A screw fell off my 3 year old Maui Jim sunglasses and the lens popped out. The last time I sent a pair back to the Maui Jim repair service, only to find out that they wouldn't service the old model. Maui Jim gave me a 50% off coupon towards a new pair, but that was frustrating since the glasses only needed a screw. I found Honolulu Sunglass Shop's services on Yelp and Google search, so I brought the sunglasses in. Fast and friendly, and NO CHARGE! I will consider bringing other glasses when they need service. The shop had a pretty good selection of sunglasses and I'll definitely shop here in the future. read more

I've purchased a few glasses throughout the years from here & have never been disappointed! The prices are reasonable & seems like they're running specials every time I go in. The selection is great but the customer service is one of the best & most memorable things about Honolulu Sunglasses Shop! Throughout the years my family & I have always experienced amazing, attentive & personable service! Tonight I walked in just to look around but I found something I liked & bought it & from the moment I walked in the friendly staff greeted me especially Miles who was amazing no pressure just respected & valued! I will definitely continue to buy my glasses from here & will recommend others to do the same! read more

Everything is so much beautiful as you see things clearly... Freaky Tiki Tropical Optical is a cute place in Ala Moana street level right besides the Centerstage has a variety of brands wall to wall of shades of all types and I was looking for something specific since having my Lasik procedure to fix a bunch of my eye issues and am blessed to see thing so much more clearer, I just wanted something to help clear up the halos I do see when I'm driving. So here I did find a nice bright yellow lens needed for clearing up night glare while I'm driving and the staff was just a delight so friendly and no pressure to help me find what I needed and the selection here is great much more than other places that I've visited and it looked great too woohoo! Getting this pair I'm told that it has two year's warranty and if I needed any fixing or adjustments to this eye ware all I need to do is swing by and they'll take care of me with questions now what an awesome service is that!? My Ray Bans are awesome and seeing things clearer so that I don't strain my eyes and just enjoy the rainbow. Thank you! read more

When I first went in to check out the Oakley meta. Don't remember her name but she was a younger chubby girl. She explained to me how to use the glasses and helped me understand about it. I waited a few days before going back the Filipino older lady remembers me but she was not the one who helped me. read more

I was in need of some new sunglasses, and being on vacay gave me the perfect excuse to buy a new pair. I also saw that some brands were offering 50% off, so I dropped by Freaky Tiki in Ala Moana mall. Its on the first level as you exit the escalator to the right, next to Big Island Cookies. Besides having an ugly face, my head has two other problems: Its wide & long. I tried on some Oakleys, but ending up liking the Costas the best. They had big lenses, and the length of the arms were long enuf to fit behind my ears. With the discount, the price was $140, which was within my budget. Regarding the ambiance, its a local store, so its a lot more comfy vs a big chain shop. When I come home, I always try to support local businesses. However, where FT really stood out was the service. The salesman, Jesse, and the owner, Ryken, showed a lot of Aloha. They patiently waited as I tried on several pairs, and Ryken said to give me a new pair vs the floor model: Big shaka to dat! Side note: To show you how small the island is, and how you are only one person removed from knowing someone else, let me share a story. I told my cuz (initials NP) that I scored some sunglasses fr FT. He told me he knows Ryken bc the latter dated his stepdaughter Jen. My cuz even showed me their prom pic. The moral to the story is, shop local businesses vs chains when you are in the islands. You might just run into someone you know (once removed!). Hahahahaha read more

We were shopping for sunglasses but this lady was giving us attitude, giving us dirty looks while she's angrily flapping her folding fan. It would've been one star but gave 2 because the other 2 were helpful and nice. If it wasn't for them, I'd give them one star (zero if we're able to). Word of advice to the lady, if you're not a people person, please don't work in retail. You lost 3 potential sale because of her. read more

Honolulu Sunglass Shop - Unfriendly staff - Sunglasses Near Me - Honolulu, Hawaii

