Great sushi and box lunch specials. We got some of the potato's and glass noodles to go. Huge portion. Clean restaurant and the ambiance is very Japanese.
This is a Japanese Korean fusion restaurant. I recently came here for their 20th anniversary special where everything was 30% off (at certain happy hours). Cash only. We were served some potato and japchae side dish as well as miso soup and a small salad. These were quite good. There is also green tea. The food in general is good. I'd recommend the pork bone soup, the seafood pancake, gyoza, and some of the sushi. I'd skip the chicken teriyaki. The service is a bit slow since there are very few servers and this place can get busy depending on the time of day. Price is above average, but they have discounts or specials, so it generally ends up being quite good. The inside is spacious and there is plentiful seating.
This is my parents' go-to place, especially for the bento box at lunchtime. We always come here when we crave a bit of everything. The servers are very nice and attentive, but it's hard to reach them when it gets busy. The noise level is decent; it isn't too loud to talk to each other. My parents like to order the L4 (sushi roll & sashimi box); they will opt out of the rice and change to noodles. I sometimes like changing mine to majority salmon. There are times I've ordered the L6 (sushi tempura box), my second favorite. I ordered L7 (salmon, Bulgogi box) for the hubby, and he said it wasn't that great for takeout. Overall, we will still come back for their bento box.
Food is yummy. I like their lunch special. Service is fine. They would be more attentive. Ambiance is spacious but lot of food fly so I removed a star from the rating for this as it is not very appetizing to eat there with so many flies. I hope they manage better with the food flies and flies.
Came here on a weekday for lunch and it was packed. Did not have to wait for seats though. We were seated by the window and wished there was more air con or ventilation as it got really hot and warm. We were rushed to order since the kitchen is busy and the meals would take time which was fine. We got a roll bento and a sashimi bento. The variety was not bad but I wished the fish came out a bit cooler. It was a smidge warmer than room temp. The japchae glass noodles were great. Overall not sure if I will be back again for lunch.
We have been coming here for many years, and thoroughly impressed by the quality of food, the quantity, affordability, friendliness of the staff and cleanliness. Today, we were over the moon when they surprised us with a valuable that we accidently left here one month ago. They returned this item to us a few minutes after we sar down. To the staff at Gal's Sushi, thank you so much for keeping it safely over the past month and returning this item to us today!
Their take out is great. But now that their dinning room is back to being open there is a large variety of other foods you can get all in one sitting. They offer both Japanese and Korean dish. Their full menu items are all great too. I'd recommend it for groups and their service is wonderful as well. Overall a good experience.
Gal's Sushi is a Japanese and Korean Restaurant. For a couple of minutes, it was a hard choice to make: Japanese or Korean. I finally decided for a Korean dinner takeout. Inside the Restaurant, there is a good ambiance, although somewhat empty when I got in at 6.30 pm on a Thursday. There was busy traffic, though, for pickup orders. I went for Korea's most iconic dishes, the Bulgogi which translates to "fire meat" which is thinly sliced beef marinated in a savory, sweet, and umami-rich sauce, then grilled or pan-fried. It comes with white rice served separately and with 2 different side dishes. Happy I went with the Bulgogi which was a relatively large portion. I like the balance of sweetness and saltiness with impactful vibrant favours. Perhaps, just a tad too sweet for my liking. Good food, fast service, nice atmosphere, lots of free parking close by and they take credit card. I would go there again.
I have been going to Gal's sushi for a long time, since I was in high school! However, I stopped going for a while during COVID and recently started to come more again. I am pleasantly surprised by the quality and the prices here. I often come for lunch on Sundays and their lunch bentos are a very good deal. I usually get the bulgogi and sushi bento and it a great portion size and quite delicious. I feel like the fish is more fresh now than it has been in the past! I really enjoy their crab salad rolls that always come with the bentos. Recently, I also tried their sushi platter and I found that the quality was consistent there too. I've also tried their Korean food this year and found that it was tasty, although I think it is more worth it to order Japanese food from this establishment. Overall, a great spot for lunch!
Can't believe I haven't rated this place yet! Love Gals. A solid 4/5, go to place for lunch bento specials. I do love their cani crab rolls they're my fave (as they do have a little tempura crunch) in them as well :) They have plenty of bento lunch offers, and they're all quite filling and flavourful. Super friendly staff. Parking out back/in parking garage. Would always come back!
You can't get this Sushi in Boston. Simply amazing. Great place for a team lunch, good spirits and the ambiance was spot on. Service was ontop of all the asks and ad-hoc request!
Came here for lunch! They have some pretty decent lunch deals but their dinner prices are a bit high. I got the sashimi box and it was a pretty good deal - $13.99 for some sashimi, rolls, 4 pieces of sushi, white rice, some glass noodles, and a bowl of miso soup. It was very yummy and filling and the fish itself was better quality than I expected. The only caveat is that they charge double the price for this during their non lunch hours (11-3 pm). However, they did offer some specialty sushi sets that looked interesting to try and not too expensive ($30ish). Overall, food was better than expected and didn't completely kill the wallet! Would come back
Came here couple times for sushi. Good place for Japanese and Korean foods. Service is fast and attentive. Inside is cleanly maintained. Ordered sashimi and sushi combo and tempura, both are delicious, except the crab rolls. They also offer free Korean side dishes which are very tasty too.
First time ordering sushi from this restaurant. They offer a lunch special with a variety of bento box meals. We ordered L3, L4 and K5 and they were all fantastic and very filling. I would definitely recommend their lunch special. Also , if you pay cash you can get a 10% discount. Enjoy read more

