My daughter and I had the best experience at 808 Eye Care. We had been to 6 places with no luck finding a pair my teen liked previously, but found a pair she liked at 808 Eye Care. The staff is so friendly and helpful. Will the eyeglasses specialist gave my daughter and I excellent and personalized service to find the perfect prescription eyeglasses. They have a great selection of frames in their lobby and Will was very patient with our indecisiveness and took great care with the measurements. He made the whole experience easy and fun and in the future we will go straight to 808! read more

We started coming here because the kid's original eye doctor joined Straub and it became inconvenient to schedule an appointment (not to mention the drive and parking situation). I had inquired with my own doctor but he doesn't prescribe contacts, and he might have been the one to suggest Dr. Inouye. Scheduling an appointment was super easy! The website calendar/intake form was intuitive and we didn't have to wait long, maybe a week or so. The location is a little unexpected because it's in a mostly residential neighborhood, and above a bar, but which is closed during the day, so the parking situation works out, generally. As far as I can tell there is no accessible entrance, only stairs. Staff are courteous and kind. Dr. Inouye isn't the chatty type, but neither is the kid. They don't do the pupil dilation thing, which is very convenient because the kid had to go back to school after the appt. Everything was computerized. The nurse patiently demonstrated how to put on and remove contacts and let him practice until he was comfortable. I think his first appt was abt an hour long, and the subsequent ones were 45 minutes or so. Generally everyone is patient. They have also been generous with the samples, which we appreciate, because the kid tends to tell me a few days before he runs out and we have to scramble and ration the contacts until the new order arrives... Communication is convenient too. I tend to text more than calling. They'd send the link to pay the invoice via text before they'd order the contacts. 15 minute grace period per appt. They're gracious abt the time I was stuck in traffic (must have been the moon!) and every person driving a vehicle seems to be in a gridlock. They are were understanding and helped reschedule, which I really appreciate. Generally satisfied overall! read more

Amazing! 808 Eye care . Dr Kensey Very professional Very nice friendly staff and helpful Examination top notch ( Very Thorough) State of art Equipment Large selection of Glasses Easy to find location with parking read more

808 Eye Care may not be located in the easiest place to find, but once there you will be greeted by a small and very welcoming staff! Kelsey Inouye O.D. attended to my husband promptly, no waiting around here! He examined him, and told him much to his consternation that actually the glasses he was complaining about were the correct prescription. Little did I imagine that you could visit any professional and not be recommended some sort of additional service! Kensey spoke to us with good humor and yet very professional attention, leaving us with no doubt that his assessment was correct. I would highly recommend this business for its expertise and its welcoming atmosphere. read more

Finally Clear Vision! Dr. Kensey & Team Fixed What Others Got Wrong I cannot recommend Dr. Kensey and his team highly enough! After struggling with fuzzy, blurry vision from an incorrect prescription given by my previous optometrist, getting in to see Dr. Kensey was a game-changer - and a huge shoutout to Paula on his staff for making it happen so fast! In an area where you often have to book appointments 2-3 months out, Paula somehow managed to get me a same-week appointment when I was desperate for help. Dr. Kensey immediately impressed me with his deep knowledge and the use of very high-tech diagnostic tools in his office. While he is definitely a man of few words, his quiet confidence and efficiency were actually reassuring. He doesn't waste time on unnecessary chatter, but focuses intently on getting the diagnosis right. And get it right he did! He quickly identified that my old prescription (which used different strengths for each eye - something I found ridiculous and ineffective) was the root of my problems. Instead, he prescribed new multifocal lenses, and the difference is absolutely life-changing. My vision is now crystal clear - no more fuzziness or blur! He fixed me right up where others failed. Between Paula's incredible efficiency getting me seen and Dr. Kensey's brilliant expertise and technology, this practice speaks volumes. If you're looking for a top-notch, no-nonsense optometrist who leverages cutting-edge technology to deliver precise results, backed by a staff that actually cares about getting you help now, Dr. Kensey is your doctor read more

