    Date day!

The owner is always so kind and so proud of her family! She brought us her niece to meet! It always feels like I'm apart of the family and like a mother's cooking!

It's been a minute since I last had sushi. their Tempura & Bulgogi. It all came to about $15.99 (excl. tax). The meal came in a bento box container with: Japchae (stir-fried glass noodles), salad, bulgogi, rice and sushi. The also give you tempura and miso soup as sides. The bulgogi was sweet and tender. I really liked it. The tempura was crunchy and not greasy compared to other tempura I've had. The inside of the sushi had vegetables and shrimp. It came with a sweet dipping sauce too. The staff were friendly and there were COVID precautions in place. Check out @debeats_ on Instagram for more hidden gems!

My best friend and I came half an hour after they opened around 11 and were seated in their empty restaurant. However, as lunch time was approaching, many more customers began to come in. I got the pop combo which consisted of a can of pop, dukbukki, and tonkatsu (pork fried cutlet but I originally thought it was chicken) for $14.99. Initially, I thought it was a steal because dukbukki alone is around $10 and with tonkatsu, it should be a huge deal! But the dukbukki was in a smaller bowl than I've had last time when I ordered it separately. It was still delicious with the chewy and spicy rice cakes. The cutlet was on the dry side but it was still good. It was served with a side of saucy penne pasta, a side of lettuce and other veggies, and some radish to clean my palate. Overall, it was a pretty good deal considering they gave us some complimentary noodles and soup with an abundance of their 6 side dishes. Services was great, our waiter checked up on us 3-4 times (not annoying) asking if everything was okay or if we needed any side dishes.

Probably the place you'd least expect to for a Japanese/Korean restaurant in a neighbourhood area but let me tell you - do not sleep on this restaurant! I've ordered takeout multiple times from this place and each and every time the food was amazing! I had to go dine-in to check them out and the food still did no disappoint. This is the definition of a thriving ma/pa restaurant that stems from hard working immigrants that can make amazing food. The lady that was serving us was so incredibly hospitable and kind - super generous and always saying thank you and being gracious. The food is 10/10 no matter what you get. The decor inside is very cozy and perfect for a meal with friends of family. I love how they have a combination of Japanese and Korean food, best of both world! Highly recommend checking this place out!

Sashimi Don with all the banchan - fresh & delicious!

Solid Korean Japanese fare, generous portions, fresh fish and vegetables, flavours are spot on. This is a mom and Pop run joint, and if either mom or pop come to take your order be prepared to be a little patient due to the language barrier as their first language is Korean. We had a bento box, sashimi don which came with gochijang sauce on the side and was huuge, and the tteokbokki with cheese. The sashimi don was very fresh, fresh fish and lots of fresh shredded veggies. The tteokbokki was reasonably sized but delicious - manageable spiciness level and balanced flavours (sometimes other places make it too sweet) and it came with a perfectly cooked egg (often they are overdone) and cabbage and fish cake. Food was great but service was a little slow for refilling tea, but they were pretty busy on a weeknight. Overall I would definitely recommend this place for the food!

You'll love the ambiance of the place. The food is great the owner is very nice.

I love their food. They also serve side dishes. The bento box is loaded with different dishes. We like the salmon and the glass noodles. They have different offers every day too. The bibimbap tastes good too.

The Sashimi & Teriyaki combination box, Tempura & Teriyaki, Tempura & Bulgogi, and the Spicy Grilled Duck

I ordered the Sashimi & Teriyaki combination box and it was delicious. The sashimi was great and the Teriyaki chicken was so good. I do recommend getting rice with it though because just the box may not be enough. But it really filled me up and was worth the price.

I wouldn't have tried this place if it weren't for my sister. I was craving Korean and rather than going to the typical Yonge/Finch area she suggested that we go here. The restaurant has Korean and Japanese food so we ordered a mixture of both. We ordered pork bone soup, takoyaki, and Malado roll. The ban chan here is pretty standard but what sets it apart from other restaurants is that we were given a small bowl of noodles in soup, which was perfect because it was cold outside that day. The portions here are on the bigger side. My sister and I split everything and we weren't able to finish, we had to take the Malado roll home. All the dishes we ordered tasted good and as I've said before, generous portions. The service is here is okay, exactly what you would expect in a Korean restaurant. Overall my experience here was good and I'm definitely coming back to try other food on the menu.

