Then a year later, in january, we had a catastrophic failure and had to sit on emergency heat for a couple of months, lovely. . we blame this on the original shoddy install. . $5K later, not to mention the power bills we are finally working again. . we had contact this company to make it all right but nope. . horrible! Business License expired March 2020. We did a down payment December 2020, they did some of the work and we payed them in full. Disappeared and never installed the Trane Heat Pump or Thermostat. We tried to be careful and look into all the companies we hired for our house but overlooked this one apparently. We are contacting LNI and the State AG immediatly. In August 2021, I paid HC $7,516 for half down for an HVAC system. They were eager to get my money. Wanted me to pay by credit card ASAP and had to ask another person if it was OK for me to mail a check instead, which I did. I received an email from HC Heating and Cooling on October 7, 2021, blaming the "international equipment/parts shortage the HVAC industry is going thru" and the pandemic for delaying installation of my system, promising to update me and get me on the schedule as soon as possible. My calls to their numbers go unanswered. No answer to email either. Now I hear they have skipped town, vacating their business location. I will be pursuing resolution of this fraud and theft. We are doing some remodeling to our home and wanted to make some changes to our HVAC system and see if we could move or isolate the heat pumps so they're quieter. The company sent out a "tech" who was clearly not very experienced. He told me a few things I know are incorrect. He said he'd have to discuss what I wanted with someone else at the company and get back to me on options. Even though this was a sales visit they charged me for the visit. Most companies will come out for free to give an estimate or a bid. The company never got back to me, so several weeks later I called back and was told someone more experienced would come out and they made an appointment with me. Nobody showed up for the appointment, and nobody called me to cancel it or to apologize for missing it. I called back and left messages three more times and never got a call back. read more

Worst company ever! I bought an expensive dual zone heating/cooling system; a ducted and ductless system. There were issues after the install and the salesman continues to help me for months after as we worked through issues with the setup. After 8 months, my salesman quit and I was left without a fully functioning system. The automatic temperature setting does not work, my wall units are not hooked up, and other various problems. HC (Tad the manager) has ignored my calls and even told one of the main installers I contacted to not help me. I paid almost 18K and this is the quality and customer service you get. Had HC come out last year and perform an annual furnace service and inspection. The tech was good and professional. So, I signed up for the annual maintenance plan/club, so I could be a preferred customer for my next annual service. Paid a fair amount of extra money to sign up. Just tried to connect with the company today to schedule my service call. No answer on any of their listed phones or locations. I find out from a competitor that they have gone out of business. So, myself, and any other customers that signed up for their "plan/club" got conned out of a whole lot of money. Not real happy about being conned. I will be following up with the Washington Attorney General's office to file a complaint. read more

