Sorry folks but this was not a good experience. Don't think I would give them a second chance. I'm trying to be honest with this review and not just bash them. We live in West Salem and have been driving by this place for a while. We finally decided to give this place a try. The young lady at the counter seemed distant, like she wasn't really interested in wanting to help us. We ordered the Huli Huli Chicken and the Chicken and Vegetables dishes to eat in. The place is cold inside and it seemed to be a converted garage or something with garage doors as the store front. Grey concrete floors with a sign at each table that said you only get 30 minutes to eat. There was nobody else in the restaurant while we were there. Next to the counter was a garbage can with no lid that was full. The food was very quick coming out. Somebody just ran over to us and kind of threw the food to us at our table. When we opened the box the food looked like somebody had just thown a bunch of food together in one big mess. There was a side of rice and the chicken was a gravy looking thing thrown on top of more rice. To be honest, it was not good. The macaroni salad was to salty. Even the self service soda was not mixed right and was watered down and had a funny taste to it. I threw my drink out and tried another one and it wasn't any better. I've been to Hawaii many times and all I can say is that this was not Hawaiian food. It was more of a teriyaki sauce on what tasted like boiled chicken. The vegetables were soggy and the whole meal was very disappointing. The only positive side is that the dinner was cheap. But you get what you pay for I guess. Restaurant was messy. Every table looked like they hadn't been wiped at all. Service was below average, they brought us our food and there was only one fork to split between my fiancée and myself. The food was done incorrectly. I ordered Mua Loana Chicken, and requested medium spice. They definitely added significantly more spice than a normal "medium", and the meal was way too spicy. Double checked the hours in the window, they are posted as open until 9. People were still inside eating but they had turned off the open sign. Hawaiian Time Authentic Plate Lunch We get takeout from Hawaiian Time they two or three times a month, and we have never been disappointed. There are nine Hawaiian Time locations, two of which are in Salem, and this trip, we dined-in at their Wallace Road location, in West Salem. My go-to favorite is the regular-size Huli Huli (Teriyaki) Chicken ($8.50), and my better half likes the dakin (small) Huli Huli (Teriyaki) Chicken ($6.50). The teriyaki chicken is tender and flavorful, the rice perfectly cooked, and because we love the macaroni salad, we always substitute an additional scoop of macaroni salad for the rice ball (50-cents extra). Fountain drinks ($2) are self service, but to be honest, I would prefer Coke products ... but you can't have everything. There is no charge for water cups. We find the employees on the counter fast and friendly, and the decor is just what you would expect at a Hawaiian themed fast / casual restaurant -- cheerful, relaxed, neat and simple. The store has plenty of parking, there is a drive thru, and two large see-through roll-up doors, that can be opened when the weather cooperates. We love it! Four Stars. read more

11/18/23, did the drive-thru and ordered Kalua Pig Sandwich. When I drove to the window, the very first thing the guy said to me in a demanding tone, "tip"? I said no! "Receipt"? I said no! Then he said, ok one minute on your food. He handed me my food, I said Thank you! He said "yep"! That Sandwich was Awful!! The meat tasted funny, the bun tasted old and burnt, the mac looked like it was the last little bit at the bottom of the bucket. After my 1 bite in, I stopped off at a gas station and threw it out. First, I don't know if they are owned by the same owner but this location is noticeably different. First, their customer service was much friendlier than 23rd. I have ordered a "regular" size before, but generally split it with someone else to have. I wish they had musubis here, because that would definitely be the cherry on top! They have a large selection regards of food, and allow you to substitute sides. Location is clean, but is a little dark.
