A hidden gem! I was in the area and looking for a quick and cheap lunch. I was craving for Korean food & my cousin recommended to try out this hidden shop in the basement of IKEA. It's like an abandoned mall with a food court. I ordered the soft tofu soup and it was surprisingly one of the BEST tofu soup I ever had. Lots of tofu and very good flavour! I do wish it came with some more side dish than just kimchi, but all good. Price was pretty cheap. I think it was $13 and there was 10% off if paid by cash. Super friendly service as well. This place is a not-so-secret hole in the wall. For those who know, KNOW. And for those who don't yet know, need to. It's only a hole in the wall because it's located in the sketchy basement food court of Aura (the same building as IKEA). You would never know it's there unless you visited or if someone told you about it, or you're me and saw it on Google maps. It's a food court stall. The food court is always empty, so there is always a seat available. The food court seating is relatively well kept and maintained so it's not trashed with dirt or garbage. They sell Korean food and some sushi. I'm still exploring their menu, but so far my favourite items to order: 1. Yangnyeom chicken on rice (comes with a small side of pickled radish) - usually if you order Korean fried chicken, you can expect to pay $18+ and it doesn't come with rice. This is ~$13 and it comes with rice! The flavour is also good and not too sweet or salty or spicy. 2. Cheese kimbap (comes with a small side of pickled radish) - I didn't expect to like this, but the cheese they use somehow works??? I know the guy was surprised I wanted to order it lol I've also ordered the gamjatang and I liked it. It was served in a comparable portion to other places but cheaper price. Service is friendly; seems like a family business. I wouldn't expect over the top service, but it's like being served by a friend or a cool acquaintance. This was a very surprising find. We were in the area and were super hungry. We saw all the great reviews and decided we will eat here. This is the basement of the aura building. Its just a small shop in an odd food court. Its truly a mom and pop shop. You see lots of people coming and speaking to the friendly owner. That itself was an indicator that place has its loyal customer base. We asked for extra spicy but of course in Korean food, spicy takes the form of sweet. Their gochujang is flavorful and is probably homemade. We enjoyed that we also got miso soup which was really good! We loved the quantity and the taste. Veggies were crunchy and the egg was perfectly runny. We didn't sit in the food court. We took our food to the college park area and enjoyed. It's on the lower level of the Aura building which you have to go down the escalator (it looks a bit isolated) but it is worth the search to find this place at the food court. Especially if you're a nearby Ryerson student or living in Downtown, the food can get quite expensive in the area. The food here is really affordable and large portions. They have a bunch of specials throughout the week so you're really getting the bang for your buck. I highly recommend the bibimbap if you are planning to eat at the food court (it's essential to have it with the hot sizzling bowl in my opinion!). The sauce is a nice balance of spicy and sweet that goes well with the fresh vegetables, meat and rice. Despite being in a food court setting, the dine in service was really friendly. PLEASE EAT HERE!!! If it wasn't for Yelp, I would never have guessed that this place existed. It's located in the "food court" of a "mall" that's literally dead - windows barred and everything. Plus, it's on the lower floor so I feel like no one comes here by chance, ever. Which is extremely unfortunate because the food is very, very good. I've only ever had the bibimbop section of the menu, but was quite impressed. Plus, it's packed with veggies and brown rice and seems pretty healthy to boot! Portions are also awesome for the price and is definitely filling. The woman (I think this is a family restaurant) serving me was so nice. When I walked up I was welcomed immediately. She also took the time to introduce each of the sauces (get the traditional one and combine it with hot sauce for the best effect) and some of the ingredients to me. Given that this is a fast food place in the middle of downtown, I don't think I can stress how rare this sort of experience is. Really really hope they get more traffic! I got Combo B which is brown rice and 3 choices. I choose beef bulgogi, fried chicken and vegetable dumplings ($10.50). It was a large portion for the price. The beef was soft and tender and not overly sinewy. The chicken was lean (not gristly) and lightly battered and had a nice spicy kick to it. I got 5 fried dumplings. They tasted like they had that soy protein/textured vegetable protein/faux ground meat in them. They were ok, but I was expecting real vegetables in them. The rice was a bit soft and mushy, but it was still ok. The couple working there were super nice. I think this place is great for Korean fast food. read more