Called around this time last year to get my furnace serviced (Oct 2020), they didn't have an avaliable appointment until November. Scheduled it cause it was my fault for waiting for so long. The day of the appointment they called and canceled cause the technician got covid. When asked when they could get me in they told me January! Trying to give these guys another chance I called today (October 7,2021) and asked if they had any service dates avaliable. They told me their maintenance season ended on Monday.....what?!? We called for an estimate on a ductless heating and cooling system, they scheduled the appointment but decided not to even bother to show up, even though my husband had taken the day off. Hours later, he received a call saying the installer would not be able to come out but would give my husband a call later in the evening and do a phone quote. No call. No email. No nothing. Unprofessional office personal passed the buck when we called asking what was up. Two weeks later, still no call, so my husband called them this afternoon again asking them if anyone was going to give us an estimate. Instead, the office personal (as well as the installers) continue with their pathetic customer service no service and magically as of today we are out of the service area. I say BS. They don't know how to run a business. I made a furnace appointment with the Shelton office for 11am-2pm. I drove from Seattle to our place near Shelton. At noon I called to check on their arrival time and got their answering service. I was told that they would get the message to the office and the service people. They never called and never showed up. I called again at 2:15 and got the answering service again. Later someone from the office called and told me that the 11-2 appointment time is not guaranteed, they might come, they might not. Then they asked me if I wanted to reschedule. First off I have never in my life been so disappointed in a company. A little back story of our situation. We wanted to get AC for our home. We had a few different companies come out and give us quotes. HC had the best price for what we were looking for. The person who gave the quote seemed knowledgeable and experienced. We had the tech come out to install our unit and low and behold she had entered in the wrong information and they didn't have the correct parts for our install that day. They told us that they would be back the next to start the install. We waited around all day no call no show. We called and left several messages with their "answering service" never received a call back. We then contacted them Monday, we were told that the service tech should not have given us a time because he does not control his schedule. No apologies just excuses. Fast forward and the tech finally shows to start the install, stops mid install because the wind is to bad for him to continue. Totally understandable we would not want anyone getting hurt. It takes them SEVERAL days to come back to finish the install. They start at 10 say it should take a couple of hours. Well...They didn't leave until 8 that night. Given they had to stop because the helper cut off the tip of his finger and he had to be taken to the ER. Ok no problem accidents happen. The installer installs the unit incorrectly. So we have to have yet another installer "more experienced" come. Well the first installer didn't hook up the unit correctly and he had to rehook it up. Two weeks later at midnight our fire alarm is going off. Turns out they not only hooked it up wrong the first time but still had it wrong. Our attic flooded. It took them five days to come out to check damages then another three days to reinstall what was already installed. They were supposed to send out an electrician to check our electrical in the bedroom that flooded and hook up a ceiling fan for us. Two weeks later after calling multiple times we are told that they were waiting for us to buy said ceiling fan, one that we already owned? Not only are we still waiting on a replacement fire detector for the one they ruined but we are still waiting on a metal piece that is supposed to go outside of our house. We started the install in February and it is now June. They showed up today to replace said fire detector but some how forgot the part? I told them that I had plans today and would not be waiting around I was informed that my husband could install the fire detector himself and they would just leave it on the porch. I'd bet money on the fact that they will not be returning today or any other day for that matter. If you enjoy being jerked around. HC cooling is for you! read more

Furnace trouble so I used Home Advisor and called this company. Nice guy came out recommended a new system. The office emailed me a quote that was just one final number with no itemization. When I asked to know what the charges were for they said they did not provide that information because the "software does not do that" and refused any further information. This is the first company that gave us an honest quote, didn't try to sell us a brand new system and installed what we needed with minimum effort on our part. We had four other estimates done when we wanted to add a heat pump to our 5 year old Trane furnace. It was already fully installed, we just needed the heat pump and pad dropped outside. OMG, Sears and Dana's insisted we needed a whole new system for around $12K! Everything done in one day, no mess, fully trained on the brand new thermostat we can control from our phones and the system works GREAT! So impressed with their knowledge, service and attitude we signed a maintenance agreement with them to come every year and service our unit. I've used Hood Canal for 11 years and had same repairman each visit and was totally satisfied. However, he retired 2 years ago and their service quickly went downhill. Driver of HC van took risks passing on the highway from Allen to Shelton, first was flashing his brights at me and then passed with on-coming traffic, very scary, just so he could get behind the larger HC truck. This was in an area of the highway where a woman was killed several years back. I had to step on my brakes and slow down, just so this guy could cut in front of me. Sorry, if I was doing the speed limit in the area where I woman was killed. So I followed you all the way to shelton, where you turned right, and went on your way. Had a new heat Pump and Gas furnace installed this summer. Did research and obtained competing bids and when comparing like systems H.C price was competive. The equipment installed is Trane and is rated as high as the others. There service was outstanding. Being the middle of the summer they where busy but where able to install the system 2 days ahead of schedule. I was little unsure of what my electric bill would be since I have never had air conditioning installed. To my surprise after the first month of service, Aug 2015, My KWH used was less than what I used same period for 2014 and the average Temp. for Aug 2015 was higher than same period in 2014. This was using a Heat Pump for cooling and having the fan running continuously at 35%. Installed equipment is Trane 2 stage HP Model # 4TWR7036B1000A and Trane XV95 Variable Speed Gas Furnace Model # TUH2B060A9V3VB. So far no complaints. read more

