Vegetarian Bibimbap with fried egg on top
    Sel Z.

What a hidden gem and great addition to the neighbourhood! There aren't many Asian restaurants / food places in this area (especially Korean), so Oja is certainly a very welcomed addition. The place is simple, humble, and caters to mostly take-out. There are a couple of small tables and chairs for dine-in. The food is comparable (or even better in some aspects) to the ones in full-fledged Korean restaurants in Koreatown on Bloor St. West and North York - authentic, delicous-tasting, great portion size, high-quality, and all-around satisfying. They make the food fresh to order, and it tastes very homemade (like it was cooked in someone's home). Their menu is sizeable and contains some typical Korean street food - offering the traditional bibimbap, kimchi fried rice, and gimbap, to japchae, yubu cho bap, and tteokbokki. There are vegetarian options / variations of the dishes. They also have breakfast items such as Korean breakfast sandwiches and breakfast combos - perfect for those who work or study in the area, and need something quick, nutritious, and filling. There is a small shelf of Korean snacks such as ramen and chips (like the ones in convenience stores). There are also a microwave and hot water available for you to make and eat your ramen there - how convenient. Their stand-out wins (in my opinion) are the bibimbap, gimbap, and yubu cho bap. I loved the runny egg yolk and mix of vegetables in the Vegetarian Bibimbap. Their Tuna Salad Gimbap was one of the best I've had - large, lots of great fillings (egg, veggies), good rice to content ratio, very flavourful with the seaweed and sesame seeds, and the tuna salad was not laden with mayo like in some other places. They even added a bit of japchae as an extra to both the bibimbap and gimbap. Vegetables Japchae was flavourful with nicely chewy glass noodles, but wish there were more vegetables. The Tuna Yubuchobap contained spicy mayo inside so it had a bit of a kick. The bean curd skin wrapping around the rice was good. It's a bonus that they provide eco-friendly takeout packaging (recyclable plastic containers, not the black plastic ones, and recyclable brown paper bags). The disposable cutleries they provide are also the compostable wooden ones. They get extra points for environmentally friendly business practice! Extra Yelp stars and thumbs up for that.

The city/financial district is finally getting more korean food!! Randomly stumbled upon this cute korean restaurant and I was craving for bibimbap. It's definitely a bit pricey but it's decent size. I added $2 for beef, so it turned out to be $17.95 before tax. Normally, restaurants would give more rice than toppings but this is just about right. The toppings are all flavourful, but definitely a bit saltier. Will definitely come back!

small convenience store area with ramyun and other snacks for purchase!

got the spicy pork kimbap and ordered bulgogi today. the kimbap was actually surprisingly filling! it comes with a small cluster of japchae in the box as well. i'm pretty sure this is quite literally a mom and pop shop -- i've so far only seen this one couple take the order and make the food. so, come with patience! they make things as ordered, but i feel like they might eventually have some ready made items that you can grab and pay for quickly. when coming and it's not busy (come before noon to beat the lunch rush!), it still takes about 10 minutes to order and receive food. there are a few spots to sit here and a small convenience store area for things like choco pies, chestnuts, and various ramyun!

There's no reservation system but they do have a waitlist on Yelp which gets you in line (highly recommended). First to know is you can't pay with credit card here--there's an ATM in the front of the restaurant. As far as the restaurant goes, it was fantastic from start to finish. Our table of 4 was seated and serviced by 1 main staff member, Lydia, who talked us through the whole menu and ordering system, recommended some great starts and then kept us frequently updated all throughout dinner. She checked up on us along with her assistants who were also bringing items and servicing the table. The food quality was excellent with juicy and flavorful cuts of beef along with the shrimp, pork, veggies, side dishes/ponchon, and rice--it kept coming consistently. Grill changes were frequent as well. The atmosphere is lively and there are a lot of servers so you aren't trying get someone's attention all the time. But it doesn't feel too cramped at the same time. As it is AYCE, everyone in our group left full of course and enjoyed each course. I liked the almond tofu at the end! ----TL;DR---- Pros: great selection of meats, quality was top notch, huge portions of course as it is AYCE, service was prompt and all staff were really friendly. Cons: no reservations so need to be on a waitlist. The no credit card system is a bit of an inconvenience. Bottom Line: we loved it--definitely would go back again and enjoy more of their selections! You have to try them if you like meat and AYCE!

It's my go-to spot to get my don fix - I love the wide variety of dons (rice bowls) that they offer with various fish and seafood combinations. There are also unique appetizers in the menu, such as Purple Yam Croquettes, Crab Crackers, Braised Bamboo Shoots with Shirasu (immature whitebait fish), and Takowasa (marinated raw octopus pieces, to be eaten with or wrapped in nori / seaweed). Although the dons are the main highlight of their menu (hence the restaurant name), they also offer traditional sushi, sashimi, sushi rolls and sets (similar to other Japanese sushi restaurants). Miso Aburi Scallops were very flavourful - nicely torched, giving the scallops a nice grill / char taste. They came with red and green seaweed, and a bit of fish roe. Large Premium Hana Don contained a good amount of fish and seafood, including a whole abalone, uni, shrimp in the shell, aburi salmon, ikura (salmon roe), salmon sashimi, tuna sashimi, yellowtail sashimi, other various fish sashimi, tamago (egg), and a few slices of cucumber on a generous bed of rice. I liked that the rice was a mix of white rice and some type of dark-coloured grains. Unatama Don came with a big piece of unagi and tamago (egg) that were both excellent. The sashimi were all fresh. Okonomiyaki was disappointing but it was sort of expected... for only $9, it was about 99% just flour pan-fried in a patty, without any substantial fillings (unlike real okonomiyaki, which usually contains protein / seafood, cabbage, eggs, and other ingredients). Location is super convenient near Bay & Dundas, ambiance is very casual, and service is quick.

The ambience of the restaurant is chill, plenty of seating. It can get loud when it's full, but that's the vibe. I was stuck between the sweet shrimp bowl and the uni bowl.... I think i like the uni/ikura/scallops combo a lot more than the sweet shrimp. I love the taste of the rice bowls! absolutely will come back in my next trip to Toronto!

We got a bunch of dishes to share and overall liked most things but some things (like the oyster) unfortunately didn't hit as well. Wagyu - thin slices but very tender and very flavorful with the cheese - surprised by how well the flavor combo worked out. Tofu - easily one of my fave agedashi tofu. Huge tofu slices with very chewy outer texture, a bit gelatinous . Really went well with the sauce and toppings Carbonara - nice chewy texture to the udon, not too soft and not too firm. The sauce was nice and creamy. Not as truffley as I thought it would be, wish it was a little more but it was still pretty good Oyster - least favorite of all the dishes we got today. It was a bit sour and the cheese felt like it didn't really help the flavor profile of the oysters. It was super oily from the cheese, felt like it was drowning in cheese/oil flavor Cod - it looks good but something is lacking, maybe in taste? Feel like maybe the marinade did not penetrate enough. The texture is still nice and soft , with a crisp skin . Also was a bit too oily for our liking, compared to other miso cod we have had. It was also a relatively smaller piece of cod. Overall, the appetizers were really good! The oyster and cod were a bit disappointing. Would come back for the carbonara and the other appetizers mentioned though!
