First time encountered such rude customer service. Not sure if he's just unhappy with his job or they're having a bad day or is this how they always treat their customers. I called in to see if there was a tech cart in stock, because apparently their online inventory is inaccurate. A nice lady helped me. She told me they didn't have any in stock, I ask since you guys can see who has it and your inventory is more accurate in your system, can you tell me which store does have it ? She said yes I'll put you on hold, 5 mins later a guy came on the phone super aggressive, asking me what I'm looking for I said I have already been helped. He says what are you looking for ??? I told him wha I was looking for and he said unfortunately we don't stocks check here. You need to call every store if you want to know if it's in stock. Then I explained that since all HF have the same inventory can't he just view it to see it ? Aggressively told me no, I asked for his name he said he can't give out his name. I asked him then what was other lady doing for five minutes? He said she's not even checking the item she's helping another person. So please explain what was the point of putting me on hold and telling me you're going to check then not checking ?? I asked for his name and he told me he's not allowed to give out his name. Can't beat prices here. Even when not on ad they beat any large box store prices. Not liking how they have different tiers of coupons. You have ad sales, coupons needed sales, and club sales that go on simultaneously. Makes me confused on what item I saw where and at what price. Went on a Saturday morning at opening... got a greeting... which is rare because this store tends to get busy. They were out of a few ad items but a few they were able to locate in the back. read more

Not as "cheap" as people claim. Let's hope the quality matches the price People love to talk like Harbor Freight is the land of cheap tools, but when I pulled up ready to build out my kit, nothing I needed was cheap. Walked out $560 lighter. Impact wrench, full socket set, adapter, and a warranty plan. And that was without going overboard. They did have everything I needed in one trip, which I respect. But the lines were super long, and honestly, I was just lucky I knew what I was looking for because there was pretty much zero customer service. Tools were easy to find if you knew the layout, and the checkout was smooth once you got to it. Now we just see if this stuff holds up over time. If you want great customer service do not come to this Hayward location. The lines were very long. They had several employees upfront, but only had one cashier assist in everybody. Finally, Robert decided to help me as I walked up to the counter. I got no greeting. I was trying to ask him a question about a price difference on a tarp that I was buying because they had two prices listed in the middle of me talking. He walks away from the counter and he talks over me to talk to another random customer that walked in that wasn't even in line. He didn't give me this apology and try to explain the difference of the price of me not having a membership versus regular price. I had a couple questions but he thought it was more important to talk to the other guy who was not in line instead of me right in front of him, who is purchasing my items after I paid for my item he just ripped the receipt off and handed it to me, sat a bucket on the counter and didn't tell me that when you purchased something you get a free harbor freight bucket, very rude. Let's talk about JOE. Way to provide the worst service imaginable! We came in looking for a new jack for my dad for Father's Day. They did not have it in stock and Joe said the Fremont location had it in stock. He said he would give my dad the number to call. My dad asked for the address and was ignored repeatedly. After several minutes Joe became more disrespectful and told my dad he was waiting for him to say "please" Excuse me!!!!! We are talking about an older man not a child. Tbh my dad was polite the entire time and clearly Joe was having a power trip. Ewwwww Joe! I didn't even know Harbor Freight tools was a hardware store. I was so used to going to the Ace Hardware store on B street but unfortunately it closed down. I was looking for a hardware store that carried "multi-purpose sprayers," and their website showed Harbor Freight did did. With no hesitation, I hopped in my car and