The complementary miso soup, japchae noodles and potatoes were delicious. The japchae tasted so good I was tempted to ask for refills! The potatoes were also different from the usual potato sides you would expect at a Korean restaurant, as these ones are fried. Although they were different, it was still so tasty! The seafood pancake here was amazing, as it was really light and fluffy. There were chunks of seafood in it, and was definitely a big portion. I also ordered the roll bento box, and loved the shrimp roll in it! Other than that, the bento box was not good as the salmon was over-cooked, the rice tasted like it was made this morning and the other tempura shrimp roll/salmon roll did not taste fresh and crisp like tempura should be. The bibimbap rice according to my friend was also average, as the stone pot was not even hot and did not have many ingredients in it. If I was to come again it would be for the seafood pancake and the two potato and japchae noodle sides! read more

I enjoyed Gal's sushi! For my partner and I, we asked the waitress how much food would be enough and she recommended the 40 piece platter. This was still quite a lot of food for the both of us and we were very full after! The sushi was well sliced and had a nice variety. I often don't see octopus on these types of platters or the abundance of fish egg so that was a pleasant surprise. There was a piece of sushi that was very nicely textured. I think it's salmon belly? But would recommend. The atmosphere was nice and I'd come back again! read more
I was like "I'm gonna only have like 10 pieces, just get the smaller count one" at first, as the only time I ever have sushi was at ayce and didn't really like it. We ended up ordering takeout and got the 50pcs set and I ended up having two thirds of it. XP It was delicious and completely different from what I had in the past. I am very satisfied with service and quality of food here. I appreciate their efforts that had been taken to keep everyone safe (The take out area is section off away from the dine in area) I will be coming back again but next time will order more as I now enjoy having sushi a lot more. =D The restaurant's entrance is located on the north facing side of the building. read more
A well-known sushi restaurant near Downtown Markham with plenty of seating indoors and food options for both sushi and Korean food. It's usually busiest during weekday lunches and weekends and I would say their lunch bento boxes are the best in value. Service is generally quick and they usually get a lot of takeout orders as well. Note that if you order takeout for the bento box, it does not include the soup and salad. This place is a safe choice for those who are craving sushi but don't necessarily wanna spend too much money! Parking is a bit of a hassle in this busy plaza but you can enter this restaurant from the main entrance (closest to Highway 7) or through the back - the restaurant is connected to a hallway that leads to the main parking area. read more
Freshness on point! Service is even better than before! Placed my order over the phone for the first time because UberEats was charging almost $20 of service fees before delivery + inflated taxes. Don't regret it one bit! The lady over the phone was extremely patient with me as she clarified which size I wanted for everything I ordered just to ensure accuracy. (i.e. Shrimp Tempura, appetizer & Kalbi, with or without bone) I also ordered TBC2. Chan Combo 60 pieces, one of their Best Choice Trays that includes their specialty sashimi, sushi, and rolls. I've dined in many times before I'd say over a year ago, and they were never my first pick. I mostly came here because they opened late. This takeout experience has proven that they've really stepped up their game. I'm thoroughly impressed, and will be back real soon!! read more
