We were excited to try this place and made the 30 minute drive to check it out. Unfortunately they were no longer serving any alcohol despite all signs that advertised that they do! The food was pretty good. The kids loved the saimin. Partner loved the poke bar bowl. I got the Aina pack and the salmon katsu was delicious! The spam was missing. The sides I chose were Mac salad and edamame. Mac salad was average but the edamame was not so good. It tasted like it had turned. I really wanted to like this spot but it wan't worth the drive. Beer would have been so good with this meal. Great service though!

Oh my Gawd!!! This was fantastic. I tried a little hit of everything and it was so juicy and tender and full of flavor. So much food too! The staff is great. We came right at opening. My new favorite. We loved the atmosphere. Outside seating too. Full bar. Hubs loved the shoyu chicken. They mark for GF and have a vegan dish.

Solid five stars for a local Hawaiian restaurant near Pacific University! Good food and good location.

Went to Kama'aina's a Hawaiian restaurant here in Forrest Grove. Everything was good and tasty, thought the Mac salad was a bit gritty, but ok. Everyone said the food was good here. We'd eat here again!

ALOHA!! Who would have thought? A Hawaiian restaurant in Forrest Grove! A wonderful surprise! I had the Kalbi plate with kimchi and everything was spot on. The kalbi was sweet and savory all in one (as it should be). The kimchi was bold without being too spicy. The restaurant was clean eith lots of light wood and an outside patio. Our server was upbeat and really took care of us, even though we came in at 2pm. We will certainly be back next time we're in Forrest Grove!

Came for lunch. I had the Cali ahi poke bowl with half rice and half salad. My husband had the dynamite chicken with a salad and mac salad. Everything is seasoned perfectly and so fresh. Makes us dream about going back to Hawaii. Such a lovely gem in our little town.

I was out in Forest Grove for work and stopped by to pick up lunch. I was excited to find this place, I always try to support Hawaiian food spots plus I get to eat local food I ordered takeout, tried the spicy poke bowl & Kalbi, and both were delicious. The kalbi plate was loaded up! Service was friendly and fast too. I'll definitely stop by again next time I'm in the area.

Garlic Furikake Fries - so good!

So so good! I've been wanting to try this place for awhile but we never go to Forest Grove. I actually thought it was too good to be true, that such a place could exist in such a small town, but it's real and it's wonderful. I went with my husband early in the evening on a Saturday. We were one of just five tables seated in the restaurant, with just one host/server who was calm, friendly and kind. The vibe was super chill, island music playing and beautiful photos of Hawaii on the walls. Since my husband is fasting, I had to eat solo. I was starving and could have easily ordered more but I was reasonable and just ordered the garlic furikake fries to start and the kalbi plate lunch as my entree. The fries were perfectly cooked and seasoned. The flavor was just right, not overpowering and the portion was great as a starter. I was able to eat about half before my plate lunch arrived. The kalbi is always my favorite thing to order and this did not disappoint. The meat was perfectly marinated and cooked, so tender and just absolutely delicious, 10/10. The rice, Mac salad and green salad were all great companions. And the presentation was beautiful and the portion plentiful. Highly recommend taking a drive through the quiet, small town of Forest Grove & enjoying a plate lunch with real aloha!

Spice Ahi Poke bowl with greens

I ordered a spicy ahi poke bowl from the food truck for $20 ($17 and 2.50 tip). I looked at my bowl and it was just the tuna on top of lettuce. Zero toppings. I thought that was strange so I went back and the guy acted like he had no idea what toppings are and like I was stupid for asking. Said I could order sides if I wanted but that I must be thinking of a California poke bowl. Hawaiian poke doesn't come with toppings. That might be true, but there's no way that a poke bowl with no toppings should be $17 at a food truck. The flavor was good but the value was not it (and customer service was lacking) . Order something else. They seem to have decent reviews.

