Got a special saw with a blade from Japan here. Using it is like night and day from the old rusty one I was using for a special custom project. Beautiful saw blade. Told one of the ladies here what I was doing and what material I was cutting. Explained the issue of fraying and crushing with other methods. Very quickly she walked me to the best possible option she could think of. I was able to try it out and the price was marked on the package. Can't do that when you buy online. People working here wore masks. I'm not sure if customers are supposed to. Big open store with fewer people inside - so I think its as safe as it gets. What was a tedious job was now so much quicker. I saw the sign on the building saying they were closing, as I am always looking for deals on tools for my husband who has a lot already, but in my mind, you can never have enough tools. Besides the right tool for the right job and given the family and friends we have that borrow, take, keep or break your stuff, to have a great inventory is important. When I got into the store, the store looked like business as usual. Nothing was marked down, so it felt like a bait and switch! And being a woman, especially of short statute, there is an assumption that I have no idea or concept of tools and what they are for. Disappointing! I walked out and have not gone back. read more

I have been doing business here over 20 years. Always had / have great service. And many times they will have a specialized tool I need. Something else I would point out, these are professional tools. I have power tools from them that are 20 or so years old. A tool may LOOK the same as something in a big box store however is you check labels and specs. you might find differences. Without mentioning any names a scroll saw I shopped for in big box made in Asia. One I bought from Hayward tools made in Switzerland still works like a fine watch One more thing I have always had fantastic customer service (thank you Nancy) They always help and on a few times the Gentleman has pointed out when I was considering something that would not work for me. After reading some of the past reviews I was a little hesitant to stop by and check out the sale I saw advertised on Craigslist. I decided to check it out and I am glad I did. Was there first thing in the morning and was greeted by gentlemen when i walking in the door. I asked about the tool boxes I read about on craigslist. The gentlemen led me into backroom and showed me a few on display plus had more upstairs. I told him model I was looking for and he said I got one. Great lets see it. He got some help from a your women and after a few minutes it was down from the second story on the forklift. I was able to open box to make sure it was not damaged or missing parts. Everything looked great and I completed the sale. If you are looking for a new, old stock, weatherguard toolbox they have some at a screaming price. We are talking about about 75-80% off list price. Only condition for sale is must pay cash. They helped me load in my truck and all was great. Not sure what happened with other customers and their shopping experience but everyone was nice, respectful and friendly. May be back for another for one of my other service vehicles. read more

This is one of those stores that just needs to go away so everyone can forget that they even existed. They could have every tool in the world in stock and have a never ending half off sale and I would still rather go miles out of my way in the snow, up hill both ways and pay double somewhere else...... Just as long as Hayward Tool and Equipment doesn't get a nickel of my money. The little rag that greets people at the door the same way a rabid badger might greet an intruder in his hole is most likely the owners loser daughter that nobody else will hire so he's stuck with her. Her unpleasant disposition coupled with the generally shitty attitude floating around the store will eventually be the demise of this business and I can't wait. They have good, hard-to-find tools, often exactly what I need. I'm a general building contractor. I shop at hardware stores that are nearby and convenient for ordinary tools, but I'll drive a long way to Hayward Tools for their superior selection of special and contractor grade equipment. One of my favorite tool places, and they're somewhat linked to my other favorite tool dept across the bay in San Mateo, K119. They pretty much have what you need, maybe not exactly what you want, but they will definitely help you get the job done before they don't. Recently checked in on them, and found that they are an authorized carrier of veto pro pack. As they did not have the Black or back pack I wanted, they do have one of the first wheeled/backpack combos that veto offers. If you want them to remain carrying the line you may want to get in there and pickup one. They also carry a nice line of hand tools ranging from Klein's to Knipex. Give them a try one day if your looking for something on particular. While they don't carry Wera, I did score a Wera 1-25 lb²in torque screwdriver. They even carry ladders, big air compressors, and they may rent some things. read more