I was flitting between 4 and 5 stars for a very long time. On one hand, this place has been around for awhile and I've never had a huge urge to write about it. On the other hand, I just realized that in the last week, I've been 3 times. Welp. Gal's is becoming, if not already, an establishment in Markham. It's a place for quality Japanese and Korean food rolled into a fast-paced, efficient, friendly package. In the many, many times I've come since its opening, I've never had an issue with either the food or service. I have no doubt anything you order will be delicious but here are some of my time-tested favourites. Any of the "Best Choice" trays: Seriously, it says "best choice" in its name. And they mean it. This is the premium plate with uni, hamachi, o-toro, salmon belly, etc. Pricey, but not as pricey as you'd think for the kinda stuff you're getting. Chirashi: Gal's has the best Chirashi of any place I've ordered it from. It's simple, really. Good selection of satisfying, meaty pieces of fresh sashimi, all on top a bed of SEASONED rice. The seasoning really kicks this up a notch for me. Gamjatang: It's a sweater for your soul. After the first bite, you think that the menu misled you by saying this isn't a spicy dish. It has quite a kick. But by the third bite, the fire becomes cozy liquid warmth that fills your mouth with flavour and tender pork. There's no better dish for the winter and Gal's version is so satisfying, it's the reason I went back more than once a week. On top of these, I can say their bento boxes are A-OK, especially for lunch, and their rolls are well crafted. This place is always bustling at dinner time but the little bell at your table helps to grab the server's attention. What can I say? I'll probably be back next week. Maybe the one after that too. Covid-19 edition... I've been missing sushi for so long since the pandemic started so therefore all we can do for now is take-out because I personally don't feel safe eating in just yet. 10% off if you pay in cash. Server answered the call quickly and told me that my order would be ready in about 15-20 minutes. Sometimes, you just gotta splurge a little to get the good stuff, so I got the "best choice trays", specifically TBC1. GAL COMBI 38pcs (sashimi 20pcs & sushi 12pcs & roll 6pcs). It includes specialty sashimi etc such as uni, tuna, hamachi, amaebi, scallop, spicy scallop, rainbow, dynamite ($45.99). I also got their fish egg bibimbap which comes with an assortment of fish eggs on steamed rice ($14.99). Sushi here is always fresh, although the fish egg bibimbap wasn't anything spectacular, felt like something I can make at home, but still pretty good. The order also came with a small assortment of traditional korean side dishes, they seem to be much smaller than if you were to dine in though I can't wait to come back again! read more

A cockroach crawled across the table and onto the wall during dinner last night. For a place that serves raw fish, the cockroach speaks to the lack of cleanliness. Major health hazard. Staff did remove to cockroach and apologize but definitely never going back. read more
Great tasting sushi and sashimi made from fresh ingredients, but a little in the pricier side. I came for dinner and between the 4 of us we ordered a large 72 piece sushi/sashimi platter to share and we also got some maki rolls. The meal came with complementary miso soup, garden salad, and also some Korean side dishes. Even though 72 pieces seemed like a lot of food, but a good amount of it was actually sashimi pieces, so we actually finished everything we ordered. The sashimi pieces were mostly fresh, and it contained fish such as salmon, white tuna, real tuna, red snapper, mackerel, and yellow tail. The rolls we ordered were pretty standard, decent proportion of filling vs. rice. I noticed that some of the appetizers and tempura were really expensive here. For example, a plate of beef short ribs is $15 and from the picture it seems that they only give you 4 or 5 pieces of it. Tempura were rough $10 each as well, definitely way better deal to get them elsewhere at an AYCE restaurant. Overall, this restaurant offers standard, great tasting sushi and sashimi. Though the prices are on the higher end than what I usually pay read more