We had HC heating come out to service our Trane heater for regular maintenance on one of their specials. When the tech was done we noticed the new filter he installed was squished. We weren't happy but went and bought a new one and installed it. About two months later when we needed to use the heater it would only blow cold air, we called HC Heating and asked for a different tech because we weren't happy with the first guy. They sent out another tech and he found that the jets were dirty and cleaned them, checked the operation of the heater and said it was good. We turned the heater on the next day and this time it wouldn't even turn on. Call HC Heating again and they sent out their "head tech" and he found that our fan wasn't operating correctly and informed us we needed a bran new heater for approximately $5000. We said we needed to think about it and would get back to them. We wanted a second opinion, so we called another local person. This technician came out and found that the heater was in "great condition" and said burners were dirty. He cleaned them and checked the operation and the heater has worked perfectly ever since. read more

The office staff were very friendly and helpful. the tech that came to my house was very knowledgeable and he helped me and walked through my system and showed me how to operate my thermostat properly. I haven't had things services in quite some time, so I thought it was time to get things serviced. Dave showed up, and I asked him if I could watch and learn.. He said it shouldn't be a problem.. I am a pretty active home owner, and like to understand things, because there maybe a time when I am unable to get someone out, or something. Dave went above and beyond and even told me some cool things about the unit that I had so if I ran into a problem with it, I maybe able to diagnose myself. I am a bit more comfortable with what I currently have, and Dave was super knowledgeable in this arena. I would highly recommend Hood Canal to any and all of my friends. I contacted HC Heating and Cooling because my heat pump/furnace was not keeping my house warm. Service tech came out, looked over the system, "no problem found," left. Continued problems with the system, so I called them back. Over a period of several months (due in part to Covid-19 limitations and delays getting parts) they returned, replaced the thermostat, left, diagnosed a need to replace a board, left, returned and determined that every time the heat pump was activated a fuse blew in the furnace, left, returned to replace the fuse, left, returned to diagnose that a board needed replacing in the furnace, left. Service tech promised a call later that day (a Wednesday, or Thursday at the latest). No call. I called the service manager on Friday and was promised a call on Monday when the service tech returned from California. Pressed her to make sure I would get a call, she said "I'm writing myself a note right now." Guess what? No call! That was about six weeks ago, and they have not contacted me since. Not even a fare the well. I called Dana, and in addition to fixing my problems, they discovered two AC wires were simply hanging loose in the heat pump. HC techs are incompetent, the company is irresponsible, and has no integrity or sense of obligation to their customers. Use them at your peril. read more

I had heat pump issues at my Belfair house and called the local guys. (day 1) Spoke with lady in office mid-morning who said tech would be out late afternoon, but couldn't give a time. Afternoon comes and goes and about 5:00 I get a call stating tomorrow for sure. (day 2) Tomorrow comes and goes, no tech. I call about 4:45 for update, "Oh so sorry...busy, tomorrow". (day 3) Tomorrow again comes and goes. I drive over to the business on the north end of town and arrive about 4:45. Lots of vans and tech's in the yard, ready to go home. I walk to the little office and contact the 2 girls, who were honestly more focused on their snacks... "Oh, that's what that note was...we were just talking about that" is not the answer I wanted to hear on day 3. The moral of this story, I walked away and called Dana's the next morning, Tech was out by noon and gone by 1:00. Guess which HVAC service I will be using or recommending in the future? read more

After 22 years of service via Hood & Canal Heating & Cooling of a heat pump on our roof, a technician arrived without a ladder. He ("Ken") was apologetic and offered a 15% discount to reschedule. He told me that HC Heating bought Hood Canal Heating & Cooling and that this is a now a new corporate company retaining none of the records of its predecessor. Rescheduling involved several phone calls. Once service was completed, HC denied honoring the 15% discount and tacked on a $20 "difficult roof ascent" charge. Ken denied ever having offered the discount (???). Multiple phone calls into HC Heating to resolve this including two disconnects by the receptionist. Tanya in accounting only escalated my call to Chuck Davis, her boss, after repeated requests. Chuck Davis would not make the situation right without ownership approval. Exhausted at the effort and appalled at the outright lie, I paid my bill and moved on. If someone is going to lie about something as simple as this, I don't want them in my house doing work. Beware and try another service provider. This is not the same company that is used to be. read more