Clearly this merchant has what you may be looking for however beyond the friendly efficient sales staff you will be taken to the cleaners financially on even the smallest purchase. IE a pair of Makita CB-76 brushes for one of your power tools will set you back $27.45 !!! These are available on EBAY with free shipping for around $6-$9. Be aware. Most of these electrical maintenance brushes can be found for well under $20 even at a pricy vendor but $24.95 and tax ring up $27.45. I think I found TOOL HELL. read more

Wow! I have known this store from "years ago" and recall they were pretty good and usually had what you wanted. Today I needed something pretty simple... a set of standard offset wrenches. Not rocket science. I concur with other reviews about not very friendly vibes and being stared at. I asked for offset wrenches in standard, as plain of English as I've got yet he seemed to not know what I was asking for (and this guy is in the tool businesss?!!) He did eventually find ONE set for over $120! Are you friggen kidding me? These sets go online for $45~$55 all day long; I could get a cheapo set at Harbor Freight for about $30. Price more than double at Hayward Tool! They are out of their mind. As soon as he told me the price I told him, "OK, I am done here". I will NOT be back. Do yourself a favor, go elsewhere....these guys suck and are trying to rip off the public with overpriced (2x!) items. read more

My very first time in this store, as I was walking in they where accusing a man of shoplifting and he looked very offended and upset... telling them to look at their cameras. After I noticed the sharp eyes on me too, I took the few things in my hand and and started making my way to the register. A store worker ran up to me saying "we closing, we closing" in a very rough cutting way and simultaneously the lights where turned off. I placed my items on the closest counter and walked out of the dark store. In this time when brick and morder stores are loosing so much due to the pandemic and Amazon... Hayward Tool sits unassumingly on Foothill Blvd next to the large motorcycle dealership (Hayward Motorsports?). I've bought tools from them in the past for specific jobs, as their tool inventory is quite impressive. Their prices are very high for the most part, but that's not my real beef with them... The problem with Hayward Tool is their rotten attitude. From the moment you enter the store, you are eyed with suspicion and watched. It's really creepy. Perhaps they have had a lot of thievery in their past, but I am no thief, and I don't dress or act marginally. (Others I know get the same treatment there.) Anyway, I bought a set of 6 (off-name) hex sockets and a screwdriver one day: the cost was nearly $50! When I got home, I found out that Harbor Freight Tools had an even better kit on sale for about $6, and my father had already purchased it for me. So I kept the tools in the bag and a week or so later went to return them. I was met with nasty attitudes and heavy suspicion, even though my tools were obviously unused. They have signs about their 30-Day return policy posted throughout the store, but if you look on back of the receipt (after you pay for your items), you will see that the policy does not apply to hand tools and most everything else they sell. To me this is fraud. Effectively, they stole $50 from me. If you feel like getting ripped off and treated like a criminal, by all means visit Hayward Tools. Unfortunately, they carry a great stock of tools which most others don't. You may have to pay them a visit if you're ever desperate for a certain odd tap, die, or somesuch. But beware of these vultures. Do not assume that a single socket will cost a few bucks. Before purchasing the kit mentioned prior, I had just tried to buy a single 14mm hex socket for an oil drain plug, and they rang me up for over $40 for the single socket! (They claimed that's what KD sockets cost.) Buyer beware! read more

They have a very solid variety of tools for all sorts of tasks like automotive repair, construction, electrician, HVAC, woodworking, etc. Almost all of the tools are on the higher quality end, and they even some of the hard to find niche tools. P.S. I learned that this store has been in business for several years, so I'm glad to be supporting a local business. read more