I've been here a couple of times now. First time was great the second was kinda mediocre. I noticed people either love love love this place or think it's just meh. From what I had, they are both right! I ordered the same things both times. Both times tempura app was over fried. Everything was dried out and weirdly hard and mushy. . Not the fluffy coating and crispy vegetables. So I have to say, pass on tempura. I got the sushi tray. Sa1 I think. First time fresh bursting with flavour, vibrant coloured fish. This meal was earlier dinner on a Monday. Next time was later on a Saturday. Dull courses fish, tasted not as new and tasted more fishy. So. I guess it depends when you go. I'll be back but beindful what day and time I visit. Ill update my review to reflect it. For now. It's a solid three. Average for a 4 and a 2 star meal. Oh yeah parking sucks. Get someone else to drive. read more
Been here several times. I wouldn't say they are really good or really bad...I have yet to try the korean soups but sushi-wise they are ok. I usually go for the bento boxes for lunch but on rare occassions (like twice now) I have a big appetite and order a 40 pc platter for myself :P (yes the waiters/waitresses always question me if I can finish and to their surprise I always did, both times) the sushi and sashimi are usually ok but it isnt the same as ayce locations...but it will suffice when you aren't able to travel far to another sushi/sashimi location. Service has never been bad even during busy times. Of course, when it gets busier, their checking back frequency greatly diminishes but oh well. Usually food is fine anyway so don't need too many follow-ups. I have yet to try their korean soups and they have the Yuk Gae Jang so I will definitely try that out next time! I shall see how it compares to other korean restaurants although, hands down, I am suspecting it will not be as good as korean restaurants haha but we shall see! read more
Had to drive to Markham for some business so dropped by this place for dinner. The rolls were very stuffing with thin rice layer. Ingredients were fresh too. Good layout and service. Will definitely revisit next time when around. read more
This is a Korean owned sushi restsurant. It is really busy and the food is decent. I like coming for lunch as it is a pretty good deal to get a sashimi bento for $11. The food comes fast and service is decent. I have not tried any of the Korean dishes at this place so I will not comment. During dinner they serve you some Korean side dishes while they make you food. This is in addition to the standard miso soup and a small salad. My favourite side dish is the glass noodles. They will give you a refill if you ask!!! Yum! No side dishes for lunch, but miso and salad still comes fyi. Overall decent place to grab a quick lunch. Get there early because it will get busy. Or book a table. Enjoy! read more
I live around here. So this is my to go to spot for sushi. I was super happy that I found good quality of sushi and sashimi for the price that I pay for. If you don't want to pay overpriced sushi. This is the place. I am super satisfied by the price and quality. You can get the same quality at other places but for more pricy. read more
This is restaurant in a convenient location if you are near Markham Civic Centre. The menu offers a variety of Korean and Japanese dishes. You can have sushi, bento box dinner or a pork bone soup. A quiet time to visit would be early in the week. I opted for the latter. Along with green tea there were small appetizers including a cold vermicelli dish and salad. The serving of pork bone was enough for a large meal. Barely managed to finish. It was more than enough for dinner. From what I see from other reviews it generally a good experience in terms of food. On this occasion this holds true. read more
I have been to Gal's Sushi many times than I can count and their sushi is decent. The best deals are their lunch specials. Dinner on the other hand it somewhat too expensive for me in my opinion. Their roll/sushi to price ratio is quite up there compared to other sushi places. Basic rolls are no different than anywhere else. Personally the lunch bentos with sushi/sashimi and the rolls bento are the best. Decor is quite nice and the restaurant is nice and spacious. Parking on the other hand can be a handful. Food came in a timely manner. But for dinner it can be quite busy just to get a table yet order and get your food. read more

If you want cheap sushi, the lunch menu at Gal's is a good place to start. Their lunch bento box combos come with a salad, miso soup, sweet potatoes and clear glass noodles. You are able to choose from multiple different choices of sushi, sashimi, tempura, beef, chicken or grilled salmon. The bento boxes range from $10-14. The sushi is subpar, but it's a good place for a quick bite. read more
This is a review long overdue! My bf and I've been coming here every couple of months since covid times (so this is a post-covid review!). So far we've tried their dinner sets and sashimi combos and they've always been consistent in quality and freshness. I like their extra touches on the sashimi like the sprinkle of gold flakes on the tuna and the sesame seeds on the salmon. I find the prices here are comparable to other sushi spots in the area and the quality is also comparable. read more

Amazing sushi quality at an affordable price. I have gone to a lot more expensive sushi joints that charge way more than Gals. Went there for the first time a few days ago and definitely won't be my last. The service was a tad bit slow, but this was also dinner time on a Friday so the place was packed. 10/10 would recommend. read more