This is THE place to buy sunglasses, especially if you're looking for Maui Jim's: they have the LARGEST selection on the island!!! Ryken gives the absolute best customer service I've ever had, & he is incredibly knowledgeable! Not only did he know some of the inner dealings of Maui Jim's, & of course was aware of all his inventory, he made good suggestions for what would look best on me. If you're not sure what to get, just ask Ryken. read more

saw their feature on the news for their fukubukuro event & wanted to check their deals. unfortunately, i ended up not being able to go that day. went a couple weeks later & they were having a b1g1 50% off sale. i bought 2 sunglasses. for 1 of the pairs, they only had the display left. there were 2 female employees working. 1 cleaned & examined the sunglasses, showing me that it is in good condition. the other helped me with checking out. they told me about their warranty & it's a good one. glad i purchased from them. read more

The service here is unparalleled. Great products, cool staff and locally owned, the Trifecta. Bought a pair of Maui Jim's and Prada's last year right out of the Pandemic. Stopped in to check out the Versaces and they were having a 30-60% off sale. They didn't have the gold frames I was looking for but Jocelyn (you're awesome thank yooou!) Made it happen. She took down my info, hunted down the pair online and got permission from her boss to do a custom order. I spoke with Ryken when they arrived and since I wasn't sure which lense I was looking for he did me a solid and swapped out a pair of mirror lenses into the Gold Frames so I could compare. Thanks a ton Ryken! Ended up going gold frame w/ mirror lense. Loving these shades. Will definitely be back read more

Honolulu Sunglass Shop (Formerly Freaky Tiki) is my go to store for all of my sunglass and my family's sunglasses needs. Ryken has treated me and my family like Ohana From the first time we met. Lauryn is an absolute gem too as she has helped me and members of my family at different times purchase sunglasses for ourselves and friends. We truly appreciate their product knowledge, sense of style, and honesty. They will not hesitate telling me if the sunglasses are too small, don't fit right, or simply don't suit me. They will often select sunglasses I would have not considered. We spend most of our time on the mainland but hold off buying sunglasses until we come to Hawaii. Ryken and his team go the extra mile to ensure our customer satisfaction and they have never disappointed. They not only go the extra mile but go way overboard from what you would call excellent customer service. For example, I ordered a pair of sunglasses that were being shipped from Maui just before the tragic Lahaina fire. When the glasses were delayed due to the fire, Ryken insisted he would send them to me on the mainland. I told him I would wait and see if they somehow made it to the shop before we left. Luckily, the glasses did arrive the day before we were going to leave and he was going to offer extra discounts on the order due to the delay. I refused! How could I hold him responsible for something like a natural disaster! He insisted and I continued to reject. Later, my son needed a pair of sunglasses and found a nice pair of Maui Jims. Ryken gave me a crazy deal for the inconvenience of my previous order. I insisted he didn't need to but my pleas were ignored. As long as Ryken owns the shop with his amazing staff of super friendly and helpful sales people, this is the only place my family and friends will ever need to go to buy sunglasses! Mahalo, Ryken and Team! P.S. They do free repairs including frame alignment, nose pad replacements, screw tightening, etc. A one stop shop for your sunglass needs! read more

I had a mishap with my Maui Jim sunglasses, and one side of the lens popped out. Took it to Freaky Tiki Tropical Optical to see what can be done. Lauren helped to see if she could put the lens back in or need to send it out to Maui Jim for fixing. She tried but couldn't put the lens back in, so we decided to send it to Maui Jim factory on Maui, which was fine with me. Got an unexpected call from Lauren that evening. She stated the owner of the store, Ryken, came in, and he was able to put it back together. What a wonderful surprise, and I was so stoked that I could wear my sunglasses again. Went the next day to pick it up and was totally grateful and glad I was able to speak to owner Ryken. If you are ever in the need for sunglasses or prescription glasses, Freaky Tiki is the place to go. Great customer service and top-notch employees. read more

Very helpful staff/owner. They clearly know all the details of their products and models. I ended up not getting any shades but never felt pressured. If possible, I'd support this shop over the multiple sunglass huts at ala Moana if price is equivalent! read more

