Dr. Yuen (Ophthalmologist) and his super nice partner, Dr. Komo (Optometrist), were the best of doctors when dealing with treatment and surgery on my massive eyelid stye (big ouch!) and follow on examinations. It has been a long time since I had my eyes checked out; since retiring, I stopped wearing prescription glasses, and my distance vision miraculously came back. They told me I am legal to drive now without glasses which made me very happy. They also told me I do not have cataracts nor glaucoma, which really made my day. Getting old is a b#@*h, and I simply detest seeing doctors, but this business is helping change my mind. On time, no unnecessary waiting, and super good 'bedside' attitudes. I will return, no matter how much I detest seeing doctors and dentists. PS- Parking can sometimes be tough at their Kapahulu office parking lot, but within a block away (Kaimuki Ave) there is plenty of street parking. read more

This office is wonderful! I was out of town and ran out of contacts! They were able to help me and give me a few pairs to last until I got home! I am so grateful! Their customer service is wonderful! Highly recommend this office for all your optometry needs! Mahalo read more

Extremely rude service. His staff is obnoxious and rude. My Mom needs assistance and they would not allow me to assist her as they don't allow anyone else but the patient in their facility. Poor poor service and they don't care about the patient. read more

When I got shingles and it was by my eye, my primary care doctor told me to go and see Dr. Yuen right away as it could get into my eye. They made the appointment and I went down. Of course my first time there, I had to fill out the standard paperwork but was pleasantly surprised that I didn't have to wait a long time to be seen. Dr. Yuen did tests to make sure the shingles wasn't in my cornea and scheduled follow up tests to make sure. I don't know if this was a good thing or bad but maybe it was because I don't see him on a natural basis that I feel like there was something missing. Maybe more communication but hey if he talked to everyone giving them a detailed, step by step thing, I guess people would be waiting for a long time to see him. I'm still waiting for a call back from a message I left about a month ago. Maybe they don't call back. I will give them a call. read more

Dr. Yuen did a great job on my exam. His office staff is very efficient. They seem to be cleaning and disinfecting constantly. I noticed a huge difference in the waiting room as it is incredibly spaced out and I was a large distance from anyone else in the waiting room. They had hand sanitizer out for our convenience. Also make sure you wear a mask. They have signs all over to let you know that they are required. Dr. Yuen's mother has made and donated thousands of masks to the public to keep them safe during this pandemic. In fact I was lucky enough to be given a reusable mask as a gift from Dr. Yuen's mother. It is the most comfortable mask. It creates a great seal and I can wear it all day long. What is even more I really appreciated that Dr. Yuen opened the door for me on the way out so I wouldn't have to touch the door handle. I wanted to thank him but he rushed off to wash his hands. I highly recommend Dr. Yuen and Aloha Vision Consultants. read more

I've been near sighted nearly all of my life and as I have gotten older, the cataracts in both of my eyes had reached a point where I couldn't read the road signs when driving, especially at night and my vision on one eye was best corrected only to 20/200 which is considered legally blind. After an extensive search I had Dr. Carlton Yuen perform cataract surgeries to both of my eyes. Now I have 20/20 distant vision and 20/30 reading vision! I can see crystal clear. I have no need for any glasses. It's truly amazing. Dr. Yuen is an incredible doctor and surgeon. He and his staff examined, tested, records, retested, re-examined, and double checked everything to insure I had the absolute best results from my surgeries. Dr. Yuen analyzes everything like a head football coach laying out every little detail of a treatment plan to squeeze every bit of vision I can get near and far. He considered the use of every manufacturer of lens, every type of lens, the condition of my retina and other conditions along with the benefits of laser surgery to place the new lens and to reshape my cornea to eliminate any astigmatism so that I can achieve the best vision for my particular eyes. To say he is thorough is an extreme understatement! Dr. Yuen's staff was wonderful and they all follow Dr.Yuen's style and personality of being very caring, personable, very professional and very efficient. After my surgeries I had a very mild headache otherwise the entire process was totally painless and I had no discomfort at all! My follow up care was just as detailed and thorough as my pre-surgery workup and surgery. I truly felt I received the absolute best surgery and treatment from Dr. Yuen and his staff. Everyone at one point in their lives will need to have cataract surgeries. I can unequivocally recommend Dr. Carlton Yuen to perform your cataract surgeries. When it comes to our eyes and our vision, why would one trust just any ophthalmologist to perform surgery when one can have an exceptional, ultra experienced, extremely thorough and caring ophthalmologist and surgeon like Dr. Yuen to take great care of you. read more

Dr Yuen has been my dr for over 3 years now. He's always so joyful and joking around. His famous line is "eh, how you doing? You lost some weight yeah? Lol His staff is very friendly and gets you in and out quick at your appt. I think the longest I've waited was about 5 minutes for anything. Dr Yuen treated me at first a corneal ulcer and since that moment he's been my dr and I wouldn't go nowhere else. read more

