give his opinion, and cut it the way HE thinks will work best. Well -- I've never been disappointed! I swear he knows how my hair will behave with a cut better than I do. And he always adds a cute and sexy finishing touch to the cut, like a little asymmetry. I love my hair!! Brae is a great person to see for all hair types. I happen to have short naturally curly hair and she manages to "tame the beast" so I love it! My color is always how I want it and we try new things once in awhile to spice it up. I'm so thankful for her ability to get me in and for hearing what I want and delivering. I had been to this salon before, probably seeing 4 different stylists, all solid. Bill in particular gave me wonderful custom color and a hair cut I have yet to find someone who can replicate it. Unfortunately, I decided coloring is too expensive for me and having moved away, I had not visited Headlines for over a year when I walked in a few months ago. Mandy is awesome. She really listens, makes suggestions, and does really solid work. I ended up getting a deep condition, cut and style that turned my hair silky smooth. She also cut my bangs for the first time in years with a cute sweep bang that I loved. Before my wedding I wanted my hair highlighted and didn't want to spend a lot on it. I had a friend of a friend do my hair and yeeah, it didn't come out well. I lived with the chunky highlights for a while and decided to go to Headlines to fix it. Mandy knew exactly what to do, I wish I had gone to her to begin with. She did a partial foil throughout my hair, blending it in to the now grown out chunky ones, and we decided on a toner on top to further blend everything in. It really looked nice. The first time I went to Headlines Salon, I was a little unsure what to expect - I have dark brown hair and I wanted to get it bleached blonde (I was very nervous). I scheduled an appointment with Veronica (she had the most affordable prices) and asked for her to bleach and cut my hair. First and foremost, this lovely lady sat me down and informed me that I can't just bleach my dark hair to platinum blonde in one sitting. Luckily for me (who knows nothing about dying hair), Veronica gave me the best advice; semi-bleach (ombre-age she called it), toner, and a styled hair cut. No lie - this was hands down the best coloring and haircut I've ever gotten. She somehow magically blended my dark hair with light blond tones and cut my bangs perfectly (I'm a freak about my bangs and I've never walked away so happy). The best part about Veronica's dye/style jobs - as your hair grows the haircut gets better. She has made a customer for life. BLONDES BEWARE: After reading the rest of the reviews, I was surprised to see that I wasn't the only one appalled with the wrongful use of toner. Although, my experience happened two years ago, I am still angry about it today. So here goes... My stylist that day had also suggested that I added a little toner to my hair to get rid of any dullness. I have blonde hair and had originally came in to get some highlights throughout and a root-touch up. She insisted that a little toner was all I needed. When she was done, my hair was completely grey. I'm not talking about a slight hint of grey, I'm talking old man grey hair. She assured me that it would come out the next day. I made the mistake of being too nice to her, tipping her and leaving the salon. Well, it did not come out and I had my friend's birthday party the next evening. Like a trooper, I made it out, but still have pictures to prove my what happened with my hair disaster. I went back to the salon on the third day, and a nice older woman did my hair. They did it for free, but I kept thinking how I wish I would have never tipped the first stylist. I made sure to make eye contact with the first stylist before I got my hair redone so she could see the disaster she had done to me. She was completely rude and did not even bother to apologize. There I was, shopping for summer tops in H&M, when a glance in one of their dressing room 3-way mirrors shocked me. The back of my hair looked like a complete rat's nest. Granted, I had been rushed that morning and hadn't applied any product or spent any time styling...but that is how every single day is for me. I suppose I never paid too much attention, being a full-time student and all, but suddenly, I was completely embarrassed that I had been sporting that bed-head-and-not-in-a-good-way look for the past few months. You could call this a hair emergency. Exactly 12 minutes later I was being lead to the back of Headlines by Britney. She washed and dried, then proceeded to cut and layer my hair to perfection, followed by a blow-dry and style. My hair feels like spun silk..or something. The cut is adorable, nice shoulder-length layers. We chatted amicably about our fiances and weekend plans, and by the end of the session I felt glorious. "That woman is a saint" is what I believe I texted to my mother. She gave me handfuls and handfuls of free samples of the products she used to soften and smooth my hair, and the cost was only $35 for the cut (5 $ off since it was my first visit!). The service by everyone at Headlines was great, and I would highly recommend using this salon for hair styling and any special occasion. Since Jenna left, I tried a different stylist with less than desirable results. My layers were choppy and and not blended and even though I told her that I parted my hair a certain way, my face framing layers were uneven. I didn't notice this until I was getting my hair styled for a wedding a week later. She seemed like she was trying to be friendly but I felt fairly uncomfortable and awkward. After this experience, I don't think I will be coming back since prices are high and Jenna is gone. Plus, I only get my hair cut about four or five times a year and I would prefer it not to be an awkward experience. read more

I went into Headlines because I DESPERATELY needed a haircut. I moved here from Ohio a year ago and was too scared to find a new hairdresser. However, their discount for new customers drew me in, and a few of my friends have been pleased with their results. I just did a walk-in, and they got me in a chair within 5 minutes. Amelia did a great job asking me what I wanted as far as layers, bangs, part, etc. Luckily I'm not super picky. I'll be honest, I didn't love the cut when I left the chair. I probably got at least 3 inches cut off and I wasn't sure how to react to my new, shorter hair. But after a few days, when the cut became more natural, I loved it. I think it cost me around $30 or $35 for the cut. A little pricey compared to the $20 I'm used to paying, but I was pleased with my experience and will probably end up going back. read more

I've been to three or four different people here (for a mens cut) over the past year and got one solid haircut (Stephanie), a couple that were passable, and one that was just awful. The awful one i wore for a couple weeks and then was informed, embarrassingly, that the back was very crooked. It also just wasn't laying down right/the shaping seemed all wrong. I called to ask for a quick touch up, but i was just out of their 2 week free touch up window, and the only option was to pay full price ($40-50!!) for a full cut.