Front desk staff member was super friendly and helpful. She made the experience an average one to a great one. Dr Kensey got through everything quickly - all I would say is that he was a bit rushed and I felt like he was speedrunning the appointment. But I got my Rx either way so no worries. They have good equipment that allowed me to get around the usual eye dilation. And it was still very affordable read more

The absolute sweetest people work here!!! I tried calling other eye doctors who didn't have any availability for months, I called 808 Eye Care and they had same day appointments available. I've been here twice now and I was seen exactly at my appointment time! I am new to understanding insurance and always have a million questions and the Aunties here are so patient and understanding. I asked about recommendations for contacts and they told me about som incredible deals that were a fraction of what I was paying at 1-800 contacts. This place is the absolute best, I have nothing but the kindest words for this business!!! read more

My son just had his eye appointment there and he liked it. Small office with plenty of options for glasses. My son liked all the machines that were there and felt like the doctor was really getting a full scope of his eyes. My son wears contacts preferably which the doctor took into consideration and made sure that he gets him his contacts before glasses. We have a follow up appointment next week. I seen reviews that the office gets very busy, but they seem to have plenty appointments available. Wish they were open on Mondays since it's my day off but that's a minor detail. After our follow up next week, I will come back on and finish my complete review read more

AND smiley emojis! I followed Dr. Janel Sato from a prior office b/c she's just a terrific Optometrist! I used to go to good ole' Costco, but that OD, whoever i saw years ago subscribe some contacts that made my eyes MORE dry & irritated, even though he said it should be to the contrary. So, i decided to get another opinion & that's where Dr. Sato comes in. The contacts she prescribed, the Oasis, whoa! HUGE difference. After this change, i never went back to Costco Eye center. Also, w/ Dr. Sato, she's very thorough w/ the eye exam & answers ALL my ?'s to the best of her knowledge, which i greatly appreciate. And she NEVER rushes you out the door, or pushes a product, like Costco. Although, i pace myself too, b/c there are othr ppl she needs to see. So, if you're lookn for a thoughtful, patient & intelligent OD, try setting an appt w/ her. Don't be discouraged w/ the very homely, optical shop. It could be a bit more organized & spaced out, but that's somethg that can be overlooked b/c Dr. Sato is the main reason for my eye appt, not redecorating the office, hA! read more

This place has nice people working for it. Every every time I have been there they have been kind. But, this office only allows for a 1 year prescription when getting eye exams. That is the minimum requirement for hawaii. Where most places are 2 years. When speaking with the office they explained it is like this because your prescription may change within that 1-2 year period. Although to me it appears to be a tactic to make more money via more examinations. In a situation where your glasses break you may be required to pay for a new examination if you're within that 1-2 year period. I'll be moving to a location that allows me to get all the same services + an extra year of a prescription. read more

Dr. Kensey Inouye is an excellent optometrist, very professional and puts you at ease. Bill for co-pay was sent almost a year after appointment. When they called to confirm my appointment, i emphasized that i only wanted to have an appointment with Dr. Jan Hirakawa but when i went for my appointment , another doctor attended to me instead of Dr. H. Two bills was sent to me for this appointment for one service but with different amounts, first bill i received was lower by more than$20.00. Also, there was a big difference of my co-pay compared to other years!!!! I used to pay less than $20, but bill was $60+ then a week later, the amount was $80+ !!! When i go for my appointment, i usually arrive 15 minutes before the appointment time, they made me wait for almost an hour, such a waste of time, since i have to file for sick leave for the appointments.... i would never go back to them and i won't recommend it to all my friends and ifficemates! read more

