I was…read morereferred to the clinic and I emphatically recommend Jenkins Eye Clinic and Dr. Nikpoor. The vision in my right eye began diminishing nearly two years ago. At first it felt like I was seeing the world through plastic wrap smeared with bacon grease; over time it worsened into what seemed like wrinkled paper. I was scared I might lose sight in that eye. I had to depend solely on my left eye and felt unsafe driving at night because headlights became blinding spotlights. At Jenkins Eye Clinic I learned I had cataracts in both eyes. The staff were pleasant, knowledgeable, accommodating, and compassionate. I was a little devastated at first -- I thought I was too young -- but Dr. Nikpoor put me at ease. She explained what to expect before and after the procedure, answered all my questions about vision outcomes, pain, downtime, and cost, and helped me schedule bilateral cataract surgery for early April. My procedure was scheduled for 8:00 a.m., and I was out by 9:30 a.m. Tears of joy escaped my eyes when I realized I could see through my right eye again. The vision felt different -- somehow better. Colors, especially blue, are deeper and more vivid; whites are more brilliant. I can now safely drive at night without fear. I am grateful to Dr. Nikpoor, the staff at Jenkins Eye Clinic, and the team at The Surgical Suites.

We learn, play sports, watch movies, read, enjoy sunsets and fireworks, etc. through our eyes. What would we do without them? I first visited Jenkins Eye Care in 2000 and had LASIK surgery. The best result was getting rid of contact lenses! That one inconvenience was gone from my daily routine! What a relief! Recently, my optometrist noticed that I had the beginnings of cataracts. So many people advised me to get the surgery as soon as possible, so... Okay... I went for the exam/consultation and now am waiting to schedule the surgery. It's such a popular procedure that the office is backed up for months! I'm looking forward to interacting with the professional, patient, and pleasant staff again! I think I met six different people who helped me navigate the system! They were all kind and thorough! I highly recommend Jenkins Eye Care. They're very experienced and have an excellent reputation!

Once I submitted their online form, I got a call back and Robert left me a detail message including pricing. He said to go in for Aiea location for the consultation. The day I went in, the office looked really cluttered and unorganized. I saw muliple personal items of the staffs just left around in the office... When I was doing the eye exam, I could not see well on one eye, was wondering why....then after a while I figured their machine lense was dirty, and I had to tell the Dr. it was the lense. I have never had that happen to me at an eye doctor before. The price I got over the phone was 4100 dollars for military dependent. My friend who was also a military dependent at the time paid 3800 for both eyes. I negotiated with the Dr. and he said he could do it for 3900. A month later, I got a bill for thier FREE consultation priced over $240. I was stunned because on the website it said free and even the day of the consultation, I made sure with the receptionist as well. (Matter fact I have never seen any eye doctor who does not do free consultation for lasik). I called the office to have the matter corrected numerous times and the lady who is in charge of billing never picks up her phone so I left voice messages every time, yet NEVER calls me back. I went on their website again and they clearly say free consultation. On top of that, now I found the price list for lasik and they quoated me higher price than what it is listed on their websited even after the negotiation. This business is a scam. I would never ever get anything done here if I were you. I totally believe the one star review someone else left about this Dr. office.

Like most patients I was very anxious about the surgery. He very carefully went over the risks (minimal) and discussed the best surgery for me (I opted for the Odyssey-no glasses needed in the future). His advice and reassurance led me to the best choice. He is incredibly skillful. Our eyes are the most precious things we have-Dr. Portis is the best doctor to entrust them to. He was recommended to me as the best eye surgeon in Hawaii-something that I can now confirm.

It is an ophthalmology group with Queen's Hospital in Honolulu. In particular, Jon Portis Ophthalmologist is a popular, trusted and well-respected doctor. Fortunately, my piano student's mother is a doctor who referred me to Dr.Portis, so my husband Jeff is also likely to undergo cataract surgery with him. Today was our first visit, he did a lot of tests, and everything went smoothly with the guidance of the staff. Also, the doctor carefully listened to my husband's story and set up a treatment plan. I think it is very important for patients facing surgery to understand their condition, treatment options, risks and benefits. Dr. Portis did a good job of explaining these things. . Well, this doctor, apparently he is a professional photographer and many of his works are displayed in the waiting room. When I look at these wonderful works, I forget that it's a hospital! It was my first visit with a little nervousness, but I was able to spend time at a good pace and comfortably, so I felt like leaving the anxiety of the surgery to him with peace of mind. When my husband became his patient, I also decided to have him check my eyes every year as my ophthalmologist, and I made an appointment. I'm looking forward to receiving treatment while having a fun conversation with the doctor from now on!

