We drove down from Orange County to have brunch with a friend in Temecula. It was about 11:30 on a Friday morning. Our friend put us in the waiting list and we were able to catch up for a bit while waiting. The hostess said that our table was ready and she could seat us. She asked if we wanted outside or inside. We opted for outside with the misters. As we were about to go follow her to a table, another female employee walked over and we were told that tables weren't actually ready and that it would be another 15-20 minutes. We could see plenty of tables open outside, so we sort of scratched our heads and walked around to another restaurant to eat since we were pretty hungry. Another place was able to seat us right away. This was truly disappointing, as we were looking forward to trying this place. But the front desk staff didn't made us feel very welcome and we didn't understand why it was going to be another 15-20 minutes after we were just told our table was ready. read more

This is my second time coming and it's definitely a cute spot! I love the vibes, it's vey fun and is a maximalist's dream. The chilaquiles were tasty and spicy, which isn't as common so I appreciate the variety. I went here with a large group and the waitress was super nice, they had vegan food, good drinks, everything seemed good. Then I got home and looked at the photo my friend took of the receipt. I ordered the chilaquiles, but to make them vegan, I had to remove the egg, queso fresco, sour cream, rice (chicken stock), and beans (lard). This left me with just chips, red sauce, and avo. I ordered an extra side of avocado. They charged me $3 for the avocado!!! This was a $17 meal (originally) that I had to remove 70% of, and they didn't even have a decency to comp the freaking avo. This means I paid $20 for a pile of moist chips. Absolutely unacceptable. This should have been $12 MAX. read more

So I ordered a double SMASH BURGER, my expectations was it was a burger patty made by hand. It ended up being store bought nasty cardboard tasting patties. Now if you know me. I am a burger expert. And that burger was terrible. Why? The meat was processed in some factory . It was so bad my best friend couldn't eat her burger. She pulled the cardboard meat out and just ate what she could. This Wednesday morning we decided to eat at the new place. My friend said her nieces in Orange County told her about it... I should have thought about that more.... We were quickly greeted and seated. In fact we took a cue from Goldie Locks and tried three different tables. The first one too high the second one too low and third one too many sharp corners and a bit dusty because it was outside. We returned to the second seating choice. The restaurant vibe was World Market/Teen Dream/Home Goods smashed together but not in a fully unpleasing manner. At each table a "purse tree" was available which was cute and thoughtful for those of us who carry small and large purses. The music was spot on to add a youthful atmosphere but too loud to have conversation or made you feel like you had to speak louder to be heard. Maybe the music volume is cover for those younger families with unruly children? Helps them further ignore misbehavior versus actually teaching them manners. If so, it works for me. We waited a bit longer than I thought we should have to be acknowledged by the server so when she arrived we ordered not only our drinks but food too. I ordered the Vegetarian Skillet and added sausage and my friend ordered country fried steak and eggs. Both entrees came with a choice of country potatoes or waffle fries as well ask a side of toast or biscuits and gravy. The country potatoes had onion and bell pepper cooked with them so we both ordered that along with biscuits and gravy. We sipped our excellent tasting coffee definitely hit the spot in the morning and since I use Nespresso at home, their coffee was nice and strong. Our orange juices tasted much like the fresh juice you are served in Italy so I looked for the Italian machine but I didn't see one so they obviously use a higher quality orange juice. The neon lights strategically placed and warmly welcoming did distract a bit so maybe the Italian machine just blended in the decor? Good OJ! Wished for a mimosa but alas it is a work day. The food arrived and was picture perfect!! Fluffy pancakes sprinkled with powdered sugar, medium sized biscuits smothered with milk gravy. Steam-rising from my sausage vegan skillet with melted cheese curving around the mushrooms, spinach, onion, bell peppers and scrambled egg. Quick pictures and to dive in! The country potatoes are not house made maybe Ore-Ida? They did add their own chopped onion and bell pepper but unfortunately the flavors cannot actually mingle the way house made potatoes would. The potatoes were warm. Still I am sure it was better than the waffle fries that I spied passing by. The moment my fork hit the egg skillet I knew it was going to be good. My fork full of steaming spinach, onion, bell pepper, mushroom, sausage and cheese stretching up into my mouth provided a heated explosion of goodness!! I enjoyed four bites before I decided to attack the smothered biscuits and gravy. Okay, it's one biscuit cut in half not the biggest or smallest biscuit I have been served. It was medium. My fork unexpectedly met a harden crust of the top biscuit. But the inside was fluffy. I dragged the fork and biscuit through the milky gravy then it touched my mouth. Blah. No flavor and no warmth. It was room temp milk gravy. As I chew, my fork is searching through the milk gravy for some bumps of sausage goodness. While I was successful at rearranging the parsley garnish on top of the gravy, there was no one single piece of sausage nor a speck of pepper to season not to mention salt. This bring us to my friend's chicken fried steak. Maybe it had been cooked the night before? Her whole meal was room temp. Being hungry she did finish it but only because I was truly enjoying my sausage vegan skillet. She did take a bite and agreed my skillet was tasty. We did let the server know about the biscuits which resulted in new biscuits which were fresher for sure but with room temp bland milk gravy it was not good. We didn't eat the pancakes as the whipped butter is actually flavorless whipped margarine? We did alert the manager to our issues. He said so many customers complained about the sausage in the gravy that they stopped putting sausage in. Okay I guess but the history of sausage gravy and biscuits dates back to the revolutionary war and was a staple ration item during world war 2!! This is a dish of the working poor that has deep roots in the south. Biscuits and gravy is a historically cheap hearty meal those who work the hardest. Not having sausage with your biscuits and gravy is like having no ying in your yang or no hee in your haw!! It's un-American. I say poor room temperature milk on biscuits for those who don't want sausage. The manager comped my friend's meal and apologized. We would go back again to enjoy the vegan skillet with sausage added and for coffee and the orange juice. Those items were superb!! read more
