    Cut and color!
    Pratima M.

A clean, professional salon located in U Village -- it was super easy to schedule an appointment via phone and the folks at the front desk were really sweet when checking in. The pricing is fairly reasonable, but maybe a bit of a splurge. That being said, they did a really nice job! I had Amari do a cut and color, specifically highlights. I had some old highlights that had grown out and she was able to color-match so the old and new colors blended together well. She was also super patient with me as I figured out which hair length made the most sense and I was really happy with the final product. Overall, a great experience from start to finish and I would totally see myself coming back here -- was recommended by my roommate who's had similarly good experiences here too!

Before and after where you can see I never had layers on my hair, it was thicker and same length.

I hope someone will be saved from a traumatized hair experience by reading this review. I went to the salon for a solid balayage, my hair is Asian natural black but I have been getting bleach and balayage for years (obviously not from this place). Had my hair done by stylist named Chester. Before the session: my hair was straight, same length, I have never had layers since my hair is already thin. My top was black since I last had my hair done in mid January. The process took 3 hours. After the session: the top I had it done, I lost half of the ends, it just fell off, there is now layers on my hair. The bleach was done terribly so it caused breakage and my hair was just gone. My hair is now unevenly colored, brittle and super dry. I went to the salon to speak to the owner, she and her manager Jared insisted my hair is not damaged and blamed it on growing out unevenly?!! I was really upset since my wedding is literally next month and I am now having to live with this damaged hair, they offered to refund me 50% but I requested full refund since I should not have to pay for them for damaging my hair. They didnt agree to it so now I am filing complaint with BBB, small court claim, the University Village business management.

Go see Christine!! I came in with long, thin, damaged brown hair. I wanted to lighten it up a little, get rid of the reddish tint, and cut off a decent amount. She did an amazing job by walking me through what she was doing, as well as checking in on how I was doing. She gave me tips for my finer hair, which I really appreciated. Also, not to mention she's cool. :) So down to earth and fun to chat with. Love her!

I'm gonna be very blunt here: CHRISTINE SAVED MY HAIR My last stylist completely ruined the whole balayage thing for me. Almost all of my friends have told me "wow wtf happened to ur hair" and let's just leave it at that. Anyway, Christine went in and saved the day. She blended in my all discontinuous roots and gave my hair a huge makeover. The pictures will tell the transformation better so I'm just gonna shut up now. The experience was amazing. I'm not a very talkative person in general and I hate when hair stylist keeps talking to you regardless how you clearly have no interest in carry on a conversation. Christine was very respective of my personal preference in the whole 4 hrs of hairstyling. However, she was indeed very friendly. And she'll tell you what she's doing every step of the way. If your last stylist ruined your hair too, look no further, Christine is right here. The salon itself - friendly staffs, good vibe, cute decors. Strongly recommend.

Went here for my first haircut in two years. Christine was very gentle with my hair! She knew that I did not usually go in for trims, and tailored my bob towards my style. Cutting off 18 inches of hair to donate has never been easier. She made sure she got to cut as much off as possible in one swoop, allowing me to donate the fullest amount. The workers up front were also very sweet - offered me a bag to hold my hair. Other stylists were as excited, if not more, to watch my hair transformation. Overall amazing job by the whole salon - excited to come back next time!

Before pic: This is what I came in with.

She is truly amazing, and I'm so happy with her work that I'm willingly making the hour drive to see her now that she's no longer in Seattle. I originally came to her to fix a bad haircut, and from the first appointment she was thoughtful, precise, and focused on getting my hair healthy and flattering again. Then one day, almost like magic, she gave me the layered haircut I didn't even realize I'd been missing--perfect shape, movement, and exactly right for me. You know a cut is good when a stranger compliments it, and that's exactly what happened. If you've been looking for someone who really understands hair and consistently delivers, Veronica is it.

