They were a bit wetter than I prefer, but the flavor was definitely there. I also liked that the kamaboko came in thick slices instead of the usual shredded style. The hamburger steak was the standout dish for me. It was flavorful and easily my favorite item we tried. The trifecta plate was decent, although it was a little saltier than our taste, and the kalbi ribs were good but fairly standard. You order your food at the check-in desk , pay and it's delivered to your table. I sat in the covered patio at the back. Good selection of pupus, plates and combos. Check out the specials too. The service was amazing as soon as we stepped in the door. One of the employees noticed my daughter was outside with our dog; she invited both inside. The food was delivered quickly and exactly how we ordered it. The portions were plentiful - we had the shayu chicken, the kahlua pork, the teriyaki salmon and spam masubi. The Spam masubi was the best we've ever had - so flavorful. All of it was so yummy! Since they had seen that we had a dog, they came outside where we were sitting with a water bowl for our pup - bonus! Topped it off with butter mochi and some lilikoi cheesecake. Sadly both meats were over salty. The Mac salad was decent, same with the rice. But the proteins were a miss, even with their additional sauces available. The butter mochi was pretty solid too. Unfortunately, with sooo many options in the Portland area, we probably won't be back. read more

Visited the 808 Grinds Hawaiian Cafe at 10100 SW Park Way and they're affiliated so I had to try this location. The first thing you'll notice as you drive up is the parking. This location has a smaller parking lot behind the restaurant. It's a cute/quaint looking building with one handicapped parking spot right in front. Staff was just as pleasant and friendly. The restaurant has about 4 tables inside and more covered dining outside. As for the food, it all pretty good, and got the following: Spam musubi (spam was a little on the thin side) and proportionately a little too much rice, IMO. Loco Moco was really good and sunnyside eggs were perfect. For some, it may be a little underdone. Wontons were okay, kind of mid but the butter mochi cake bites were really good. Perfect texture. The Trifecta which has fried chicken (good), pulled pork (good and tender) and shoyu chicken (shredded chicken was tender but a little dry) Overall, still a good visit...just didn't "wow" me the first time when i had their kalbi-pork belly at the other location. read more

I came here a little over an hour before closing which I try to avoid doing, but left the house a little late. They were still able to serve us and prepare delicious food pretty quick. I had furikake fries which changed my life. The hamburger steak was also pretty good and I really liked the onions that came with it. When I asked about it, they looked at me like I was an alien, lol. They only had wasabi mixed with mayo. Had to make my own kine sauce for that hot kick. Must be the Haole style? Got the shoyu chx and kalua pig. Flavor was Ono but I like the chx skin. Can't believe I haven't written a review for 808 yet! My daughter was craving some mac salad last night and I will never say no to plate lunch for dinner. Chicken combo and musubi hit the spot. Very generous portions. Was a little bummed because they seem to have switched up the recipe on the 808 fried chicken because the size of the chicken chunks shrunk, but the flavor did not disappoint. One of the great things about 808 is the sauce variations that are available. 808 shoyu and spicy mayo are my jam. We did takeout so I can't say more than the staff was polite and my food was ready on time. We got the pork belly, garlic furikake fries, spicy ahi poke & furikake ahi poke. They also have a list of sauces you can choose from if you'd like. When I tell you that poke hit the spot. My gosh, I have been craving that for months. They both come with wonton chips. The furikake poke was really good on it. It became like nachos. The portion of fries was very generous. It came with some type of wasabi sauce, but I thought it was fine without it. I'm glad we didn't pour the sauce all over it as we didn't finish them all at once. Flavors were full and on point for our 3 dishes: Kalbi pork belly (thin sliced pork belly grilled and lightly marinated), Grinds combo of kahlua pork and shoyu chicken (pulled meats w/ plenty of sauces to add flavor and moisture), and a salmon poke bowl. Plenty of metas, 2 scoops of rice plus a scoop of mac salad with each plate. Guava chiffon cake was light and not overly sweet.......a good finish to the meal. The only tweak I'd do would be to have the shoyu chicken be more like the pieces variety and not pulled chicken (slightly dry and flavorless).