Man I love coming here, they have huge selection of tools. I can spend hours in this place. The staff is very knowledgeable and friendly. Yes, its not the best prices, but u pay for the service and brick and mortar location. I have learned a while ago that on-line shopping for tools isn't the best especially if you can't touch it. I support them because they know their product and when you are in a pinch to finish the job, they will have the tool to get it done. Sorry Im not waiting 1 week for the tool to arrive in the mail for them to have shipped the wrong tool. I come here to get my hands on the right tool to get the job done!!! I ordered them at 9:30 in the morning and checked later and they said they did not ship that day they would ship the following week. I try my absolute best to shop local. It's the right thing to do. I was even trying to avoid to not write this review, but I must say, that their customer service is absolutely horrible. This place creeps me out. This place has terrible customer service. I purchased a couple of items and one of them was not the correct size. I was not informed of the return/exchange policy or the lack of return policy at the time of purchase. I notice after I got back to the office that a stamp was put on my I invoice after my credit card was run that said no returns or exchanges. I never used the tool and it still had the tag on it. All I was trying to do was exchange it for the correct size. I feel I should have been told at the time of purchase that this item was a final sale. Only because they sometimes have some items that they may not have at The Home Depot or other local hardware stores, and every time I leave unhappy. To get to the point. They are WAY over priced! In some cases twice as much as other places. The customer service is HORRIBLE. They never come from behind the counter, they just point and then stare and watch you like you're going to steal something, or they follow you from isle to isle. I am a contractor I bought clamps that I was told by male owner would be compatible with orange bar clamps. They were not inexpensive and in the end they did not work, I had to scramble to find another fix. It took me a couple of months to make it back to Hayward to return the clamps. The owner refused to allow me to return the them it's been more than 30 days. The only reason I purchased them was because he said they would work. What a bitter disappointment. I stopped in at Casper's Hot Dog (right next door to Hayward Tool) for a bite and decided I'd browse Hayward Tool. My first impression was just how expensive the machines were. A Jet vertical mill I'd become used to seeing advertised at $4k-$8k on the 'Net and in tool trade rags had a sign on it for $12,999. Other items were similarly over-priced. The tools under glass at the counter didn't have prices on them, so I inquired about a 12mm die I needed. Having not done the research, I paid the $13 the woman helping me asked for and left. A day later, when the die broke, I looked it up on Amazon. One of the same brand, same part number was four bucks. After reading here on Yelp what horrible treatment over warranty exchanges people received at Hayward Tool, I decided to cut my losses and not bother. It's too bad that a tool outfit so close to home is so lousy. I don't plan to ever set foot in the place again. read more

I'm pretty much saying the same stuff the other reviews said, but i want to back their comments up and let everyone know nothing has changed there. their attitude is garbage, most of their tools are just plain old, the return policy is a joke, and yes, their occidental leather selection can't be beat. that being said, you'll be happier going somewhere else. unless your company is going to buy what you need there, don't spend your money there. on the return policy, forget about returning anything, unopened or not, just know that once you pay, they will never give you your money back. they don't care about making their customers happy and wanting to return, they just want to get paid. okay, so they have tools everywhere. HELLO, they're a tool store! and you're going to be a tool store, how about rotating out the 15 year old specialty tools that haven't sold cuz that makes your store just look cheap. and how about a smile or how the hell are you. not the glare they give you like they're waiting to catch you stealing. and a personal experience, bought a 6" t-squre there. $13 at Hayward tool, $8 at home depot. i know some people like spending their money on local business, but i like spending it on folks who appreciate it. read more

I will never enter that store again! Over the past 10 to 15 years I have spent countless, high priced dollars with Hayward Tool. Everytime I am watched as if I am a theif! Both husband and wife are very rude, as well as all the other relatives who work there. The owner will go all out for that sale, but try and return something and forget it! With the work I do, Hayward tool does carry those hard to find items and specialty tools. Beware, they are extremely high on their prices and they DO NOT STAND BEHIND THE PRODUCTS THEY SELL. After spending $6000.00 on a JET lathe, $2000.00 for a JET mill, and god knows how much more over the years, they will not take back an ASTRO air flanger for a hundred and some odd dollars that was A DISPLAY MODEL AND BROKE ON THE 1ST USE. I was told that he most certainly couldnt do that because ASTRO would charge 'him'! So I paid his full high price for a display model that could have had anything happen to it at any time prior to me buying it, it breaks on the first use, and 'oh well' he says. I have probably spent over $20,000.00 with this guy and he does me like that. Hayward Tool and the people who work there are a joke! They are rude, unhelpful, and don't give a rats ass about any of their customers. Do not buy anything from them. I will not ever again. read more
