Do not go to Dr. Kyle Oroku!! He is unprofessional - gave me a wrong diagnosis. Several friends of mine no longer go here and so will I. Careless, wrong diagnosis. De. Oroku just wants your money. Be warned! read more

Yikes. My first visit here in 2015 was very pleasant, but it just went all downhill from there. I really want to give a higher rating because the doctors are so very nice, thorough and informative... but all the cons just outweigh all the pros. The front office staff are not friendly and not very welcoming. I always get the vibe that I'm just more $$$ to them and they don't really care about me as a patient. Every time I come on time to my appointment... I still have to wait at least 15 minutes (even when I'm scheduled in the morning, right after opening!). I see the assistants just sitting there, and then 15 minutes in - she gets up to start my exam... like why did I have to wait for? So not very efficient. Also - they do a very horrible job trying to keep the cost low for you as a patient... I always feel jipped when leaving their office. I don't even know how to explain this, but I'll try my best. Some parts of the exam are unnecessary, but they'll make you do it anyway - even if your insurance doesn't cover it. Moreover, insurance will cover some parts if you do it on the same day - for example, a contact fitting will cost less if you pair it with your eye exam, but instead I was scheduled to come back for a fitting... where I then had to pay out of pocket for that eye exam. They didn't even TRY to inform me about that kind of stuff beforehand. Also - my contact prescription NOR the brand I use didn't change... but I still had to pay for contact fitting to check that the same EXACT lenses still fit... $90. REALLY?! Ugh. I agree with Yelper Julez K. about them tacking on fees and extra cost whereever they can without it benefitting you at all. On the upside, the doctors (I've only seen Dr. Au and Dr. Wong) were very nice and informative. They educate you very thoroughly about eye wellness and health and answered all my questions, and they are indeed, very good doctors. I just don't feel like paying an arm and a leg or having to sacrifice my first born (or whatever) for this. Sadly, I won't be returning. Please, do yourself and your wallet a favor - find a different optometrist practice. Yelp 2018 Challenge: 14/30 read more

Doctors I have seen here are great. Receptionist Ophelia is wonderful as well but all other front desk workers are not warm or friendly. I had a situation where I was asking for help and they gave me attitude when I just needed assistance if possible. It's sad when you come across people who can't be nice to others. read more

I went to Drs. Au and Lau when they were still at Lenscrafters in Pearlridge a few years ago. The service was typical, nothing really to complain about, not particularly memorable, either. The reason I'm giving them 1 star is because once they have your contact information, they will hound you relentlessly through email and text. Every single time I get an email from them, I hit the unsubscribe button, but it does nothing. I have even set up filters through my Gmail to automatically delete their messages, but since they using different email addresses and titles, it's hard to get them all. Occasionally they will also send text messages, as well. The real kicker was a year after my first (and only) appointment with them. I got a phone call around 9 a.m. by their receptionist, informing me I was late for my appointment. This was odd, since I never contacted them again after my initial appointment, and I know I didn't sign up for any sort of annual check up. I told the receptionist I never made an appointment, told her about the incessant emails and texts, and told her they need to delete my information from their database. Two-ish years later, I am still getting emails from them. Avoid Drs. Au and Lau like the plague, cause once you meet them, you're never getting rid of them. Oh, and they also didn't inform me my insurance didn't cover the eye exam until AFTER it was performed, leaving me to cover the entire $90 fee out-of-pocket. read more

I've being going to Dr's Au and Lau as long as I can remember. Dr. Au is very smart and personable. She explains things really well (I actually learn more about my eyes!) and her staff is friendly. The office is about average size, it feels nice, clean and professional. They have walls lined with a ton of glasses / sunglasses /contacts. She used to be at Lenscrafters, but now her office is located in the the building across Don Quiote and First Hawaiian Bank (opposite side of the Pan AM building). They validate parking, but I would recommend parking at Alamoana and walking over (since it's free and close-by) or you can try street parking. Overall, everyone there is very knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful (even helped me pick which glasses looked the best, and I'm super happy with my decision). read more

Dr. Au has been my doctor ever since I needed glasses.... that's second grade. LoL. So she knows my eyeballs in and out. I'm so happy to be one of her long time patients. read more

Dr. Au is amazing. Such a caring person who loves what she does. I hope if you are looking for a great optometrist you give her a call. The office is near Ala Moana shopping center and Don quihote. So it is very easy to get there. read more

My wife has an appointment now. My wife has known Dr. Au for at least 20years ( when Dr. Au was at Ala Moana Lens crafters on the third floor by Macy's) I will be transferring my eye's to Dr. Au. My last eye doctor was great the first year seeing me personally, then the second year i would be seen by an intern for the whole exam. That did not make me comfortable knowing that i am paying to see the Dr. But only seeing and INTERN! read more

Friendly staff, great doctors, thorough eye evaluations- what else is there to say? I sheduled an appointment here last week to get my eyes checked and to try out contacts, which I have never worn before. The staff had to teach me how to put the contacts in and out, and even though it took a while- and some frustration and expletives on my part- they remained patient and positive. I really appreciate that. Awesome office! read more

Dr. Au is an amazing woman and she is the first ever optometrist to be very thorough with me. I had other optometrists in the past, but Dr. Au really explains what she is doing and understands what her patients want. For example, I knew that eyesight got a little bad and I didn't want to get a too strong of a prescription so we met in the middle for my prescription. She is very friendly and cheerful! The staff is really helpful and friendly also. I am definitely coming back here! read more