Dr. Jan Hirakawa is a lifesaver. She was able to take me at a last minute's notice before I left for the airport the same day. Dr. Hirakawa is bubbly and effective at explains proper eye care. The frame selection features popular designers including Marc Jacobs. There's a wide selection of options to accommodate different style preferences. Trust that you'll find something which suits you. It wasn't until my junior year in high school that the chalkboards in the classrooms became blurry. This is the point where I figured that I should go to the eye doctor for this problem because from what I had heard was that eye doctors are experts and fixing blurry chalkboards. I don't know how they manage to do it, but it worked! Ever since that first visit to Dr. Jan (Hirakawa) I've been a loyal patient to Progressive Optometry. It also helped that my family has been coming here for years (way back when Dr. Jan's father was running the show. Dr.'s Hirakawa and Inouye are absolutely brilliant. They definitely know their stuff, and are able to explain things to patients in very simple and easy to follow language. The office staff is also wonderful, and always a pleasure to interact with. They've always got a wide variety of frames to choose from in all kinds of shapes, sizes, styles, colors and brands. There was even a time when my brother wanted a certain type of frame that none of their suppliers carried, so Dr. Jan actually tracked down the type of frame, which was used for some sun glasses, and used them for my brothers glasses. To me, that's above and beyond what so many other places would do. If you're in need of an optometrist, or looking to change, give Progressive Optometry a call, and see if they can take you in! ***31 Yelps: 4/31*** read more

Nuts, I'm not the first reviewer! lol. My husband and I have been seeing him for 3 years now and he hasn't done us any wrong. His office is super nice, efficient and accomodating. The one reason why we like his office? SATURDAY APPOINTMENTS! And he's a VSP participant. He is professional and personable. Personally, I don't really see him that often because I'm not a glasses wearer so I only come in once a year for my annual eye exam. However, my husband who wears glasses and contacts, sees him often, orders specialty glasses from him as well. Actually they did change out the lenses of my Gucci sunglasses from the regular ones it came with, to some choice polorized lenses and it only took a week to do it. Nice! Pros: -Professional staff & accomodating -Dr. is personable, knowledgable and thorough -Lots of personal service especially when ordering specialty glasses and lenses -Saturday Appointments -VSP participant/provider Cons: -His location/building is the newest or fanciest looking but it's centrally located and easy parking. read more

I just had my annual vision exam with Dr. Sato, which is she's been providing service for me for the last couple of years. It is a good operation, which they are always checking my vision with the latest equipment. I wish I were a better client but Dr. Sato has been very patient with me, as while my mind tries to control my reflexes, it still blinks at the instance of the flash. After several tries, she managed to capture what she needed. Dr. Sato continues with Dr. Inouye and staff to continue the practice with the same professionalism, dedication and thoroughness that had been when it under the previous business of Vision Source. The selection of frames is still great choices and I know that the Doctors will continue giving the best patient service as the previous establishment. The name and owner might be different, but I know that I was left in well cared for hands with the Doctors at 808 Eye Care, as I had been in the previous owner for over 65 years. I'm confident that they trusted the owner to treat the patients as well as they did. read more

My previous optometrist (also was my husband's previous Dr) at Ala Moana is great too but he does not do any test if I complain something about my eye. This is why my husband which to Dr. Hirakawa years ago. I stayed with our old optometrist because its closer to home. Beginning of this year, I've been suffering little pain...more likely pressure on my eye. I told my optometrist at ala moana about it. He didnt do any test. He said that my eye is just tired and give it a rest which I did but still Im getting the same problem. So my husband told me to give Dr. Hirakawa a try which I did. When I met with Dr. Hirakawa, I told her my issue. Before she told me anything, she did a lot of test on me which I've never seen nor experience in my life. After her test, she told me what to do. I followed her advice and it works! I never had that pressure in my eye! Thanks Dr. Hirakawa! Dr. Hirakawa is sooooo friendly and honest person! She have great staff too! Megan, one of her assistant is bubbly! she helped me pick a nice eyeglass that fits me! =) I've a lot of complements with the eyeglasses that she recommend to me. Thanks Megan! read more

It was a very fun, relaxing experience. I have not had my eyes checked for over 40 years but need glasses for long distance due to my age. Every step was explained to me and Dr Jan Hirakawa was very sensitive to my needs but professional at the same time. I left feeling like I had acquired a friend who is concerned about my well-being. I most heartily recommend the Vision Source Honolulu for anyone needing optical help. I look forward to working with them for may years to come. The only reason I did not give them 5 stars is because I have mobility issues and did not know that the stairs leading to their office is very taxing for someone with arthritis. We did not inform them of such so it was not their fault. When leaving, my husband discovered they have a chair lift at their back stairs but the staff needs to be told to give you access to the lift. read more

