Solid Vietnamese spot in the area. Haven't been in this strip mall but there's a lot of things here, but at the same time wasn't full. On a Sunday afternoon it was surprisingly not busy, kind of small inside. Seated right away. Service was quick and attentive. Got the pork vermicelli bowl and it hit the spot. Great portions and flavor. All reasonable for the price. read more

The ambience inside is really pleasant, small but chic, with live plants around that make it feel fresh and welcoming. I ordered pho, but unfortunately the soup wasn't as hot as it should have been. By the time I added the fresh veggies, the broth had cooled down quite a bit. I was hesitant to complain, so I ended up taking most of it home to reheat. That said, the broth itself was tasty and flavorful. This place seems promising, and I'm hoping it was just a one-off experience. I'm thinking of giving it another try. read more

Always good but I just wanted to share something else that I ate. I of course ordered their lemon grass pork plate which was always good, flavorful, and great portions, too! I also ordered Vietnamese coffee to share with my dad. It was a bit too sweet at first but then the after taste had nice strong coffee. I wish we could see it drip from the cup but I guess that's no longer as common these days. I also had the opportunity to try their two kinds of flan. One was regular caramel and the other was coffee. The owner said that they were made in two different ways and both were very good. The coffee flavor was nice and strong and the egg flavor was present. The texture was nice and smooth, too! I really enjoyed it but they won't always have the flan so call in advance because it depends how busy the owner/wife is with the kiddos! read more

The chicken and pork vermicelli bowls were on point -- packed with flavor and generous portions of meat. I usually don't get full from a vermicelli bowl, but this one had me stuffed in the best way. I would also add two fried egg rolls. Service was excellent, and the ambiance transported me straight to a Vietnamese restaurant abroad. Big thanks to my wife and her friend for recommending this hidden gem. We'll definitely be back! read more

We are in town from Clair and found this Pho place. The spring rolls and peanuts sauce were delicious. The Pho was so yummy we tried their shrimp in Beef broth which was incredible but too big to finish. We also tried their Sesame Balls to go because. Their portions are big. The server was super helpful with suggestions. I love that they gave you a fork in case you did not know how to use chopsticks. The restaurant was clean and inviting. Sorry for not posting picture but we got there at 8pm and they close at 9pm. They had so many to go orders on the rainy Thursday night. I would love to return for their spring rolls. read more

So glad my husband pointed this place out when we were in the area! The owner is very sweet and personable and the food quality is equally as positive. My family and I ordered the Pho Đặc Biệt, Bún Bò Huế, kids Pho, and Shrimp salad rolls. My son and I both agreed that the pho was flavorful and they gave us a generous portion of noodles and broth. Thanks for not skimping considering the high prices of pho these days! The meats in the broth were all cooked well. I appreciate the utensils coming out in individual bags so you know they care about cleanliness and being sanitary. As a super picky Viet pho- eater (hard to convince me to eat pho unless I'm sick, otherwise I will critique from sun up til sun down on pho for $20 a bowl lol) I would definitely come back here again! That sure does say a lot! Ask my husband! lol. read more

Stopped here on our way home from a soccer tournament. We were greeted quickly and politely. We had our dog with us, so we sat outside, and the host brought out the items from a table inside so that we would have what we needed while we ate! Daughters ordered the Pho and raved about the flavor. The shrimp Pho (pictured here) had a generous amount of shrimp and an abundance of vegetables - yum! My husband and I got the vermicelli bowls - he got the salmon and I got the chicken - both were flavorful and the meat perfectly cooked. Generous sized and very filling. 5 star lunch for sure! read more

I always get the Vermicelli Noodle Bowl with Grilled Pork at Vietnamese restaurants. I've tried so many, but the one I just had? It was absolutely the best. The lemongrass grilled pork was the star - so tender, smoky, and bursting with that bright, zesty lemongrass flavor. It was perfectly seasoned. Then you have the cool vermicelli noodles, crisp fresh vegetables, and vibrant Thai basil, all tied together with that incredible sauce. It's the perfect mix of savory, sweet, tangy, and a little bit of fresh crunch. Seriously, the flavors just explode in your mouth. If you love those amazing Vietnamese flavors, you have to try this dish! read more

I loooove this place! Everything tastes so good and authentic. I loved how they put a lot of meat in pho. The service is very nice and food is served pretty quick yet maintains quality. I added shrimp screwer to the spring roll vermicelli salad bowl and it was to dir for!!!! So much flavor and fresh veggies! The shrimp was smoked and cooked to perfection. I've been coming here weekly now that the weather's getting cold and craving noodle soup but you gotta try their vermicelli salad! Highly recommend! read more

DELISH and great service. This may be the best fried calamari I've ever had in my life - my 10 yo son agrees. We also had the shrimp pho (such flavorful beef broth that's not too salty) and the lemongrass chicken noodle dish which had lots of veggies and a light, zesty sauce. Will return! read more

Excellent service and delicious food . Very large portions. Took half home. Highly recommend.