Go see Ryken at Honolulu Sunglass shop in Kailua! He will help you find the right frame and lens after listening to your specific needs. We recently purchased sunglasses for my 90yo father who explained to Ryken he needed something that didn't sit on his face. Mission accomplished and a happy customer who is looking hip & cool! Ryken also helped me pick out new sunglasses for my husband who wasn't even there based on pictures I showed him of my husband wearing sunglasses we previously bought from him. Turned out to be the perfect frame and lens color. All the while he kept my father comfortable while I shopped. Ryken is a true professional, good listener, patient and never pressures a sale. You will have the best customer experience and also be supporting a locally owned business! read more

Ryken the owner is DA BEST. I have probably bought 5 about pairs of Maui Jims from him over the past few years. Anyone can sell you a product, but very few places provide customer service when a problem arises. Ryken operates on old school values of honesty and integrity. I even purchased a pair of glasses from his new Kailua shop. Highly recommend him and his business. read more

Earlier this week, I decided that I would make a trip to the mall and treat myself to a new pair of sunglasses in 3 years. Yes! I take care of my sunglasses! My first thought was to go to Sunglasses Hut, where I got my last two pairs. Before leaving, I decided to check Yelp to see other places selling sunglasses. I read the reviews for Freaky Tiki and remembered going there many years ago and purchasing a pair of RayBan aviators. From the current reviews, the store is now under new ownership, but still a local business, providing great service. Off I went and Jesse, who was working there that day, was friendly, helpful and above all "no pressure", which I appreciated. He made me feel comfortable trying on different styles, asking me to just return the ones I tried upside down to the shelf. I assume to clean them later. I was able to find a pair of Ray Bans that I really liked and with a 20% discount. I also appreciated that Jesse got a new pair from their stock for me. All in all, a very pleasant experience. Glad I went there was able to support a local business. read more

I highly recommend purchasing sunglasses here. They stock major brands and provide personalized service. No pushy sales people like most mall sunglass stores, just informed sales staff who want you to look good and be satisfied with your sunglasses. I purchased a pair of Maui Jims (my preference) and was extremely satisfied with the price and customer service. Ryken or Geoffrey will both be more than happy to help you select a pair that is not only attractive, but affordable too. Wish there were 6 star reviews! read more

BS WARRANTYS PILFERED HERE I purchased Maui Jim's here on 4/19/2019. Salesman Rexford Cahill told me that the Maui Jim's came with a lifetime warranty. If they broke, he said, it was on Maui Jim. I just had to make sure not to lose them! Last week the Maui Jims frame broke when I dropped my glasses. Clearly within the warranty I was sold. Well, of course, when I called just now to inquire after the warranty, I was told that the warranty only covers breaks that are the fault of Maui Jim - dropping not included. What?!? It's Maui Jim's fault that the frames were not sturdy enough for a standard drop. Love the glasses. Hate the sales tactic and advise anyone in Oahu NEVER to shop at Freaky Tiki. read more

Great place and friendly service : shout out to Jairose & Tiffany for such great and fun service! I ended walking out with a nice new pair of shades for my stay vacation in paradise. If you're in Ala Moana, this is the place to find a great selection of sunglasses! :) read more

I was looking for a particular pair of Maui Jim's sunglasses. Ryken ordered two different options for me to choose from, both of them were custom made. I liked one of the pairs but wasn't crazy about the ear pieces, Ryken was able to change them out in the store so I got exactly what I wanted. I can't say enough about the customer service provided by Ryken. He is absolutely outstanding at what he does. He is very personable and very professional. He totally understands customer service. I will be purchasing from this store again! read more

Ryken is the man. I was home on vacation searching everywhere for the Maui Jim wiki wiki's. Fortunately, your store had one on display and Ryken was very thorough ensuring that they were flawless. He also gave me the scoop on the $25 dollar shop local gift card. He was so personable and attentive that I had to come on here and give him a 5 star review. It looks like he's very popular. This guy should get a raise! read more