What an improvement from the last Ophthalmologist I went to,[dont want to mention who BUT he had a sign that said if you can't wit 2-3 hours for them to complete your appointment you need to reschedule.] Dr, Yuen and staff are fast and efficient, he has two offices another one in Aiea Medical Building. If I have a choice of waiting 2 hours or getting in and out in a timely manner.... They take the time to call in your prescription so you don't have as long to wait to get it. Parking at the Kapahulu office is free. They sent me a email to confirm my appt, what was good is that they also tell you how long it will be and what will be done when you get there. I was in and out in less than an hour. read more

Good bye Costco... Hello Dr. Yuen. I started seeing Carlton probably back in 2008. I had woken up and got ready to go to work when I noticed my eye was blood shot red. I was so scared. If there's one thing I know it's not to mess with the eyes. He was able to take me right away. Thankfully it wasn't anything serious. He was very patient and thorough with all my questions and need. He made sure I had some antibiotics for my eye and even followed up to make sure everything was okay. Fast forward to today, I still see Doctor Yuen for my annual appointments. Once you check in his staff calls to in and gets your started. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. I like that they clean the machines after a patient uses it and also before you put your face in it. Then Doctor Yuen comes in the room to took at the eyes. He doesn't treat you like another number. It almost feels like he could be apart of my family. He was nice enough to suggest that my left prescription should be lower and right stay the same. I also like that he is pretty young. I hate then the doctor is old and retire so you have to find someone new. Dr. Yuen has the right experience and will be around for a while. I also get my glasses from there. I got the cutest Tory Burch Glasses. AWESOME!! For Tory burch they were reasonable. They have some of the best brands. The staff is great at making sure the fit and prescription is just right. I have a small nose so not all glasses fit. They're patient and make sure you leave happy. Tip: Check out the glasses.. AWESOME! read more

What a great Ophthalmologist!!!! Highly Recommend Dr. Carlton Yuen for all your eye care needs! He is thorough in identifying problems and offers multiple courses of treatment. I have been a patient of Dr. Yuen for over 5 years now and my yearly checks with him are always so pleasant. I wear contact lenses and when I informed Dr. Yuen that the fit did not feel quite right, he did some tests and recommended that the base curve be changed to better fit my eyes. His staff is always very professional and they are very thorough when cleaning testing machines! His office has an optical shop that carries a good selection of frames and his staff always has the patient's best interest at heart. Dr. Yuen recommends what is best for the patient based on the insurance coverage. Dr. Yuen is great, if you are looking for a new doctor i highly recommend that you check out his services. I'm pretty sure he takes almost all insurances and its never a problem getting an appointment! read more

Dr Carlton Yuen is the best ophthalmologist ever. Yesterday he performed a cataract/intraocular lens implant on my left eye. This morning when he removed my patch everything is so amazingly clear. I can see things up close that I never saw before. (Eek need moisterizer for my hands lol.) Dr. Yuen did this procedure at the Eye Surgery Center of Hawaii (see another review) with a Femto Laser. So fast, painless and amazing results. 5 years ago he performed cataract/IOL surgery on my right eye and my vision out of that eye is still crystal clear. I can now see at all distances - near, intermediate and far without any correction. I am so happy being that before surgery my right eye was very cloudy even with glasses on and I was recently struggling to read with my left eye even with correction. I have always been so pleased to see Dr. Yuen and his great staff. Alan, Tammy, Kimi, Jayson and everyone else there is so professional, knowledgeable, easy to talk to and very friendly. Scheduling is easy but he gets booked up fast because he is so popular and he also has an office at the Aiea Medical Building for those who live or work out that way. Email appointment reminders are sent out which is also very helpful. Parking is free and convenient and there are always guards to assist in parking. If you are looking for a great Ophthalmologist to look after your eyes, see Dr. Yuen, you will be under the best of care. Thank you Dr. Yuen and staff for taking great care of me and my family throughout the many years. read more

Dr. Yuen is the best opthamaogist I've had (I've been through 4 doctors) and his staff is efficient and pleasant. My appointments are always completed on-time, which is a huge consideration since I keep a fairly busy schedule. I used to go to another ophthalmologist on King Street but often I was kept waiting, some times up to an hour, which is really aggravating to me. Parking at Dr. Yuen's locations is a bit of a squeeze in the afternoons but the parking attendants always find a stall for me in a short amount of time. Dr. Yuen is easy to talk to, very thorough with his explanations, and I never feel rushed out of his office. He's a great doctor. read more

Managing my blindness is hard work! Dr. Yuen is awesome!!! I highly recommend him! He always explains what is going in with you so you understand what is going on. I hate it when doctors don't explain what is going on lol! He's friendly and great at what he does! Thanks doc! If you have an email address they also send you appt. reminders via email :) read more