We tried this small, family-owned business for some phone and tried our things too. The staff was extremely attentive to our needs and was very friendly. I personally thought the pho was a little bland but I added some pepper/salt and hoisin sauce. I saw a sign on their door that they don't use MSG so that might be why. The portions are huge for a bowl of pho! It was my first time trying a vermicelli bowl and it was so delicious. I loved the chicken, most especially. All the flavors come together when combined and would come back again for the vermicelli bowls. read more

Good Vietnamese food. This small restaurant has a clean and relaxing setup with a relatively small menu (2 pages?) It's perfect for those who often struggle with menus of 100+ items (us)! We ordered the teriyaki and shrimp, beef pho, and shrimp rolls, all were delicious and fresh. We especially loved the Thai iced tea; the sweetness level was right and not excessively sweet( hard to find!) ! The staff were very friendly. We will definitely come back again. read more

I think I just need to accept the new reality that pho is $15 now. I don't have to like it but I understand. I got the Bo bun happy bamboo. How can you really go wrong with the places name in it. I was warned about the spicy level and accepted my fate I think they actually held back for me. I appreciated that there wasn't any weird meats in it. I'm not a huge fan of connective tissue. So thank you. The broth was complex and delicious. I could have sipped on it for longer. Great service and atmosphere. I'll come back for some pho. read more

This new spot in the Safeway shopping center is clean and updated. There are 2 outdoor tables. We came for lunch on the weekend and were the only ones dining in, although there was a steady stream of take-out orders. The Pho Special is a little larger than the Pho beef bowl and comes with all 4 proteins. The tripe was good--not tough or chewy, and the brisket was tender. The broth had a slightly sweeter flavor than most pho beef broths. Each person gets their own plate of veggies and condiments. The owner let us know that they don't re-serve the sauce even if we didn't use it, so we took it home. Service is friendly and fast. We'll be back! read more

Happy Bamboo - Everyone gets their own plate of veggies and sauce with pho - Asian Fusion Near Me - Portland, Oregon

Happy Bamboo is trying to carve a niche for itself being in the Bethany bubble suburbia... and I think they are pulling it off. Right out the gate, let's get one thing out of the way... they advertise No added MSG... that means different things to different restaurants. For Happy Bamboo it means a very "homestyle" rendition of what you've probably had all over Beaverton and Portland. Some may not like the lightness, I for one enjoy the comfort it brings... because it's like how my family from long ago make it... with fresh cuts, fresh herbs and lots of care rather than shortcuts. I especially appreciate their brisket cuts and source. On this particular day I could taste the moist meaty softness. No added MSG doesn't mean certain ingredients like fish sauce doesn't have MSG, it means they aren't going to throw in a bag of MSG into the broth that they make. On a cold rainy day, especially getting over a cold, oh man this hits the spot and warms the soul. I like their bamboo themed layout and subtle notes of cleanliness... all the silverware are bagged, the sauces in individual containers rather and high volume, high paced style service. If you want depth, kick and MSG infused flavors, There's plenty of great choices in the area. If you want something more on the lighter side at times, Happy Bamboo delivers. read more

There's nothing more perfect than having a pho restaurant near my new apartment where they serve vegan pho with organic tofu and don't use msg. Like seriously, could I ask for anything more than that? The pho broth was flavorful and not plain like in other places and because it didn't have msg it didn't give me a headache or thirst. The veggies were tasty and tofu was perfectly crispy! I also talked to a woman who took my order and she was very helpful and nice. So far it's my most favorite place in this area. As our first time trying this place, we ordered take-out and got the pho. I haven't had good pho in a long time and this place is definitely my top choice from now on! The broth is delicious by itself as well as with the noodles. The picture is of my leftovers- huge portions! Customer service was amazing. The person that packed my order seemed very caring. We had asked for cabbage and carrots to go with the pho (not typical) and she explained that they only had shredded cabbage on hand but was able to get the chefs to steam some chopped cabbage and carrots for us. She went out of her way to fulfill our order and for that reason I'm giving them a 5-star review (and because the food was delicious)! Walking into the restaurant gave me a calming feeling from the plants all around to the soft music playing. I will have to go eat in one of these days. read more

Cute little place close to my house. They graciously let us order (to go) just before close. Food was tasty. Portions were good.

Very good! So excited to welcome this new spot to the otherwise-lackluster group of restaurants at the Safeway (fka Albertsons) shopping center. The only place that brings us up over there these days is McBee's, though with the change in weather we're rarely stopping in. Everything else up there is a hard pass, imo, and not worth my hard-earned dollars. But, back to the main stage: two of us popped into Happy Bamboo on a weeknite for a warm, quick meal of beef pho (with meatballs, tenderloin, and brisket) and pork vermicelli. Both were really good! They offered the usual fixins -- hoisin, sriracha, lime, bean sprouts, thai basil -- to spice/season my pho up to the desired intensity. Portions were hearty enough that I thought about taking some of it home, but ultimately ate it all up there. Not too crowded and waitstaff (I'm assuming the owners) were friendly and attentive. I am also so happy that this place is now on the list of Yelp's 100 Top Portland-area restaurants for the year. Hope it thrives! read more

Don't get the Pho. The broth is almost clear. It tastes like they boiled anise Starrs and cinnamon and then threw in beef flavoring at the last minute. I had to leave my boyfriend in the restaurant alone because the smell was so foul. read more

I had not been in here since the name and ownership changed. I have to say first impressions were how warm, fun and inviting the place has become. There is definitely a push to show they are a step above the normal Asian fair. The decor is great and detailed, the greeting I received was super warm and friendly. I got an order to go today and I really felt that the food was very good in quality, hot, fresh and tasted great. I watched bowls of Pho go to some tables and I really need to come back to eat here for Pho alone. The customer service was fantastic, I just have to say this again as I watched the lady here take care of her customers. This alone makes me want to return, I just really appreciate when people are so appreciative of your business. The food could be mediocre and If the service is great I am going. However the food was great even in a togo order. Sorry it took so long to visit, it won't be long for a return for sure. read more

Full disclosure this is a new restaurant by a former coworker. I got here kind of late, 7pm on a Saturday. They were out of pho which I had heard was really good. Instead I had the teriyaki chicken and a strawberry smoothie. The chicken came with rice and cabbage with dressing. It was all very good with large portions. They are new so I was the only customer at that time. The service was good with soft piano playing. I will have to come again to try the pho. The exterior is nice and very clean, I will come again and recommend it! read more