This review is based on takeout Party Tray Order. Highly recommend their party tray of mix sashimi, sushi and sashimi. Price is compatible to other takeout in smaller Japanese restaurants but the quality, selection and even quantity is much better. 10% on cash order and 1 day pre order over $30 comes with complimentary salad. Now this is going to be the take out place if I having a party or want to have a tray of sushi all for myself. read more
Standard and fresh sushi in Markham, I always visit Gal's for their sushi combos. Located off Hwy 7, Gals looks pretty typical for a sushi joint. Service is good with the servers being quick and respectful. There used to be waiting time on busy nights but recently I've been able to grab a seat walking in on any night. I usually go for one of the sushi combos which can consist of a mix sushi, sashimi or rolls. I've always found their sushi and sashimi fresh and definitely a step above ayce places. Takeout sushi actually works pretty well here and you get a discount if you pay cash! The also serve a number of hot dishes like Korean soup based dishes, dumplings, dons, noodles and more. I think pricing is reasonable. Ordering comes with free soup, salad and a few Korean side dishes. I'd recommend trying if you're in Markham and looking for some good sushi. read more
So I have been going to gals sushi for ten years now... always been a favourite. I do miss the old days when it was cheaper, but prices generally have stayed the same for dinner (which was expensive in the first place) My favourite is going here for their lunch specials because you get everything you get at dinner for a cheaper price. The pork bone soup here does not compare with anywhere else, mostly because it is so meaty tasting with the right amount of peppercorn. The meat falls off the bone and includes rice cakes (my favourite) I am a fan of their spicy tuna roll, and their deep fried yam roll because they have great flavour plus a freshness. Their glass noodle japchae and potatoes appetizer has always been a staple and the predictability of it is nice when I'm craving their potatoes. I will keep coming here as a default go to and hoping it doesn't change too much in the future!! read more
Arguably the best value sushi in GTA! Gal's Best Choice Combo is my recommendation, as for a similar price per piece to other combos, it has uni, o-toro, unagi, salmon belly, and so on. Since there is a high customer base, the fish is very fresh! If you're not too big of a fan of sushi, there's also Korean options such Bulgogi and Soon Tofu. Great for a big or small group alike! read more
I have been coming to as Gal's for a few years now. It has always been a great place to have lunch, dinner or order takeout from. The staff are mostly very pleasant and quick when it comes to serve you. They are knowledgeable of their menu and always serve you with a smile. Their menu has some options that are more affordable and some that are a little bit more pricey. I find their food delicious and worth the price. The sashimi has always been fresh in my experience and their portion sizes are good. The food is always presented nicely and looks very appetizing! The seating area can be a little small if you are seated at a booth but it isn't too bad. Parking can be a bit of a hassle during busy hours but their is underground parking! When it comes to pick up or delivery I would suggest you to come pick it up yourself and order by phone as Doordash ups the price by a whole dollar and charges you a delivery fee. This is obviously not a reflection of Gals but more of a suggestion for those who wish to do take out. read more
This is our regular go to place for a good Japanese lunch. Came here around 12:30pm today and as usual it was pretty busy. Luckily we still got a table. Even if it's full, the wait time should not be too long as the food is served super fast. The lunch deals here are amazing - sashimi lunch bento with miso soup and salad for only $9.99. We got 2 sets and one order of the takoyaki (fried octopus balls) which I always have to get if I come here. The sashimi was really fresh and love the Japchae (Korean style sweet potatoes noodles stir fried in sesame oil and veggies) and the rolls that are part of the lunch set. That's a price that's difficult to beat! read more

Knowing Gal's was amazing, this was where I had taken my girlfriend on our first date. Fast forward 10 months later and here we are again. The food is always so fresh and so delicious; never had any complaints. They're very busy during lunch hours so make sure you get here early! One thing I really like is that they have this button you can press to call the servers. Quick and efficient. Gal's will always be a special place for me. read more

TLDR: Good Service, vast selection of both Korean and Japanese dishes, complementary miso soup and salad, decently priced. I came here on a Saturday evening with a friend. It was pretty busy, but we were greeted immediately and managed to find a seated fairly quickly. My friend and I ordered A4 (assorted sushi & 3 rolls - $33) - this was a set - so I asked what rolls came with it - it comes with spicy crab, dynamite and the rainbow roll. I wasn't a fan of spicy crab, so I asked them if I could change it to spicy salmon - the server said she will check how much it would be to change it and let me know. She came back almost immediately and told me it would be an extra dollar, which isn't bad! We also ordered a side of Uni sashimi ($12) - last time we came here, they sold out! Anyways, the food here is quite fresh and made very well - not too much rice on the rolls, nothing fell apart, the wasabi was actually spicy! :) read more
