L4 (sashimi & sushi roll box)
Nancy T.

This is my parents' go-to place, especially for the bento box at lunchtime. We always come here when we crave a bit of everything. The servers are very nice and attentive, but it's hard to reach them when it gets busy. The noise level is decent; it isn't too loud to talk to each other. My parents like to order the L4 (sushi roll & sashimi box); they will opt out of the rice and change to noodles. I sometimes like changing mine to majority salmon. There are times I've ordered the L6 (sushi tempura box), my second favorite. I ordered L7 (salmon, Bulgogi box) for the hubby, and he said it wasn't that great for takeout. Overall, we will still come back for their bento box.

Food is yummy. I like their lunch special. Service is fine. They would be more attentive. Ambiance is spacious but lot of food fly so I removed a star from the rating for this as it is not very appetizing to eat there with so many flies. I hope they manage better with the food flies and flies.

Came here on a weekday for lunch and it was packed. Did not have to wait for seats though. We were seated by the window and wished there was more air con or ventilation as it got really hot and warm. We were rushed to order since the kitchen is busy and the meals would take time which was fine. We got a roll bento and a sashimi bento. The variety was not bad but I wished the fish came out a bit cooler. It was a smidge warmer than room temp. The japchae glass noodles were great. Overall not sure if I will be back again for lunch.

We have been coming here for many years, and thoroughly impressed by the quality of food, the quantity, affordability, friendliness of the staff and cleanliness. Today, we were over the moon when they surprised us with a valuable that we accidently left here one month ago. They returned this item to us a few minutes after we sar down. To the staff at Gal's Sushi, thank you so much for keeping it safely over the past month and returning this item to us today!

Their take out is great. But now that their dinning room is back to being open there is a large variety of other foods you can get all in one sitting. They offer both Japanese and Korean dish. Their full menu items are all great too. I'd recommend it for groups and their service is wonderful as well. Overall a good experience.

Gal's Sushi is a Japanese and Korean Restaurant. For a couple of minutes, it was a hard choice to make: Japanese or Korean. I finally decided for a Korean dinner takeout. Inside the Restaurant, there is a good ambiance, although somewhat empty when I got in at 6.30 pm on a Thursday. There was busy traffic, though, for pickup orders. I went for Korea's most iconic dishes, the Bulgogi which translates to "fire meat" which is thinly sliced beef marinated in a savory, sweet, and umami-rich sauce, then grilled or pan-fried. It comes with white rice served separately and with 2 different side dishes. Happy I went with the Bulgogi which was a relatively large portion. I like the balance of sweetness and saltiness with impactful vibrant favours. Perhaps, just a tad too sweet for my liking. Good food, fast service, nice atmosphere, lots of free parking close by and they take credit card. I would go there again.

I have been going to Gal's sushi for a long time, since I was in high school! However, I stopped going for a while during COVID and recently started to come more again. I am pleasantly surprised by the quality and the prices here. I often come for lunch on Sundays and their lunch bentos are a very good deal. I usually get the bulgogi and sushi bento and it a great portion size and quite delicious. I feel like the fish is more fresh now than it has been in the past! I really enjoy their crab salad rolls that always come with the bentos. Recently, I also tried their sushi platter and I found that the quality was consistent there too. I've also tried their Korean food this year and found that it was tasty, although I think it is more worth it to order Japanese food from this establishment. Overall, a great spot for lunch!

Can't believe I haven't rated this place yet! Love Gals. A solid 4/5, go to place for lunch bento specials. I do love their cani crab rolls they're my fave (as they do have a little tempura crunch) in them as well :) They have plenty of bento lunch offers, and they're all quite filling and flavourful. Super friendly staff. Parking out back/in parking garage. Would always come back!

You can't get this Sushi in Boston. Simply amazing. Great place for a team lunch, good spirits and the ambiance was spot on. Service was ontop of all the asks and ad-hoc request!

Came here for lunch! They have some pretty decent lunch deals but their dinner prices are a bit high. I got the sashimi box and it was a pretty good deal - $13.99 for some sashimi, rolls, 4 pieces of sushi, white rice, some glass noodles, and a bowl of miso soup. It was very yummy and filling and the fish itself was better quality than I expected. The only caveat is that they charge double the price for this during their non lunch hours (11-3 pm). However, they did offer some specialty sushi sets that looked interesting to try and not too expensive ($30ish). Overall, food was better than expected and didn't completely kill the wallet! Would come back

Came here couple times for sushi. Good place for Japanese and Korean foods. Service is fast and attentive. Inside is cleanly maintained. Ordered sashimi and sushi combo and tempura, both are delicious, except the crab rolls. They also offer free Korean side dishes which are very tasty too.

