What to eat? what to eat? That was my dilemma, decided to meet up with a good buddy of mine to have a later afternoon lunch. Was on the fence with Pho and decided it was time to change up the routine and try something else. Did a google map search and expanded my search and found this gem of a place. From all the reviews I read, this was the place for a late lunch. They are located just east of Dufferin and Dundas, easily accessible with the dufferin 29 or Dundas 505. The interior decor is very tame and welcoming, the window displays a rotating rotisserie where you can see slabs of ribs rotating being cooked that kind of gets you curious and sends good vibes for comfort food. No seating is available other than a bench for you to wait, definitely a take out join which was fine for us as there is a food court at the mall up the road or could of indulge in the feast outdoor (but it was raining ). Decided to order both the Chicken Karaage and Chalet Combo (Karaage and Ribs). Owner recommended both dish as a top prize pick, too bad we already chose it with our own judgement. Both order are huge portions and came out, it was pretty darn delicious. Didn't take long to prep. The Karaage came with purple rice, coleslaw, kimchi, lotus root, and kfc aioli sauce. The chalet was pretty much waffle fries, Karaage chicken and 3 big pieces of ribs along with the kfc aioli. The waffle fries were smothered with the rib sauce or what's left of it creating a whole new taste. The chicken Karaage was so juicy and fried perfectly, for sure it's been submerged in a butter milk bath and than seasoned perfectly. The ribs was on the okay side of it, am not really a pork person. Absolutely slayed the food and didn't want to move. Had good food coma. Will definitely be back for some more, but this time I'm going for the whitefish, chicken + waffle fries and the cheese curry fries. "Insert Homer Simpson salivating meme"

Had the karaage (Japanese fried chicken) sandwich. While a "snack", it was still a decent size. There was a lot of crispy, juicy chicken, paired with a brioche bun. The pickles & brown tartar sauce accented the chicken well. Overall it tasted decent; while I like karaage, it doesn't seem to suit the chicken sandwich format so well. This dish might be better without the bun. Right now they're only accepting orders on their website or via Ritual.

Saw it in social media and it looks so good so I decided to drag my family. The service: We were the first order of the day and it was still hot when we picked it up. The place is small. I think it's a family-run business, they were nice. Ordered in ritual and had a really smooth pickup. The food: It's a huge portion! I was really hungry but still couldn't finish it. My mom and I could have shared one. The karaage chicken was crispy and yummy. My dad really loved the spicy pork bulgogi, he finished it all despite saying he wasn't hungry. I was indifferent to the whitefish katsu and the korokke though. The sides and sauces that came with the bento were great and really complimented it. I also got eggplant on the side. It was a bit sweeter than I'd like so I probably won't be re-ordering that. I'd come back again when I'm in the area.

Lockdown 4.0 is underway time to support our beloved restaurant industry. First review for the new year. I ordered the white fish Katsu Bento. I got to say everything was done so perfectly that it tastes healthy. The fry was clean and not oily. The fish was crispy and moist. The rice and the banchan were good to switch up the texture and flavour profile. The sauce they used for tartar sauce was really good as well. Highly recommend people checking out this place.

Popped in here one afternoon. Food: They offer a series of Korean bento, pressed sushi, soon tofu and a variety of banchan (Korean sides). I ordered the whitefish katsu with tartar sauce ($13.99 + tax). It came with purple rice sprinkled with sesame, panko-breaded fried fish, kimchi, spinach, crab coleslaw and a sweet red-brown sauce (I cannot put my finger on what it is, it tastes familiar). The fish was not greasy and complimented well with the red sauce and coleslaw. I devoured the entire bento and thought it tasted yummy. Service & atmosphere: The shop is run by a mother and son duo. Both worked diligently, not going to lie, I felt a mothers touch with each bite. There is a bench to sit while you wait for a few minutes for your food to be ready. I consider this a takeout shop. There is a bowl of white rabbit candy at the front counter, without asking I took the liberty of taking one...I should check with them next time. Price: A bit pricey in my books (keep in mind I am cheap) but will come back when I want to treat myself.

Hawk and Chick is located near Dundas/Gladstone. This small eatery specializes in Korean bento boxes, pressed sushi, and banchan (Korean side dishes). It is mainly a take out restaurant although there are some areas to sit on near the window and a bench in the store. I believe they are owned and operated by a mother and son team. I had heard good things about the place and decided to drop by on a Friday night to order some takeout. I opted for the chicken karaage bento; cost for the bento including tax was around $15. Service was friendly and attentive and I waited about 5 min for my bento. My karaage chicken bento was delicious! It came with karaage chicken, purple rice, lotus root, kimchi, and a crab/veggie slaw. The karaage chicken was flavourful, moist, and had a great crunch to it (considering the fact that I started eating my bento probably after 30 min I had left the store). The kimchi had just the right amount of heat and the crab and veggie slaw that came with the bento was a light and refreshing addition to the meal. The purple rice was a bonus as it looked like a lot at first but I ended up finishing the whole bento. Overall, great delicious place for Korean bento! Would recommend!