I saw Dr Linda Wong, Optometrist, in May 2017, and was delighted. I had just moved here from California and had a wonderful eye doc for more than 20 years. I really did not think I would find someone as great as my prior doctor but Dr Wong was terrific! She was very nice and friendly and I was really impressed with all the information I received from her on glaucoma and cataracts. I had been told my eye pressure was high but not too high previously and as you age cataracts are a possible issue. I was very comfortable after speaking with Dr Wong and will definitely go back to her! I really like to be educated about my health and she gave me just what I wanted! I Highly recommend her! Dr. Linda Wong is always pleasant and incredibly informative. Go ahead and ask questions during your visit but she will have most probably informed you of everything you would want to know and then some. I feel secure in her care. I recommend parking on the street because it's easier and less expensive than the validated parking. read more

Dr. Linda Wong is the best eye doctor I've been to in Honolulu. She is thorough and cares about her patients in a way other doctors do not. If you wear contacts or glasses or just need an eye exam, go see Dr. Wong! read more

10/19/11 ** Sega & Dr. Young were the BEST** EXTREMELY impressed with state of the art technology, amazing, friendly & thorough customer service from Sega (front desk & eye technician & Dr. Young my Optometrist.. Sega took the time to explain to me about my insurance, optical exam options, each of the procedures being done & even volunteered to follow up with my PCP to ensure that all my exam results were faxed over to him ( although I had no contact info for my personal care physician, she went above and beyond her job to assure me she would take care of all of it and fax it for me). I was seen by Dr. Young a very friendly, approachable, knowledgeable, informative and confident doctor. Dr. Young has found the lost art of actually LISTENING to his patients, which was wonderful because I finally felt HEARD. Kudos to Dr. Young because i felt secure that he heard all my concerns and made sure to address all of my concerns. He took a lot of time to both, make sure my eye exam was thorough and to explain to me about the results of the eye exam. Even though it was only my first time meeting Dr. Young, he treated me as if I had been a long time patient and made me feel very comfortable and at ease. Both Dr. Young and Sega were able to turn a possibly stressful yearly eye exam (there are so many eye tests and procedures it can be overwhelming), and eye procedure(s) into a very positive experience. They were both professional, very easy to talk to & truly showed the "aloha spirit" in the way they cared for me as their patient. I was also extremely grateful of the way they were so respectful to me and how very appreciative they were for my business. At the PearlRidge Lenscrafters I was treated more like "family", not just another number. they treated with me with a lot of care & respect, as an individual, especially with concern for my specific eye exam results and needs. This company really cares about eyes, but Dr. Young, well, he made me feel he really cared about MY EYES, even though he'd probably seen hundreds of pairs before mine this very same day. The only reason I had not seen an eye doctor in such a long time was because I had not found a doctor worth seeing again. For any future eye exam clients, I hope when you go to this eye care store, I hope you get the same kind of personal yet professional service I received during my time as a new client here at LenscraftersPearlRidge. I can guarantee you this, I have found my new eye doctor who I hope to follow for many years to come. If you don't already have an eye doctor I would highly suggest going here and make sure to say hi to Sega and book an appointment with Dr. Young, you will not be disappointed!!! I wanted to try a local optometry place to support local small businesses, but the customer service experience was awful, with the exception of the optometrist herself. The optometrist was really nice and helpful. She answered all my questions and was thorough. Everything following that was downhill. I stayed extra time to try and look for frames for purchasing my new glasses and only found out that they validate one hour when i asked for a validation. Every hour after that is $4. They declined to cover time spent past the 1st hour even after i spent loads of money getting a prescription for my contacts AND glasses. I decided to overlook their pettiness and came back to purchase glasses and found out that due to my higher prescription i had to pay like $25 extra, but to make the lenses lighter i had to add an additional $25. The glasses were ready relatively quick, but to my disappointment they had an ugly white/opac ring around the edge of the lense (see picture). The receptionist said that it was due to the thickness of the lenses and unpolished edge of the lenses. She exclaimed that polishing the lenses would potentially reduce the brightness of the ring and it costs an extra $25 to polish. Really--are you just charging $25 for everything?? First of all no one told me there would be this ugly opac ring. Second, it seems like this receptionist is associating everything wrong with the glasses to my apparently high prescription: -5.00. At this point, i just wanted to mitigate the ugliness and threw down the $25 ($26.30 including tax); there was almost no noticeable difference between polished vs unpolished; the opac white ring is still disturbingly apparent. They said no refunds and they also did not take any responsibility for selling me a product that was inaccurately portrayed. On top of that, they sold me the floor model without disclosing this info during the purchase--who knows how long it had been on display and how many people had use it or how many times it fell on the floor. They also said that they weren't ordering more of those frames because they had the opac ring issue. So i guess they knew this issue existed and failed to disclose this information while i was purchasing it. I would be happy to edit my post if they somehow compensated me for this miserable experience and dishonesty. But for now, sadly I would not recommend this place to anyone. read more

Au & Lau - Ugly opac white ring--never had this issue with previous glasses and DIDN'T EVEN GET THE THINNER OR POLISHED LENSES - Optometrists Near Me - Honolulu, Hawaii

I recently visited Dr. Au at the Waikiki Makahiki Clinic. I honestly do not think you could find a better optometrist on the island! She was thorough, super friendly, explained everything so that I could understand what she was saying, answered all my questions but most importantly made me feel comfortable and at ease. I will definitely be going back to see her year after year. What a delight to be seen by such a knowledgeable doctor with a serious thirst for her specialty. I wish all my doctors were like her! read more