Amazing customer service! Ryken helped me over a year ago and when I came in today he remembered my name and the sunglasses I bought. I came in to get a new pair of sunglasses because the ones I bought a year ago had some weird build up on the lenses. He told me that wasn't normal and that it would be covered by my warranty. I still bought a new pair of maui jims and he replaced my coach glasses with a new pair on the spot. I definitely recommend this place. They have the best Maui Jim selection I have found on the island and great customer service. Thank you! I will be back!! read more

RYKEN, RYKEN, RYKEN! He understands the product at hand and he is amazing at customer service!! He went above and beyond. Great local business! My wife went in, and Ryken and the lady working in the store treated her great. We were able to find hard to find Hawaii edition lenses here from Maui Jim, but the customer service is the reason we'll be back. Bought a pair of sunglasses here for my niece and Ryken was so helpful and honest, we asked his opinion on which pair of sunglasses looked good on her, he could've said the more expensive one but he chose the less expensive of the 2-3 that we were looking at. I came in Freaky Tiki in June trying to replace my Oakley lens that I purchased 3 years ago. I found out they have 50% off discount on their sunglasses, so I ended up purchasing another Oakley sunglasses for road cycling. I found Ryken really knowledgeable answering all my questions. I later returned to adjust my new pair of sunglasses (and bought another Maui Jim aviator style sunglasses!). Top notch customer service. read more

Recently, Ray-ban released a new pair of aviator style sunglasses and I had spent 2 weeks searching almost every shop on the island for them. I stopped into Freaky Tiki and with the help of Ryken, got the exact pair special ordered in 3 days. There was no pressure from the staff here and Ryken went the extra mile to help me warranty my old pair of Maui-Jim's and I received back in 7 days. He took care of everything that I had put off for months. I highly recommend this business to anyone who is in the market for new shades. The customer service I experienced is un-parallel to other sunglass stores on Oahu, I hope to send more of my friends to this deserving business! read more

Long story short, our shades and all the change I use for parking got jacked from my truck couple nights ago so we decided to give this place a try and not the other place upstairs because of my last experience there. First off, the workers here are very friendly and not overshadowing your every move. "if you have any questions dont hesitate to ask" then they leave you to do your shopping. I like when it's like that. It makes me at least feel more relaxed insted of being hovered over and pressured. The wife got the same Oakley Unstoppable that she had and I got another pair of Spy Logans but they didn't have the matte finish like the one that I had. The only Logans that they had was the display one and it was the shiny one but he did give me 20% off of the display so good deal. If your on the hunt for some sunglasses I would suggest give this place a try first before you try the place upstairs that starts with a O. Same sunglasses, a little cheaper price and the workers here are so much more friendly. read more