Great and delicious doshirak (Korean lunch boxes)! got the karaage chicken lunch box, which came with kimchi, purple rice, crab stick coleslaw and a spicy sauce to dip the chicken in. Chicken was tender and crunchy, like it should be. The portions are very generous considering it's "only a lunch box". It's in a unique spot in Toronto, near many Portuguese-run businesses. Quite small space though, no real seating area, which is understandable since it's mainly a take-out joint. I am also glad to say they are peanut-free too! If you love Korean food and if you're the type that's always on the go, this place is for you!

The meat quality was better than I expected for an all you can eat BBQ place. Some cuts were more memorable than others, but most of what we ordered cooked well and had good flavor. I also liked the small sides and sauces because they helped balance out the meal instead of making it feel too heavy. Service was friendly and fairly quick, especially considering how busy the restaurant was. There were a few moments where we had to wait for refills or extra items, but nothing that really hurt the experience. Overall, it is a good spot for a casual BBQ meal with friends. There's no reservation system but they do have a waitlist on Yelp which gets you in line (highly recommended). First to know is you can't pay with credit card here--there's an ATM in the front of the restaurant. As far as the restaurant goes, it was fantastic from start to finish. Our table of 4 was seated and serviced by 1 main staff member, Lydia, who talked us through the whole menu and ordering system, recommended some great starts and then kept us frequently updated all throughout dinner. She checked up on us along with her assistants who were also bringing items and servicing the table. The food quality was excellent with juicy and flavorful cuts of beef along with the shrimp, pork, veggies, side dishes/ponchon, and rice--it kept coming consistently. Grill changes were frequent as well. The atmosphere is lively and there are a lot of servers so you aren't trying get someone's attention all the time. But it doesn't feel too cramped at the same time. As it is AYCE, everyone in our group left full of course and enjoyed each course. I liked the almond tofu at the end! ----TL;DR---- Pros: great selection of meats, quality was top notch, huge portions of course as it is AYCE, service was prompt and all staff were really friendly. Cons: no reservations so need to be on a waitlist. The no credit card system is a bit of an inconvenience. Bottom Line: we loved it--definitely would go back again and enjoy more of their selections! You have to try them if you like meat and AYCE!

It's my go-to spot to get my don fix - I love the wide variety of dons (rice bowls) that they offer with various fish and seafood combinations. There are also unique appetizers in the menu, such as Purple Yam Croquettes, Crab Crackers, Braised Bamboo Shoots with Shirasu (immature whitebait fish), and Takowasa (marinated raw octopus pieces, to be eaten with or wrapped in nori / seaweed). Although the dons are the main highlight of their menu (hence the restaurant name), they also offer traditional sushi, sashimi, sushi rolls and sets (similar to other Japanese sushi restaurants). Miso Aburi Scallops were very flavourful - nicely torched, giving the scallops a nice grill / char taste. They came with red and green seaweed, and a bit of fish roe. Large Premium Hana Don contained a good amount of fish and seafood, including a whole abalone, uni, shrimp in the shell, aburi salmon, ikura (salmon roe), salmon sashimi, tuna sashimi, yellowtail sashimi, other various fish sashimi, tamago (egg), and a few slices of cucumber on a generous bed of rice. I liked that the rice was a mix of white rice and some type of dark-coloured grains. Unatama Don came with a big piece of unagi and tamago (egg) that were both excellent. The sashimi were all fresh. Okonomiyaki was disappointing but it was sort of expected... for only $9, it was about 99% just flour pan-fried in a patty, without any substantial fillings (unlike real okonomiyaki, which usually contains protein / seafood, cabbage, eggs, and other ingredients). Location is super convenient near Bay & Dundas, ambiance is very casual, and service is quick.

The fishes were plated very pretty and because it's sushi of course it tasted good. But I was surprised at the level of wasabi that was plated. Cleared up my sinuses for 30 seconds. The establishment is very clean and bright and a great place to head to if you're in a rush.

The space itself leans more modern and clean rather than the typical dark, cozy izakaya vibe, which I actually didn't mind. It felt comfortable, not too loud, and easy to settle into for a slow dinner. We ordered a mix of small plates to share, and everything came out looking nicely put together. The aburi-style salmon sushi was one of the highlights for me.. lightly seared, with a soft texture and just enough flavor on top without being overwhelming. The tuna tataki was also fresh and clean, simple but well done. Some of the fried dishes leaned a bit richer with the creamy sauces, but they were still enjoyable, especially if you're in the mood for something a little more indulgent. The beef fried rice was straightforward but satisfying, one of those dishes that's easy to keep going back to between everything else.