I HAD been a patient for 2 years. I intended to be originally a patient of Dr. Choi but after 2 visits, the front desk decided to give me to Dr. Malia Kunioka without any explanation. This seems to be a common thing in this office; not getting to see the doctor that you had an appointment with. My main issue is that during one of my visits in 2023, Dr. Kunioka decided to code my exam as medical when all I wanted was Contact lenses! This started me down the path of calling the doctor's billing agency (who will never answer phone btw) to see why I am being charged $468. Their billing agency explained that the Front Desk billed it to a insurance that I no longer have (even though I gave them my new insurance card during the visit). They reprocessed the claim to HMSA and after more phone calls, I discovered that Dr. Kunioka coded my visit as medical so my vision insurance was not even used. A year has already gone by at this point. I asked the billing agency to reprocess the claim but due to how old the claim was, nothing came of it. So congratulations, Worsterlee's office! You have worn me down, I give up. I am writing you a check for $468 and hoping to never have to step food in your office again.

I've been going to the Cataract & Vision Center since I was a kid. In fact, Dr. Worldster Lee (now…read moreretired) saved my eyes after my regular doctor failed to catch what was actually going on with my vision. The pros? The staff and doctors. The staff are super friendly and great, especially the front staff and those who do the first checks. I've actually never had a bad interaction ever. Dr. Brandon Lee is also friendly, funny, and of course, knowledgeable. He's also consistently rated one of the top doctors in Hawaii. With my eyes now stabilized, I don't go here as regularly as I used to, but I still return every couple of years because of his expertise and to be sure that everything's good. They also accept VSP and other insurance. The cons? There's really only one, which is the wait. If you have an appointment, expect to be here for at least an hour. Maybe even two. Parking is a $1 every half hour (not their fault or choice) with validation. Is it worth it? If you're going to see one of the top doctors on island, assume there's going to be a wait. This clinic is busy for a reason. Right now, I'm considering Lasik, and I can also confirm that they are one of the most affordable if not the most affordable on island. Check them out.

Drop off tip: faster to be dropped off in the Costco parking lot (make the turn into the in/out driveway at the traffic light intersection on Ala Kawa St. between Home Depot and Costco! Now, once you are dropped off... go take the stairway almost immediately to your left... unfortunately, the escalator has not been working in years--- don't think they want to fix it! If you cannot walk up the stairway, you will have to take the elevator which makes you walk around the large interior of the building counterclockwise until you end up on the exterior walkway on the second floor. Walk out to your left and you will see the signage. This surgery center is divided into two areas...1st, being the billing area where you pay the remaining balance after what insurance covers. Very nice and welcoming staff there... But then they said I now have to go to the next office which is the patient waiting room/entry to their surgery center. Just go back out and turn left and walk to the end and into the second part of the surgery center. Fill out a short piece of paperwork then you are brought to a small room for some additional medical test. After that, you are brought into the pre-surgery section (you will be asked to come about 2-3 hours before the actual eye surgery procedure). Oh, my god... the ENTIRE STAFF were so warm, caring, and made me feel at ease on both times I were there! I really mean it! The pre-surgery and post-surgery nurses I had the first time... i wished they were there the second time this past February, but they were almost a different staff of nurses. I was treated like a king and they were my servants... haha... they were SO VERY NICE ... LIKE THE KIND YOU JUST WANT TO INVITE THEM TO YOUR 'whatever' celebration(s)!!! They were that friendly and compassionate! At the end of my second surgery, I told my post-surgery nurse (who so happened to be my post-surgery nurse back in November) that I will miss all of them... and told him that 'too bad, i don't have a third eye'! We both laughed so hard at that---as he knew what i meant and I will so miss the staff that helped me on those two days in November 2024 and February 2025. Kudos to the entire staff! I felt so welcomed and at ease!!! I still am sad that i don't have a third eye to be worked on...
