I hired Hauted ATX to surprise some friends at Halloween last year with a haunted tour of Austin. We had a blast! Chris, the owner (and also our driver that night) gives a great tour of old creepy places around town ... and the best part is we were in an old vintage HEARSE! The hearse is already a neat ride, but Chris has been upgrading some features. You can check out autographs inside the hearse from all the celebrities who take the hearse (to and from gigs). This was a lot of fun for me and three thirteen year old girls. We rode in a hearse and the girls enjoyed waving to drivers from the back window, as if they were trapped inside. The driver/tour guide, Angela, was careful about staying age appropriate in her stories but kept us all entertained. The stories are 80 percent Austin history with a twist of supernatural. The tour guide provided waters and sodas that were greatly appreciated by us. The hearse was perfect because we could see places that were several miles apart from each other versus a waking tour that is limited by geography. Our tour guide was Ally and she was amazing! It was so much fun to see people reactions to people alive in a hearse. It was definitely creepy and worth the price. The House and Tavern was my favorite part. The Clay Pit was the absolute scariest! Not only did the lights keep flickering but when we went upstairs into a room I kept feeling a coldness on my arm and then right next to where I was standing was a door. A few seconds later we heard a bang on the door and I ran across the room so scared! After that we kept hearing a scratching on the door. By far the creepiest and scariest thing I have ever done. Not gonna lie...what lead us to this was the haunted segway tour being sold out. But MAN are we glad it was! What's better than getting chartered around in a temperature controlled vehicle...a hearse!...and getting a similar experience? Our tour guide, Steve, was very knowledgeable about the subject matter, very professional, very courteous, a safe driver, and extremely respectful of the dead that he was referencing. Chris is AWESOME! Had relatives in from out of town. Chris was very patient & helpful with our senior citizens! Not the high drama stuff you see on TV, but very nice. Chris knows his stuff about Austin history, haunted & creepy or not. We've lived in Austin for fours and still learned a lot. My aunt from Oklahoma just loved it and constantly asked Chris questions; which he always had the answer to. This tour will be on the list every time we get out-of-towners and I recommend it to people of all ages. Some of the stairs can be daunting, but my 71 year old aunt, while slower, didn't have any problems! Thank You Chris. Sorry so late in this review but I did this tour several weeks ago. This was WAY to much fun! I loved every single minute of this tour. I was visiting Austin for ACL and on whim I found tour here on Yelp. My tour guides who's name I cannot recall was so good! He professional and friendly! I don't normally do tourist-y things but this was so fun and entertaining! My friends are so jealous of how much I had they want to join me next year. I won't hesitate to do this again! I initially had some issues with my reservations but Angela and I kept in touch and helped accommodate my crazy schedule! You "Austinitie" are blessed with such amazing tour! My friends and I came from Colorado and have been eyeing so this tour for awhile. It did not disappoint. Whether you are a believer or a skeptic, there is enough history and cool stories to keep anyone entertained. We had a great time seeing different parts of Austin, learning some cool history, and grabbing a drink at The Tavern while learning about a brothel. Ally, our tour guide, was awesome and provided great stories! Plus, you ride in the back of a hearse. When else will you do that and remember it?! Just so you know, if you have a problem with stairs, be warned, there are stairs. One place had elevators, but the other 2 did not. Quite a bit of standing too. We went on a Sunday for my wife and I's anniversary. Angela was awesome. She talked for almost 3 hours straight. Obviously riding around town in a hearse is awesome. Angela tells you very early on that a majority of the tour is history, but the history is really cool. We live in the Austin area, and still saw and learned things we would have never known. Can't say enough about Angela. She was soooo nice and wanted to make sure everyone was comfortable and safe. 2 of the stops were places with bars, so if you wanted a drink, you could get one while touring. We had our own beverages in the car, which is definitely ok. I would recommend this tour to anyone visiting or even local to the area. I wanted to write an review because we rely on Yelp to help us determine activities we choose to participate in. In addition, I sent an email directly to Haunted ATX Hearse Tours prior to posting this review and they chose to ignore me. We went on the hearse tour Saturday night 10/11/14 when my sister was visiting from out of state. What the site doesn't mention is that the seating in the hearse has a lot to be desired. It is merely upholstered bench seating around the perimeter in the back portion of the vehicle. The problem is that with the small area that leaves for your feet, it is virtually impossible to sit upright with someone across from you, because there is absolutely no leg room. Unfortunately for us, there was a party of 3 other individuals in the vehicle and although very friendly 2 of the 3 were morbidly obese. Trying to get the 6 of us in that hearse was ridiculous. We should have just stayed home and played Twister. Except for one bar where we walked up into the attic (nothing to see but storage) we didn't see anything or go in anywhere that we couldn't have gone ourselves. If you google haunted places in Austin you will find everything on the tour, no graveyards, or anything scary, more of an Austin history lesson. For $40 we expected a relatively comfortable seat as well as a fun memorable experience, unfortunately we didn't get either. I would save your money and look into other fun things to do in Austin, as there are plenty. read more

We went this last weekend, split some bourbon while we drove around (not Chris, though, he stays sober) and the two hours flew by.