The perks of entering my third decade?? BIFOCALS. Congratulations to me. Luckily, thanks to my Asian genes, I still get carded or I'd just throw in the towel now. I thought if I have to be four-eyed for 12 hours a day four days a week, I might as well look damn good doing it. The hunt was on for my perfect pair of glasses. It took me weeks. Those Asian genes came back to bite me in the ass when having no nose bridge made it hell to find a pair I loved. I looked high and low at my eye doc's office, creepily checked out other people wearing glasses, peered at catalog after catalog. Until of course, I landed on the perfect frames that were no short of $600 Tom Fords. Ugh. A few Ebay searches later, and I found the same ones for $200. And I patted myself on the back for my own persistence because my line-less bifocals (so I didn't look like a complete grandma) were an additional $200. WTF MATE!? Anyways, fast forward TWO MONTHS, and these damned bifocals, were the talk of work. Seriously. All my clients could not stop talking about my "sexy" glasses. Who knew?? I guess I get the hot-for-teacher/nerd/insert-smart-lady-noun-here thing but this was another level. Multiple compliments a day people. If i forgot them at home, people asked me where my glasses were. Nobody noticed my fresh kicks anymore! But then, on a sad, sad day, one of the nose pads fell off. Turns out, these are SUPER RARE TOM FORD NOSE PADS THAT NONE ONE HAS. And no generic nose pads fit. *Rolls eyes* More money to shell out for these stupid bifocals. I retrace all my steps to all the stores/optometrists, make a thousand phone call messages to Tom Ford themselves multiple times with no response... and guess what? NO ONE HELPS ME. Until I get to FREAKY TIKI. Yep, these people are freaks of customer service nature. Ask for Z. He'll hook you up. I lamented my holy grail of nose pad searches. I made a super sad face. Told him all about my bifocal issues. I wasn't even his customer. I didn't buy anything from him. But he offered to help me when no one else did. He offered me some generics that I could cut to fit in the mean time of him trying to find these unicorn pads. I was a blind damsel in distress. He was my optical knight in a Freaky Tiki tshirt. And the man delivered! He kept emailing me updates. And when the day came that they were in, he emailed me, fit them for me, and gave them to me. Who does that nowadays?? Z is my prescription eyeglasses hero! Long story short: If you are visually challenged, do not waste your time going to other chain eyewear stores. You may just go to your doc just to get your prescription. But then HEAD STRAIGHT HERE. Z will take care of all your prescription eye needs and will go above and beyond to make sure you're happy. read more

was NOT in the market for new shades, but happened to walk by and see this quaint little shop. Wasn't even going to enter but was greeted warmly by a filipina, very friendly and professional and she even offered a towelette and/or hand sanitizer. COVID afted all! so I looked around and noticed a pretty big sale going on. Not just an unflattering, token 10% off type sale either! Talking substantial markdowns as if they really wanted my business. Asked questions, got good answers and info. Didn't make a purchase then and there, but came back a few days later and bought some clear lens sunglasses to use as PPE. got one heck of a deal on them by joining their email list, and the rest is history. You have to appreciate businesses that are trying harder to stay afloat during this pandemic lockdowns... my purchase may not be a game changer for them but Freaky Tiki sure made it seem that way. Bravo, this is the sort of small business I'm willing to support! A for effort!!! read more

Freaky Tiki has the best customer experience of any store I've ever been to. I stopped by to grab a pair of Maui Jim's and you'd have thought I just walked into the concierge at Prada. From the moment we stepped into his store, Ryken treated us as if we were literal royalty. Freaky Tiki also has an incredible selection. He has all your favorite brands in stock -- Maui Jim, Oakley, Costa, Ray Ban, Tiffany, Persol just to name a few -- and none of the brands you don't really care about. Also, because he doesn't keep all the junk brands, he has a very deep selection of the brands you DO want. For example, he has maybe 200 pairs of Maui Jim's in stock, whereas Sunglass Hut might have 50. That means you get to see more styles and combinations of lenses than you otherwise would -- so you will definitely find a style that looks great on you. And, when you're trying to settle on a pair -- if you ask -- Ryken will give you honest feedback about how they look and will make recommendations as to models that might be a better look. I'm telling you, he's unbelievable. Also, the prices are very reasonable. The MJ Tailslides I got from him were cheaper than at Sunglass Hut. They also service your sunglasses (clean them, adjust nose pieces, heat mold them) any time -- EVEN IF YOU DIDN'T BUY THEM FROM FREAKY TIKI. Like, what?! Anyone who's looking for a new pair should go see Ryken and his crew. Friendly, professional, attentive service. You won't be disappointed! read more

I pass by this place at Ala Moana Shopping Center all the time and finally thought to stop in. Boy, am I glad I did. What a great experience! Tiffany helped me try on a million different styles. She helped me figure out which frames work well on my face. (A challenge for sure! lol) After deciding on a basic style, she helped me zero in on the perfect pair -- both for my taste and my pocket book. All parts of it were fun. It was like the Apple Store of sunglasses shopping. I love my Maui Jims, and I'll be back again for sure. Great product. Great price. Great service. read more