Cute small restaurant serving Korean and Japanese food. I've come here a few times, and I've had good experiences everytime. The small wooden booths have blinds that the server unfurls after bringing the food for privacy. Their bento boxes are a good value and they always bring so many side dishes (10 to be exact! Instagram cut some of)

Chicken katsu comes with rice salad and miso soup. Yummy!

Hidden gem! You gotta try it. I eat here 2-3 times a month. Boyfriend and I really love the somen appetizer. Temperature of the somen soup is not consistent as they keep the soup base in the hot water dispenser and just pour over the noodles when they're ready to serve you. I really love the soup especially when I'm so hungry and need something before the main dish actually comes out so I don't mind cold warm or hot somen . Best gamjatang I've ever tried, never disappoints me. Just the right amount of flavour and spice to it. Every bowl I got only had 1 piece of potatoe though which is fine not a big deal. Owner and servers are extremely friendly.

I came here on a friends recommendation and was not disappointed. Prices here for Korean or Japanese dish is well priced. Portions are great. I am always on a hunt for great JamJang and it is one of the tastiest for $10 My friend got the Salmon and Tempura bento box $12. They have a great tempura dipping sauce and sides included miso soup, chap chae, salad and 2 nice (?) rolls. Service was on point too!

Portions are small, so it's best to start with a round of tasting and then pick your favorites. Beef is definitely the star for grilling! I tried everything except beef tongue--everything else was flavorful, nicely cut, balanced fat and lean, and sliced thinly enough to cook in no time. Thicker steaks don't take long either. Pork belly is on the fattier side; it's okay when dipped in sauce and eaten with lettuce. Lamb tends to fall apart and is harder to grill, but the taste is still good. Seafood isn't the best for grilling overall--shrimp and squid are fairly mild, and grilling them dry doesn't make them particularly exciting. Salmon and clams are fine, nothing extraordinary. Among vegetables, zucchini and mushrooms are solid choices, and grilled pineapple is wonderfully sweet--especially delicious.

It's my go-to spot to get my don fix - I love the wide variety of dons (rice bowls) that they offer with various fish and seafood combinations. There are also unique appetizers in the menu, such as Purple Yam Croquettes, Crab Crackers, Braised Bamboo Shoots with Shirasu (immature whitebait fish), and Takowasa (marinated raw octopus pieces, to be eaten with or wrapped in nori / seaweed). Although the dons are the main highlight of their menu (hence the restaurant name), they also offer traditional sushi, sashimi, sushi rolls and sets (similar to other Japanese sushi restaurants). Miso Aburi Scallops were very flavourful - nicely torched, giving the scallops a nice grill / char taste. They came with red and green seaweed, and a bit of fish roe. Large Premium Hana Don contained a good amount of fish and seafood, including a whole abalone, uni, shrimp in the shell, aburi salmon, ikura (salmon roe), salmon sashimi, tuna sashimi, yellowtail sashimi, other various fish sashimi, tamago (egg), and a few slices of cucumber on a generous bed of rice. I liked that the rice was a mix of white rice and some type of dark-coloured grains. Unatama Don came with a big piece of unagi and tamago (egg) that were both excellent. The sashimi were all fresh. Okonomiyaki was disappointing but it was sort of expected... for only $9, it was about 99% just flour pan-fried in a patty, without any substantial fillings (unlike real okonomiyaki, which usually contains protein / seafood, cabbage, eggs, and other ingredients). Location is super convenient near Bay & Dundas, ambiance is very casual, and service is quick.

The fishes were plated very pretty and because it's sushi of course it tasted good. But I was surprised at the level of wasabi that was plated. Cleared up my sinuses for 30 seconds. The aburi-style salmon sushi was one of the highlights for me.. lightly seared, with a soft texture and just enough flavor on top without being overwhelming. The tuna tataki was also fresh and clean, simple but well done.