The customer service wasn't great. I booked an appointment which Veronica cancelled because of a…read moreconflict and I had to reschedule. This is not a problem, but it was an error on her part yet she made me feel like I was the inconvenience. No apology. In person service was also pretty standoffish. The business practice was also was not good. I was going from a long cut to a short cut, have barely wavy hair, and style it straight (have gone short before). She chopped off the majority length of my hair before starting the actual cut, and cut it wet and styled it straight. My hair is straight when wet so there aren't waves to manage and when blow dried it's straight which is what we did. To anyone that is not aware, this is not a traditional curly cut. And common sense might tell you it's not even a non-traditional curly cut. She still charged me for a long haircut and a curly cut. I've tried a real curly haircut before (and determined it wasn't what I like for my hair) and this was not at all the same. I don't know why or how she is classifying this service as a curly cut service. I don't even have thick or coarse enough hair to justify higher pricing. The different prices are on the website but it was unclear that she charges based on where your hair starts even if you don't want an actual long haircut or curly cut. I certainly didn't book that and she didn't communicate otherwise at any point before payment. I could have simply chopped off my own length before going in because that's what she did, and that's what I suggest you do if you still book with her. Honestly, it seemed tacky to me. And unfortunately, the cut itself was terrible. I've had my hair this length before so it's not that, it was just done so badly. She put in a good amount of product and did a lot of blow drying to shape it into something that looked ok in the salon, but it really fell apart after the first wash. I was told it looked like "Dora the Explorer hair" so if that's what you want, this is the place. It's fairly dreadful but at least I didn't get bangs or anything so I can just let it grow out. I preferred to just grow it out rather than have someone that did a bad job with poor customer service try and "fix" it. This was a while back and I posted it originally on google, where the review magically can't be found anymore. Also this is a repost here because somehow the business flagged it and had it taken down.

The shop sells several different kinds, but I was interested in the halo specifically since they seemed easy to put in and take out, especially if I want to wear them more than just for my wedding. When I came in for a consultation, crew went over the halo and helped me choose the color and length. I came back the week after to have my hair color/matched and halo "fitted," or cut. I chose to get a really long length (~10 longer than my actual hair), so it was harder to blend the hair to look natural and curling is a must. But I think Oscar did an excellent job. (My wedding hair and makeup artist made it look phenomenal) It had been over 10 years since I've dyed my hair, so the coloring was a little off at my roots, but they quickly fit me a few days later to fix it. I really respect a business/their employees who go out of their way to make sure customers are happy. I'd say the only downside is parking, but it's definitely manageable. (I'd recommend parking in one of the many Amazon garages if you can't find street parking.) 100% recommend Mermaid Hair

Also, I asked her SO many questions about curly hair, products, my hair type etc. and she was very helpful and had great recommendations. As far as this service, it is so worth it and feels luxurious. Especially if you are new to curly hair, don't know how to style it, or have never had a curly cut before (this was my first one). You start with cutting your hair (dry of course), then washing, treatment, wet styling, diffusing, and then additional cutting as needed once it's dry and styled and you can see how everything lays. It was so relaxing to sit under the bowl diffuser (they give you free beverages too), and she walks you through exactly how she's wet styling your hair as you go. Lol, I got them done last May and still have at least half a head of these k-tips in to this day. Michelle's salon is a little interesting to get to as she's located within a plaza full of other businesses, but the area is nice and close to the train if you need. Michelle is super sweet and super responsive! She knows her stuff, has a ton of experience, and worked so fast, I think she put in like 20-40+ tips (can't remember but I still have a lot left and have lost 10+ so far, so I'm assuming she put in closer to 40?), and she completed the hair in less than an hour with styling. She was so pleasant to get to know, and I look forward to visiting her salon again in the future. As for the tips, I have started manually removing the super tangled ones, and some others have fallen on their own, which I don't mind. The K-tips have grown with my hair and are now below my waist, hitting my hips, they still look amazing almost like the day she put them in. I was pretty upset with how expensive these were, but since they were for my wedding, I coughed up the money and have since gotten double or triple my money's worth. I will say that where some of the tips have fallen off, they damaged my hair, but I'm good with that since I'll be cutting my hair after the rest of the tips fall out. I am so, so happy with my extensions from Michelle! In total, I paid: 1,150 + 100 + tip, which turned out to be ~1,238.70, but I got the "Mac Daddy" longest bundles she had, 22 inches, I believe. I have not treated them very well, and they have somehow still held. I also have dyed them probably more than 10 times with the rest of my hair with no issues. The quality of her hair extensions is amazing! Unless you tell someone, they probably won't know you have extensions. Next time I have another special occasion, and she's available, I'm definitely booking again with Michelle. For a first-time experience with K-tip extensions, I could not have gone with anyone better. FYI--if it's your first time getting hair extensions, know it can be painful to get used to since the extensions weigh down your natural hair, and as they fall out, they will rip your natural hair out unless you're gentle. THIS WILL HAPPEN NO MATTER where you go, btw, there's really no way to avoid it, unless you get them in for a few days and then removed after, or you're an expert with these and know how to take care of your hair with tips in. You could also pay extra to have her remove them if you need that later. I untangle them manually, and so far, that's worked for me. Style as per usual, keeping in mind the bumps where the tips are attached/glued to your natural hair.
