We hired AmeriCool to install the HVAC system in our new build in 2022-23. When placing the heat…read morepump, they opted for convenience instead of paying attention to the design of the home. Whereas the plans called for a unit which exhausted upward, they opted to install a unit which exhausted out the side -- and pointed that right at our front door/porch and directly across several thousand dollars worth of landscaping that had already been installed (unit placement was one of the last install items). Flash forward to winter. Though the weather was typical PNW -- rainy but above freezing -- the heat pump's frigid exhaust created an ever-thickening layer of ice on the concrete porch and steps just outside the front door and along the paver walkway leading to the driveway. Also, the exhaust desiccated several of our plants. We contacted the manufacturer who stated we could build a 4' high cedar slat fence 2' in front of the unit to redirect the exhaust, but this ultimately failed because the unit was tucked into a corner nook between the garage and home. The redirected exhaust built up an ice sheet under the unit and 10' up the adjacent gutter until the ice pushed the unit over on its side. Americool's response: "It happens and you're not under warranty." We worked with another company on a solution which we ultimately performed ourselves -- a wind baffle coupled with gapping the fence slats, a tray under the unit with underground piping to our storm drain, installation of an outlet and placing a plug-in deicing rod in the tray to keep the condensate drainage liquid so it can drain away. On a new build! They could have located the unit anywhere! Or better yet just installed the upward-exhausting unit called for in the plans. Just avoid these fools.

I can't recommend Old Skool Plumbing enough. We had a leaky outdoor faucet, and Seth was able to…read morecome round same day. He was polite, communicative, and gave honest feedback. He triaged the situation and shared how he was going to attempt to fix it. He started with the easiest and most cost effective option, only doing a more intensive repair when the first strategy wasn't successful, which I really appreciated. The cost for the service was excellent, and he gave us recommendations to consider going forward. Will definitely use Old Skool Plumbing again!

I was out of town when a tenant called me and said a pipe had burst behind the washing machine…read more The house has CPVC pipes that crack easily (all plumbers have told me this) Turns out the washer bumped it and snapped the pipe right in the wall. Thinking quickly, she ran to the garage and found the plastic pvc valve behind the hot water tank.... something that probably hadn't been closed in decades. And, in a panic, used a wrench or something to turn the valve.... which promptly snapped THAT pipe off. (Which is actually not too bad, since it stopped the flood inside the house and was just blasting out in the garage.) Anyway, I called about 10 different plumbers and got everything from phone disconnected to "virtual assistants" in like Arizona, even some awful AI that pretended to be a person and was like, "Oh my, yes, I can see how a burst pipe is a problem. Can you tell me more about it?" God, it was awful. Then I call Old Skool and he was already on a job, but heard the drama and was like, "Ok, let me put this stuff away. I can get there in an hour or so". 30 minutes later he was at the house. Luckily, the neighbor had turned the water off at the street by then. So, he explained what had happened gave me a very fair price, then went out and got the parts he needed, fixed everything very nicely, calmed down my tenant, sent me some before-after photos, and I paid him via an online invoice. Dude basically saved me from having to put up an entire family in a hotel while I waited for those other guys to show up and probably make crazy bids. Instead, tenant spent the evening at home wet-vacing up the mess and running a dehumidifier. Still gonna be some water damanage, but I'm pretty sure I'd be out +$10k if that had to sit a few days. Instead, this dude came in, calmly took care of the situation. If you're a homeowner, this is a good number to have on your contractor list. (attached is the before and after of the hot-water-tank pipe fix)

I had a leak in the line going to one of my B and Bs. And needed it fixed. I'm a full time caretaker now and can't leave my house for long. Bye the time there sales man came the water was terned off. found the leak exposed the line. Called at 1:00 Plummer was not out tell 5. Worked done 6:30. Thats just shy of 5000.00 for 4 foot of pole line 2 clamps. 2 barbs. Brake down of price was 450.00 for parts. For 20.00 in parts. That's a 2150% mark up 500.00 for equipment. Truck, shovel, shop vac. 2 tools. 3500.00 laber.... Plummer was boots on the ground for 1 1/2 hr. With drive time 3 hr. I do know that bid was for 5 ft of ground work. Any more would have add to the price. Had there been any more brakes in the line. Talked to manger just so you know there average cost is 1000.00 an hr. Plus tax equipment and parts. Also the plummer told my b and b guest that the filters where dirty is why the water was discolered resolting in a reimbursement for there stay. The water is discolered any time you turn water off on a well. Most times clears in 24 hr. Just wont to put this out there so some ones grandma dose not get fleeced bye this company. If you call around this should have been in the 1000.00 range.... even the sales man when talking to the Plummer was saying it was supper easy job. No rocks or roots. Already know where the leak is. Know what parts you need. Let my buyers remorse. Be your keep calling around. In the end find your local Plummer. Have more then on you can call. But if you need to call roto rooter know its bid work. And bid at 1000.00 an hr plus tax. Parts and equipment.