drove over. The store is organized really well and the customer service rep was very nice. I showed the a screenshot of the product I was looking for. They walked me over to exactly where the product was. YESSSSS!! I decided to look around and saw many products they may be useful for other things (not just the fleas in my front yard and garage). Super glad I found this store. A really good friend of mine told me about Harbor Freight as we were talking about home diy projects. I was excited when I saw that there's one nearby my house. Ive been to this location twice and so far my experience was good. First visit was in February of 2023 when I needed a sander for my diy project (I repainted my kitchen cabinets!). I found a great sander here and paid less than $30. That first visit I signed up for their email subscriptions bec I was informed they send out coupons, say less. My 2nd visit was today (January 2024) to look for a miter saw and box for my next diy project. I was hesitant to go in by myself (first visit was w boyfriend) but I really need to stop procrastinating on my project. Came in and first thing I heard was a voice from the cash register on what sounded like giving great customer service (more on this later). I looked for the aisle on where the saw would be but for some reasons might've missed it. When I was gonna look for help, a nice gentleman approach me and asked if I needed help. He showed me where the saw is and answer a couple of my questions. Great! Made my way to the cash register slowly as I was browsing what else they have in the store (I love to window shop). The store is very clean and organize. While waiting in line, I saw how Bree greeted every customer and provided excellent service, to every single one, consistently, this is rare esp in retail these days. When it was my turn to pay, I was pleasantly greeted by Bree. She asked me if I have a phone number w them then rung up my items. Showed her my coupon and she wrapped up my transaction efficiently in a very friendly way. All in all was a great experience. And will definitely visit when I need something for my home diy projects! Time for some big boy toys and wow, what a selection you can find here. So many helpful competent people here at this specialty store it was almost shocking. Stores like this are becoming more and more rare - I'm talking about specialty stores that do just one thing and do that one thing really well. Back in the day if you wanted bread you walked into a bakery. Need some wood? Go to a lumber yard. Flowers? Yeah, you guessed it a florist. Today you buy everything that you would ever need from Costco, Home Depot or Walmart. They have an average selection of everything - just enough to get by and the people you run into there generally know little about what they are selling. The opposite is true here. Every person here, it seems, has a passion or maybe even a past life in the tool and construction arena. People here have a very good idea about where things are located and are very helpful in explaining options and differences in products. What are the chances you have competent help in a big box store these days? I remember once I walked into a Walmart and ran into a wonderful guy in the electronic department who helped me find a selfie stick, a cell phone accessory and even a turkey baster. He walked straight to each item without a hiccup or head scratching moment. That was a once in a lifetime kinda thing that I will cherish forever. These guys are known for coupons and freebies. Bad experience with the Harbor Freight motorcycle jack. H.F. offers 2 motorcycle jacks, one $100 more than the other. I bought the more expensive on because I wanted it to last, but it didn't and I really regret the purchase. I bought the jack 3 or 4 years ago, but only used it for a good cleaning of the whitewalls on my Harley Heritage, maybe 2 or 3 times a year, maybe 10 times total. As I was letting my bike down slowly, it suddenly dropped the last few inches. Fortunately, I had my hand on the grip and the kickstand down to keep it from falling over, but it was scary and that isn't what I had in mind when I bought it. Now it doesn't jack up at all. Even though you can see that it still looks brand new and obviously has seen little action, Harbor Freight only offers a 90 day return policy and I'm SOL. I may go back to buy small stuff, but I'll never make a big item purchase there again. read more