I've been going to this optomotrist office for 3 years now. Every time I'm happy I chose to go here and not to a chain. I have a "this is my eye doctor" feeling about this office. I usually see Kensey Inoyue who is laid back and friendly, certainly knowledgable and caring, giving advice which he wouldn't profit from that would help me. I saw another doctor this visit and enjoyed the visit to the office just as well. The staff here are professional and friendly, they have a large selection of frames and they were open last year to putting my prescription lenses into vintage wirerims I brought in. They listen to you, answer your questions, make you feel comfortable and don't push products. Next year's appointment is in my calendar. read more

I've been here several times to see Dr. Inouye and get new glasses and I've always been very satisfied, but I can't go here anymore ... too hard to get an appointment. My very first visit here and my experience was excellent! Dr. Inouye was super efficient, knowledgeable, and friendly. He got right down to business with my eye exam, so I thought he wasn't a "people person"... I'm glad I was wrong. When he was done, he explained my condition and gave me options, asked more explorative questions, and gave me recommendations. I have a very typical asian face - flat, round, high cheekbones, and a flat nose... i was worried i wouldn't be able to find a pair of glasses i would be happy with... wrong again! I ended up getting a nice pair of Gucci glasses ordered. (Gucci just so happens to be my fav designer brand, BTW) I'm also lucky that I've got a great vision plan, so my oop wasn't so much. Now I've just got gotta wait excitedly for the next week and a half to two weeks for my new glasses! They also do a contact fitting for $89 cash price, and a bunch of options for lenses... I'm thinking that I might have to do that soon! read more

I've been going to Dr. Inouye for 25+ years (my son for 7+ years) and that says a lot! If I didn't like the service my son and I are receiving we wouldn't still be his patients. "Dr. Jan" -- the owner -- truly cares about her patients. It was obvious that every time she is in, she does her best to make sure a customer is completely satisfied. As for the remainder of the staff, let's just hope they improve with time. Customer service is not their area of expertise, even though it should be. My recommendations to the staff: call when you have updates, rather than forcing the customer to come in and find out himself/herself that the glasses were not ready when promised -- repeatedly. And I found one employee, who shall remain nameless, completely offensive when she huffed, and grabbed the mail that *she had placed on the reception desk* and turned it over, as if to imply that we were the reason the to/from information was plainly visible to guests. I will go back -- but only because I have confidence in the owner, and she was sensitive to the concerns I brought up re: customer service. read more

Not only would I never return to this office because of poor customer service, I have received bill after bill after I know my account was paid. Closed. Yet I continue to receive bills in the mail in spite of my best efforts to speak to someone in this office who is equipped to assist me. My eye exam was three years ago!! Stop sending me bills. And get an answering service so your customers aren't at the mercy of YOUR business hour convenience. Hence this Yelp review. If you're going to employ a receptionist who handles your business affairs, patient's information and money, you should make sure they can effectively communicate. ( English speaking) My eye exam felt like I was moved through a fast food buffet line. The male eye doctor was cold. I love leaving good feedback and reviews because I know I read and rely on honest reviews, but I just can't. This office has made no effort to improve customer service or resolve my accounting issues. It's the worst thing when you know you're square with your accounts and the get yet another $160 bill in the mail still three year later! Enough already! read more

If you need a skilled optometrist, you should go to Dr. Kensey Inouye at Vision Source. The office is conveniently located (close to Zippy's on King Street), and it's easy to get an appt that fits in with your work schedule. When I first started wearing contact lenses, I had trouble with dry eyes, so Dr. Inouye experimented with a couple of different samples until I found the perfect lenses for my eyes. A few decades later when I decided to switch back to glasses (because of laziness, not trouble with my contacts), the opticians in the office were able to help me find glasses that I loved and that were within my budget. I was especially impressed that the opticians never once pushed the expensive designer frames they also sell there. Instead, they asked my price range and showed me frames within that range. In all aspects of patient care, the goal at Vision Source Is patient satisfaction, so if you need an optometrist, go to Vision Source. You won't regret it. read more