This was my first office visit. I felt the doctor was not personal and turnover of patients was more important than spending time to explain the condition of my vision and wellness of my eyes. While waiting in examination room, I was referred to as a room number. In the past, my annual eye exams have been completed in one visit. Dr. Yuen had me return for a second visit, not clearly explaining the reason for a return. His services cost double the amount of what I normally would pay for an annual eye exam. I don't feel his concern for my care is sincere. The trial lenses given were incorrect. I needed to return to his office to get an exchange. I will not be returning. read more

So I have something called Ocular Surface Disease and Meibomian Gland Dysfunction which is a fancy way of saying I have severe dry eyes. I've done Restasis, Xiidra, punctal plugs, and tons and tons of eye drops. My eyes were always red and tired and irritated. I am sooo happy to finally have a solution for this problem. I had a LipiFlow Thermal Pulsation. It took only 12 minutes. And it was so easy and simple. Roberta prepped me and explained everything step by step and was so calming. She answered all of my questions and was very knowledgeable. And I'm so grateful that Dr. Yuen offered this treatment solution. My dry eyes was starting to affect me psychologically. Even though my body was not tired, because my eyes were always red and irritated and dry, it made me look and feel tired no matter how many eye drops I used. Unless you have lived with dry eyes for an extended amount of time, you really don't know how debilitating it can be. People always asked me if I was tired or sick because of my red or tired eyes. Thank you so much Dr. Yuen!!! Honestly, this is life-changing. read more

We came back to Dr. Yuen with the glasses I had gotten from Costco, to find out Aloha Vision Consultants gave the lab the wrong prescription for my glasses. Dr. Carlton was trying to blame it on Costco, when it was their fault that they gave the wrong prescription. I asked if there was any compensation for the time that I was inconvenienced from him, he said we would not charge me for this follow-up consulting. So it was his fault for the first situation and now he saying he's not charging me for this visit. I feel he could have done something else to make up for this time loss and aggravation. We will not be going back next year to see Dr Yuen again. We (Kendall and I) will look for a new eye doctor. read more

Dr. Yuen and his entire staff have been very helpful and accommodating to me for several years now! It's so easy to make an appointment at the times I need and it's always quick which I appreciate since I work during business hours and can't get an appointment without taking off at most other places. I'm also helped with minimal wait time and the entire staff is extremely nice and have helped me save a lot of money for the procedure I need to help me get through each day. Highly recommend!!! read more

Although they have a well-equipped staff there is lack of quality customer service. It seems as if they want to turnover as much patients as possible. I have horrible vision and dry eyes, but all that gets done is a written prescription. The doctor has expertise, but he doesn't explain the severity of your issues with you. Compared to other doctors offices (trust me I've been to many optometrist and ophthalmologists) Dr. Yuen definitely overprices things. I've had the same health insurance for the past 3 years and my eye exams, contacts, and eye glasses are twice as much at Dr. Yuen's office than any other doctor that I've been to. If you want a quick, easy and expensive service...this is the place for you. But, if you want a more personalized doctors visit, I would highly recommend a smaller office in which they actually take the time to get to know you. read more

Dr. Yuen is the best guy for your eyes. He is thorough and caring! His staff really care!

i would not go to this doctor nor recommend him to anyone. I felt vaguely uncomfortable at my first meeting with him but dismissed it. I went back again for an exam because my first one had expired. While scheduling cataract surgery he told me how " lucky" i was since i waited as now i was going to get ( never asked if i wanted it) a new lens made by Johnson and Johnson and there would be no extra charge because J&J didn't know what to charge for it. Yea, right. He expounded on the fact he was the first in the northern hemisphere to insert said lens, so i was really lucky. I know these surgeries are done by the thousands with no complications so i was confused as to what he was bragging about. Then, I was required to sign a release of liability for this new lens and get tested for covid at a time when few were getting tested. I knew J&J has a rap sheet that would send most people to jail for life if not the death penalty. I took whatever forms i had signed and got my medical records from the office, and promptly left. I feel strongly he was going to use me as a guinea pig for J&J and an ego boost for him self. I found a wonderful doctor that did not require i sign a release of liability nor get tested. read more

From the onset, when Dr. Yuen first recommended that I needed cataract surgery, he has been encouraging, supportive and had my best interest in mind. He was knowledgeable and able to answer my questions so that I understood and had recommended the Symfony Toric lens. Both surgeries went without a hitch or a glitch ... both perfect. I've had zero, zilch, nada one problem. Between surgeries I dealt with one good eye and waiting for the second good eye. It was a 5-week wait for personal reasons and was hard adjusting. Today I went for my after-surgery follow-up and had the patch removed. It was worth the wait. It was an OMG moment and as the day progressed it just got better and better. Prior to surgery I was not able to read the "Big E" and Dr. Yuen telling me I'd have 20/20. I went from not being able to read the "Big E" before surgery to reading 20/15 ... better than perfect. Dr. Yuen and Aloha Visions Consultants ... highly recommended ... hands down! read more