Banchan, green salad, potatoes, miso soup, japchae

In my opinion Gals Sushi is one of the best places to grab sushi uptown. Their fish always tastes very fresh and they carry premium cuts! Their hot foods and rolls are also very delicious and they give you banchan when you order! What we ordered: Gal Combo (38 pcs) $59.99 Spider $19.99

Sushi and sashimi platter (40 pieces)

I've been here a few times, but this is my first time writing a review for this restaurant. This restaurant is located inside a plaza. This place gets very busy during lunchtime. There's a lot of variety of different food that you can order here. I ordered the sushi platter and shared it with another person. Sushi was fresh. They were in bite-size pieces, they also serve a few side dishes along with your order, jap chae and honey potatoes. This restaurant serves Japanese and Korean food. Your meal comes with a salad and miso soup. Inside it looks like Japanese inspired decor. My platter had 40 pieces of sushi although they were small, there was not a lot of variety of different fishes in the platter mostly salmon.

The menu features sashimi options SA1, SA2, SA3 and sushi options SU1, SU2, SU3 with prices and portion sizes, including images of each dish.

Bear in mind that when you do come here, the side dishes are limited to two free rounds. The main dishes however are large enough portions that you will probably need to take them home. Ambiance is casual, interior is clean, and service is fast and attentive. We ordered a couple of dishes and they all came out relatively quickly. The banchan (small side dishes) are refillable once only. My favourite banchan of the day were the bean sprouts and eggplant. There were lots of vegetarian and vegan options, such as the Steamed Vegetable Dumplings, Vegetables Bibimbap, Mushrooms Bibimbap, Vegetables Udon, Vegetables Fried Rice, Kimchi Pancake, Soondubu-jjigae (Soft Tofu Stew) in different variations, and more. The menu was pretty extensive, covering the most typical Korean dishes from the stews and grilled items, to a few Korean-Chinese dishes (such as Jajangmyeon) and everything in between. Steamed Vegetables Dumplings were quite small individually, but came in a sizeable portion. I liked the green onion garnish. Taste-wise, they were alright. Vegetables Bibimbap was excellent - good amount of mixed vegetables (spinach, zucchini, mushrooms, carrot strips, lettuce, bean sprouts) and the fried egg was perfectly crispy on the outer edges, with a still gooey and runny yolk. Grilled Croaker was also decent. It had a lot of small bones as it was a whole fish. It came served with purple rice, and we chose to add on extra lettuce. Seafood Knife Cut Noodles came in a big portion - with lots of slippery, thick udon noodles, pieces of seafood (mussels, clams, squid, shrimps, octopus), and a little big of vegetables (zucchini, carrot, onion). They came in a nice seafood-infused broth - perfect for a cold winter day. I'd come again for the variety of menu items they offer (especially the wide selection of vegetarian options), satisfying tastes, and great & efficient service.

The tteokbokki was nice and had a deep flavor. Not too spicy and not too sweet. Rice balls was nice and soaked up the tteokbokki sauce. We love how the sides are refillable but I don't think we ever ask for refills more than twice as the portion is so generous. Hanyang Jokbal has always been consistently good, and it's why we always come back. The portion of food is always plenty, the taste is unmatched and the sides are delicious. While the food took some time it was understandable as it was very busy. The waiter was very apologetic about the wait. In terms of the interior, it's just one more thing that makes this place such a good dining option. The interior makes you feel like you're not in Toronto. While it does get quite loud, I think it just shows how much people are enjoying the food and the vibe. Hanyang Jokbal is definitely a must!

This spot is solid for a classic pork bone soup... it's usually all I ever get when I go to Korean restaurants so I can't speak to the other offerings but my meal here definitely hit the spot. They were speedy with attending to us when needed, and the worker even told us to let her know if we needed a refill on side dishes (based on my experience at other Korean restos, it's unspoken and you feel like they're hoping you don't ask them). The service was super friendly... the lady always came to us with a smile which was really warm and welcoming. The space is clean and I noticed their traffic seems to come and go in waves so wait times may be unpredictable but it didn't seem that anyone had to wait long before being seated. Ample parking in the plaza as well. Prices are fair ($15.99 for gamjatang). Highly recommend!

We ordered the bossam, seafood pancake, and budae jeongol and the bill came to ~$100. The bossam was quite a large portion and the flavour was quite delicious. Our favourite item was the seafood pancake. We devoured that and if given a choice to only order one dish, I would definitely recommend the seafood pancake. The budae jeongol (as a solo dish) could easily feed two people. They pack the soup in two large circular soup-like takeout containers and the ingredients in a square container - same as the ones that the bossam and seafood pancake came in. There were plenty of tteokbokki, sausages, cabbage, and ramen noodles. We put the dish together in a wok and kept it heated on a portable induction cooktop. They gave four containers of banchan: fish cakes, japchae, radish kimchi, and mandu. My only complaint about this experience (4.5/5) was their inaccurate waiting time. I called in around 5 PM on a Wednesday to place my order and they quoted that the order would take around 20 to 25 minutes. I showed up ~30 mins after I called and they didn't have the food ready until 5:50/5:55 PM. I understand that they're busy, but I would have appreciated a more accurate wait time.

