Dined at Hau Tree for a girls dinner and it did not disappoint! Hau Tree is located in the Kaimana Beach Hotel at the end of Waikiki/start of Diamond Head. They do offer valet for $10 but you should be able to park on the street or at the park nearby for cheaper or for free. We made a reservation on Open Table a week before and got seated easily when we arrived. Unfortunately we weren't able to make it for sunset, but the ambiance was still beautiful and we were lucky to get a table close to the view! We started with drinks - I got the cold brew martini which was delicious and well made. Their signature drink is a lava flow but can be swapped with different bases to make it more unique like ube flavor and more. A bit on the pricey side but it is waikiki and a hotel restaurant. For food, we ordered a bunch of dishes to share: -Salmon Poke Cones - came with four cones in a big wood sculptural piece. It was a nice presentation - but on the smaller side. -Hamachi Kama - came with two cooked hamachi kama pieces. They were a nice size, crispy on the outside and had great flavor. I do like that they used a thicker beef patty, but it was a bit dry. The garlic bits was a nice touch and added good flavor. The restaurant is right next to a local beach, and we got to watch the sunset which made everything feel extra pretty. The caviar potato chip was a fun surprise and honestly a great value for what you get. We also ordered the kushi oysters, which are my husband's favorite and super hard to find now, so that made him really happy. For our main, we tried the fish of the day, Monchong. It wasn't my favorite because it came out a little dry and reminded me of swordfish, but everything else we ordered was delicious. However, the portions and the price are not aligned. If we did not order an appetizer, side, AND dessert, our meal would not have made us even remotely full. You could tell the rice was handmade. My husband had the steak and while it was delicious...it was almost $60 for two thin slices of meat and a little bit of potatoes underneath. I had the catch of the day and it was also delicious but again, a very small piece of fish with a little macadamia nuts. The pistachio cake was not great. It was okay. I enjoyed the pistou bucatini the most, but this dish was still lacking flavor wise. The steak was a tad too tough given it is wagyu. I enjoyed the coconut cake a lot and would get this again! I like how light the frosting is- not too sweet and not too heavy. I usually love chocolate but wasn't the biggest fan of the chocolate cookies in the cookies and cream sundae dessert.