Recently tried this place a couple of times and I've been pleasantly surprised. The prices aren't as cheap as I'd prefer for a food court restaurant but the portions are generous and the people behind the counter are very nice. I believe this is a mom and pop kind of shop and I really enjoy it, plus if you're dining in, they'll serve you the food, and there's a water station to help yourself. Sushi - We've tried the 14 piece maki combo and red dragon roll with salmon. The sushi isn't the greatest, especially if you get the ones already made and may be coming from the fridge. I believe the red dragon roll we tried was made fresh as it wasn't super cold like the maki combo. Be forewarned, there is a lot of rice in these rolls... perhaps to fill people's stomachs, but I wish they would use less rice. Korean dishes - We've tried their 'C' combo that comes with chapchae, 2 meats, and 1 vegetable. I love that the vegetable dumplings are considered a vegetable so that's what I've always chosen and they're great. I've also tried their spicy fried chicken, kalbi, and beef bulgogi. I would not recommend the kalbi, it was too chewy and tough. I'd love to try their stir fried pork next. We've also tried their soft tofu stew which comes with rice and kimchi - it was surprisingly spicy but still good, looking forward to trying their kimchi stew. Overall, don't come here with high expectation because of the reviews as it's not the greatest food in the world but it's quite budget friendly, and it hits a soft spot in me (and probably most of the Yelpers here) to continue eating here. read more

I frequent here every few days, and I believe this place deserves a lot of credit and can often be overshadowed by the popular Kaijiu. If you are in the area and have a Korean comfort food hankering this is the place to visit. It offers a great selection including stews, combo plates (pick 3/4/5 items), bibimbap, and sushi options. Although I have never tried the sushi, I can attest the rest will leave you stuffed and satisfied. At this price point however, I could be getting side dishes and water with my order at any other Korean restaurant, but I'll let this go since this is a food court restaurant after all. On the second visit, I got a rainbow roll and a salmon avocado roll and he got the raw veggie bibimbap. The owners/chefs appear to be family, which adds a nice mom & pop appeal. Nevertheless, if you're connected to the "PATH" (eg. College Park 1, 2,777 Bay, College Park Suites, College subway station) that means you can get here entirely indoors while wearing flipflops and tshirts in the middle of winter. When I saw jajangmyeon on the menu, I knew that was what I was getting. For $8.50+HST, it's a filling meal of noodles topped with a fried egg. It's not salty and it doesn't have MSG that would leave a dry taste in your mouth. It's just good and done right. If you stare at the menu, the owner will come out and recommend the Combo A, B or C to you. I'd still go with the jajangmyeon everytime but somehow it feels very un-foodcourt-like for people to approach and tell you about their menu. Is it because we're in Aura's dead/dying mall? I'm a regular here and I usually do a takeout of sushi platter time to time. Sushi quality is surprisingly good. They're fresh and well made and the rice tastes really good. Really, for the price, it really competes well with other great sushi joints around the city, and I go to a lot of sushi restaurants. Their udon and bibimbop is also very good. It is a shame that this food court is so vacant and quiet.. this spot deserves more attention and for the locals that know it, they know the quality they're getting. Stumbled upon this place while I was waiting for my food at Kaiju, as they're located in the same abandoned Shops at Aura food court. I was greeted enthusiastically by the middle-aged man who owns the restaurant. He quickly guided me through the menu and offered suggestions. I told him I just ordered food from Kaiju but I'd be back. I kept my promise and returned a few days later with a gamjatang (pork bone soup) craving to satisfy. I haven't searched too hard, but this is amongst the cheapest gamjatang you can get downtown at $8.50. The gamjatang itself was of average quality and average quantity - 3 large pieces. In addition to the cheap gamjatang, the other thing that stood out about this place was the nice old couple running this place. Much like Kaiju's owners, they seemed like good people just trying to make the most out of the unfortunate location of their business. One suggestion I have is that they offer free sides. I feel like this would put the value of the meal over top and would entice more customers. Give this place a shot - cheap Korean food in the dt core + good service. read more