I find myself stopping into a Harbor Freight everytime I'm in the East Bay or in San Jose. They have ridiculously cheap tools and will always pepper you with free item coupons in the mail. I sometimes literally only need some super glue, yet still manage to snag some free stuff with purchase due to there not being a minimum purchase requirement on their freebie coupons. This particular location is fairly well stocked, and depending on who rings you up, usually pretty friendly. However the last time I went, I can only assume that their last shipment never made it to the store because all the shelves were half full (hopefully they're not closing down!). Hopefully one day Harbor Freight will move into the peninsula so I can shop there more often! Until then however, this location remains my go-to store on my way back home anytime I find myself working in the East Bay. read more

I love this store for little knick knacks here and there and have come in the store for at least 20 years. However they did me dirty today. I bought a sand blasting media a few days ago and realized i picked up the wrong type. So I returned it today w/ receipt brand new still in the box unopened. A sales associate named Jacob helped me from the Hayward store and sliced it open with its original sealed tape to make sure it wasn't a opened (note: all sales are final if it's opened) and checked with the manager Teddy and immediately she said it cannot be returned. I got Screwed! See attached picture after it was opened by the Jacob. Long story short I wasn't able to do my return. Hoping it's an isolated incident and could be used as a training example. Boys and there toys. Well boys who have toys need tools! I know most people on yelp think I'm a super tool but let me set you right. Harbor Freight is like a toy store for boys; they got all the awesome tools I want and need. The parking lot is a bit on the small size but the employees were pretty nice; They had a parking lot sale on the day I went. There was a older worker who was 60 years old and I had end up buying a large jack; it was around 80lbs and he flexed on me by loading it up on my cart. Mad Respect. He was also very helpful and had good information; this man knew his tools. I think his name was Mike he was great. Inside is like a candy store; they have all the tools I could ever want and most I can't afford. But the tools are priced pretty well; they have a ton of coupons of stuff I always want to get the prices are right. I'm sure the quality of a few of the things I bought are a bit junk. I bought some metal angle picks and they broke taking out my socket extensions I had bought. I thought that was pretty funny but it was a $2 set of metal picks you get what you pay for. I ended up spending a bunch of money to pimp out my ever growing tool set. I'm was pretty happy with most of the selection. Hate that I had to give it 3 stars. I have the same issue here with my tools, I buy warranty on every machine I buy.. and if something happens to where I need to depend on my warranty I can't get a simple transaction. They are almost 80% of the time LOSING records of my warranty. Sometimes I have to go home and scramble through my receipts at home to bring it back and show proof.. the employees are the ones not adding it to their system when I do purchase it or something. I don't know but the problem is persistant to where I have to get a manager and sometimes go back and forth until they fix it. It's an unpleasant experience as my husband and I are General Contractors and if something breaks we need it fixed or replaced ASAP Harbor losing records of our warranty really loses me money because my time is literally money. read more

So another Harbor Freight Tools has opened up near me in the Bay Area, specifically here in Hayward. This was my first visit to the new Hayward store after usually just frequenting the Newark store which is closer to me. I was in the area, so stopped by this one. The store is in a strange little streip mall with other businesses such a Chinese Cafe called Incline Cafe, and like a lounge and other places... Just stopped here to use my super coupons for some FREE Items that the coupon honored for. They send soo many coupons in the mail, it makes you want to keep on coming back and back to this store. Found the coupon items with no problem. After that browsed around the store for a little bit to explore the newly opened store. The store here feels more spaced out compared to the Newark store, which I'm used to. The aisles here are more spaced out and it doesn't feel cramped like it can feel like at the Newark one. Although there was a little bit of a wait at the checkout area, the cashier we had was very friendly. She was nice and helpful. read more

Unorganized Covid procedures!! i've been here a few times post covid and employees throughout the day doesn't seem to be in the same page and issue would always be about the line and there would always be someone upset when i'm in there. theres 2 rows with lines on the floor but people line up for 3. Now they add the 3rd row and you line up accordingly and wait a while but then you're told there's only one line. i suggest stop making the line in between rows and have one line against the wall. Not only does the line in rows get in the way of customers trying to shop at those rows but it also gets confusing wether there is line forming on the rows. you cant exactly check once you're inline already. Again why not make the rows agains the wall and get some sort of dividers like most stores use. This place can definitely do better, otherwise just go somewhere else. no need to risk going here just because this place definitely doesn't have it together. read more

Being a big tool junkie I knew what to except from harbor frieght. But in recent years they've updated there quality like the Pittsburgh pro ratchets have so far been allright. There screwdrivers and pliers are better suited for non daily tool users. But some of the electric tools make sense to buy them cus there handy even tho they may only last a couple times there really cheap. And they have really good deals like on Teflon I bought a ten pack for like a dollar and some change. Grinding wheels ten pack for 5 $. And the drain pans are alot better qualtiy then the auto parts kind. They a have alot of specialty tools that make sense to buy them here. Bought a 50 pack of rags for 10$. Wire brushes are so cheap here. They have alot of stuff. Try it out it won't break the bank. read more

One of the WORST customer experiences I have had with a company. I made an online order on April 4th and on April 8th they cancelled an item I desperately needed, then charged me $6.99 shipping on the other items that cost me less than $3. When I spoke to Cynthia (spelling unsure) on 4/16 at approximately 11:45 PDT, she had an attitude and was not very pleasant. I am extremely dissatisfied with Harbor Freight and I used to perceive it as one of the best stores to shop at. It's unfortunate to have had this experience; when I have been to the local Hayward and Fremont stores, the sales people were very courteous and helpful.