This review is not based on a service that the company provided, but rather on a service that the company *failed* to provide. I rent my home, and I had noticed that the hot water wasn't lasting as long as usual for showers, baths, etc. so I alerted my landlord and he told me he would find a company to take care of it. According to him, he had to call Hood Canal Heating and Cooling three times even to just get an appointment, and when he did get in touch with them, they said we could expect a serviceperson between 12:00 and 4:00 on Thursday the 10th. A four-hour range is perfectly reasonable - lots of service companies do that. Note that I have a friend visiting from out of town, so not only did we need the water heater to be at capacity, but she had sightseeing she wanted to do, so we planned our day around getting home in time to meet the serviceperson. Well, at about 11:15 I listened to a voice mail on my cell phone from 10:45, saying that the serviceperson had come to my house, and that they had called my home phone as well as my landlord's phone to see if we were there, but we weren't, so the guy had waited about 15 minutes and then left - and he would not be coming back, because we had been taken off the 12:00-4:00 slot! This is absolutely unacceptable. I can certainly understand if the service guy gets to a house early, trying to see if the resident is there, and maybe get the maintenance taken care of ahead of schedule. That would be fine. But we weren't home, which is understandable seeing as WE HAD BEEN TOLD TO BE THERE BETWEEN 12 AND 4! He should have returned at the time we were given. That's just good business. I told my landlord about this and he called the company to complain, and then the company called ME to tell me that they had "determined that they would no longer be working with" my landlord because he was "awful" to them on the phone. First of all, yeah, of course he was upset! Second of all, it's ridiculous for them to even state that it was their choice not to work with him, seeing as they created the problem, and then didn't rectify the situation by sending the service guy back at the time originally given. I'm not even sure why they felt the need to call me, except to somehow get me on their side against my landlord, but guess what, he's an excellent landlord and Hood Canal Heating and Cooling didn't hold up their end of the bargain and then screwed us! The person I spoke with just kept making excuses and saying "I don't want to argue the point" and only finally apologized after I wore her down. Suffice it to say, I've "determined that I will not work with this company," and I will never recommend that anyone else does. read more

I called HC to get a second opinion on one of my heat pumps and to have the heating of both heat pumps serviced - the cooling system had already been serviced by another company. The young man they sent was very nice - he tested both heat pumps etc - and said they were both working fine. I was confused, because when I looked at the ratios between the numbers they were off. I called the office the next day, they scheduled another technician. He tested the system and told me that he was not sure what was wrong but the numbers were definitely off and not ok. Since the original technician had given me the wrong information, I asked for a refund on only the cooling maintenance - I was willing to pay for the heating maintenance. After not hearing for two days - I called back - I was told that the second technician now recommended replacing both heat pumps and air handlers and they would not refund me any money. I heard about Hood Canal Heating from a friend and am completely satisfied. They replaced my old electric forced air furnace with an air source variable speed heat pump and air handler. When the estimator came to the house he was on time and was very thorough with his assessment of our heating and cooling requirements, explained the estimating process and rationale, designed an additional cold air return duct installation that greatly enhances the air flow throughout the house and provided detailed bids. The installers were on time, very professional, very informative and did excellent work. All the people in the company I have had contact with are quite responsive to my questions and they filled out the papers for me that I needed to send to PSE for rebates. The cost of the total job was at a much more competitive price than other bids I received for similar equipment. read more