I usually call in advance to order and pick up. Things that I love the most: Pork bone soup 5/5 - So hearty and tasty. On the spicier side but a must get! I usually get their hot pot size of pork bone soup to share with others. It comes with lots of pork bones and a huge piece of potato. Bossom 5/5 - I love their bossom here. The only complain is that their bossom comes with lettuce rather than napa cabbage. Still super delicious though. Banchans 5/5 - Their kimchi is the best banchan they have. I often times also buy just their kimchi to take home as it's very garlicky, fresh and delicious. Spicy pork rice 3.5/5 - A good rice option, but I still prefer their soup better. Jajangmein 3.5/5 - Another one of those dishes that I can skip. Only get it so that we can have a variety saucey noodle dish. I can't recommend this spot enough. Make sure to get their kimchi! But also make sure to check your order before leaving. One time I was there, there was a flustered teenager working the front of house. Because I'm a regular there, I touched my order he handed to me and noticed there was no hot soup burning my hand while holding the take out bag. When I brought this up, the chef came out and also mentioned that he had forgotten to pack my two containers of soup. Thank goodness I checked. Unfortunately when I got home, I noticed that he also forgot to pack my two white rice that comes with my soup. So just make sure to double and triple check before leaving when you get your take out! Other than that, it's a solid 5/5 for me!

This time I opted to have their ramen gamjatang. My husband got their combo (kimchi stew with mackerel). Once we placed our order, we got the complimentary banchan (potato noodles, spicy cucumber, seaweed, kimchi and pancake). The banchan was not as fresh as the ones we used to experience at their Bamburgh Circle location (so sad that this location closed) but was still good & edible. My gamjatang arrived piping hot & the portion was massive. The flavor of the broth was missing the depth of the Bamburgh location but it was still delicious. The portion was so huge that I didn't finish my bowl like I normally do. My husband thoroughly enjoyed his meal especially the mackerel. He said it's the best grilled fish he's had. It was charred well yet the flesh of the fish was still moist. The service was fine. Nothing to rave about. They did their job of taking our order and bringing our food to us. Nothing special. The only compliant that we had is that they were organizing the dishes and cutlery behind the counter making a lot of clanging noises which isn't pleasant while trying to enjoy our dinner. Another substantial dish is the steamed pork bo saam ($49.99 for large) where slices of pork belly are kept warm on a hot plate. Diners tuck these soft meat slices into lettuce, Napa cabbage, and turnip with a smear of the savoury bean sauce for a protein packed bite. Our table was split about the haemui pa jeon ($28.99). The size of a medium pizza, it's made for a group. Personally, I found it way too thick and didn't contain enough ingredients to balance out the doughiness of the Korean style pancake. Conversely, my relatives preferred the heft as it contrasted the crispy exterior and soft interior. I guess it depends if you're a thin versus pan crust type of pizza lover. I'm firmly in the Neapolitan camp. I thoroughly enjoyed the crust that develops on the bottom of yachae dolsot bibimbap ($18.99). And the hot stone rice bowl contained a good combination of ingredients to ensure there was plenty of vegetables and beef to go around. De Chou's LA kalbi ($34.99) was rather neutral with very little sauce, so you mostly taste the beef. I personally would have preferred more sauce to help caramelize onto the beef ribs, but the older members of the family appreciated the plainness and liked that it was tender. (3/5) De Chou Korean Restaurant - Lunch Review…read more We stopped by De Chou Korean Restaurant for lunch today since we happened to be nearby. The sign said it opens at 11:30 a.m., and true to their word, the doors opened exactly on time. The restaurant itself is quite large and impressively clean -- that was my first good impression. We originally went in because of the sign outside advertising Korean ginseng chicken soup, but when we asked the server, he told us it's no longer on the menu. A bit disappointing, especially since my wife wasn't feeling well and I thought that soup would've been perfect for her. We ordered two Bulgogi Dolsot Bibimbaps ($21.99 each). The portion was decent, but the flavor was a bit bland and not salty enough for our taste -- overall I'd give it a 6/10. We also tried the Japchae ($13.99). Unfortunately, it was too greasy, a bit slimy, and overcooked -- about a 4/10 for me. They served five small side dishes, which were just average (5/10), and a small cup of noodle soup that was lukewarm and slightly sweet -- not to my liking, as I prefer savory over sweet in Korean food. The total came to $65.51 before tip, and we left a standard 15%. To be fair, by the time we finished lunch, there were quite a few tables filled, so maybe other dishes are better. But based on what we ordered today, the food didn't live up to the price. Would I go again? Probably not.