A taste of the Hawaiian Islands in the heart of Forest Grove! And I'd say they're pretty spot on with Hawaiian taste and flavor too! My Hawaiian locals may not agree, but I feel its close enough. Here's a breakdown: + Location + Located in the heart of Forest Grove, walking distance from the university. Its pretty much street parking around the area, although I did notice a small parking lot nearby. I believe its shared with the other businesses. ++ Dining & Atmoshphere ++ The place has quite a few clean tables for two/four (movable). Hawaiian decor, as well as a bar near the entrance, and a rear patio. I've only been here once, but I can imagine during pre-covid times, and seeing university students making this place their local hang-out. Luckily it wasn't busy. +++ Tha Grinds +++ Garlic Furikake Fries ($5.18), crispy fries with a sprinkle of furikake seasoning, and of course with bits of garlic! Aloha Pack ($19.67) with Chicken Katsu, Kalua Pig, and Coconut Shrimp. All three items were made well: Chicken Katsu and Shrimp were nice and crunchy! And the Kalua Pig was steamy and salty. Likely shoyu salty I meant. This is an excellent sample plate if you've never been here and cannot decide on what to get. Its definitely filling! Lau Lau Plate ($20.70) oh boy this plate was even more filling. It came with two succulent pieces of tender/ fatty pork; All wrapped up in a tasty banana leaf. They were either simply steamed up or pressurized, and had that salty Kalua Pork flavor versus a smokiness I was sort of expecting. Not a deal breaker though, and still a delicious plate! Loved it! ++++ Staff & Service ++++ We had excellent service (if I recall her name) from Ruth. She would come back to check on us from time to time and even refilled our water glasses. I mean, it was a late Saturday afternoon lunch, so we were the only customers there really. Its an ideal time to stop by, if you'd like to chill with some enjoyable food, a cold Kona Longboard beer ($5.18), and a bit of privacy. Overall, food total plus tip came out to about $60. A bit pricey, but worth it in my opinion. To Hawaiian locals, this place may really be a 3.5 star kind of place for grinds, but it's all we've got for the area. My tip, go to SakèOne (see my ROTD for them hehe) a couple of miles away, do a tasting first, then come here after for lunch or dinner. Kampai!

For this try, I went with the hawaiian side and got the Huli Huli chicken and the lumpia rolls. Presentation is fantastic. Service was great. Flavor, not quite what I was expecting, but the chicken was fine. A slightly smoky flavor with sauce that I can't quite describe. The mac salad was bland and I've now discovered that I'm not really fan of the lumpia. They weren't bad at all, just I wouldn't order them again. I will go back because I need to try the BBQ side of things (can only eat so much at one time you know).

I ordered the "Hot Mess" with a side of beans and rice. The sandwich was fine (can't really mess up a zenners hot dog). I would have liked a house hot link or something rather than just a zenner dog, but it was good. The beans and rice I thought would be like a red beans and rice with some Cajun or southwest spice, but they were just baked beans on white rice. The "Huli Chicken" was ice cold and was returned by my wife. Didn't even really get to try it. Didn't even try to get her anything else, just an obligatory "oh weird" and refund of the money. I could see myself trying it again and giving it another chance. Probably not my wife though. Ha!

My partner and I got the grilled bbq chicken and the bbq short ribs + marinated beef. Unfortunately, the deep fried chicken was sold out for the day (we came in about 45 minutes until closing so perhaps our fault). I think because of the time we came in- we got kitchen scraps. The short ribs were 90% fat and 10% actual meat. The macaroni salad was incredibly plain, it needed more seasoning - pepper something because it straight up looked it was pasta with slabbed mayo. I will however give a shot out to their poke because I don't eat seafood nor like it and I did give this a try for the fun of it and it was delicious. Again I think because we came in 40-45 minutes before closing closing the service was not great either. I saw the self service bottles of sauce and when I came back I asked the lady for one and she said she had run out when it was pretty clear she was just cleaning up. Fair- you want to get out of there on time. So I asked the lady for hot sauce and she said it was extra and charged me $1.00 per 2.5oz container which is just diabolical in my opinion- I still paid none the less so it's my dusky for contribution to the fiasco. Overall it was mid, I'm used to much more flavorful food in Los Angeles. Ill give it another go whenever I'm in the area at a different time. Perhaps it was a one off day for them.

But today, I had the time to swing by and fortunately he was open, but SOLD OUT. Fortunately, he had a few things left over. So I said yes to a mix plate. Nolan's Hawaii accent is still thick it made me feel like I was back home on the west side for a second (!!!!thank you!!!!) I met some people outside the food stand, a business man from Hawaii and some California people I mistaken were from Hawaii as well, lol. It was an awesome interaction, from the moment I got there I got greeted by strangers waiting for food, to going up to the window and asking "so what? No more nuttin left?" Nolan's response was "Nah I only get mochicko chicken and kalua, you likem?" Haha that was a definite yes! Won't miss out on home food esp if word of mouth was already out there. So I waited a few minutes for my food, and the box was heavy. Haha it felt like when you would eat at your aunty and uncles house and they pack you the party left overs. I opened my plate lunch and I was greeted by a huge portion of chicken, pork rice and Mac salad. And let me tell you, the Mac salad didn't have so much frills like what you would see in a Portland Hawaii food joint. It was sauced, and seasoned. PERFECT! No need for all the extra add ons. As I started eating, let me say that kalua pork was no joke so moist and easy to eat not even close to dried out. The chicken tasted nice and crispy with just enough marinate and fluff. I haven't found this anywhere in Oregon..until here. Yeah sure there's a poke and katsu bar in the shopping center next door... but I take the random food cart in the parking lot any day over something franchised