My heat pump stopped working and I had Hood Canal Heating and Cooling come out to fix it. When the technician arrived he quickly determined the problem to be a faulty capacitor. He told me he did not have the part with him and that he would have to bring it out on a later date to fix it. He left and then returned moments later knocking on the door and asking for $115 for the service call. I paid the $115 and then later that evening I received a call from Lisa, the company owner. She advised that it was going to cost an additional $151 to come back out and replace the capacitor. I had already looked on line and saw that the capacitor was about a $30 part...but I agreed because I certainly did not know how to swap it out and I thought it would be best left to the professionals. She then highly recommended I have my heat pump and air exchanger (furnace) serviced and cleaned. She told me this was an additional $170, but it would include a complete service and cleaning of both the outside and inside units. I thought this was expensive...but I took the advice and agreed to have it done. So now I'm up to $473 and some change (including tax) for what I knew really boiled down to a $30 part. Having this mind, I still reluctantly agreed because I figured I'm getting my system serviced and cleaned and the capacitor installed professionally. The technician came out a couple of days later and I watched as he changed the capacitor...which looked about as easy as changing a light bulb. I thought that figures...but I was still ok at this point. Then the tech began the service and cleaning portion of his visit. A couple minutes into it he called me over and told me he was going to need to charge me an additional $145 to clean the coils in the furnace. I looked at the coils and saw a light layer of dust. I told the tech that I was already paying $170 and that it was explained to me that this would include a complete service and cleaning. He argued that the coils were dirtier than normal and it would take him longer than the allotted 15 minutes he had for that portion of the service. I explained my frustration to him and he simply asked me if I wanted him to continue or not. I told him no if he was refusing to complete the service for the agreed upon price. The tech then began gathering his equipment to leave. I immediately called the company and spoke with Lisa. I explained how the tech was trying to charge me an additional $145 for the light layer of dust on the coils. I then told her I would take a photo of the coils and send it to her, which I did. (I still have the photo if anyone would like to see it). Lisa told me she would call the tech to see what was going on. She called back and told me the tech would return and the additional fee would not be charged. She told me the tech explained to her that it would take him 45 minutes to clean the coils. Moments later the tech was knocking on my door saying that he had been instructed to waive the additional $145 fee. The tech then completed his service and cleaning. It should be noted that it took less than 20 minutes for the tech to do whatever it was he was doing in the area of the coils. My system worked for two days before the coils in the furnace completely froze over...a problem I've never had before. I sent Lisa an email with a pic of the coils that were now covered in a large layer of ice. I later had phone contact with the service manager, Mike, who told me he has only been with the company for 2 1/2 days. I explained the entire situation to him and he agreed that I had reason to be frustrated. He promised to look into the situation and call me back the following day. Around 1:00 pm the following day I had to call Mike back because I had not heard from him. He told me he and the techs were puzzled by why the coils would be freezing over. I explained that I had been looking on line and that there were several common reasons for this to be occurring. He told me they did not believe those to be the causes because it should have been something checked and caught during the service the tech had performed. I explained that was my point exactly and I told him they needed to send someone back out to determine if the problem was at all related to whatever the tech did or did not do during his service. I explained, and he agreed, that I felt it appropriate that I not be charged an additional fee to have them come out and diagnose the problem. Mike told me he would try to sell that to the owner and he would call me back. Mike called me back and told me there was not anyway they could wave the fee and that if they came back out it would be an additional $115. I did not agree to this and I now have to call another company to come out and diagnose the problem. Don't make the same mistake I did, start off by calling anyone other than Hood Canal Heating and Cooling for any of your service needs. read more

This company installed our American Standard heat pump system in 2006 during construction of our home and we have used them since to conduct annual PM's. A week ago our air handler fan motor became overly noisy and I arranged for them to conduct testing and repair if needed. The quote for repairs seemed high, but I was told the parts were expensive. Reviewing the bill and the cost of the components, motor - $659, run capacitor - $122 gave me pause. I called a HVAC parts distributor (MidWest) and was told the retail (not contractor) cost for these units was $340 and $18.95. I called Hood Canal H & C and discussed their pricing with the person who orders the parts and was told the price includes labor. The technician was here for an hour and a half and also did the annual PM, which cost $189. I then called Capitol H & C in Lacey, who service A/S heat pumps in the Shelton area and asked for a quote to conduct annual PM's and specifically to do this particular repair. $140 for the PM and $550 for the removal and replacement of the fan motor and run capacitor. I am now a customer of Capitol H & C and have a contract to conduct all maintenance for $310/year. This contract covers parts and labor and annual PM's. I was born at night, but not last night. read more

We have been customers with Hood Canal for a very long time, we left because of an employee Lisa, she was rude, mean, and verbally abusive over the phone. Our neighbor told us she had been let go and the girl we really enjoyed had returned, so naturally we called and returned our business!! All was going well for quite awhile until we started receiving invoices that we already paid (with a line item showing the check number we paid with) saying we still owed money. When we called the office we were assured that the information would be forwarded to the book keeper and fixed, the book keeper did not hold up their end of the bargain. We again called the office and the girls were embarrassed to say the least. The we found out Lisa was back and the new book keeper!! That explained everything.
